Bruce the ordinary man or woman could not afford one of these motorcycles tyres, fuel, servicing and so on. This is a tool for your work most of us have ordinary jobs and cannot afford to travel around the world. Especially when they do not get handouts from sponsors or patrons. Um !!!!!!!!!! Colin.
Rubbish - I AM an ordinary man, I buy my bike on PCP as that’s the only way I can afford them. I paid for my RTW trip by working 7 days a week for over 3 years, sold everything I owned, remortgaged, and credit carded myself to the hilt with debt. Handouts… get a grip
I’m an ordinary man, I’ve had to work bloody hard and save to own my GS. I know smokers who plead poverty and spend more on fags than it costs me to own my bike.
Unbelievable!what a thankless task editing hours of film and loading it up.everthing you say on record can be open to interpretation good and bad.i appreciate your efforts bruce.
So, bike reviews should only consist of what you can afford? GS is bestselling large bike in UK so clearly a few people can afford them even if not new. A good review to inform riders thinking of buying an older GS what might be in store for them cost wise.
And thats why i do my own service, a week ago i got a tekken 300, and took it offroad im loving it, i put 400km in 3 days, gs is my dream one im saving up for it
I just bought my first 1250GS, and I love it, all those story’s about it being the best and easy to ride anywhere are so true! For me (personal taste) nothing comes close in rugged adventure looks, not even the new 1300. Thanks Bruce for the great 50k review and previous vids which helped me make my mind up to get one.
Just recently bought an 18 plate R1200GS with the TFT trading in my F900xr. Decision was easy thanks to fine motovloggers such as yourself, Baron and Missenden. Best decision I ever made. What a bike! Thanks Bruce.
Ah blimey, that was YOU Curno! Mate if I’d realised it was you from the Clan I’d have thanked you personally for all the awesome support over the years! Was good to chat with you anyway bud, cheers for saying hello 👍
Hi Bruce, like you I'm on my third GS, current on being 2021 1250 ADV, and riding since 1973 with a small break when the children were young. I have had a multitude of bikes, and enjoyed them all, two wheels=fun. But the GS's are the Swiss army knives of the biking world, and at 66 years old I try to keep fit so I can carry on with the pleasure of discovering pastures new. Thanks for the entertainment Bruce.
I bought a 2020 GSA TE back in March and I have to say I absolutely love it. Being of tall stature standing at 6”7” it carries my tall frame with ease. An amazing bike with all the bells and whistles, and offering sublime riding comfort.
I had an extended test ride on a new 1250 a couple of months back, as great as it was in so many ways, I just couldn't get comfortable on it. As mad as it might sound, I was very happy to get back on my Tenere 700.
Brilliant review Bruce. I've only got 3000miles on mine at the moment but I agree about the comfort. Much more comfortable riding position than my old 2012 R1200RT. No more hip cramp. My longest ride so far was Shropshire to Edinburgh an back, 291 miles each way. She absolutely sailed through it and never missed a beat. I also think it has a 'presence' on the road that gives you confidence that you'll be seen. Keep up the good work.
Currently on my 3rd GSA and unless I am surprised by BMW by a 1300 Adventure I think I will be sticking to my new 2024 1250 GSA...love the look at does everything I could want. Will likely sell the Harley and keep the GSA if I drop to having only one bike.
Cheers Bruce, after 50,000 mls you’ve got the credibility to sum up this amazing bike. I agree with everything you say. Whilst the new R1300GS is going to be fab that doesn’t mean that the ‘old’ bike isn’t. I was out on my 2021 R1250GS yesterday in the pouring rain going to work and thinking just how much I love it!
When you pulled into the dealership I thought, oh no, this feels sad, like it might be the last time you ride that bike... and it was! Looking forward to hearing what you think of the 1300 as everyone else is! Great video as always!
Just the best bike i ever owned my 2020 gsa! Waiting for my 24 gsa triple black, gold rims ,alutank, all bells and whistles! My wife love it too! Honda crosstourer 17were a top heavy beast with uncomfortable seat, thirsty but the v4 was nice! You get what you pay for with a gs!
Good work Bruce, a very informative 50K review vid! Most folks out there only review their own bike when it is brand spankers. I really really like the luggage capacity that can be mounted without any impact on performance.
