I threw the lower shock bolt in the garbage (it was far worse than yours was) and went and bought a 1/2” grade 8 bolt with a smooth shank. Using one that is threaded all the way was a poor design by ford. I did have to run a 1/2” drill bit through the lower shock mount holes on the lower control arm to size it up from 3/8”. The 1/2” bolt fit in the bushing sleeve perfectly, didn’t bind, and also had zero play. The rear shocks had the correct style bolt and didn’t need to be replaced.

If you took a wire brush and cleaned the threads on bolt first that nut probably would have backed off more.

The replacement bolts from ford are really expensive. Do you happen to know the length/thread pitch of these bolts and the ones at the rear shocks?
