I’ve heard your new intro for the past several episodes. It kinda went over my head until now, I’m beginning to work on my new to me 1973 sailboat. I don’t know if you came up with that. “Dreams are easy, growth is painful, balance is key” but man I’m starting to feel what you mean and I like that quote! 3 years of watching RUclips sailors is easier than actually finally doing it yourself haha. I just sold my house, there’s no turning back now 😂

That's one thing people forget about. Your labor is money. No, you don't have to pay yourself, but the amount of time you do the work on the projects yourself translates to money you would have had to fork out. So not having an expensive boat with complicated systems doesn't mean yours isn't just as expensive. You're just saving money by investing your own time and knowledge. Same as being a home owner, mechanic, or computer technician, etc.

I follow Sailing Zatara and they have the same kind of cat...Captain Keith is always doing repairs and upgrades...it's not cheap and he does most of the work right there in front of you. Lola would have been zooming around that island after towing you in...I miss her. You are living the dream on a budget...adaptability is the key. Cheers!

Greetings Rink - I bought Amelia because of Zatara and Keith. He did some amazing videos talking about his boat and the advantages of not only a catamaran but this specific type of catamaran.
I talked to him quite a bit, bought the same boat, and could not be happier.
3 years and 10k miles, and I love her more all the time.

One of main things that sets your vlog above many, is your willingness to share your life so openly.
Spectacular location and friends to share it with! Anticipating future vlogs. 👀🙂

Great vid Joel…I would take the minimalist boating life before being weighted down like your friend…And friends can agree to disagree, because true friendship is listening to each other’s thoughts.

Hey Joel, I enjoyed the video. As another commenter said you are a people person and you make the video. Carl is great too. We can learn a lot from you guys. You have me interested in Grenada. I would love to live there for a while and sail. I definitely would check out Sandy Island. I sail Massachusetts waters and dream about tropical waters. It would be great to meet you one day. I have met a couple of sailing RUclipsrs and really enjoyed that.

Happy Birthday! I saw your latest video about possibly crewing to deliver Amelia to Dubai. If I were you I would pass on that delivery for a couple of reasons. Piracy is real in the areas you would be sailing to, a lot of yachts have been getting taken by pirates and the people onboard either being killed or held hostage. Plus the US has waged war against Yeman and the Gulf of Aden in that area and the Arabian Sea is extremely dangerous right now for Americans not to mention the Somalia Pirates. If Amelia is to get their safely, the buyer from Dubai should send someone they know to join the Captain that the owners of Amelia hired, this way the boat has a better chance of making it to its destination. I understand that you could make good money delivering the boat but is it worth your life?

Love this. I’m not afraid to talk politics - here’s a thought from another ‘bum’ somewhat like yourself: because we don’t own capital, capitalism literally didn’t work out, probably won’t ever work out for us. We don’t need to be delusional. We will never have the choice to have others do the boat work for us, no matter how hard we try at a 9 to 5 job. We will never suddenly have a spacious multihull, get our hands on a planing dinghy, have the choice to repair broken systems when they fail, or maintain the basics no matter how many hours we work. However, we do continue to pursue the dream of swimming off the back of the boat, or taking a trip over to the secluded island - even if that means doing it from a crappy vessel. Cheers to you, and maybe see you out on the water sometime!
