I didn't know FNAF until I watched the movie. To me, it was just a random movie going on when I went to the movies, and I decided to watch it. The energy in the room was insane. People were rooting, shouting, clapping, screaming in excitement at every little thing that happened on screen, referencing the games. They absolutely loved to see the yellow rabbit, they loved to see the original cast, they loved Balloon Boy, they loved everything. I've never watched a movie where the audience was so openly in love with the movie as they were first watching it. And despite a few things I wish where more interesting in the movie itself, it set me on an exploratory journey to get to know the franchise as a whole, and today I have played all the original games by Scott and I adored it. FNAF is amazing, and the movie is a bloody success no matter what anyone has to say about it.
Interesting. I didn't think the audience was that lively when I went to see it, but people react to things differently, without it being a criticism of the movie
The fact that Scott’s first reaction to the negative reviews on the movie was “what am i gonna tell the fans” is so heartwarming . He really does care about us and that’s hard to say about a lot of other developers.

The movie was mediocre to cringe, couldn't be more generic. Astonishing how the movie took years because a bunch of scripts were discarded, but this was the one we got? No way. I can see why some enjoyed the movie, but to say it was amazing is just too much.

24:19 Scott saying that one of his "more liked" characters in the Steel Wool games is Vanny is actually so awesome, and it's great to hear that he feels like she was underused and wants to see more of her.
The fact Scott keeps Vanny in his mind and thinks she deserves more of a spotlight makes me happy. Her being my favorite character i am really looking forward for what he might have planned for her if he decides to go for it.
@@AndrewJohn100 True, I just wonder if we'll ever get some kind of "director's cut" or something to see what Scott originally planned. Also, I watched your most recent update the other day, I just wanna say I support you doing whatever makes you happy :)
That makes hella sense it felt like Sonic 06 where not only was it rushed but had to many stories going on hell we the fans pretty much hadda come up with what we decided was the true ending
Imagine being the creator of a property, you go watch a movie made of it that you poured your blood sweat and tears into, thinking everyone hated it, and you hear cheers. Imagine that. What a man scott cawthon.
I love stuff like this. Where Scott isn't just "the dev that's distantly making FNAF somewhere else", but constantly worried for the fans and wishing the best for them. The fact he explained the thorough and difficult part of making a movie, the way he explained FNAF World's own impact on his prideful moment in his life, and even explaining WHY Security Breach ended up so divisive and messed up.... It makes him seem so much more human than anyone else I've ever seen or met on this platform or even in real life. It's weird to find relatability with the creator of FNAF himself despite me being some random commenter, but I'm EXTREMELY proud of what's done and what he's gone through and what's Scott's like in this interview. Also, just fun and epic stuff (even as small possibilities) overall in the future! *FNAF World 2 COULD happen if Scott wants to in the future!* Thank you Scott Cawthon! For everything! And a happy 10 years to this franchise!! :D
No, because you can even feel how it all fits, he wanted to continue with it, supposedly originally was written there "for now" and in fnaf world he wanted to open the box, but then he changed it to "forever" and deleted that part from fnaf world, so we'll probably never know what he had in mind at that time
He didn't say he forgot, he basically said that the box holds some ideas he had for the games that either didn't go anywhere or weren't what he planned for the future of these games.
So basically, the box is a metaphor and reminder for Scott to better manage and control the narrative when working on future games. I think that’s more satisfying than any child corpse or animatronic mask. P.S. idk about anyone else but this interview really reignited my love for this series since it solved a lot of the issues i had with the franchise as it currently stands.