Informative and honest vlog Bruce, if I was touring from one end of Europe to the other then hands down I would choose the GS it is a great bike. But to cover all aspects (weekends, work, the odd tour) I chose the Multistrada V4 (after test riding the GS, Ducati, and KTM) because it puts a big smile on my face.
Great summary, Bruce. I rode the triple black 1300 GS yesterday and I'm starting to see why you enjoy and value the tractor. Good luck with your new ride BTW and keep living your life
Great review Bruce. I have been looking at something a little smaller and took the F750GS out for a test ride. Loved it. Was so smooth, comfortable, and exactly what I would like to ride. Got a few others to test, but think the GS looks better at the moment.
I bought a new 1250 GS TE at the end of 2021. I didn't really do enough research before I purchased but it proved to be £18k well spent. I have to say it is the best all round bike I've owned in over 50 years of two wheeled life. I too ride all year round (I don't actually own a car) in all weathers and the bike (with the help of plenty of GT85!) is holding up well. When people complain about cost of ownership I say 'don't buy a premium brand and expect cheap'. As you say, servicing is not a massive cost plus I'm quite happy with my recently fitted £46 Chinese top box! Keep up the good work.
Hi Bruce Loved the review and took the plunge in August. Bought a 2020 Rallye and went to Scotland two weeks later. Love the ride and comfort, just getting used to being on tiptoes at the lights 🤣 Great bikes and worthy of the title best bike 👍👍👍
Great vid Bruce - beautifully written and edited. I agree with all you say with the exception of the point re dealerships. I’ve not found BMW service any better or worse than say Triumph, Honda or Ducati dealers - I think it entirely depends on the staff at the dealership you deal with….regardless of the manufacturers badge on the wall. I’ve certainly not experienced the amazing BMW service people refer too….
Cheers mate, not often these days that I get to sit down and actually plan a vid and it’s shots - SO much easier and quicker to do than the tour/vlog stuff! Interesting to hear that Andy, I’ve had less than satisfactory service from BMW dealerships too - so I just go elsewhere and on the whole, the customer service across the majority of BMW dealerships I’ve tried (and I’ve been to quite a few now across the UK), has been brilliant. Triumph - a boy used one for service when I bought the first 1200 Explorer and it was garbage. Suzuki - again depended where I went, but these were almost always multi-franchise dealerships, and I found the best service was when I went to an independent mechanic. If I was to own my GS outright and it was now outside its warranty, then I’d 100% use an independent mechanic👍
LOL I was in Group 1 last Saturday for the manifold recall on my 1250 Bruce and saw your name on this bike, so the secret was out!!!!; look forward to the reveal!! A great review and agree, the GS is a mighty good package having owned bot the 1200 and 1250 GSA Adventure Rallye.
Great review, 50000 miles!! Awesome. I own an RT and had it for years, commuting every day in all weather, it’s a 2015 model but can’t part with it. Ordered myself a Ducati Pikes Peak, which is due in March, will be keeping the RT though. BMW customer service in Glasgow has been top notch, and I don’t think the servicing costs have been too bad, I too just had a big service with valves done and it was around the 400 mark. Had a 2023 GS adventure for a courtesy bike, it was amazing, but I had already ordered my Ducati and I think that’s a very special bike, especially with all the add-ons I’ve got going on it. Was going to wait and see what the 1300GS has to offer, but I prefer the look of your model to the new one. Anyway, great vid as always, love the content. Have a great day!!
My experience much the same as yours. I've a Sept 2019 bike, with 52,500 miles. Not missed a beat. Only failure was the wiz wheel (not covered on warranty as failure after 3rd year). Been to Spain, France, Norway, Scotland. The old girl rattles a bit but still feels like new. Would I buy another, yup without doubt. Further I'm 67years of age and I don't find the bike heavy or difficult to manoeuvre.
Having switched from a Multi V4S to a GSA, I can 100% agree on ownership experience being related to your dealer. I had to drive 100 miles away (60-70 miles further than necessary) to get a dealership worth dealing with. That’s not the only reason I switched but it was definitely a factor.
