I’ve order one with ASA and traded my 1250 GSA. I ride two up a lot and have toured Europe last three summers. Next summer we’re going to Romania and this is the ideal bike. There’s more room on it for two people and the seat is more comfortable than the 1300 GS. I sold another bike as well to help with the cost of the change. I didn’t feel much difference on it compared to my old GSA but it’s definitely wider than the 1300 GS which is to be expected surely ? Fugly or not this bike will be a top seller as the old version starts to look dated.
I do a lot of 2 up touring and if I was buying again I’d probably get the GSA over the standard but right now I can’t justify swapping both financially and also it’s not enough of a difference. I definitely think that seats will be better long distance but for now my backside will have to deal with it 🤣
And yeah I expected that GSA to be wider I think what I meant was I didn’t expect it to “feel” so wide on my knees compared to the 1250GSA. I sat on one in the showroom and it didn’t feel like it angled out quite as aggressively
The adventure only makes sense if you are travelling to Alaska, or transversing central asia, and this just for fuel range. But, you can always carry extra jerry cans, using a simpler, lighter bike, which is always preferable.
TSB - yes that is it, I hopped on the 25 GSA at the dealer yesterday and it felt a bit wider at the tank and seat, I did make a tentative deal on a 24 GSA
PCP has killed the bike industry because it gave manufacturers and dealers the opportunity to artificially inflate bike prices - Massively! People now think of a bike as a monthly figure rather than the total cost of a bike. In other words x thousands is a gulp of breath, but a few hundred quid is just an annoyance. I didn’t realise people were so stupid.
Hardy the fault of the finance type. Bike prices have gone up as parts prices have and technology has increased. Dealers don’t influence the prices upwards they actually would rather the prices were lower but it’s not like they can do much to affect that…
pcp has allowed young people to buy a nice 118i or Golf , they can get into a brand/ image car for a cheap monthly payment, and would rather do that than buy a motorbike. Therefore you have a shrinking pool of customers.
Not cheap though is it as the monthly cost is merely keeping you on a dog lead. When it gets to the end of contract period the amount to purchase outright is astronomical and deliberate. Of course that’s why buyers choose to go down the deposit route again and the cycle goes on. Vanity keeps people poor and brands keep people locked in.
Went from RT to GS ( had 4)to RS. Seen the new GSA yesterday. It is wider than the RT and slightly heavier. All the weight high up, the new panniers are enormous. Tried the new 1300GS with ASA and is a game changer. Will be waiting for the new RS. For anyone just touring the GSA doesn’t make sense….unless you are 6’4.
It’s a good video! It’s nice to see the the financial implications of swapping from the GS 1300 to the GSA version. Thanks a lot and enjoy that super machine. 👍
@ After owning BMW1250 GSA also a Ducati Multistrada V4S the Multi has back lit switch gear which just looks nicer. Wouldn’t have cost much to upgrade to back lit switches on the 1300 On my BMW1250 GSA I have bought the Chigge Ao lite system and its a game changer no more faffery. Apple play just works. When will motorcycle manufacturers listen to what we want? For instance why no wireless charging in the phone holder ?
99% of riders buy new GSA because they want one, not because they need it. How many will actually take it off tarmac? Not many. Only a rich nutter would do any serious off road work on such a big heavy bike. For easy off road stuff the GS with hybrid tyres is fine. I love my 1300gs, no interest in changing. Bigger fuel tank? I loved the distance you could do in 1250 gsa, but given you’re supposed to rest every 2 hours and that there’s fuel stations everywhere , only a luxury. And with a full tank the 1250 gsa was top heavy and not a dainty thing, the 1300 gsa I’m sure is the same filled up.i guess if you’re crossing the Mongolian steppes or some other remote place the extra fuel capacity might be very useful. Otherwise you got your 1300 (or 1250 ) because you liked it, which is a perfectly good reason. NB I think the 1250 gsa looked like a tank; the 1300 gsa looks like a German tank. Both monsters. The 1300 GS is a better looking bike, but so are loads of other.
Yesterday I had the chance to look at the GSA 1300 and compared it to the R1250GSA, with all of the bonuses and discounts that BMW is giving on the 2024 and the price increase that is on the 2025 GSA the R1250GSA is a great value purchase.
Great video, exactly the question I’ve been asking myself. I’m very happy with my R1300GS the engine is great and I’ve grown to love the look. Like you the only real issue I’ve had has been the seat. I’ve bought the Wunderlich seat to try to solve the problem and found it as firm as the original but the shape was wider and helped a little. The best result I’ve found so far is setting the suspension to -2 and using Cool covers from Nippy Normans which just took the edge off. Thanks for your opinion
After a disappointment with wunderlich seat on my 750gs (surprisingly, after initial positive impression it turned out to be very uncomfortable on long stretches), I decided not to change the OEM BMW seat on my 1300 gs. Instead, I bought the bike with enduro package which includes bar risers and adjustable foot pegs. these are the game changers. I lowered the foot pegs, switched the little lever under the rider's seat. Together with the bar risers it gave an extremely comfortable position and the OEM seat is the best I've ever had on a bike. Some people say you need to give the seat time to break in. Don't know if the seat broke in or my butt got used to it or both, but I'm now very happy with the bike and comfort it offers.
Nice video, especially the audio. For the moment I think I will keep my 1250GS, just came back from a mini tour of France, St.Nazaire, La Rochelle, Oradour-sur-Glane, Loire Valley and the 1250 still does things very well. I'll try the 1300 GSA next week though. Ride safe.👍

30 litre tank only makes sense if you use the bike for what its really designed for and go out in the middle of nowhere otherwise theres a petrol station every few miles
I've already seen a few used 1300GS on dealers' forecourts with low millage and found 18k fully spec. Makes you wonder what the previous owners are swapping them for and why.
Good video. I admire your loyalty to BMW. I couldn’t take your approach to them. It’s all a kings clothes job as far as I can see. My Honda has been fantastic and never had a thing go wrong on it. My local BMW motorad dealer in Maidenhead just closed down. For some perspective I bought a new 330D in 2009, it was a fantastic car, the new 530D I bought in 2018 was a load of junk. They had their chance. Now everything I own is Japanese.
As a 2024 Triumph 1200 GT Explorer owner, I would love to hear your thoughts on it and a comparison to the BMW, especially the comfort level, engine and suspension, make sure you test ride the 2024 MY though , as the engine modifications they did for 24 really do make a huge difference from the 22 MY.
Some of that financial loss includes the VAT of course, which is always an instant loss, but there's still a lot of depreciation there. Hardly a surprise that people are looking closely at the recent surge of chinese bikes. They'll also suffer depreciation, but are much cheaper in the first place.

I actually prefer the wind protection on the standard 1300GS which I own which I was surprised about to be honest. Both are better than the 1250 but I prefer mine for wind protection despite the narrower tank and frontal area.

Thanks for your perspective, it helps me shape my opinion before buying. I'm not six feet tall, commute in a lot of stop and go highway traffic, so I should stick to the GS over the GSA?
Unless you need a bigger frontal area and a larger fuel tank I personally don’t see a huge amount of benefit getting the GSA, not that it wouldn’t do the job just fine but I think it’s perhaps a bit overkill perhaps