@@valentynar1143 I think he was going to reveal Mike as the bully & play into the Afton family, ending the story just as the rest of FNAF 4's final chapter tried to-- "four games, one story", about one family (Purple guy is William who is Springlocked, Mike Schmidt / every playable night guard is Michael who sacrifices himself as punishment for he & his family's sins, Crying Child is Bite Victim / Golden Freddy who is given his happiest day, Elizabeth who was already missing & forgotten during FNAF 4's events). To represent these themes he would use the Freddy cast plushies + Fredbear's surveillance plush, Michael's Foxy mask, the illusion discs of the Nightmares used to torment Michael, William's security badge & certificate of incorporation as a co-owner of Fazbear's, Elizabeth's Mangle toy pieces that accompany her empty room, and finally BV's recovered frontal lobe fragments and/or corpse. He keeps the Bite Victim's body for a Fazbear coverup story but also as a way to "put him back together" by stuffing him into Golden Freddy to trigger supernatural possession via Agony. After a seemingly unsuccessful possession when the suit only spring locks, he pulls out the pieces and gives up hope in reanimating his son without ever realizing that the process had been partly successful (Golden Freddy's "IT'S ME" in reference his brother Michael, interfering with the digital world by crashing the game / manifesting at will as a hallucination, having the power to trap Afton in a never-ending purgatory or personal Hell after being taken off life support out of his coma and killed by his father). He changed his mind after the lore problems FNAF 4 added, went back to explore the Aftons & develop them through Sister Location immediately afterwards, and expanded upon them + the previous game in the surveillance room DLC. After Sister Location raised new questions, he again revisited the Aftons and put them back together to rest their souls in Pizza Sim (simultaneously expanding upon his connection to Freddy's with Midnight Motorist / Charlie's death, his relations with Michael, AND how possession works in-universe via Agony, which also explains William's transformation from a children's restauranteur family man to a tragedy-riddled children's captor & serial killer. After continuing the story instead of ending it on FNAF 4, there was no need for this grand reveal. He already explored that path with Sister Location, SL's DLC, Pizza Sim, Security Breach, the books, etc. in a different way than he was going for in FNAF 4 so the box is no longer important. It was a plot point intended as the series' climax that was translated into one of many plot points to progress the story forwards, so the box ITSELF is best left forgotten, forever. It holds no new secrets and anything of interest was already transformed into parts of the series we have today. TL;DR the box was a collection of memorabilia and sentimental items revealing that the story centers around the Afton family + the larger than life, downright supernatural tragedy they curated in both life and death. The box is now useless because it centered around FNAF's climactic resolution only for Scott to continue with the games out of dissatisfaction. From this continuation, big story beats & reveals gained from the box mean nothing as they were picked apart & renovated for big story beats & reveals gained in Sister Location, its DLC, Pizza Sim, Security Breach, and the book series (in Scott's own words, "the contents of the box changed over the years"-- this is how, new formulas & avenues to get the same idea across in new games, whilst replacing the old symbology & contents with new tales).
Scott mentioned that Burntrap was never supposed to move in Security Breach, and then in Ruin you find the comic piece showing that the Burntrap ending wasn't canon. I think that was Scott's way of retconning that ending in order to put the story back on track so that it could be closer to what he originally had planned. I would love to find out what Scott's original plan for Security Breach was.
I haven't played the game, but what if the true ending is an amalgamation of the other endings to a degree. Yet I might have to check out the FNAF games though and possibly the books. The theories surrounding FNAF are interesting.
@@zenvariety9383interesting thing the ONLY emding not used for art is the ending where gregory free vanessa from vannys control its presumed this means that THAT was the real canon ending
@@michaelbecket4901 or the drawings represent one night at the Pizzaplex. So at the end of the sixth night, the Burntrap ending, Gregory returned to the Pizzaplex to play Princess Quest.
Burntrap not moving makes the original games being an indie game work better. Those games were games, the real sprintrap is burntrap, straight retconned redesign.
Seeing Scott acknowledging issues like Security Breach's messy results, the film's flaws and specially his lack of communication with Steel Wool during SB's development gives me a lot of hope for the future of the franchise.
My interpretation is that the box is the embodiment of Crying Child's/Mike's soul/memories (I believe in Memory/ShatterVictim, FreeVictim and MikeVictim) that was scattered after the Bite of 83 and Cassidy directed him his whole life to put back together his soul and he finished it in The Happiest Day after FFPS.