Didn't have a good time with my 2019 1250, battery issues etc although as you say great service. I Now have a 2022 multistrada V4S and I'm 61 , it is the best bike I've ever ridden. It just feels quality and makes me smile every day.
Good honest review, Not sure how many people know the word umpteen tho 😂😂😂. I love the gs for everything, Touring, thrashing, off-road etc does them all fairly well. Yes it’s not the fastest (not designed to be) , Not the prettiest, Not the best sounding engine but overall just better than the rest. 50k miles is a great milestone hope you have a puckle more miles on the old girl 👌
I sold two of my Harleys and bought a 2023 1250GS Adventure. I got it 5 months ago and have 7,400 miles on it so far. I absolutely love this bike. Taking it to Deadhorse, Alaska next year, from So. California.
22k on my 20month old rallye. Comfortable, quick enough on real roads to embarrass plenty of sportbike riders. Owned S1r, Multistrada, 1290gt, Monster 1200r, the list goes on. Only bike I keep coming back too? The GS. Just fit good quality road tyres and go.
Took a look at the new 1300 and promptly bought a 2023 R 1250 GS, 2 weeks ago. Sitting in a rocking chair atop a Tennessee Mountain, on a mini vacation. Got about 1200 miles so far. This bike is everything people say it is. I could not be happier with my choice. Wished I did this sooner.
I bought my December 2020 1250gs new and she’s just turned 49,000 miles this week. She’s ridden in all weather, all year round. I’ve had two indicators replaced and the headers replaced as the exhaust flapper valve failed under warranty. Other than that its been faultless. Every time I start her up I smile and will again in the morning.
Great review Bruce , you have fair put the gs through its paces over the years and it's handled them well .👍 and sounds like you really like it as well ., good going .👍
Along with the backlit switch gear, I think it’s also kinda lame that a heated seat isn’t standard on the 1300. But I am starting to come around to the 1300, it’s really growing on me. Great video, Bruce!
Ohhhh what can I say? What’s under that blanket big guy? Fantastic review, you got some fantastic memories on that bike. Here’s to your next adventure! 👍🏍️💨
Best bike I ever owned. Definitely the cheapest to service if you use Bahnstormer Alton. My first GSA was a 2016 and I clocked nearly 48k miles. My current GSA is a 2020 and I only clocked 16k miles because I don't do many miles nowadays.
I must agree with you about Brighton, excellent service each time I went there. KTM rider now and have deal with P & H. My bike came with a motion sensor linked to a remote alarm. I had P and H install track mode, a week later I went to diconnect the sensor as it was draining the battery but it had been removed already
Nice, succinct review Bruce! I'm thinking of chopping in my 1250RT for a used 1250GS, and this review is another tick in the 'pros' box. The RT is an excellent bike, but im looking for something a little more versatile now. By the way, i tend to refer to the GS as the panzer rather than the tractor! 😂
Went from a Africa Twin 1100 DCT to a R1250 GS TE. No regrets, but AT a fantastic bike. Did over 1300 mile round trip of Scotland fully loaded GS, the bike performed like a formula 1 tractor.
I had an air cooled 2012 GS triple black, sold it after two years and regretted selling it ever since, now I have a S1000R love this bike but still miss the GS 😢 great vid 👊
Wait…what!!! Are you gracing us with the new GS? The more I pop in my local dealership (BMW Bahnstormer) tyre kicking, the more I’m liking the new GS. It’s all those little details that float my boat! Cheers Bruce, loving the channel. 👍
Nice to hear from someone who has actually lived with and used the bike in all conditions, as opposed to those who THINK they know what they are talking about, or worse, the opinionated haters from other brands. Good job giving an experienced long term review 👍
Nice one Bruce . May 21 I eventually found myself in the position to buy a 1250 GS Triple Black. I have to say the bike has surprised me, Its a brilliant bike, Is it perfect, no, do i bloody love it , yes, well i did. Mine needed new engine cases for corrosion at 18 months old. Only issue ive had so far. I really look after my bikes so this was disappointing. Fair play to BMW, they fixed it under warrenty but sadly the bike wasnt right when i got it back. I think its sorted now but i think ive lost my confidence in it. Its 3 years old in May and out of warrenty. I planned to extend the warrenty and keep it i was so happy with it. I really dont know now. Gutted. (Paul Brown from the Clan)
October 21 TB for me and agree that it is a damn good all round bike. Likewise, though, disappointed to have the engine case corrosion at less than 2 years-I've still to raise with BMW but will shortly as it's due a service- as its a known issue and you'd have hoped they would have had a more robust finish in place after this time. Interested, obviously, in the 1300 but in no rush to change for now (and don't see anything else that takes my fancy)
I’ve not actually seen the 1300 in the metal yet. I keep hearing it’s more compact which for me maybe an issue for 2 up touring. 44 Teeth and others have said the finish on the engine is better so fingers crossed on that front. Considering having a look a closer look at the Tiger 1200 but if I’m honest I prefer the GS overall.
