I should have double checked that the filter was tight....turned car on after it pressurized and blew the filter right off!! 😂 This time made sure it clicked like you said.....Thanks for all your informative video content. I enjoy your thoughtful way of explaining repairs.
Thanks so much for this video. I was able to follow your clear instruction, and swap out my wife's 03 Expedition fuel filter within a half hour. It fixed a rough idle problem we have been having for the last few weeks, and other suspect parts had already been replaced recently. So, it was worth a gamble on such an easy to replace part, and paid off. Thanks again.
Thank You! This tough economy forces me to do my own automotive repairs which I stopped doing as soon as it was possible (back in the 1970s.) Some things have changed! I watched 2 dozen videos on Ford fuel filters, tanks, and pumps trying to figure out how those damn connectors are supposed to decouple! Everyone either assume this is common knowledge or you're to stupid to work on a car. Some made an attempt at it but bad lighting, a poor camera angle, or a poor script still left me scratching my head. A couple even got it just plain wrong. Having now swapped gas tanks from a parts car to my user, I now have it down. Even armed with this knowledge and the benefit of numerous successes, I find this a dubious improvement that only adds a layer of frustration and additional components likely to fail but again, thank you for clearing this up!
Thanks for posting this. Looks easy to replace so I looked on AutoZone and they were over $40 here and checked you link and it was a little over $18. Thanks for the link cause I just purchased one. Even after 6 years your link is still cheaper 😆 thanks again.
Thank you for all the step by step videos, i have been an avid Ford truck owner for many years and always performed my own maintenance on vehicles you have given me the confidence to exceed my former comfort levels and perform jobs on 2 vehicles with the 5.4 3v engine. If i can i would like to request a video on an older vehicle rear axle ring and pinion replacement, 95 Bronco?
Hey! GREAT Job! I use RUclips videos to prep for a lot of mechanical jobs - both truck/vehicle and RV, property etc. Yours is one of the most to-the-point, well photo'd tutorials I've seen.
On the 2008 Ford Expedition is the 5/16 fuel filter line considered the return line. My fuel filter has 2 lines from tank to filter (1) 3/8 / (1) 5/16 then a single 3/8 coming out of the filter to the fuel rails.
For anybody who ends up breaking one of these fittings like I did (the green plastic piece inside the disconnect fused to the steel tube of the filter and came out with the filter all gnarled up), you can buy these fittings on Amazon. They’re called Bundy disconnects.
I just wrecked my 03 ford expedition. I can only find parts for a 04 ford expedition. I'm wondering if they both have the same body? Fender front bumber and hood.
So, I just did this but one of the quick connectors wouldn't come off. Fine sand had gotten in there and caked up. The connector ended up breaking at the plastic elbow. Any suggestions on how to avoid replacing the entire line? Perhaps by m cutting off the connector and using a metal elbow, rubber hose and clamps? Alternatively, what's the part number for the line that connects into the bottom of the two necks on the filter and how do I install it? Can't find info on this online.
Need to catch that fuel if your on black top. I just use an old steel cake pan. Escape have only in/out lines to filter but just as easy on a cold engine.
Thanks for another great video. I just bought an 03 expedition 5.4L 2V and it has a slight oil leak which I think is the valve cover gaskets. I looked up the FelPro parts on Amazon and there are a number of differnt part numbers llisted. Can you let me know if you have a recommended FelPro gasket type (part no) for the 03 expy's? Thanks again!
Hello there. I have an 04 Expedition that has recently blown the rear drivers side tire at 80mph. Consequently the vehicle will not start. The Gas cap was broken and has been replaced, but there seems to be a tube missing. I believe that its the tank vent tube. There is a hole to the left of the filler cap that I think the filler tube belongs. I have also noticed that there is a little rectangular box located in the same assembly as my charcoal canister. This box has writing on it that says "to canister" . It looks like it goes to the canister solenoid if that is the correct term. The problem is that its not hooked to anything at the other end. There is a 90 degree fitting on the other end of the hose but it is broken off. If i had to Guess, it looks like the other end may have something to do with the vent tube perhaps. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
My shop told me the 03 Expy did not have an external Fuel Filter. It would be integrated with the Fuel Pump inside the Fuel Tank. Mine is an early production. Could they have changed this mid production?
Im having a leak that looks to be coming from the top of the tank after i had a front tire pop on the freeway, im thinking i might have moved something when removing the spare tire underneath, do you have any idea what could it be? Its an 03 expo 4.6 motor thanks
What do I do if a white and blue o ring come off with fhe filter? I have an 08 5.4 f250 that has 1 of these clips on each end and the 2 pieces came off on both ends and now wont clip back in
can you tell me what engine oil to use on a land rover freelander v6 2.5 2001 I dont have the manual and the cap does not say any other tips on this mini suv
FordTechMakuloco I’m working on my mother’s 2003 4.6 expedition right now. It has an intermittent misfire that is making me crazy. It has new spark plugs about 20K ago. Was showing a mis on cylinder 6 so I replaced the coil pack a day later and it is now showing a mis on cylinder 4. I can’t find a vid of yours on this issue. It has 140K on the motor. Very clean vehicle.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Interesting side note. I noticed no pressure that relived out of the top valve when I hit the pin. IDK I'd that's a normal thing to have happen...or....? Very descriptive video. Thank you!!!!!
I actually got sprayed in the face slightly with gas one time. Always wear eye protection. Didn't taste good. Nor did it feel good in my eye. LOL Alas, I'm still here.
Agreed. I changed one on my old thunderbird turbo coupe and it sprayed with so much force in my eye it actually filled up my eyelid. I had to squeeze the gas out. It sucked!
Instead of releasing pressure from the engine, why not just open the cap on the gas filler tube? since the line is contiguous it should depressurize -- the same amount of fuel coming from the engine side draining would be the same. there is no back pressure valve to stop fuel in the line, is there?
I should have double checked that the filter was tight....turned car on after it pressurized and blew the filter right off!! 😂 This time made sure it clicked like you said.....Thanks for all your informative video content. I enjoy your thoughtful way of explaining repairs.
Had a pretty good idea of what to do but SHOWING the actually pressure release valve made a huge difference. Thanks so much brother!!

