I bought the GSA with ASA and love it. My 5th GSA and I’m all about comfort. I can ride in manual if I want to be a bit more dynamic but to be honest it’s matched well with the different drive modes in the automatic mode. Try both and I’m sure you’ll agree the ASA is not a compromise in any respect.
Thanks to MC Oslo here in Norway, I've had the utter pleasure of taking this new GSA out twice. It's absolutely perfect. Compared to the much faster XR, with super-sharp brakes too now (improved last few years) doesn't have the comforts of the GSA. On it, cocooned as you put it covers the sensation. It's just a brilliant bike, thank you for this likewise review!
loved the 1300 GSA from day 1. It now makes the 1250 GSA and the standard 1300 GS look dated. I would have gone for the 1250 over the 1300 GS before the GSA came out. "Your auto gearbox awaits" 😂😂😂😂. Great video. Been waiting to see these bikes together on a review. Has to be the GSA! I currently have a Suzuki GSX-S1000 and Rocket 3 GT 221 and wanting to move to one bike. This has made my mind up. 👍👍
I have a lot motorcycles, been riding 30 years. One thing I've really started to dislike though are heavy bikes. I tried a Tenere 700 and even that bike was too much. Currently my limit seems to be around 425 lbs, with the sweet spot being around 350ish. I think my KTM 690 is the perfect power and weight.
Tremendous review. BMW's previous GSA iterations, were all about bulk and presence, but your collective review on the new GSA proves what a great all-round and competent quality riding machine this really is. Worth every penny (and no need to use a tinted visor😂). Thanks again to you both, for the great insight and entertainment.
The Africa twin DCT (mode 2 that is) is great, in fact I really don’t want to go back anymore. When you’re touring abroad in a big town it’s one less thing to think about. Off road is just great. Can concentrate more on the fun ! Funny thing bikes with big tanks. I’ve got the Honda ATAS and going to bikes with smaller tanks feels odd. A big tank bike feels like your riding something substantial and with road presence.
Videos of the 1300 GS came out about a year ago. I took one look at it, then went out and purchased a 2023 1250 GS. Couldn’t be happier. When I saw (drop jaw) the 1300 GSA, I knew, no doubt that I was right all along, for me. As always top shelf video, well done chaps.
I've recently upgraded from the 1250GSA to the 1300 ASA version. I use the bike it in the manual setting all the time...... because the quick shifter is just so sublime...I can shift up or down when I want without having to worry about whether my throttle is open or closed. Its just unbelievably good. The old 1250 gearbox is so agricultural by comparison.
The GSA IMO looks like a shoebox with a head lamp stuck on . Having said that from your comments both have a lot going for them . Time will tell, as will sales . Great video guys as always enjoyed the ride along 👍.
Complex heavy expensive SUVs are not my thing. I like the reviews, the German engineers are brilliant and it’s good to hear about the tech. Im only mid 50s so not old enough for these yet, still fun over comfort for me.
Very expensive computers and gadgets, not my thing, iPhones, watches, automobiles, what’s the world coming to. What happened to smoke signals, horse buggies. People used pencil and paper and lick stamps. I am too young for all this technology. I am only in my fifties.
Think you miss the point. I like riding and the tech is a distraction from it. I retired early from a successful high end technology job. I love tech. I just turn off all the interference on my 765. I still like to back it in and play. When I am older a SUV will fit the bill. Ride safe, have fun and excepting we are different.
I had an 1150 GS back in ‘03. Great bike for mile munching, used it for travelling between London and Ireland. It must have been a a Monday bike after the beer hall cos it kept on breaking down. But now I have a V85 2024 model, which so far is really good. My nearest dealer is 100 miles away in Dublin, but I can get all my parts from Germany, which is cheaper. I’m not sure about this new automatic gearbox trend. It’s great until a sensor goes wrong. But it’s up to people what they want to buy. Their money, their choice. Good video. Keep up the good work.
Great review guys. Comparing the two is really helpful for riders consider the new GS og GSA. I myself think if I was about to buy the GSA I would spec it with the ASA. 👍
GSA with ASA……superb bike I think BMW got the aesthetic about right, you could travel massive distances…….but then I can on my Triumph GT Pro 1200 which cost half the price on a deal, I do like the auto function great for congested roads - good review gents 👍
ASA is a whole new learning for us all after riding bikes for many years. Look how many of us now drive automatic cars 😳 I found the manual ASA way better than the shift assist on my 1250 GSA. From my test ride the D + Road mode is for cruising, D + dynamic is brisk riding , manual is there if you want a more traditional feel or giving it the beans. Great reviews guys 👍
Nice one chopsy good to see Greg as well , never been an adventure bike fan but I bet they are the best bikes nowadays for touring and eating the miles , with our roads .!! But good bikes for taller riders as well they look big bikes ..😁👍 great stuff .Auto bikes a no no for me also.!