Absolute best bike in the world. My ‘21 R1250GS Adventure is superb in every way. For those of you who have not ridden one, but have heard how well-balanced and comfortable they are to ride, when you do you’ll notice it within the first mile.
I had my GS1250 for three years and did around 43k...I loved it and it never let me down. Saying that while on the France/Germany border, it got a puncture and when I took it to a German dealership they would/could not give me another either off a demo or from stores..and we tried three dealerships. It wasn't till we got into Italy I was able to pick up a new tyre at a local (not BMW) dealer.
i have a 2013 model, and covered circa 26K in the last 18 months on it. It's a superb Bike for all sorts of riding, and with aftermarket solutions, additions, trinkets etc etc means you can have one the way you want it - with minimal compromise.
What a great accolade, you can't get better than that for a real end of ownership review. Hope you have many happy, safe and memorable s-miles on the new one
Good review, on my first tractor and just past the 2 years old mark. Agree it's just a good all round bit of kit. Re backlit switches on new 1300 I've seen the comment elsewhere that they will come as part of an update next year but no more info than that.
Ive owned three Gs's and put over 50 k on all three, totally agree on the reasonable service costs and reliability, same goes for the R which I put forty thousand on! I think the modern BMW boxer engine is the best engine for general riding by quite some margin!
Great review. I have a 2019... I love it, but my off road is fire roads sort of thing. It's my long distance bike, but not as many miles as yours. New bike.... lol it's gotta be a 1300... that green and gold one looks pretty good to me.
Thanks Bruce, great video. I'm on my 2nd Boxer, love them. Have the 1250 too. Do all my servicing myself as mine has been acquiring 2nd hand and out of warranty.
Just to add my pennies worth … You hit on the one thing All of us look for in a bike that it feels and performs to what makes You smile 😊….You always have a huge smile on your face after a spirited set of the twistiest on your “Tractor” … What more could you ask of it 👏👌🥃🏴
thanks for this, i have this exact bike, same color n year, im here in california with and i just hit 36000 miles. i hope to sell it at end of 2024 and get the 1300 cc.
Hey up! Fair play Bruce, Nothing like an honest opinion and preview from someone who has actually used the bike for work and fun in all weathers for more than just a sunny Sunday afternoon, I take a new GS model out every time I get my 1200GS serviced and as much as I love the new models I just can't bring myself to sell or exchange my 2010 R1200GS TE simply because it does everything that the new models do, other than ecelaleration of course, I also have all of the settings you have on the handlebars including the old Nav 5 with no issues finding my destination unlike the Nav 6, I have to admit though if I had the spare cash I would purchase the new 1300GS, However, still couldn't part with my old R1200GS.