Thank you for all the great videos. You have saved me thousands over the years.
Thank you. Very helpful and professional. Wish all mechanics were as thorough as you.
You explain all repairs excellent, thank you for your time and patience.
I open my gas cap to depresurrize the system...but u sure make it look easy ..very good tutorial...thank u...

Great video, thanks for fully explaing the process and not skipping over details 👍
Really well shot video. perfect lighting and its always cool cuz you show us where things are and what they are. Thanks~!
Great video, clear instructions and the plus of releasing the fuel pressure some other videos did not include in theirs. Thanks!
Excellent instructions, just changed fuel filter on my 2004 Expedition without any problems.
Excellent instruction with great safety procedures. Thank you
Thank you for the HELP! Video is very well done and the instructions are good. Couldn't have done it without your help. Again thank you.
As always very thorough!! Enjoyed comparison video on the F-150 vs Eco-Diesel
great video always good to go over the basic stuff. great job! even the small things people forget.
Best Ford videos out there
I had to like and subscribe cause it's a really good tutorial, thx
Great tips. Made my replacement a snap! 👍🏼
Thanks for the tip of using a LED light when changing the fuel filter .
Great instructions as always. Would love to see a video on a 2010 Expedition fuel filter.

Is the procedure the same for a 2008 expy or do you have a video on that?

How do you remove the broken connector?
Whats the size
has any one figured out how to remove it ?
Keep wiggling it’s seems hard but it will come offf
Zip ties are my friend. Idk why i watched this video but it was recommended on my playlist 😅
What if you break it off at the bend? Anyway to fix it without replace the whole line?
I just wrecked my 03 ford expedition. I can only find parts for a 04 ford expedition. I'm wondering if they both have the same body? Fender front bumber and hood.
03-04 were the same

Good video! A little different from my 2005 expedition.
Exact same as my 05
How do u remove the clips that have a green and red clips? I cant seem to get them off an 08 navigator…
Dear Makuloco :
Does the 2008 Expedition has the same fuel filter sistem? it'll be the same procedure?
Thanks.
Need to catch that fuel if your on black top. I just use an old steel cake pan. Escape have only in/out lines to filter but just as easy on a cold engine.

Can I drain the old (bad) gas out from the backside of the fuel filter? Would I unhook it and then turn the key to pump it out?
Just looked at mine it’s wet can fuel filter cause it to start up and die after sitting then won’t start again
Do you know where I can purchase the quick release clips? One of the quick releases is broken on my truck and it won't seal properly.
Hello , Please do yo know where can i find the Fuel Pressure Regulator ? i have a ford expedition xlt 2003 4.6l .....thank you very much
Any tips for getting the cap off?
Great video. Thanks, very helpful
Great work , nice clear and precise.
Thank you so so so much for posting this. It just helped us out tremendously. Our truck will actually go now🤗😁😊
Always great videos. You have any Lincoln Navigator videos?
I have a few on the air ride yes.
Should you do this on an empty tank or doesn't matter?
It does not matter.