@@ManimalMoose Tbh until this interview i was under the impression that Scott was very hands-off for Security Breach, since it was the first proper fnaf game after he "retired". I honestly thought he came out of retirement because he didn't like the game. :P
To be fair, I can imagine him being hesitant to connect with the fans after the dreadful hate/smear campaign against him by the loud envious minority portion of the fanbase that essentially got him to "retire" from hands on game development.
Hearing that Scott had a completely different idea for Security Breach's plot makes me want a Cawthon Cut of Security Breach. Maybe once Steel Wool has gotten a few more free-roam games under their belt, we could actually see some sort of Security Breach Redux or Director's Cut.
You don't know how *BADLY* I've been wanting that ever since I learned about the *massive* amount of cut content that's in SB. It was extremely apparent that what we got in the final product was completely different from what the devs and Scott really wanted to cook up for the game. I am satisfied with the answer to the box. I get that when you have an idea, that it sounds real cool in the beginning, but we all go through a art/writers block and the ideas don’t seem so appealing anymore that you forget about them and when asked if they have anything to do with lore or story, you have no idea cause you haven’t thought about it in so long. I also can’t believe it’s been ten years! Wow look how much this game has grown! This was a great interview! Can’t wait for another one after five years lol!
This answer made this ending even more... Artistic, at least for Scott. It's poetic in the way that it represents ideas that will never be fulfilled, stories that will never be told, and plans that will never be fleshed out. Also makes us finally put the box to rest, since Scott himself said it's not something he pursued. It's a piece that we now need to leave behind and move on.
*”Hello? Hello, hello? If you’re hearing this, then you have survived 10 years of Freddy’s world domination. Congrats!”* Thank you for creating this beautiful franchise, Scott ❤
That's so emotional. Hearing that he saw critics didn't like it, ready to lose hope, but even Jason Blum said that it is amazing and the true people that care love it. Literally teaching Scott the importance of the fans rather than the critics.
"Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now." Seems like Scott forgot for too long and the contents of the box became moldy and had to throw it out.
He didn't say he forgot, he basically said that the box holds some ideas he had for the games that either didn't go anywhere or weren't what he planned for the future of these games.
Hearing him talk about how he didnt know how to apologise to his fans and to blumhouse is so hitting man, you can really hear how much he cares for this fanbase and fnaf in general. WE LOVE YOU SCOTT
It’s refreshing to see that even Scott can realize security breach had some issues, and when he was describing seeing burntrap standing in a corner, really seemed like it would’ve been much scarier
Had a lot more than some issues, but I'm still glad he opened up to it. Part of me still wishes the game would have either been canceled or have it's development restart. Anything to prevent that launch day. It seriously negatively effected my opinion on the series as a whole at the time.
I don’t mind it but definitely would’ve preferred Fortnite, I get he wants fnaf integrity’s intact but Fortnite it would’ve been a bigger hit especially since the new season is dropping soon (doubt it would’ve been like OG since it brought 50mill active players when it dropped) but fnaf could’ve possibly done it since it’s well loved. I don’t play DBD anymore and probably going to try to see the fnaf dlc but a whole year from now? Yeah imma forget

@@borcayc7438 yeah but the banana skin seems to still be fairly thin, the animatronics are bulky and round. The only solution I can think of is how Apex Legends has a few bulky characters with big hit boxes, they just lower the damage intake that they get so it evens the playing field.
This interview is so interesting. Scott is so humble and down to earth. Also his care about preserving the innocence of the kids that are dead inside the animatronics, that's so sweet...
The box being everything in Scott’s mind for the future of fnaf, the path it was meant to take, locked away forever, is honestly an answer I’m happy with. Of course it will always be a mystery of, “what was that path?” Who knows? Probably no one now. As he said, even he can’t dig it back up and it makes sense considering fnaf 4 came out so many years ago now.
Funny you should say "dig it back up", considering what looks like a shallow grave in midnight motorist and what is reached in a forest in FNAF World kinda resembling the location.
@@thymii It was definitely an unintentional reference, but that’s what makes fnaf so great. You can tie in references to so much of its story and gameplay. Truly a well thought of series