Nice high octane review Bruce. My VStrom 1000 is due it's 15K service and valve check. Quoted around £600 for that so the GS is a little cheaper. I'm surprised at that
Great honest review. Quality and build definitely there especially after 50k miles. I really do enjoy your videos. Please do plenty for us to watch this winter.😄💪🏍️
Hi Bruce. I’ve owned 2 - a 2012 which I still own cos I love it and a 2022 which I bought new after an inheritance. It is a fully spec’d Triple Black and is indeed a magnificent piece of kit. The fact the GS dominates the adventure bike market speaks for itself as it is typical German engineering - high quality, durable and a pleasure to ride for endless miles. I agree with most of your sentiments. However I’m not sure I’ll buy another one. Market dominance definitely underpins BMW thinking and I believe they think they can ‘take us for a ride’ (pun most definitely intended). As is the case with every make and model development is never ending and evolution is necessary to keep a brand alive. However I have 2 major issues with the GS - firstly with every new iteration those clever engineers modify the design to such an extent (or to a minor extent) that equipment is not transferable from one model to the next. Not all manufacturers do that and with many existing gear such as panniers and top box are transferable. For those of us committed to long distance riding in need of such equipment this becomes expensive; indeed an unjustifiable expense which I begrudge as I feel like I’m being taken for a fool. Secondly as you rightly say this is a technological marvel with gadgets galore assisting / supporting the ride(r). It is as you say a computer on 2 wheels. However again those clever engineers are duping us - that clever SOS button is designed to give peace of mind. That is a supplementary usage as every new GS (indeed every single new vehicle) nowadays contains a hidden SIM card. The singular purpose of that SIM card is not to support the SOS function (which is a sprat to catch a mackerel) but to transmit data back to BMW about the vehicle. Usage; manner of driving; location: everything except who is riding. That’s why those annoying reminder texts appear about overdue servicing etc. BMW collect this (as every manufacturer claims) for developmental purposes to collectively assess customer usage so they can evaluate what upgrades are needed for future versions. However I don’t like it. My 2012 GS doesn’t have it and doesn’t need it. Technology has its place of course but it’s becoming the master rather than the slave. It’s often unnecessary and gimmicky. So whilst I would never dispute the GS’ rightful place as the “King of Tractors” I’ll be much more contemplative before my next purchase. Safe riding TP1
Great review and its a great bike. Maybe suits you as you cover a lot of miles whereas i 4k a year i prefer the v4 multi as it feels a bit more special and the gearchange is a lot nicer! Tempted by the new 1300 but i reckon a v4 rally more likely for the next bike. Safe travels !
I have exactly the same one, but 2019... 44,000 miles. I love it... from Alaska to Patagonia... it's been the best investment of my life!. Excellent review !... Regards
Love my 2017 gsa except for the noise coming from the from. As for comfort I would give if to my ultra limited for Long haul hwy miles here in Canada and us. Enjoy all your content Bruce. Big🍻from 😎🏍️💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦.
With my cranky joints now a GS would fit the bill I reckon. As for mileage my VTR has just about 70,000 on the clock now and will be taking me back to Isle of Man next year.
Brilliant review mate can not wait for your 1300 gs review. I am in the market for a BMW next year so looking forward to your thoughts on the new against the old BMW 👍👍
Cheers Andy, I’ve filmed it all now and just need to edit them. Going to do a few vids on the new 1300Gs first as it’s hot property at the mo, then I’ll get the next return vid done and out 👍
Can't decide between the GS or GS adventure. Do i really need the big pig or will the Gs do everything i need, which will be day to day riding and some small tours. I like a little off road where i can, but this time round i am looking for the most comfort for riding on road i can get. Would appreciate your thoughts, especially as for once on RUclips, they will be valid, given your experience.
Cheers bud - I’ve never seen the point in the big GSA for most people, it’s just a fat GS. It’s slower and less nimble (with comparative rider obviously) but it definitely gives you a bit more weather protection and there’s more real estate there if you intend carrying a pillion. GS for me all day long personally👍
350-450 for a major service is a wheen less than the apparent cost of a Ducati Multistrada major service (albeit they happen further apart). I don't think I'd pay to get a minor service done if it's just oil and filter though. I'd do that myself. Good over-view of GS ownership Bruce!

Agree Bruce, best bike ever. Hope you enjoy the new GS. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me in Tesco last week Friday.

Great 50 + thousand review Bruce, nothing like a real life test. 👍 congrats on the new 1300 model. 🎉

That NAV cradle phone mount is very very handy. Thanks for that tip.
I was really thinking about BMW GS1250 and seems a good bike. Your video confirmed it. It's made almost for every road.
5 months into owning my 1250 GSA TE. Watching the 1300 with interest, but this is all the bike I'll ever need.
Yeah the 19 plate 1250’s were full of battery and electric issues
Brilliant video Bruce look forward to seeing more video content of the new bike 👍👍
Great stuff 👏👍
Great vid Bruce, love the info on servicing costs, my local Yamaha dealer must see me comin..
