    If you want to get rid of the flickering light issue when filming, set your camera to the other Hz rate. If it's at 50, set it to 60. Or the other way around.
    That should reduce or remove the issue completely.

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures

      Thanks for the suggestion. I shoot in 30 FPS, with the shutter speed set to Auto, so that would be somewhere between 1/30 to 1/480. If I have it at a fixed shutter speed (I think the rule of the thumb is double the speed of the shutter to give a more cinematic motion blur) I would need to compensate with ND filters, and I can't replace ND filters every time the light changes (continuously riding in and out of forest, mountains, and open areas). I know the ISO can compensate to a degree. But you are right in what you say. Besides avoiding flickering I also miss the motion blur. Both things would add to the quality, I'm sure. But not a particular good photographer, so I am relying on the cameras' auto setting. The drone shoots, however, I do control those settings manually. But for that, I feel I can better anticipate the light. Thanks for watching.

    • @arnandegans

      @@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures Yes, thats fine. but what I mean is the PAL/NTSC setting. That's a tv standard (oldschool TV). NTSC is the USA standard, but uses a 50hz 'refresh rate' where PAL is the EU standard that uses 60Hz, which matches our lights (European electric stuff works on 60Hz). So you don't see the flickering/blinking effect because it matches.
      Which means if you don't want blinky traffic lights, or as you can see in this video, your headlight and garage lights - You may want to change that setting and see if that works better.

      Happy to help :-) I knew how it worked before getting them, just didn't know I had to struggle so much. I had to wiggle the bags to the point where the tilt sensor activated the alarm. Unless I'm camping (where I am super close to the bike), I take the bags off overnight. I have been told that you can get the Mosko Moto without their plates and then get the Akalaka mounting system. The bags themselves are pretty awesome.

    I also love your videos and followed them closely, I'm on my 3rd GSA and love the bike to pieces. Very interesting review of the softbags, I have the original hard ones and they are ok except the toplocks that I have to drill and put through bolts to get it steady with full equipment. So looking forward to follow your Murmansktrip, was doing Northcape this summer so probably same roads up at least.

    Thanks for sharing, it just amazes me what a rabbit hole the GS can end up being... money pit. I had been contemplating it as a replacement for my 1600GT instead of an RT.. but, ouch..

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
      @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures  4 года назад +1

      I think the GS is a fantastic bike. I can’t say if you’d like it over the GT or RT, but all bikes can be rabbit holes, if you let them. Had I known back then what I know now, I would have chosen another solution on luggage. Remember, I wanted soft luggage as hard luggage isn’t as good off road as I do fall from time to time. The mosko moto panniers are great, but I’m pretty sure I would have been happy with other luggage systems, such as Lone Rider, Giant Loop, or Bumot. It also depends what kind of roads you ride, if you’re riding 2-up, and what comfort is to you, etc. Thanks for watching. 😊

    Hi. I was expecting to hear about the bike but it turned out to be more about accessories. Anyway, thanks again. By the way, after riding several bikes in the last 15 years, I finally got my 2015 r1200gs: the seat is top comfy for me. I can ride for 200 km straight for the first time without any pain or sour down there 🤣

      I'm not sure I'm qualified to do a review. My intention is just to show what works for me and what doesn't travelling the way I do. I'm hoping that can help and inspire a little. I did a 3 month video going through some of the changes I made, and didn't want to repeat myself, so you're right, most of it is about the soft luggage.
      Thanks a lot for your feedback. It is much appreciated. And check out the travel videos as well (e.g. the Moldova 2019 trip). Thanks for watching :-)

    Hi, after completing so many miles on your bike, is there a "ticking" noise coming from the left hand (or right hand) side of the cylinder head when the bike is idling and when up-to temperature. I'm sure I have heared it on some of your videos. This seems to be a developing problem with the new 1250 engines, however the reply from BMW has been extreme, from it's a completly normal noise, new cylinder heads to new engines which go-on to tick again. Would love to know if you have had any reliability issues with your bike. Much aprreciated. Thank you.

      I have not noticed any sounds that wasn’t on my old model. But that said, I’m not a mechanic. One thing I did notice, when riding uphill at lower rpms (2500-ish) it occasionally sounded like there was a rock or something rattling on the bash plate. As soon as I got to higher rpm it went away. I talked to the dealer about it, but they couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary, so I just let it be. That is 10,000 km ago. Thanks for watching 😊

    Have you noticed a difference in the amount you can carry with the soft panniers vs the hard? Do you think you still carry the same amount?

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
      @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures  2 года назад

      With the duffel bag, yes. The duffel bag has a pocket for the tent poles, which won’t fit in the hard pannier. I put clothes and stuff in the left and camping gear, parts and tools on the right. Camera and stuff in the duffel bag, along with food and other things I don’t want crushed when I lay the bike down. still working on the packing strategy though.

