- Description: In this video I will show you how I replaced the fuel filter on my 2004 Ford Expedition 4.6L. I know this may not be the best way or the way a pro may do it, but it is the way I do it.
Thanks for the video. Very easy to follow. My Expedition had stalled while driving and would not restart. dealer was ready to install new fuel pump, major repair. Spent $24 on a new fuel filter and now it runs great. Saved a lot.
Thank you for a great how-to video. Extremely helpful, very straight forward and love the fact your son is your little helper, I have one too.
Thanks for the great video. Straight, simple, and to the point. Awesome that your son was helping too.
Nice video. Straight to the point clear and positive attitude. Great job and loved the little buddy help 👍
I love it when you can save money and avoid inflated dealership cost.
Thankyou - I just changed the fuel filter on my wife's 2004 Expedition for the first time with 197,000 miles in the 10 years we have owned it. Very few maintenance problems over the years. Mainly engine oil and transmission fluid changes with new filters and tires. Only spent $21 on Wix fuel filter.
Thank you for your straightforward and insightful video on this topic. I appreciate you taking the time to help me save time and money by completing this task myself. Peace.
Straight forward video and you've got great little helper there.
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Edward gracias por tu vídeo mañana voy a cambiar el filtro de gasolina recibí mucha ayuda seguiré los pasos que hiciste asta luego adios
Ten minute fix with only watching the video once. you have the knowledge. next video I'd like to see adjustment of the E brake drum pads I know how but I don't look good on camera
Very easy to do following your video! Thanks!

Thank you so much this video was very helpful
thank you very much helpful info, I hope my 2005 expy is the same.
Thanks for the info, It really helped
Right on man you help me a lot thank you
U should leave the cover off the filter b4 u turn the key to on 3 times so u can easily check for O Ring leaks at the filter also
Edward this is a great video and I have looked all over for this filter and never found it so for at least 3 to 5 years I have never changed it. A few months ago my suv lost power getting no fuel on the Hwy so I pull off to the side and about 10 minutes it crunk back up and now a few months later yesterday it wouldn't stay running. After watching your video today it took about 3 sec to locate it and about 5 to 10 mins to replace it. It's taking time trying to prime it and I removed the lines and find no fuel in lines. Should i continue to ture on and off until fuel pumps through?
I thank you sir was very helpful !!!
I did it .. thank you very much :)
ill be trying it tomorrow
does it matter if there is a full tank of gas?
Did U not purge the system first under the hood, using the Schrader Valve? Or did u just not show us that step?
I did not.
Thank you for all the info. Very helpful
Is a fuel flush the same as replacing the filter? Cause a mechanic told me I need a fuel flush to get more get up and go?
+klynn newton it is not the same. I would not replace the fuel filter until after you have a fuel flush as a flush can potentially free debris into the system and damage your injectors. The fuel filter will catch some of this potential debris. I have not heard of anyone getting more "get up and go" from doing a fuel flush. I would try just replacing the fuel filter, air filter, and cleaning the mass air flow sensor. All of these are easy do it yourself projects that you can find help with on you tube. Also, all of these are fairly inexpensive to do yourself.
I put gas this morning in my suv. Runn8ng fine for 10 mins. I stop in a red light and when i press gas to go. My suv started like running slow. Like it lost power. Could the fuel filter be bad ?
I don't think so. Hard to say based on your description. Restricted fuel will cause the vehicle to sputter and stall. Running slow after a stop sounds more like air flow issues. Just a guess
Is there anything I need to do under the hood before I change the filter?
Could this be the reason my car isn’t accepting gas at the pump?
Doubtful.
There is nothing to do under the hood.
My ex pour a half cup of sugar in my tank I’ve been driving it for two months I used b12 but it won’t take gas at the pump but it will if I do it manually, any suggestions? Thanks
You may have to pull the pump. Sounds like the sugar is blocking it
When you disconnect the feed from the tank do you have to pinch the line so all your fuel doesn't spill out or do these clips somehow stop the flow? Thanks
Only a small amount of fuel come out. With the vehicle off the the fuel pump is not pumping fuel out. There will be some fuel present though.
So to get old "bad gas" out I would need to unhook it there and turn the key to pump all of the bad gas out?
Hi, the mechanic told me that my 2003 ford expedition Eddie Bauer didn't have a fuel filter, is that true that some came with the filter and some SUVs didn't not. Thank you
+Sergio Rodriguez I would have to research this, but I guess it is possible. I will answer as soon as I have a definitive answer.
hey I got a leak from mine , an 04 do you think something is loose or do I just need to change the filter?
odds are it is just a loose connection
Thank you
Will it be the same on a 2005 Expedition with 5.4L engine?
not sure but I think so
+Edward Neely It wasn't quite the same, but you still helped me out. Thanks. Mine has different blue connectors on the filter/hoses. Only 1 in/1 out too.
How important is that cover
It's not the end of the world if it's not on there. It doesn't take much to keep it on. As you can see in my video it was in pretty sad shape when I gor the truck. Believe it or not that cover stayed in place even through the winters snow storms.
Are the fuel lines pressurized?
they can be. If you want to be safe you can pull the fuse for the fuel pump and then start the vehicle and let it runs till it stalls out. Now you can follow the instructions on the video. Once you replace the fuel filter reinstall the fuse for the fuel pump. Turn the key to the on position then off again and then back to the on position. You will hear the fuel pump run both times. This should recharge the lines. Now start the vehicle and enjoy.
+Edward Neely Thats what I figured. I have an 2003 XLT. Theres no diff between the 03 and 04 so wheres the fuel pump fuse? I haven't looked for it yet.
Could be in your cabin fuse housing or under the hood in the fuse housing there on my truck it was under the hood.
+Edward Neely Thanks dude.
In the engine compartment, there is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail. Just like a bicycle valve unscrew the cap and press on the pin inside till the pressure is relieved.
How many miles did you change it at?
Alaskan999 ` I change them about every ten thousand miles
Why are you changing it?
It is a maintenance item recommend by different manufacturers at different intervals. I had not changed it since I owned the truck, (about a year) when I made this video. The truck was running a little rough and felt sluggish. After changing the fuel filter it got much better. My guess is that the filter was becoming clogged, and not allowing proper fuel flow.
Why would it stall?
I never said it would stall. What exactly is your question?
I can't find it on my Ford explorer where is it I can't find
It's almost impossible to put the plastic cover back on😂😂😂?😅😅😅😅
I have a 2005 Ford Expedition Limited and 1 is blue and one isn’t I only have 2 by the way
Wish I would have fully watched the video first, we ended up breaking the clips with a screwdriver to get them out because new filter came with clips. AllData didn't even say anything about the clips being pinch clips. Ugh, took forever!
Those little blue tabs will not come off for the life of me
They do not always come all the way off.
he broke the right side of the cover lol
Couldn't get the damn clips off
I couldn't get the fuel filter cover back on he used the screwdriver at the end😢😢😢
does it matter if there is a full tank of gas?
killanige49 my tank was about half full when I changed it
