    I've been riding for 62 years. One thing I like to do with my bikes is leave them the way the factory made them.
    Any mod that I've done always has a secondary or tertiary issue that I never would have considered.
    At 70 yo, it's hard to swing my leg over the seat of some bikes, but as soon as I pull out of my driveway, I'm free!

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Год назад +1

      Hi Savage, yeah all the extra bit's I've added are I think beneficial in terms of storage space or an added benefit such as excluding the draft from the dash cockpit or the simplest of things such as the centre stand transfer which prevents rust. The extra storage pockets I love as I put first aid kit in such as bandages etc which are light anyway & a puncture repair kit (necessary items on a long trip). I don't alter any mechanics, like you just leave the bike bog standard. Hey, so long as you can still swing your leg over then life is good! I reckon the day I can't, I'll probably buy a trike! lol

      @@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips that makes sense!
      Let me tell you a story about the time I bought solid motor mounts for my 68 Camaro. The original GM mounts failed and sometimes the engine would lift up & pull the throttle wide open. JC Whitney's solid motor mounts held the engine in place, but you would not believe how the car shook with the engine running!
      I went to the Chevy dealer & picked up the recall kit.

      @@savage22bolt32 Wow what a vehicle, I just checked out the pictures! I guess it all depends if parts are purchased from a reputable company. Wunderlich are the dedicated BMW after market parts accessories company which have a good reputation. You pay for what you get in life I guess. You can buy similar parts say from AliExpress but I question the quality. Glad you got the recall parts & I hope the beast is still running fine now, cheers, Daz

    Only about 1000 GBP for your 3 piece vario luggage set??? In the US I paid $700 just for the top box, extra for the pads, the lock, and the plastic frame where the top box fits into. That was $1000 just for the top box at the BMW dealer. I called around and they were all at the same price more or less. You got a great deal for sure!

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Год назад

      thats interesting to know Dr Strange...we always think we pay more here in the UK than Europe because of import duties & the like but compared to your area yes, we are getting a better deal.
      Wonder why that is??
      I know people that use to travel to the US on holiday & take an empty case with them to fill up with cheaper gadgets & designer clothing as it was cheaper there.
      OK bikes & kit are a different thing but I still would have thought you would have got them cheaper than the UK?

    I have a Givi tank lock bag & I fitted a small strap to the front of the bag which goes round the handle bar in-between the handle bar clamps which will prevent you losing the bag while your riding down the motor way if you haven't fully secured the bag fully 😮

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips
      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  4 месяца назад

      Thats a good idea, I guess we shouldn't have to do that but when you have a few valuable items in the bag riding down the motorway it makes sense. Just to update you my Givi tank bag zip has just come away from the seam rendering it unclosable. I've sent it back, let's see how they respond? Cheers Daz

      The GS is the all conquering tourer weighing a quater of a ton. There literally are loads of after market accessories for this bike which you can bolt on. If you look at the total permissable weight of the GS you'll be surprised how much weight it can carry. Thanks for commenting all the way from the US 👍 Daz.

    Surprised you haven’t purchased a headlight protector. Mine was only around £25.00 and fits very easily with four supplied fittings. Appreciate some buy very expensive and cool looking protectors but I just wanted a simple clear one. I have also purchased crash bar sliders, again not expensive but will hopefully prevent damage to the bars especially on a low impact drop

      @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips  Год назад +1

      Hi Adrian thanks for the shout out. I actually bought some bar sliders from Nippy Normans & bizarrely then didn't fit the crash bar?
      I need to re-order as that's a sensible purchase. Also the headlight protector, not got round to that yet but u highlight a good point, the cheaper versions can do a equally good job 👍.

      I bought a tyre repair kit actually after I got a puncture at the Adventure Bike Festival, I now think that's the No 1 bit of kit to have on the bike. I have a Scorpion compressor too, not sure where to put that though lol. I think for UK riding I can always find a garage for air, if i was on a remote tour i'd probably take the compressor.

    I recently bought an R 1250 GS and a bit pissed that my vario paniers I used on my BMW F800GS don't fit, do you know if there is a conversion kit I can buy so I can use the paniers on the 1250GS .?

    • @DazmatronMotorcycleTrips

      Yeah that's disappointing you can't just transfer them over to the 1250 Graham. I'm not sure about a conversion kit, what I'd suggest is speaking directly to BMW Motorrad or putting a post on the BMW UK or BMW Europe Facebook pages for anyone that's done it? Hope that helps. Daz

    I'm sure you could hang a big truck airhorn on there. Might save a life or two. Of course, you'd have to deduct the heart attacks from the subtotal.

      😂😂 love that suggestion James, can you imagine doing some filtering in the summer with car windows down & a driver drifts a little towards your path! A big old blast on the air horn would do the trick 👏😂. Incidentally there is a bigger & louder Denali horn 👍

      When I go touring as most riders will agree, space is a premium.
      So finding places to add things like a puncture or first aid kit are of great benefit. Not just for me but I'd be prepared to help others bikers or road users if necessary.
      There are loads more additional extras to put on 'the Xmas tree' as you put it, my GS in comparison only has a few actually, but all worth it.

      @@DazmatronMotorcycleTrips Yes I can get that! Thought this was necessary also, but then remembered a big hike I took a year ago. Too much hassle and weight are your enemies. Good point regarding the theft element. I think it all depends where you are touring? Which bit's of kit are really essential & which bit's you can afford to loose & the weight along with it. Just as long as we get out there & ride. Thanks for your comment it has made me think about that :)
