Over BEFORE it STARTED?? Unbusting a keel with the help of Boatfolk!

- It started so well! I got the boat lifted for free by Boatfolk and it all looked so good! Until that pesky surveyor got his little hammer (Excalibur) on the job and I found out my keel wasn't sounding right. This is how it ended up...

Well it didnt all just drop off, so thats a bonus. 👍👍
When you pull her out next allow two to four weeks on below the waterline. I suggest you strip back at the keel/hull joint. Guaranteed more. 😊
This would take me days if not weeks, and Terry just does it in 45 minutes, im impressed!
that repair will come back to bit you at some point matey, not the best but its working i guess. Happy sailing and fair winds to you.
We have a Trapper 500 which we’ve owned for nearly 25 years.. every time she come out there a crack at the front of the keel, it’s actually been named the Trapper smile as it’s common with Trappers! Every year I just seal the crack with some SIKAFLEX, and it back and then paint her bottom!
We just monitor it and it’s never gotten any worse.
You're basically applying lipstick to the smile 😄

really nice marina that every set up there
Aha! The good old dirty bodge to see you through to the winter!!!😜
Next time she’s out I’d be inclined to see if the keep bolts can be nipped up a bit - some of that cracking could be as a result of the ballast moving slightly. No biggy if it’s dealt with pronto
Probably the most complete video so far. Nice to see a haul out from start to finish. Good luck on your sail around 👍
I watch every single second of your content. I am about to buy my first boat and I love seeing the detail and the struggle you have. Honest and I love it
Good to see you still on the water Terry
Can’t believe you didn’t do a proper job on the keel knowing what you’re doing. As and when you’re passing Swansea give me a shout my boat needs work so can’t sail atm but if you do stop I will buy you a pint or 2. Steve
Love the boat rack.😊 what a great idea.😊
Nice repair job there. Got the job done👍. I hope the trip is going well and can't wait to see the video's. Have a pastey for me😂. Enjoy the next leg.
😂😂👍👍
I am sure your keel bolt maybe a bit loose. If you go to the top of the mast there should be a bolt that you can adjust up.😂😂😂
Yes, but take care.. it's a left hand thread.

Bodge it and scarper, Terry!
Looks pretty good to me :)
Got the job done and enabled you to get the trip underway! It's not structural like you say, so it'll be fine till winter when you'll have the time for a proper repair. Great video as always 😊
A view from the UK. I hope your sailing skills are better than your D.I.Y ones.
I know the family that owned the Marienkafer who sold it on to the chap that's working on it now. That boats been on the hard for a fair few years now
Keep going, you will get there
Never seen how they take out a yacht in the marina. Worth watching especially as i might have an impulse buy of a small yacht myself.
A bin bag and some scotch tape fix that, that's what my old man used to say lol.
😂In NZ we say "Nothing a bit of number 8 won't fix", referring to no. 8 fencing wire, odd lengths or rolls of which can be found on any NZ farm.
On the British Standard Wire Gauge, "Number 8" is 0.16-inch diameter, or 4mm, and is often used for running repairs on almost any farm equipment or building.
Excellent stuff! 👍
Good work mate
Well done with the repair
Hang in there Terry mate
Will that just keep delaminating until it is glassed in?
Yes
Terry, Terry, Terry. That keel is in poor shape and should have been repaired properly, as you originally said it would be. What you did was a really nasty bodge and will of course fail again. Why risk your boat. Also while your prop came up nicely, you need to paint (have painted) it with prop speed. Also your saildrive leg needs to be painted with an aluminium based antifoul paint. When you next pull the boat out, the whole bottom of the boat needs a hard sand back and then apply a primer (tiecoat) and then top coat with 2 coats of antifoul.
His hole adventure is beg and borrow pal he also looks the lazy type, make a great video when it sinks half way past Blackpool 😂 don't think he has the money also he gets bits off youtube and wot people give him I'm guessing. Seems a nice fella like so wish him the best 👌

One issue you get from water ingress around the stud that goes through the hull is corrosion.
The forward 3 stud’s probably suffered salt water at the point where they pass through the hull.
To rectify and verify condition of these studs requires removing the mast and then making a support cradle for the keel when the hull is lifted off it.
Don’t use silkaflex 291 or 221 to re- bed when assembled as this is adhesive sealant .
Arbo 1000 construction joint sealant is to b used.
Should studs have visible corrosion, more than likely the ones exposed by the gap incurred one has to replace .
There are block sections in the keel, square cut outs where threaded that hold the studs in place.
These are visible through antifoul in cold conditions on the hard standing.
The rig and the keel are extremely important .
Bodegit and scarper
If you think you're going to keep finding things to fix, then find them and fix them before you go. Riding out a 4o knot blow in a boat you're not sure of is not a good idea.
Looks a bit of a bodgy job, hope it holds up well
Wil be subscribing and following you journey pal. Just found your first video when you got the boat. You been working at this a while 😅 best of luck with the trip 👌
That has to be the ugliest repair of all time. Now get to sailing!
That is the most appalling attachment of a keel you could ever imagine. If it isn't a totally integral keel the keel hull joint should be available for inspection on a regular basis when redeemable work could be carried out...
This video was a bit long, but also a bit interesting. First time I see the whole process of getting a sailboat out of the water.
Long live fone....interruptions
And long live fin
please tell you neighbour's , their boat has a wrong spelling ... it's not :
Marienkafer, London ... it's
Marienkäfer , London
🎉😊🎉
I would of only used sealant between keel and hull gap. I also use edge of grinder on keel wire brush on drill is no good
Name the sailing videos round the uk in a tiny sailboat or something like that bit like round the uk in a tiny speedboat they have generated so many views hopefully the algorithm will suggest yours aswell on there videos
