I just finished another unbearably painful PT session , due to a rotator cuff surgery and am delighted to see another bumbling and waffling video. Windvane broke , lash the tiller arm? Improvisation and humor is your biggest ally. You just gotta embrace the absurdity of life because it's not going to go away. We're rooting for you here and hoping your channel will grow into a monster like Uma or Parlay. I want to see you live the dream. Keep the three hour tour going.
Marvelous episode, fantastic cinematography with an epic sound track. Rounding Portland Bill on this seaworthy craft is a must see sailing channel. Truly amazing this one!
It might seem like you are constantly struggling and getting nowhere with everything going wrong and stuff breaking but it's still very early days and in time it will get easier, I promise you ! People with experience make it seem so easy and are always prepared for the worst but it took them time to get to that position too, nobody does it overnight, stick with it Terry and don't let things get you down, you are far more capable than you know ! 👍
Persistence is the key to success in anything and you obviously have that in spades...also, having the right attitude and looking on the bright side goes a long, long way in turning a disaster into an 'experience'. You're building an audience who're firmly behind you. Keep at it👍👍👍
Keep flogging ahead mate, your doing fantastic, we spend whole seasons just working out the bugs , a few years even. Longer to prepair for even a small crossing. Alot of that is just getting up the courage to cast off and you've already done that.
Bumbling maketh your best videos! As a dreamer on dry land I can only echo what many others have said - keep up the good work. When I started watching you pretty much expected the boat to sink. This is real progress! You are doing well and have come so far 👍
You will get there, it’s just old boat stuff, shit breaks. If it’s any consolation, I sailed though that blow you mentioned heading east, it wasn’t very pleasant.
Hang on in there buddy, there’s always setbacks with sailing and solving them is all part of sailing process, when you solve a problem take pride in what you’ve accomplished
Even the 'best' in the most 'expensive' can go pears real quick...thats the beauty of the sea....its always in charge, but plse get a few charts, u gotta know where the pesky hazards r .....Love these vids keep em coming.
I feel very sorry for you and the problems you are having with your boat; however, it is an old boat with a lack of maintenance to deal with, fix fix fix it's all you can do. Next Wednesday 14th, I start my first trip on the Queen Bee from Noss on Dart marina to my mooring ball in Dale, Milford Haven. It should be a blast.
Put it all down to experience mate, as you said it’s sailing and boats, alas things don’t always go to plan and things do fail from time to time in boats. All you can do is fix them up and have another go. Keep smiling, your learning all the time afterall. 👍.
Have a look at 'Sheet to Tiller' steering. For the sake of a couple of bungies, a cleat or two and some rope, it might be just enough to get you out of a pickle in those instances when all your gear fails.
All haste and less speed , take a rest and recharge your mind take stock of things and get squared up again , one thing at a time and take your time to get going again😊
What you have is a wind trim wind vane,(does it have a small rudder attached to the rear of the first rudder?) Disconnect it when not in use it will want to turn you the wrong way, Tie or Fix the rudder to the middle when you are facing in the correct heading then ,,,place the wind trim facing the wind, You will need this to sail big passages!
You do you. Don’t worry about the hair. Wind blown hair is lovely. I watch your videos because you raw and natural. I don’t want made up cleverness. Keep talking and show truthfulness.
I think you are starting to operate like a very competent experienced sailor (not that I am one) massive progress well done, Id trust you as a captain.
Sounds like a sea breeze. On sunny days the wind near the coast will often switch to onshore by lunchtime ish if the meteo wind isn’t too strong. If the meteo wind is onshore then the sea breeze will make it windier near the shore. It’s useful to know if you are coastal sailing as you can often use it to your advantage.
Being a land lubber there's a lot of head work to get from A-B with winds & tides in a boat, Coupled with the bad luck of gear breaking I'm beginning to think you've sailed over a black cat 🤣 I hope your luck changes soon mate and you get to start your sailing adventure, I'll still be following you. I'd be on the piss by now if it was me lol. 😃
"Everything went wrong, nothing went to plan. Such is sailing" Yep, sounds about right. My 'I'll be ready in a week' [to catch you up] has become, 'how much can you afford to spend on this engine?'
Really like your stuff man. I was / am so close to buying a little boat too ,,,,, Hey stop fast forwarding let the camera chill its great to watch :) Love your little ship 👊
nice video again, love your stile. If you have time/feel like it, could you do an item on your windvane? I guess a lot of people (certainly me) would love to see how it works an it's build.
When getting to the boy, change the your mind set... Maybe let's get a fishing rod out and see if I can catch me dinner get it on camera on RUclips and your making content and learning
Just stumbled upon your channel. Keep on keepin on mate. I heard a reference to Selsey Bill in one of your other videos. I recognize that name from an old Jam song... Saturdays Kids I think. I found and am gonna buy Jack's astro navigation books. Thats the cheap part... a sextant can be spendy. Cheers from across the pond.
Next time bud, next time. 👍 you could also try and catch one of those dolphins, put a harness on it and let it pull you where you want to go by dangling a sardine in front of it. Could work...
Good morning, terry my name, I've been following you since the start of your adventure, I'm in my old dodge motorhome over looking weymouth bay, coming down to portland tonight, if I can find you,I'll buy you a pint if you up for one😂

Tiller pilot should be an easy fix, I'd ditch the wind vane for now, one less thing to break. Your motor starts & stops & seems to run OK don't know what reason you have to doubt it
@@BumblingSailor so it has to be transmission, prop or shaft, is it the same in reverse. If reverse is OK then its got to be transmission, have you looked at the fluid? I think you need a motor as backup to sails, with your level of sailing experience I think it's a safety issue. Could you aquire or borrow a decent outboard? You can just set the outboard in forward and use the boat tiller to steer. I have a good 4hp yamaha I would happily lend to you but its in Essex
@@BumblingSailor can you send it up the mast on a spare halyard? Curious what you'd get. I just lost another drone in the drink so I'm thinking I might go with a 360.
