Just to say a BIG thanks for this. I went to fit my bars today and initially the two different sized brackets had me stumped, until I watched your video. Very much appreciated. You saved me from a 50% chance of a right screwup! :-)

Great video that helped me a lot. I just installed a set of lower SW Motech crash bars on my 2020 R 1250 R with the help of this video, and made some observations that may also help. On the third page of the directions, as mentioned, it lists the order in which the fasteners are to be tightened, unfortunately it doesn't list the torque value for the two sets of of the lower bolts that screw into the engine case on both sides. The directions lists the tightening torque as "OEM" for these 4 bolts. Per my BMW maintenance CD for my 2020 R 1250R, when mounting the BMW lower crash bars, the front lower bolt on each side, the 45mm on the right and the 50 mm on the left, are to be torqued at 19 nm's (approx. 14 foot pounds) and the two lower rear 55 mm bolts on each side are to be torqued at 55 nm's (approx. 40.5 foot pounds). Hopefully this helps. I will also mention that you will need a deep well 18 mm socket to get the stock long bolt free. 18 mm sockets are not commonly included with most inexpensive socket sets like my own :( . Please put on your patience pants when tightening those front upper and lower bracket bolts on both sides, the 8 mm and 10 mm, as they are both castle nuts and had to be cranked in with a box end wrench and a hex head wrench on my bike. I also had to use the open end of the box end wrench to do the final tightening of the lower bracket nut on the right side as once the bolt and nut are securely tightened, the bolt end ends up so close to the engine housing that you can't remove the wrench in the box end mode. SW Motech makes some great products but they do require patience with the installation directions. Thank you jayelwin for helping all of us with your excellent video!

I have an arm length splint on my left arm due to recent surgery and thought I would have to wait until it was removed to install these. Your video made me believe I could accomplish it and I did. Nice video! Shocked to learn SW Motech didn't provide properly detailed instructions for their crash bars--that's a big job and not particularly intuitive either. Makes me feel glad I got the Adventure model with Crash Bars installed! Now that I think of it, I remember having trouble installing SW Motech's ring assembly for on of their tank bags. First issue I had was ordering the correct ring for my bike--their website made that clear as MUD! After returning the wrong one and waiting for the right one, I read the instal instructions and found them a tad confusing as well. Thankfully there is no shortage of RUclips videos that cover that job. Bottom line: SW makes good stuff, but they need to improve on the instructions they provide (A LOT).

So I bought that bike when I sold my R1 1200 GS. So I’m obviously loyal to the platform. I love this bike. I don’t see replacing it anytime soon with the 1300 mostly because it’s pretty much brand new. Also, I’ve heard some negative things about the newest version.

As you say, the instructions are near worthless and I think I would’ve jumped off the nearest cliff if it wasn’t for your amazingly helpful video! Just a quick question for anybody who still looking at this forum/video. With the front left and right lower bolts into the engine housing, did anybody find it very difficult to get the SWMoteck bolts into the threads? I’m finding this the most difficult part of the fit so far.

The main through bolt and nut on the top of the engine (GS) was a pain to get out due to the amount of thread Lok. Just persevere and take your time.
