  • Hello everyone, Jeremy here with AltRider in Seattle, WA. We’re excited to present the AltRider crash bars for the new BMW R 1250 GS. We put in the time when it came to designing the crash bars and skid plate for the R 1250 GS. www.altrider.com/altrider-cras... We did actual real off-road testing, we listened to the industry and our customers, and we’ve put in the work to engineer these bars to the highest standards with our industry leading 1.25-inch diameter stainless steel tubes. Our steel stock is 2x stronger than other 1-inch diameter bars while only weighing 20% more.
    We took the time to manufacture a system that not only utilizes four attachment points to the frame (not the engine which can lead to a catastrophic break down when damaged) but we’ve also included an m12 through-bolt that ties the entire system together through the center of the bike. We even go as far as including the hard to find T50 and T55 torques bits as well as anti-seize. Our instructions are straightforward and easy to read.
    We’re focused on protecting your motorcycle from costly damages, as well as making sure your adventure doesn’t have to stop due to broken parts. Don’t settle for a system comprised of extra long bolts, plastic spacers, and “crushable brackets.” When you're choosing bike protection, choose a brand that’s designed by real riders and world-class engineers, with riders and mechanics in mind.
    As a customer of AltRider your opinion matters and when the need for color matched bars came up we responded. Triple Black Grey, Hyper White, or Bold Blazing Red are a few options that look factory and perform better than what the factory offers. We could go on about all the attention to detail that we put into our products and passion that we have for adventure motorcycling but rather than read it. I suggest you check out our latest video on our R 1250 GS crash bars and see for yourself.

    Seems an obvious choice vs. the alternatives. Good job AltRider! Please see to it that with the next crash video the bike actually roles...as to illustrate the strength of both sides of the crash bars.

    I have your lower bars on my 2015 R1200GS. I purchased them based on inspection of a set and seeing the quality of the welds and joint profiles (fish-mouthing). I would encourage anyone considering getting a set of any manufacturers bars to take a close look at those two important indicators of quality. I have not seen abetter made set of crash bars. i would encourage you to investigate a skid-pan design which allows changing the oil filter without having to partially dismount or shift the pan.

      Donald, Thanks for the feedback. we try very hard to do things right, which is not easy from cost or engineering perspective. and even harder to explain the differences or why we made the decisions we have made.

    I am after crash bars for my new r1250gs and these look perfect. How much knee/shin space is reduced with these ? Im quite tall and occasional hit the cylinders currently with my leg and wondering if these would reduce the clearance to my leg even further. Any thoughts?

    • @vtv8man
      @vtv8man 4 года назад

      Lyndell Jensen - thankyou so much for the help and info. I actually saw a set locally in Australia yesterday on a bike and agree I would have an issue. The guy riding the r1250gs was about the same height and had the same issue.
      Fingers crossed AltRider come up with a tall person design option ... LOL ... as they are really awesome bars...

    Shame to sling so much mud at competitors. And there definitely isn't a lack of off road riding in Europe - we do ride, and we've got some glorious stuff. I've taken my Alt Rider protected GS on some awesome adventures.

      Hey Wil, we are really trying to educate riders about the design process, materials, and processes that work. but i see your point. And yes Europe has lots of amazing Adventures. We we mainly referencing Germany, based on the population density and current laws, at best you can ride on dirt logging roads in the north.

    Hey Jeremy, I've been researching for a second set of crash bars (bent the first one) and I have 2 concerns about your product. Can you clarify the lean angle versus without the crash bars? I called up but nobody was answering. It appears too close to the ground when the bike is going through the turn. The other concern is the right crash bar is too close to the knee. I'm about 5'8". Not sure why the bar isn't placed over inside rather than the outside of the oil filling cap. Hope you take this constructively

    • @AltRiderLLC
      @AltRiderLLC  4 года назад

      hello cassin,
      great questions. Regarding the lean angle we use the same lean angle of approach as we did on the 1200 which of course has thousands of bars in service and nearly as many now on the 1250. the bars angle immediately after leaving the flange providing significant ground clearance you'll feel your foot Peg moving before contact. But that's not the case in every possible environment meaning the road conditions are trail conditions are never consistent.. I'm not claiming our design is perfect. Though I do claim it's nearly impossible to design the perfect crashbar.
      Regarding the right crashbar it would be significantly more complicated requiring two to three more bends to go in front of the oil fill cap and still provide enough or the correct geometry to utilize the upper frame mount. This is again is the similar routing as on the r 1200 design. In addition it's very close to the oil fill cap. from our experience we felt like the right decision versus adding complexity/ cost as well as the design would look a bit goofy as well.
      Feel free to call into the shop I should be available most of the day while I'll be in the Prototype shop Lyndale could grab me and we can talk

      @@AltRiderLLC I called up and spoke to a gentleman yesterday. We had one clarification of the skid plate. In stock form, the space between the drain bolt and the skid plate is a little over 1/2 an inch. So not sure how much ground clearance I'm gaining with the integrated skid plate. Fyi - I've placed the order. Appreciate your response.

      Last email I received said late July. Hopefully that info is correct but I’m not holding my breath since I was told two other dates prior to this last one.

    • @GoonDick
      @GoonDick 5 лет назад

      I heard they ran into some production issues. That’s why the date has been pushed out. With the brand new engine, the bars have to be completely redesigned. They aren’t the only company who has had to push out their estimate. Machine Art Moto also is smoothing out the final design and Fitment with their head covers.
      I know it’s hard being patient. I placed a pre-order in January. But they will be well worth it when they get here. They want the bars to meet their standards and if you own any other Altrider parts, you know that they don’t throw something together to turn a profit. It’s something that’s engineered with a purpose.

      That’s good to hear. I ordered mine through my dealership and have not heard anything. I’ll check with them to see if they are starting to get them yet.

      Picked mine up on Tuesday from the dealership. They had all the required parts but instructions were incorrect and hubby had to call Altrider to get correction instructions. They look great and are really beefy. I am glad I waited now.