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
      @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures  2 года назад

      I bought it directly from the manufacturer (a bmw dealer). It got quite expensive as I got an extra bill from the customs. If you don’t already have the soft bags, consider EU options (assuming you’re in the EU), like bumot.eu, but if you already have the Atacama bags, let me know, I will look up the site for you.

      @@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures Hello, thank you very much for the information. Unfortunately, apart from the Atacama / Akalaka system, there are hardly any alternatives to attaching it to the original carrier with the option to lock. I have already got in touch with the manufacturer (www.ebay.com/itm/255073121379), unfortunately the total price is too high for me due to the shipping and the customs fees that may be incurred, as you mentioned. Thanks for naming the alternatives!

      They show that they have been used, but not as much as I had feared, and not more than my alu panniers I had on my previous bike. I had a fall (on soft surface) where the right pannier got bended, but no scratches that show. The content gets hotter in sunlight, so snacks, food and water if you carry that is subject to the heat. Hi there,
    me wife have been watching your videos and we been enjoying. We were wondering after length of time you had your new bmw 1250 , would you say , has it been worth the money your new bike. Maybe thinking about getting one in the future. 🇬🇧 Gateshead ,

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
      @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures  4 года назад +1

      That is a good question. I guess it depends what you are coming from and how you want to ride. The GS is a great touring bike, but if you strictly stay on good asphalt, other options may be more comfortable. The 1250 has plenty of power to ride 2-up fully loaded. I like to ride small roads that often are gravel and they are often bumpy, and this work well with the GS. It is, however, too heavy for technical offroad riden (at least at my skill level). I recently went on a trip to Morocco and while the GS could be ridden in some of those places, I wouldn’t as I’d spend my energy worrying about falling (and breaking expensive BMW parts). If you look at my Moldova trip on YT that is probably the majority of my trips (mostly asphalt, but also bumpy gravel, and a little dirt), whereas the Murmansk trip (Norway part) was pretty much smooth asphalt. I love my GSA, snd the GSA before it. It handles way better than its weight indicates. Thanks for watching 😊

    • @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
      @BackroadMotorcycleAdventures  4 года назад +1

      Thank you. I like the Mosko Moto / Atacama better than the hard panniers, but it turned to be an expensive solution for me; a lot due to overseas shipping, and toll fees and taxes. I’m not a fan of how the Mosko moto bags are mounted on the standard rack, and the sad reality is that you need to take the bags with you unless you want them to be stolen if you park in a city. If you always camp and never go to cities, it is probably not an issue. So my need to take them on and off became an issue as they wont easily come off when there’s dirt and dust and water (which is hard to avoid next to the rear wheel). If you’re in the states or in that part of the world, it may be a lot cheaper for you. If you’re in Europe, you may find the bumot system a better option. bumot.eu Thanks for watching 😊

      700 USD, they ship it to Europe for another 100. Then I had to pay import VAT and customs fee (approx €210 for SE), so this turned out to be a very expensive deal. So if you, or a friend, is planning a trip to the US, have it shipped to the hotel, bring it back yourself, and save the 100 USD and import VAT/fees if the value is below the limit - shipping and fees would almost have paid a round trip ticket! I should have done that, had I used my brain a little. But hey, live and learn, right? ;-) Thanks for watching.

      frankB funke Good question! They worked very well on the surfaces I rode, even wet. But they are very noisy (at 100-130 km/h), particularly the rear as it squares off. I’m not sure it will be my next tires though, as I am thinking going back to the good old combo with TKC80 on the front and Heidenau K60 on the rear. I like the TKC80’s grip on the front and don’t need to ride fast in wet corners. And the combo is quiet, gives good mileage, and confidence on loose surface. That is my two cents. Eurico Costa The Mosko Moto bags are expensive. But they are very good quality with a lot of great features. But you are right, you can get solutions that are cheaper. Strap on Giant Loops, etc. They work great, but they don’t come with the convenience of a locking system that use your BMW key. The Akalaka system is not needed. The Mosko Moto come with the big vinyl plates. They work. They just don’t work well for me as I want to bring the bags with me when I’m not camping. And it’s also - I admit - about the looks when not having the bags mounted. Those plates do nothing for the looks. And convenience of seamlessly swapping between hard and soft panniers. The more expensive gear for the bike offer better functionality and/or quality. If that added func/quality doesn’t give you any value, you will definitely feel ripped off. I have that with seats. There’s no way I’ll pay $1000 for a heated Sargent seat when I’m happy with a $60 cool cover - as it doesn’t personally do anything for me. I’m not saying you’re wrong, by any means. Heck, I just rode a week on a Honda 250 and had a great time. And for a lot less money. Just another sort of great than on my GSA. I’m just saying there are lots of shades of grays. Thanks for your comment - I do appreciate it. And thanks for watching :-)