It really shows how humble Scott kept his lifestyle during his first interview, he was a multimillionaire by that point but still had a terrible microphone
I feel if matpat was on his deathbed: scott would of made a script if the lore from start to finish and only let select few see it. Only because they helped raise fnaf up with Scott.
Something was in the box, something important, something relevant to the lore, but at some point the idea got discarded/changed. I have always believed that there was a body inside the box, and that there was a scene planned about the crying child finding his own body inside the box.
I always thought it would have been evidence or something against William Afton, but yours would have been crazy! (In the best way). I hope someday we'll get a book or something where it tells all the scrapped plans and lore and we'll finally find out what was in the box
Reminds me of TBOI and the way in some of the ending cutscenes Isaac opens the chest to only have the realization that its his own body inside already long gone. But storytelling-wise that would be quite an emotional moment, unfortunate that we won’t know for certain though
Hearing Scott being heartbroken at the bad reviews for the movie honestly made me tear up because that movie meant EVERYTHING to me when I watched it. Ive basically grown up on FNAF, it was my childhood treasure, and my little cousin and I have shared in that love for the franchise over the years. So we went to see it the day after it came out, completely blind, and buddy... you should have heard that tiny little theater erupt with passion whenever something was mentioned for the fans or whenever we saw our favorite youtubers, and the CREDITS SONG LMAOO To put it into perspective, my little cousin and I sat in my car for about an hour just yapping about what a masterpiece it was. I think you did your fans amazingly, man, and you should be proud for giving us such a gift. We're always watching for your next project!! HAPPY ANIVERSARYYYY!!!
I had the same reaction as well when Scott said that!! I cried when the fnaf movie started because fnaf is so important to me, my entire family knows. Even my long distance cousin came from the United States to see the movie with me, she even bought us matching t shirts!!! I’m so glad that Scott found a new perspective when it was revealed to him that the fans loved it, because it wasn’t a good horror movie, but it was the perfect fnaf movie
Finally some relatable thoughts of the fnaf movie :) Fnaf has been here for me almost my whole life. It means to me so extremely much. I remember that the day after the movie came out I just sat in the middle of the night, reading the reviews and it was literally one of my worst life experiences. I felt so bad for Scott after he said the thing about the reviews. And I feel a little bad for him even now as I read the comments saying that the fnaf movie was trash. It is my favorite movie of all time. I remember that like a day before the movie had its premiere in my country, my friends asked me if we wanted to go together to watch it. But soon I realized that I had a very little time the next day and it wasn’t truly possible to go watch it. But I still tried my best and somewhat managed to find some time. But then the friends just kinda invited ten people to their house, not caring that we were supposed to go watch a movie in half an hour and at one point it was too late to go watch it and they were like: well, we can go the other day? They didn’t really care how I felt after that. And it was a really bad feeling because I was so hyped all the day and after that I just cried (don’t judge pls). Then after a few days I finally found my time and went to watch it myself. All alone with no one else. And it was the best experience of my life. I quietly enjoyed the movie and I knew that it was right this way. Fnaf is life (idk if my comment was just a waste of time. Srry if it’s unrelated to the topic or something, I just tend to talk a lot one it comes to fnaf)

I’ve never believed that Scott had an initial object or spirit inside the box. Scott didn’t figure out the entire lore in 2015. He wouldn’t have created the biggest mystery for lore he didn’t even know.
Well the idea is that he had an idea of what was in the box, but the story went a different direction and what he originally intended for the box wouldn't fit into today's story
Kinda shows why Security Breach was such a mess, Scott had no real control over the development, he just threw stuff at Steel Wool and they had no idea what to do with it lol
@@RyanSoltani Funny, because he basically saw Steel Wool as fans, giving them vague information and details instead of a coherent plot. Hopefully the new Steel Wool game has Scott either be more involved or just not involved at all, no strings attached.

I guy who died and got mistaken for a prop for so many years because the memory of who he was just completely lost and no one alive knew about him, like all the characters in FnaF at that point wouldn’t know who Afton is or was and just see Burntrap and think he’s simply a prop meanwhile the fans would see it and think “oh god” Really unfortunate that the idea didn’t fully work out