Great review Bruce , you have fair put the gs through its paces over the years and it's handled them well .👍 and sounds like you really like it as well ., good going .👍
Bruce, I feel like this is an end to an amazing era.. I really hope the 1300 is just as good to you as this model! Looking forward to new adventures!!
Along with the backlit switch gear, I think it’s also kinda lame that a heated seat isn’t standard on the 1300. But I am starting to come around to the 1300, it’s really growing on me. Great video, Bruce!
Spot on review, couldn’t agree more. Mine’s 2 years old and 10k faultless very comfortable 2 up miles
😂😂😂😂love it.... 👍👍
Went from a Africa Twin 1100 DCT to a R1250 GS TE. No regrets, but AT a fantastic bike. Did over 1300 mile round trip of Scotland fully loaded GS, the bike performed like a formula 1 tractor.
Why is it called tractor? Is it because the cams sounds?
I had an air cooled 2012 GS triple black, sold it after two years and regretted selling it ever since, now I have a S1000R love this bike but still miss the GS 😢 great vid 👊
So you quite like it then Bruce?? 😊
Just picked up a 2019 GSA, had it about a month...best bike, EVER! 😁
Blimming Brilliant that Bruce, nicely made.
Brilliant vid bruce enjoy the new gs ,good to see the beast when's it coming back out
The prise in Denmark is 388.000 Dkr.
About 40.000 pund.
15.000 km service about 300 pund.
I have to move to UK😊
Look forward to you reviewing your new one
Excellent video and commentary. I’ve owned three RT’s and an RS. Time for a new GSA.
Hi Bruce.
Thanks for doing the review. It was exactly the information l was looking for.
i have a 2013 model, and covered circa 26K in the last 18 months on it.
Never owned a GS, however I can’t wait.
Brilliant Bruce 👏🏼Clear, concise, honest.. clantastic review 😂
Just to add my pennies worth … You hit on the one thing All of us look for in a bike that it feels and performs to what makes You smile 😊….You always have a huge smile on your face after a spirited set of the twistiest on your “Tractor” …
What more could you ask of it 👏👌🥃🏴
100% brother - there’s NOTHING more to it at the end of the day is there, your bike has got to make you smile! 😉
thanks for this, i have this exact bike, same color n year, im here in california with and i just hit 36000 miles. i hope to sell it at end of 2024 and get the 1300 cc.
Quality as usual pal
Cheers dude 👍
Great video, thanks. Do you know where I can get the phone mount from? Looks good
The link is in the vid description bud
Dont keep us waiting and post the video of the new bike. R1300gs should be a good 👍
I have exactly the same one, but 2019... 44,000 miles. I love it... from Alaska to Patagonia... it's been the best investment of my life!. Excellent review !... Regards
Good honest review Bruce. I don’t see the point of back lit switch gear other than it looks pretty in the dark
That ending! Mic drop 😅 Great review Bruce.
Nice one 👏👍
Brilliant review mate can not wait for your 1300 gs review. I am in the market for a BMW next year so looking forward to your thoughts on the new against the old BMW 👍👍
great honest review bruce..still not buying a gs tho ;) ... i see the beast is still in the garage ,when can we see the refurb vids?
Cheers Andy,
I’ve filmed it all now and just need to edit them. Going to do a few vids on the new 1300Gs first as it’s hot property at the mo, then I’ll get the next return vid done and out 👍
Great perspective mate
Thanks Dan, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great review
Bruce never had to alter the valves across 5 bikes in 250k miles and the job is so easy to do
Cracking review, and round up of your 1250, can't wait to see what you get up to on the 1300!
I feel an iron butt challenge test with it coming on 😂
I'm already halfway there on my 2022!
Cracking video as always Bruce how you finding the new one?
Thinking about making plunge
350-450 for a major service is a wheen less than the apparent cost of a Ducati Multistrada major service (albeit they happen further apart).
I don't think I'd pay to get a minor service done if it's just oil and filter though. I'd do that myself.
Good over-view of GS ownership Bruce!
considering sizing up to one of these once those insurance premiums drop (ride the BMW 850 GS at the moment)
