Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.
This has GOT to be one of the top 3 live performances of any song, across any genre, of all time. Imagine: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones AND John Bonham, all at the absolute height of their powers. What a piece of history

Many metal guitarist and drummers call themselves skilled but they mistake being skilled with playing fast. This, is being skilled, playing and improvising without a single flaw and sounding everytime better than before. The sound of John and Jimmy is so smooth it's a pleasure to hear for anyone.
A few guys look at music as sport competition and for them it is all about precision and speed not so much about taste.

@@alexp362 Not trying to start a, uh... urinating contest, or anything. But as much as I like Led Zeppelin and respect John Bonham's skill, he was not really the greatest, in my opinion. And I'm not talking about not being the fastest, as that's an entirely different discussion. Bonham could get rather sloppy, like his drum fills near the end of this performance, where he just kind of indiscriminately flails away and gets out of time with the song.
There are drummers with better technique, equally great stylistically, if not better, and, yes, also faster. I know this sounds like I'm poo pooing Bonham but, I assure, I'm not. It's just that Bonham seems to have this almost martyr-like status that shields him from being honestly and unbiasedly critiqued in the "best ever" discussion. In my opinion, Plant and Page have better arguments in their respective skills to make a claim for best ever.

Where has this video been I have 4 other version but this is by far the best. Kashmir is an epiphany for the greatest band of all times. A collective whole producing a driving rythm and melody that will haunt us all forever. Plant's vocal are beyond description. He takes you to Kashmir. The lyrics are poetic and mystical. This is the best performance I've ever seen. I keep playing over and over again Thank you Atlantic videos!

Amazing, powerful, and downright hypnotic. I love this performance. Every time I see a live version of one of Led Zeppelin’s songs, it’s like listening to brand new music. Their improvising and feeding off of each other and the crowds, really made their live shows so fantastic. I’m so happy I get to experience this one of a kind band through recordings. Long live Zep!

there's something so moving about this live song. Here they are after 10 years together, flawlessly what might be the definitive Zep masterpiece. A year later John Bonham died and the Zeppelin crashed for good. Best band of all time

For parts of this concert they were locked in nearly perfect. I saw this at a page plant concert they had a memorabilia trailer and I stayed in their for an hour watching this over and over. I became obsessed with Knebworth 1979. I’ve collected programs unused tickets t shirt bootleg dvd ‘s and cd’s and posters.’ When the 2003 DVD came out I watched it everyday for a year on the morning getting ready for work

The British people do not make a bunch of noise while the songs are being played. It's in their nature to hold the applause until the end of the songs.
They are extremely polite and it truly shows here.
But when the applause comes - watch out! They do not hold back at all. 👍
In the 70's, many in the crowds were on ludes/wacky tobaccy, just like you've said lol...high as kites and quietly enjoying the trip.
Many others were hypnotized by what they were witnessing. I've never been to a Zep show, but after 40 yrs of being a fan, I have always remembered the comments and reviews from people who've actually seen them live.
It does not get any better than this.
