    Hey everyone! In this video I show how you can create a procedural volumetric cloud system in Blender 3d. We use some 3d modeling techniques, some blender modifier like displacement and subdivision to vary the shape of our 3d cloud model, and then finally we use volume emptys to create the actual animatable cloud volumetric. Once you create the system you can then customize the settings to those that fit your 3d scene best. Enjoy and let us know what VFX tutorials you want to learn next on the channel!

    Awesome way to animate clouds. There are some tutorials with that same method to create clouds, but that simple step to animate them makes this one so better... Thank you for your work...

    After watching your tutorial on mountains, I decided I'd add some clouds to liven things up. Searched in the search box and my new favorite RUclipsr popped up : D

      @@LightArchitect i saw that you have done a lot awesome tutorials so now the question arises if you could do a tutorial on the topic oceans....? i would be nice to see one about how to use the spray combined with foam in a rough sea and also how you would create waves a ship is causing when driving through an ocean. And if this is too much work or so and you know how to create this spray/waves i would be pleased if you write me again!ty!

    Thanks. That's a life saver. I am surprised. there is little to none decent cloud solution. It should have been ntegrated in Blender as default. There are add-ons but somewhat limited in shape and/or look flat, lack realistic looks, etc. Don't blenderists, like need to use clouds in their work?
    I understand there are HDRi maps but its hardly flexible enough for my workflow. I need specific clouds at all times.
    Damn, its just clouds if you think.

    • @LightArchitect
      @LightArchitect  Год назад

      Awesome Tomas! Glad you found it useful! I think HDRI's only work for distant elements. For clouds in the scene you need something like this like you said. Obviously there are variations of things like this as well. For example if you don't need accurate volumetrics and your perspective doesn't change too much then you could use a 2d image of a cloud in 3d space. Lots of options. Thanks for the comment.

    Do you know the best way to distribute these clouds onto points in order to make a procedural sky scene? I'm trying to make a sky timelapse and need lots of clouds but I'm not too sure how to add the cloud mesh + volume empty as the instances on points

      Not necessary, the approach of using mesh to volume objects for this is however not ideal, it would have been enough with a huge mesh with a volumetric material instead of mesh to volume voxelization, you would get better movement if you reference an empty object and move and scale it, and you don´t have to worry about voxel resolution.
      With this technique you get a movement only per texture and not the main density volume follow it in sync.
      The problem however with just using a mesh with only volumetric material, is that blenders fractals simply suck, you can´t even access the cloud fractal from there wich is totally weird, since you can access it in other channels.
      So my advice, use this technique for static non moving clouds and not part of cloned parts for a larger cloud sky, for such things it can be nice.
      But other than that, just simulate out clouds either from blender 2.79 with forces, or perhaps use embergen.
      Of course..not everyone has Embergen or can afford it, so blender fluids it is, you would also get more realistic movements.

    Wow!! Thank you so much, absolute lifesaver! I'm gonna mix what I learned here with Mantaflow physics simulations so hopefully the clouds look realistic and they interact with other objects in a physically-realistic way!
    I really appreciate the pacing, the appropriate level of detail, and how well-edited your step-by-step explanations were. Great work!
