I inherited my grandparents' 98 Expedition with the 4.6 Canadian motor.

I knew the filter would be in that general area but you made me realize it was a little bit further inside...
This just fucked with my anxiety lol
I had to use a special wrench to unlock my 99 Ford Expedition. If I remember right.. the scissor like tool has to clamp on the fitting one side a time. I think you pull the tool tight like wrench and pull away from the filter itself on either side. I don't think you need to have a tool for reinstalling it. I don't think tasting gas is great for you..but I try to blow through the old filter it probably will be a little clogged. I think they should be replaced every 2 years. I've heard every 10k miles.. This can damage the fuel pump. I have replaced one a few years in this vehicle. It requires taking the gas tank down. The tank itself probably weighs 20 lbs. Not much but water wsighs around 8 lbs a gallon. Say you had filled your car up the day before.
That would weigh probably over hundred lbs. Now I did that job myself.. I put it on a jack to get the tank. Not for beginners. People that drive these vehicles should realize that the pump motor itself probably weighs few ounces. They are very small and have big job to do. The filter is often forgot..it can cause erratic symptoms and sometimes are
mistaken as sensors etc.
Try doing a filter change on a 1999 4X4 5.4L , no room 😬
But in mud or ice you'll make it much further than me. :-)
Were you able to get to it and replace it? Need to replace mine same year and everything
The (no) access is brutal on the 4x4s. Nearly impossible to get both hands in there. As a result, they get skipped resulting in all kinds of problems that can have you changing parts and scratching your head!

Yesterday I was right beneath that baby, oh boy, a few ounces went into my mouth and nose, EYES, the Lord is great and I still have my sight.
How does that make the Lord great? Common sense may have been better.
Change fuel pump for 1999 Ford Expedition
Wish I watched this earlier.... Had done everything right but had no special part to remove the quick connects. Went to Advanced Auto and they had no idea what I was talking about. Took longer than usual...
Those quick disconnects are a pain even with the tool. :-/
@tyler amburg there isn't any way that I know of. Advance Auto has them, that person apparently doesn't know tools.

Completely different from my fuel filter, mine is on top of the tank, and only nuts holding it in on each side😳
