**Warning**
If you are going to follow along with this video, please ensure you do so carefully. I made some mistakes in this video which, thankfully did not destroy my Nintendo Switch.
It has been pointed out by one of you that shorting out the pins on the charge port can blow up internal components of the switch, making repairs even more expensive. If you are going to attempt this, please do so with caution and know that I kinda got lucky.
I have had such positive feedback from this video since I shared it and I wanted to thank you and give you this warning.

I picked up a broken Nintendo Switch from eBay. It was suffering from the "Green light of Doom" issue where it wouldn't charge or power on. Here was my fix.
Please keep in mind this video is for educational purposes only and I can not be held responsible for any damage that may occur by you following along with this video. This was the fix for MY switch and may not be your issue. Please inspect your device carefully before attempting ANY repairs.

The charging it with the charger like you said at first worked for me. Thank you! 😊
Very glad my video could help! Thank you for watching!
I watched a lot of tutorials and went on multiple websites, only for me to realize that there was just dust in my dock. I blew it out and it worked again. I feel really stupid right now.
I used to sell mobile phones for a living. That was the number one issue with most "my phone won't charge" issues. I have been a victim myself and you are far from alone. Glad you got yours working too.
Omg! It’s working!
@@ReviewsforNerds I almost bought a new phone the other day for charging issues. While I was in the store they asked to look at it; turns out I had lint stuck in the charging port.
It is ridiculous how many problems can arise due to the presence of dust. It is without question the biggest enemy to electronics and is a never ending trial to keeping it away from your electronics.
Does nothing for me. Cleaned it out and I still get nothing. The power cord works on the switch and charges it when it's plugged directly into the switch but does nothing when plugged into the dock and the switch is on the dock. The light just flashes
thanks so much! my dock finally worked, glad i came across your vid😄didn't realise the bent pin was the problem
Thank you so much for watching and I'm glad I could help!
Oooff. If anyone is watching this and you find a bent pin in your charging port, coming from a switch tech. I highly recommend you find your nearest repair shop and have a new charging port put in. If that pins shorts to much by moving it WILL burn out your M92 charge IC and your repair will cost a lot more.
Very good advice. In my case I was willing to take the risk as it was an eBay find.
Thank you, sir. You have made a 5 year old boy very happy
Happy to help
You're amazing for this, that was what was wrong with mine!
I am very glad this video helped you!
Oh hello salmence
Thank you so much this helped me a lot!
You're welcome. Very glad to hear it.
tysm you saved my switch’s life 🙏🏼
Glad I could help!
tysm I finally sprung it back to life
That's awesome! I am very happy I could help. If you're interested in modding the joycons, I have a video about that as well.
Just fixed my sons switch using a sewing needle to bend the pin back into place. Thank you so much!
That is awesome news! I am glad my video helped. Thank you for watching and happy holidays!
Thanks so much mate. I had the exact problem. Took all of 2 seconds to fix. I wish I had have found you video first.🤣😂
I'm glad it helped in the end. This was a video that I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to make, but it has helped a ton of people and had the most engagement of any of my videos. That you for watching!
Thanks for the guidance, same issue with mine, though when I tried to straighten it I broke the pin off.
Works perfectly now though, I reckon I lucked out and the pin was mirrored on the connector.
sounds like it. I am very glad yours is up and running. I have had some professional advise since this video aired. They informed me that bending the pins, even with something non conducting, can short pins out which can burn up internal charging components in the switch making it essentially dead. Thankfully this has not happened to either of us. I may have to make a follow-up video talking about this.
I tried to replace a couple of usb-c ports on switches and it is my recommendation that you leave things like that to pros. there are too many things that can go wrong and if you aren't skilled at soldering you can kill the switch.
Thank you I fixed my brother switch. He’s very happy.
That's awesome! I am so glad it helped.
My switch charges fine with being plugged in directly. Soon as I try to plug in the dock, it blinks rapidly and will not connect. Is it a dock problem at that point?
Might be. Use a flashlight and check the dock for dirt and trash. Also there are dock recovery guides online that can help
Thank you you’ve saved my boy!
I'm glad I was able to help. This is one of those videos I wasn't even sure I was going to make but has ended up being one of my most helpful
Hey, Ik this video is over a year old and it's unlikely you're gonna see this. But I was wonder if you know what may be up with mine. The switch itself charges with every other charger I've used so ik it's the not the switch. The dock however doesn't charge or connect to the switch. And whenever I put the charger into the dock to use it, the dock's little green light just flashes with and without the switch. I haven't seen anything else on this so any help will be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like the switch dock could be bad or in need of a reset. I'd check the port on the dock to make sure it's clean and then look online for reset instructions. If it is just an issue with the dock being bad, you can readily find them on eBay.