Great review & amazing machines. Although, they're so big, heavy, expensive & laden with tech I don't want or need, I just couldn't ever see myself wanting or owning one. I also can't figure out this sudden obsession with automatic transmission that all the manufacturers seem to have. I see it's place & benefits etc but I just don't think the majority of bikers care or want it.
I had a test ride on the GS yesterday. My past experience on adventure bikes is they are too tall for me, the Adaptive Vehicle Height control is a clever piece of tech. The whole bike seems very focussed on rider safety. I might consider doing a part ex on mine.
I waited until the standard 1300 came out before I decided on my ATAS, the GSA I agree is less offensive looking than the standard GS, and it is becoming less offensive overtime. As a ‘thing’ to ride and own, I guess time will tell. The ATAS is a well proven platform. And, selling better now than ever before. I think you need a big group test with the top 4 big adventure bikes… I’m happy to help if you need an extra rider!! Awesome job though gents. 👍👍
BTW... you've asked what the crash bar extensions are for... these prevent the bike from tipping over too far (easier to pick it up again). Another thing... if you ride without the panniers, the frame is much slimmer compared to those on the 1250 GSA. Looks not as bulky.
I can see a use for the GSA in Australia, where we can use the 30lt tank, but in the UK (where is fits in out second smallest state, Victoria), I can't see the point.
You've completely missed the point. The GSA sells like hot cakes in the UK as people love it for it's touring capabilities. I've ridden on around both the UK and Europe and it's epic in that role.
Hi guys, six weeks ago I ordered a 1300 GSA with ASA, I love the system, I have a little arthritis in my left wrist, so from that stand point alone it will make life easier, and lets be honest when quick shifters came along most people were sceptical, and how many people have manual cars these days. I do believe the key word is choice, it's naughty of Yamaha to deprive people of that. Thank you
I have no doubt, without riding either, except the older 1200 versions, that the Standard 1300 GS boxer is always going to be the best, and more sensible choice. But then, each to his own.
Great comparison. Looking forward to the next one. Ps if you could do another end of season roundup with Gregg. Looking at what bikes have been released and what you have in the books already to test. That would be great. :)
Can’t wait to see a r1300rs, love my 1250rs but really been leaning towards the gs, and the 1300gsa with asa would be a nice upgrade…unless the rs gets one before I look to upgrade in a few years 😉😉😉 come on bmw you know you wanna do it 😂
Those indicators are not really visible when. Braking either. I like the look of duel tail lights. Maybe one Brake light should extinguish during indicating.
Gs for me not the adventure , for me It’s just a bit to big n heavy great bike though also I think Honda do a foot lever to actuate the dct as an option , it may have been mentioned in a comment already .. love the banter and the standing on pegs “gs mode” 😂
We rode them back to back last Friday like you guys. And the Adventure wins hands down… what an awesome bike… however I stalled the auto at a T junction. Hmmmm. I am as yet not completely convinced on the auto… another test ride needed.
@@FenTour I certainly wouldnt buy in until they are thoroughly proven but the looks of the new GS models put me off anyway. Sticking with my old and now obsolete 1250 😉
Yeah good review loads of gearbox discussion & plenty gushing about the GSA! Which is of course fine for a rest ride, theres no mention though about living with the GSA on a daily basis, it would certainly be more difficult! giving yourself a potential hernia getting in / out of the garage manual handling etc. lol 😮
I think the standard GS feels more like your everyday european SUV, like an X3 or something like that and the GSA has more of a Ford F150 feel to it. And while I actually enjoyed the few times I have driven those bigger pickup trucks, I don´t like it as much on a bike. At least currently. And the GS is a bit nicer for commuting and as an off-road novice, I am surprisingly confident on it when I leave the pavement. I haven´t tested the new GSA of course, but the GS feels more like a sports tourer on the road, which I really enjoy here in the Alps. But I understand everyone going for the GSA. Looks very good in person. Ever since I have seen it live it doesn´t look that strange anymore in pictures and videos. And If you do travel very far and long days, it will be more comfortable. Even though I have had 900+ km days and 13h in the saddle on the GS as well.
