  • The journey back to this sailboat was a long and hard road. After returning there was much work to be done. Then we had to put our DIY to the test with a few shakedowns and finally, I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Congratulations on the great, successful sail. That said, it was a little nerve wracking watching you hanging off the boat without a tether or life jacket. You don’t want your boat to show up at your destination without you.

Joel, I would hate to see you reported lost at sea. A Jack line or at least an inflatable PFD Please! In the cockpit is one thing, but that flailing boom is going to toss you over sooner or later. Safety, Safety, Safety. You will get complacent at some point, aggravated by fatigue and the associated decline in reasoning and dexterity. You ever tried to get back on her from the water while underway. Lost at sea is no way to end the legacy.

I found that when pulling anchor in crowded sites or when wind and/or tide was pushing us into danger, I could just walk the anchor rode back to the cockpit and continue to raise the anchor while still being able to steer and operate the engine controls. It wasn't the best for the decking and made a dirty mess, but it got us safely underway and we could always break out the buckets and mop when in the clear... And, any word from Thomas and Linda? 🤯