I have the same problem! Have you found a solution?
God. I never thought id See someone so godly.🗿
I used a different charger and it worked and now I'm so happy 😊
That's great!
What if the dock is charging, the green light is on, but still not working on the tv. I know the cords are all good because my husband and I each have a dock but only one dock doesn’t work with the tv but charges. So we have tried different cords, both the originals that came with them, different hdmi cables, also both Nintendo, and only one dock connects to tv. But both charge. I have used compressed air as well.
Hey. Sounds to me like the switch dock could be bad. If you can use the other dock with the same cords and both switches, there could be something inside the malfunctioning dock board that is bad. It could also be something wrong with the HDMI port on the switch. Either way my suggestion would be to buy used off eBay. I'm not skilled in taking apart the docks so I wouldn't know what to look for.
@@ReviewsforNerds Thank you, that is exactly what my husband did. He bought me the Animal Crossing version.
I just fixed my son's Switch, thank you!!!
Awesome! I'm glad my video helped! Feel free to share it out to anyone you know with Switch Issues
Saved me money because that's exactly what the issue was
That is awesome to hear! Thank you for watching and glad I could help.
My dock charges my switch, and only blinks once when I plug it in, and once when I dock the switch. Other than that nothing happens. It doesn't connect to the tv and my switch doesn't recognize it's docked it only charges. Any ideas?
Check dock port, check switch port, if you have a friend who has a switch, try your switch on their dock. Could be a bad dock and those can be had on eBay.
Mine is doing that too. Hand you fixed his?
@@ReviewsforNerds my brothers switch works on my dock but my doesn’t but mine works on his and so does his so I have no idea what’s going on
@@vxpro1 does his switch work on his dock?
that was happening to mine to.
Bro I'll have to subscribe to you thank you for the guide know my nentendo switch is charging thanks 🙏👍
That is awesome news! I am very glad I could help!
I found the bent pin, it was out and to the side. I got it back above where it’s supposed to go but it just keeps popping back out. I don’t know how to get it to stay
not really sure. I would check the docking station/charger to see if there is something in there that could be the issue.
My son's switch dock has a blinking light. It blinks as soon as I plug it in. Even without the switch in it. The cable charges the switch without the dock and his switch works on my switch's dock. So there is something wrong with the dock. Any fixes besides the unplug for 30 seconds and replacing it? Thanks.
I would see if you could find a replacement charger. I know that sounds counter intuitive but from what I've read that could be an issue even if it's charging the switch. www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/jwlxp7/does_anyone_know_how_to_fix_a_dock_with_green/?
Otherwise the power switching inside the dock could have gone bad, in which case it might be time for a new dock.
On the thumb nail you have the joy case for that?
yup. Found them on amazon. amzn.to/3qyrqRb is the link.
They sell a back plate too, thought about doing the whole thing.
I own a first generation Switch. I did not get a dock as it was a hand me down. I ordered a Used Nintendo Switch Dock on Amazon and it won’t stay on longer than 30 seconds (I timed this). I tried blowing air on my switch’s port, blowing air on the dock port, and the power ac adapter port and nothing has worked thus far. I checked pins- nothing was out of shape. I’m feeling hopeless ☹️
Hmm. Not sure what to tell you. If the switch charges and works without the dock, you could just have a bad dock.
I was getting so mad, and my pins were intact so then I improvised and connected the adapter to a different outlet and connected my switch, and it turned on, it was at 100% too which is weird
That is strange but not 100% unheard of. I'm glad it's up and running again!
A liquid fell on it but my switch still works but the green light of doom is still blinking
Check the port on the switch for corrosion. You could have a small amount on one or two of the pins. Also check the dock itself. Test with someone else's dock to eliminate any issues with your switch.
My switch stopped workin about a year or so ago and when i put it on dock just the quick flashing green light happens i tried looking at the pins with my phone zoomed all the way in but still cant really see anything what can i use to see it better
And also i have a brand new oled n i tried it on that dock and it does the same thing any help would be greatly appreciated
if you are still looking for something they sell usb microscopes on amazon/ebay that could help. Thank you for watching!
sounds like a dock issue to me, but I am no expert
Omg I’m so glad I seen this because I was about to throw it away
I'm glad I was able to help
Shit definitely worked wow lmaooo and I ain’t one just to get you likes or views .i ain’t even see the loose pin I just rubbed a needle in it all around for about 10 seconds threw it back on the dock and it work you the best man thanks
Thank you for watching! I am glad my video helped!
Thank you man you are genuis
I am very glad this video helped you. Thank you for watching.