The older i get, the more expensive the bikes, the more i'm going back to more simple bikes. Rode only Gs for years as daily driver also big trips. I'd be happy with a t7 these days
I was a bit disappointed by the looks of the new GSA but it's grown on me a lot. I doubt automatic bikes will completely supplant manual transmissions but the fact that fewer and fewer people learn to use a clutch every year has to be affecting motorcycle sales. I just bought a new car specifically because it has a manual transmission but here in the USA we have just a handful of cars left that offer manual transmissions and that means the majority of learners are driving automatics - it's a textbook example of a vicious cycle (no pun intended).
Always good review when your both together. I agree that i want the option if I want an automatic gearbox. I hope that manufacturers don’t make the automatic as standard, look the way cars have gone. Will you be reviewing the new S1000RR.
I would never buy the adv model, in my view and perspective the GS 1300 has finally matured to perfection. Why? Well because it’s finally compact enough and lightweight, also because it’s now more sporty and very cool looking. ADV model at least looks vise takes it all away with the rugged boxy look. I am not saying it is worse than regular GS performance vise… But the boxy overgrown look Shirley makes it more cumbersome and harder to handle again. For average riders like me, 179cm 31/5 inch inseam regular GS is finally perfect and Trophy version of it is exactly what I will be buying 😊
Next year the new wrap around hd screen comes out, will be a concave screen that sort of extended between clutch reservoir and brake reservoir will be touch screen w gloves , apple car play android auto, basically similar to the screens in their cars,
I agree with you guys the GSA is the best although I am not interested in the auto gears. I have a quickshifter on my Superduke R and have never used it, am I a dinosaur? I crossed central London today too from the Ace Cafe to Mid Sussex. The Adventure has a definite presence
Hope this wasn’t already asked and maybe I missed it in the video but what was the “warning on the screen of the regular GS with ASA? Thanks, and great review!
IMO, the 2024 GSA looks just as modern as the 2025 GSA, the 24 looks more substantial and more capable. Rode the ASA GSA this weekend and the gear changes is a bit staggered you feel each change. I prefer using the Quick Shifter once you get beyond 3rd gear than the ASA. So for the aesthetic of the new GSA, it looked terrible when I first saw the pictures, when I actually saw the bike in person it looks much better. Riding dynamics, the 24 GSA you feel more “IN” the bike, the newer 25 GSA I felt more “ON” the bike. (6’3” 33 inseam, 245 lbs) - Bought a 24 GSA left over, Interesting fact the local dealer has sold all of the 24’s since the 25 came to the showroom floor and had to order more from the warehouse to keep up with demand for the 24 GSA.
is the width of the new GSA wider with the two side panniers on than the old than the 2023 version? i found i was able to gauge narrow entry on my 2023 GSA with my handles bars when having my side boxes on. Great content Thanks.
Motorcycles for men! Lol. GSA looks very nice I think, it would be my choice! Think I'll buy a GSA and bugger off for a Scandinavian arctic tour next summer! On the auto version the foot gear lever is literally just a foot operated switch!
I think they are coming out with all the automatic gear boxes. Is they are preparing the public for electric motorcycles with no mechanical gear box. Just my opinion. If someone has a different option that ok as well.
I’m in I saw the green Travipastrana one in my dealer love it I want the triple black with the sup light road wheels but I can’t make my mind up auto or manual I can’t get an auto test as my local dealer only has the manual was it that good guys ?? Please help me 🎉 lovin the back & forth between you two keep it up
It's funny I have biker friends who drive automatic cars, and say they will never go back to manual, but mention automatic motorcycles they have a complete meltdown,🤔🤔
I am one of those, and the difference is you see the car as an appliance whilst you use the bike as a hobby. To use as a way of transport and everyday situations auto makes great sense. When you only want to enjoy the thrill of riding (thanks EVO for your moto), auto makes no sense. If I could have a car only to have fun on weekends it would not be auto either.
Yes as replied above, bikes are all about the riding pleasure. Cars are great at going a to b as easy as possible. I would like an automated car which just took me to my destination. I certainly wouldn't want the equivalent motorcycle
@@anderarrillaga3856I have an electric car and it just transports me with the least effort possible. I have no desire for an electric motorcycle or an automatic motorcycle. I don't even want a TFT on the motorcycle.
I'd be interested in hearing how the auto gear box works around town when there's a tendency to feather the clutch a lot more. I guess bmw have tested it in all scenarios but reckon I'd still prefer a clutch?
What BMW have done is genius with GS and the GSA. They are almost like two different bikes now. The standard GS is more of a City dare I say Hypermotard where is the GSA is sticking to its roots.
Moved to Ducati and not going back, prefer the standard GS and I wouldn’t be seen dead on the new GSA. Great engineering but I hate the look and the gearbox is awful. I had too standard GSs and a 1250 GSA, the best one a 2015 Triple Black. The Ducati V4 is a joy to ride and gets admiration even from non bikers.