I have 2003 also . do you know where to get brake lines so I can replace them at the rear along the frame right beside the fuel tank I have a leak
Excellent video.
Is that the stock filter because iv never changed mine but it wasnt black it looked like the one from the store?
How do you know when its time to change the filter??
My shop told me the 03 Expy did not have an external Fuel Filter. It would be integrated with the Fuel Pump inside the Fuel Tank.
Mine is an early production. Could they have changed this mid production?
+W Rodie Ford did not use internal permanent fuel filters in any of it's vehicles until 2009 or so. Maybe they just couldn't find it?
Also wanted to ask how does the gt500 2008-2012 return fuel to the tank?
I have been looking for a video but can't find one I trust for a strut replacement for a 03 expedition 4x4.
Do you have a video on how to replace fuel injectors?
do you have any videos on doing a timing chain set on the 4.0l sohc in the rangers? Mine is 4x4.
Does the gas have to be empty?
Im having a leak that looks to be coming from the top of the tank after i had a front tire pop on the freeway, im thinking i might have moved something when removing the spare tire underneath, do you have any idea what could it be? Its an 03 expo 4.6 motor thanks
Why not remove the feed from the pump first so you can see what comes out of the filter as it back washes?
No need
Where can I get a replacement cover for the fuel filter ?
You the fucking man bro!
Thank you! Saved me some money!
why did u changed? my truck turns on n off right after should I changed it?
What do I do if a white and blue o ring come off with fhe filter? I have an 08 5.4 f250 that has 1 of these clips on each end and the 2 pieces came off on both ends and now wont clip back in
What were the symptoms of the truck
Is it true that the new expedition (2011) doesn't have one , or irreplaceable ??
+iDrGhouth Yes starting at about 2009 Ford transferred over to in tank permanent filters on their line up.
when did you start the dodge channel?? its new but the videos say they were uploaded months ago
+phil holbrook I started that channel in January 2015 actually.
+FordTechMakuloco Awesome, thank u
Good video it helped alot
I have a question man what I need to do before to start the car
Huge thanks man
is it the same for an excursion
2004
What kind of camera did you use to record this?
can you tell me what engine oil to use on a land rover freelander v6 2.5 2001 I dont have the manual and the cap does not say any other tips on this mini suv
about 2003 expedition grinding noise when starting. possible problems and how fix it
Didn’t they come out with that body style in the 2002 model year?
Built and sold as early as sept 2002 but no this is a 2003 model year vehicle.
FordTechMakuloco so it would be sold as a 2003 model?
FordTechMakuloco I’m working on my mother’s 2003 4.6 expedition right now. It has an intermittent misfire that is making me crazy. It has new spark plugs about 20K ago. Very descriptive video. Thank you!!!!!
I noticed the same, pushed the pin and nothibg happened
All three lines on my filter started leaking after owning my expedition for two years, could a faulty fuel pressure regulator cause this to happen?
I wish my explorer was that easy
Thanks again,
well done!!!! 5 thumbs up!!!!!!
It sucked!
Man, i thought burning my armpits was bad....
I think my 02 S10 regualator is part of the fuel pump unit too
Thank you
Tysm, great video??👍
Anyone know if this drains all the gass out the tank??
?Does that fit my 2005 Expedition
Did this today easy as 1 2
Good info!
Do one on a Mustang GT and Mustang!
good video but I wish you would on a 2007 Ford Expedition
I changed the oil filter Lincoln navigator 2008 it didn't leak gas. It leaks gas on the fuel pump
Anyone have any idea what the part number is for the plastic cover? Just got under the car and saw it was missing.
Jordan Azpeitia maybe you can find one at used/recycled parts location.
I know that this will be an odd request but I would like to see some 2001 Ford F-150 7700 series CNG dedicated repair videos. 😀
I'm really having a problem finding the fuel filter on a 2009 expedition
Thank you took less than 10 mins
it was great
شكرا بلانجليزي❤
Great video What about my Mountaineer!! lol
Instead of releasing pressure from the engine, why not just open the cap on the gas filler tube? since the line is contiguous it should depressurize -- the same amount of fuel coming from the engine side draining would be the same. there is no back pressure valve to stop fuel in the line, is there?
The mechanical returnless systems like this use a pressure relief valve inside the tank independent of the tank pressure.
Dang, I wish they had that kind of hose attachments on my 97 F150 and the way it it clamps to the frame... The F150 sucked!
Where really is ' I just tray to find when I whatch the video
If it's rusted, take it.into the shop