scott is one of my favorite game developers and it’s literally only because of how much he passion he has for all his story and the fact that he actually listened to fans of his games. i’m so glad that man’s hard work payed off and created so many good memories for all our childhoods.
Freddy's picture to the first game was mine for one night. Where my imagination was really powerful. So seeing him every time I closed my eyes was so sure something to think about when I tried to sleep at that time... ^^"
@@AlexMartinez-nj9io Easy, the soundtrack, the visuals and all technical aspects relating to the animatronics and the sets that make the Pizzeria come to life, the story offers some interesting concepts such as the dream theory that was originally going to be introduced in FNAF 4 but Scott disregarded it in favor of the illusion discs but that finally got a glimpse of it in the movie, plus as a thriller the movie works well considering that despite all of the goofy moments there is a sense that there might be something wrong behind the curtains but of course that everyone didn’t want FNAF to be a thriller but rather a straight up horror which is fair and understandable considering I’m also one of the bunch. And the point I’m trying to make here is that despite the movie having its flaws and being able to not reach its full potential it’s not even close to be a terrible film, mediocre at worst and enjoyable at best so despite every one of us having our own opinions it’s for the better if we analyze more in depth for what the movie did right and what it could’ve done better and hope that FNAF 2 will improve upon these flaws.
@@lonelysatoshi2482 Well, I applaud you for actually explaining your thoughts on the film, still don’t agree with you, though. The production design is great, the music is good, and besides a few concepts, that’s kinda where my positives end. I gotta agree with the critics here, this movie was absolutely terrible, even coming from someone who has been here since 2014, before the second game had even come out. Nothing, no matter how great the ideas were, how good the acting was, none of that changes the fact that this was a poorly developed, poorly paced, and overall, poorly put together film, which you don’t seem to disagree with. This was not an enjoyable watch, aside from a few references. I just couldn’t get over how awful aspects of the movie were, like the bad dialogue, which was mostly Vanessa, the contrived plot, the unanswered questions, and just how sloppy everything felt. FNaF is supposed to be a Horror and Mystery franchise, but the movie felt nothing like that, despite it being marketed as such. The way everything is presented feels like the film is talking down to its audience, it has to spoon feed every bit of information instead of letting us figure things out. The film feels bloated, yet shallow. It’s overly complicated because how much it tries to stuff information down our throats, and that’s mostly in the final act. I don’t know what, “analyzing it for what it did right” would help the filmmakers with, especially because, in my opinion, there are barely any positives, and most of then come from the technical aspects. Pretty much everything regarding the story is just bad. Criticizing the film for its faults, though obviously disappointing to hear for someone who worked on it, much less the creator of the franchise, is what helps people improve on their next project. Criticism is literally the reason why Scott is where he is today, so I’d hope that he would take it to improve on second one, but we’ll see. FNaF was genuinely just not a good movie, and I didn’t even like it in the perspective of a former fan, it was just disappointing.
53:22 I think this is as satisfying of an answer as it can possibly be. I believe this is just the ultimate confirmation from Scott himself that the box is practically irrelevant to the story now. It doesn't matter what was or is inside the box, at this point it holds a clue to solve a story that was never carried forward. Some things are better left forgotten. This is basically Scott saying "I had an idea, but I didn't take it; forget the box, it's irrelevant".
I always thought the box really was more of a tease or metaphor towards theorists with FNAF 4 being planned as the final chapter in the series, not everything demands an answer, and some things in life just go unsolved, but that’s okay. :)
The placement name thing with GLITCHTRAP is soooo relatable and hilarious. Also did anyone else find it satisfying hearing him talk about Vanny? I just loved that!
Scott's inspiration for Bunny Call was honestly really cool to hear about. I didn't expect his actual experience to be this close to what happened in the book, excluding the big agony bunny trying to kill him.

They did experiment with the cheese crawl under the show stage for a bit but it was never failed or removed for a specific reason. Just eventually ended up being phased out. No one got PTSD, it’s a serious mental struggle that comes from witnessing traumatic events like murders and sexual assaults, people did not get PTSD from crawling under the Chuck E Cheese animatronics 💀

Very interesting perspective, it doesn't really occur to me someone's first real taste of the franchise was the movie. Good on you though
Interesting. I didn't think the audience was that lively when I went to see it, but people react to things differently, without it being a criticism of the movie

Where Scott isn't just "the dev that's distantly making FNAF somewhere else", but constantly worried for the fans and wishing the best for them.

*FNAF World 2 COULD happen if Scott wants to in the future!*
Thank you Scott Cawthon! For everything! And a happy 10 years to this franchise!! :D
Scott really took the "some things are best left forgotten forever" thing literally
P.S. idk about anyone else but this interview really reignited my love for this series since it solved a lot of the issues i had with the franchise as it currently stands.
scott "moving the goal post" cawthon. one of the most incompetent writers ive ever seen. dude just makes new stuff up every turn

It was basically a long winded way of saying “I completely forgot what’s in the box”. We’ll never know now 😤

🔥Five Laps At Freddy's
Hearing Scott being heartbroken at the bad reviews for the movie honestly made me tear up because that movie meant EVERYTHING to me when I watched it. Ive basically grown up on FNAF, it was my childhood treasure, and my little cousin and I have shared in that love for the franchise over the years. So we went to see it the day after it came out, completely blind, and buddy... you should have heard that tiny little theater erupt with passion whenever something was mentioned for the fans or whenever we saw our favorite youtubers, and the CREDITS SONG LMAOO
To put it into perspective, my little cousin and I sat in my car for about an hour just yapping about what a masterpiece it was.
Finally some relatable thoughts of the fnaf movie :)
Fnaf has been here for me almost my whole life.
The ending of the movie was pretty trash

Bro. The rotten tomatoes critics were born in a lab and whenever a movie comes out they emerge and criticize it then go back into confinement.
What was so good about the movie?
Thank you for the timestamp!
I always thought the box really was more of a tease or metaphor towards theorists with FNAF 4 being planned as the final chapter in the series, not everything demands an answer, and some things in life just go unsolved, but that’s okay. :)