I was completely shocked the other day, somebody told me that the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 weighs 240kg! Then I realised that the new 1300GS Adventure is 269KG! Why is the Shotgun 650 so blooming heavy by comparison?
Adventure bikes like this have got so complex and expensive damage if dropped when going off road (which is their supposed purpose) that they've moved away from their original concept. Much like the new Land Rover Mr Grumpy was driving!
So get an old bmw r850 or any other bike older than 20 years if you don't like technology. Actually the cheapest way of transport will be a bicycle. Get one and be happy.
@keithquinn5624 True. I'm old school... Off road for me is mud plugging n giving it the beans... But I'm an ex motocross rider, thrashing about on a 2 stroke 125 so that's my reference. Thanks for replying.
Would have been good if you could have gone through the dynamic differences of the two bikes, understanding your not allowed to say anything bad about them being sponsored but just to go through the cornering differences would be great.
Great vid there lads. I think in 6 months time this new GSA will be their best seller yet. The more people ride them, the more people realise how incredible they are and all the time people are getting used to the looks. You hit the nail on the head right at the beginning of this vid when one of you commented that the 1250 GSA looks dated. I totally agree. Thanks again. Cheers 🙏🏍️
Its a tourer i have Ride them all. Gsa its not fun just practical. Iaf you Ride alps and offroad GS is always top of the line. I drive gs and just Ride along like an old man on the gsa 😅
Does the ASA shifting behaviour change depending on the ride mode? I.e. if it up shifts a bit early in ‘Road’ mode, does it hold onto each gear a bit more in ‘Dynamic’?
Interesting, I like my standard GS, I don't need the extra weight of a GSA. I've sat on a 1300GS, liked everything except the price tag.I hear the 1300 is not as comfortable as the older bikes. How does the 1300 GSA comfort compare to the old GSA.
I don't get the new rear lights design, it's a adventure bike, you're going to drop it with possible damage to rear indicators, then you have no rear lights to ride home,WTF,how is that a good design 😱
I wonder how expensive servicing is on these bikes or how much maintenance a rider with above average ability could do? Makes my R80GS and R100GS look very basic.
I thought putting the auto shift on the gear lever was cool, but then realized BMW can’t do paddle shifters due to their wonder wheel. KTM does both, others just do paddle shifters. AND I want to reinforce the fact that you CAN shift while in auto. 🤓
16:04 Those caps will be stolen as they are so easy to discreetly take off and taken by other GS riders because their cap is missing cause it was stolen, it will be a perpetual Circle-Jerk of Taking & Replacing Electrical Caps

Love the dual vids with Greg. Always great to watch
this is a really great idea. Live conversation back and forth discussing the two different bikes. Loved it! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
loved the 1300 GSA from day 1. It now makes the 1250 GSA and the standard 1300 GS look dated. I would have gone for the 1250 over the 1300 GS before the GSA came out. "Your auto gearbox awaits" 😂😂😂😂.

I've done mate!!! Jajaja so loving my 1250 ADV a lot, jajajajaja you're ok!!!
Absolutely brilliant comparison guys. I will be px’ing my GS1300 for a GSA when the three year warranty expires. Brilliant bikes the pair .
That was a top review guys
Love the two detailed opinions on things as you ride them 👏👏👏👏
Was going to say your a bit like little and large but you will take it the wrong way 😂🏴
I have a lot motorcycles, been riding 30 years. One thing I've really started to dislike though are heavy bikes. I tried a Tenere 700 and even that bike was too much. It reminds me of a locomotive..
Complex heavy expensive SUVs are not my thing.
I like the reviews, the German engineers are brilliant and it’s good to hear about the tech. Im only mid 50s so not old enough for these yet, still fun over comfort for me.

Top class vid as always
It’s a tank on 2 wheels, absolutely love it, can’t wait to get mine now :)

The rifle mounts at the front are pretty cool.

I don't doubt the GSA is a technical tour de force but I'm afraid, subjectively, I find it absolutely gopping.
Hated the GSA when it was launched.I now want one!

Two of my favourites!
I’ve had several GSAs over the years, gone back to an RT for long trips. Much less rpms. Aprilia 660 for adventure bike .

If the panels in front of the tank was black, it would'n't look too bad. But lack of brake light in heavy rain or fog, scary.

GSA’s styling is growing on me.
I actually laughed at the DuploMW when the video started😂
Always good review when your both together. I agree that i want the option if I want an automatic gearbox. I hope that manufacturers don’t make the automatic as standard, look the way cars have gone. Will you be reviewing the new S1000RR.
Yes I agree Kelvin auto should only be an option! Yeah of course I will be reviewing the new RR next year, can't wait!! 😁
For average riders like me, 179cm 31/5 inch inseam regular GS is finally perfect and Trophy version of it is exactly what I will be buying 😊
yep agreed
Next year the new wrap around hd screen comes out, will be a concave screen that sort of extended between clutch reservoir and brake reservoir will be touch screen w gloves , apple car play android auto, basically similar to the screens in their cars,
Oh that sounds very interesting 👍
I’d love to see the anti theft brace for that!
Hi there, it was just the low fuel warning that’s all and no issues 👍👍
Thank you!
Great review. If one is not ever going off-road, would you choose the RT as the goto for touring and enjoying the twisties when you get there?
Good question and probably. The RT is a fantastic tourer and sometimes a little overlooked 👍
I think you could be right!! 👍
I’m in I saw the green Travipastrana one in my dealer love it I want the triple black with the sup light road wheels but I can’t make my mind up auto or manual I can’t get an auto test as my local dealer only has the manual was it that good guys ?? Please help me 🎉 lovin the back & forth between you two keep it up
Yeah I can't help you there... I'm not sure between them either! 😄👍
@ 🤓🤣🤣👍
It's funny I have biker friends who drive automatic cars, and say they will never go back to manual, but mention automatic motorcycles they have a complete meltdown,🤔🤔
Ikr, makes no sense. I'm interested in all types of motorcycles, traditional and new. I'd love an auto box, especially for longer rides.
I am one of those, and the difference is you see the car as an appliance whilst you use the bike as a hobby. To use as a way of transport and everyday situations auto makes great sense. When you only want to enjoy the thrill of riding (thanks EVO for your moto), auto makes no sense. If I could have a car only to have fun on weekends it would not be auto either.
this
Yes as replied above, bikes are all about the riding pleasure.
You def suit the ADV Chopsy 👌
Hmm not sure I'm happy with that comment... 😄👍
@ you don't take compliments well 🤷♂️🤔😂🏴
I'd be interested in hearing how the auto gear box works around town when there's a tendency to feather the clutch a lot more.
If you have the GSA do you take a second look before shutting off the lights in the garage?
I dont know where we're going, should've gone left there i reckon? 😂
Nobody takes them offroad…. Maybe .1 percent of actual buyers might do a bit. Like flat gravel road is offroad to them.
They still make the honda xr650L, a better adventure bike with s few mods.
@keithquinn5624 True. I'm old school... Off road for me is mud plugging n giving it the beans... But I'm an ex motocross rider, thrashing about on a 2 stroke 125 so that's my reference. Thanks for replying.
700 tenere will beat this hands down as an adventure bike in my opinion.
Honestly auto& cruise sounds
Would have been good if you could have gone through the dynamic differences of the two bikes, understanding your not allowed to say anything bad about them being sponsored but just to go through the cornering differences would be great.
We are not sponsored we can say what we like. Really not much different at all dynamically really, just a little more top heavy on the GSA
I really like the gsa so much I went to buy one but when it came to insurance I just could not justify £1500 gutted to be honest
Cheers 🙏🏍️
Thanks Dave 👍
Its a tourer i have Ride them all. Gsa its not fun just practical. Iaf you Ride alps and offroad GS is always top of the line. I drive gs and just Ride along like an old man on the gsa 😅
Does the ASA shifting behaviour change depending on the ride mode? I.e. if it up shifts a bit early in ‘Road’ mode, does it hold onto each gear a bit more in ‘Dynamic’?
1300 gsa versus mts v4 rally how do think about that compering?😊
Not my style of bike but a good watch
You know you are getting old when you think a gs looks cool
Haha yeah 😄👍
That's me
Darn it !
What was that warning on the dash of the GS?
Low ⛽️ that’s all 👍
Low fuel, easily cancelled by pulling the wizz wheel to the left.
Yeah just low fuel, nothing to worry about
Personally I’d rather take the bus than be seen on a bmw gsa but I like lamb chops on a Sunday 😎👍
I guess you need a therapist :-D
The new GSA certainly looks better than it's little brother 👍
Off topic question here chops, When are you getting back on your project bike for some chops garage time? 😉
Yes soon, that ZXR project will start very soon 👍
@LambChopRides AHH excellent Chops, Looking forward to that! Enjoy your Sunday!
Chops you failed to do the most important test of the bikes, the Starbucks run!
Yes but we allmost went to Costa haha 😄 👍