My water bottle tipped over my Nintendo switch with a dock and the switch itself is fine and I dried off both the dock and switch as best I can but whenever I plug in my switch the dock blinks and doesn’t connect to the TV and idk if it can charge…to be fair this just happened ten minutes ago so maybe I should give it more time to dry but what should I do.
I'd definitely wait longer. There are internals that are still wet. Unplug it from power and HDMI for sure. If you can, hit the dock with compressed air and let it sit. You can also unscrew the cover for the electronics inside the dock and clean that out.
I just held my power button for around 20-40 seconds and it powered right up
Thank you for sharing this. There are some software based resets that can help.
@@ReviewsforNerds yeah I think I just got lucky but thanks for the video
Hi what could I use to fix the pin inside the port
If they are just bent you can use anything small enough to get in there and carefully bend them back. Plastic or wood would be the best bet. If the charging port is too far gone you can replace it but it requires some pretty strong soldering skills.
I used a sewing needle and used the end with the hole to gently hook the pin back round into place.
Hello
I've just got the green light flashing.
I play mostly in the evening but.I played it for hours then went put it in the dock station but it won't be charging and it has a flashing green light.
I'm going to check my connection you did and see what happens. I will let you know. I've never heard of the green light of death on a switch. Does that mean I start the games from the beginning? Like animal crossing from the beginning? I've only just bought two brand-new controllers. If I knew my swatch.
Nah, I don't think so. In my case the green light of death was the device just wasn't charging at all. Not 100% sure about starting over but the switch I purchased for this video was wiped after shooting this so that I could log in.
@ReviewsforNerds hello
I did what you did. And now it's working perfectly.
The charging at the bottom was a little bent so I straightened it and now I don't have that issue anymore. I didn't want to buy another switch and didn't want to start my games again. . Thank you .
When ever i plug the adapter to an outlet the green light on the dock blinks once and never turns on again and the dock doesn't work on my tv any tips?
I would see about a replacement dock off ebay. If you are getting ZERO signal out from the dock to the TV or in from the Switch then it could be a dead dock. if you have a friend with a dock you can try ALL of your cables with their dock and vice versa to see if anything changes.
Same thing is happening to meee
Bro it worked thanks a lot
Awesome! Glad I could help and thank you for watching!
Thank you
I am glad this video helped you. It doesn't work for everyone but has seemed to work for a lot of people. Thank you for watching.
I have a problem and it is that when I put the console in the dock, the green light comes on but there is no signal on the TV. But with friends' consoles it does give a signal. Any advice?
sounds like a bad docking station to me. if you havent already, borrow a known working HDMI cable and charger and plug them into your dock to see if that works. otherwise it might be time for a new dock.
How do I tell what pin to move and how do i move it
I would just look through a magnifying glass or microscope. If you see a pin out of place, move it. They should all lay down flat.
wdym you fluff it out like you take it out or u try to put it back in?
I'm trying to remember what I said but in my case checking for lint and gently bending the pins back in place worked. What part of the video are you referring to?
I don't have a second dock, what do I do?
hmm... not sure. You could pick up a second dock off ebay or find somewhere that could test both the dock and the switch for you.
My sons charges fine on its own but won't charge on dock that just flashing green
Check for dirt/corrosion on the dock. There are some reset methods for the dock as well. If possible try a different dock. If it still won't work, there could be something wrong with the charge port on the switch or with internal circuitry.
thanks! i unplugged and replugged my dock and the lights stopped blinking as well as the switch is charging again
awesome! Im glad your Switch is back up and running. Thank you for watching!
I'm having this issue but i don't see any bent pins on my switch port
check dock, power, cables. swap them out with a friend to see if it follows the switch or dock. take a toothpick and gently clean charging port to see if that is the issue.
All guesses. In all honesty I feel pretty lucky I found the issue and didnt short out the device.
My sons switch wont charge on dock but will charge on regular chargers, ive tried it on 3 different switch docs that we have and all i get is the green light of doom..help
Unfortunately I'm not sure what to tell you. It sounds like something is messed up inside the switch. If you checked the pins on the USB c port and don't see anything wrong there could be an issue with the chip that switches between charging and video out. That is way past my abilities. My suggestion would be to take it somewhere to have it checked. Thank you for watching.
Cleaned it out and I still get nothing. The power cord works on the switch and charges it when it's plugged directly into the switch but does nothing when plugged into the dock and the switch is on the dock. The light just flashes
Might be time for a new dock. Do you know anyone else with a switch? Maybe you could try each other's dock to see if the issue follows the switch or the dock.
My switch give me one green blink when I first plug it in, the No green light again. Tried replacing the battery and the same thing happens.
in between the battery and the charging port are several voltage and charging regulators. if you have changed batteries, swapped charging cables/dock/etc and your switch still will not work, it may be time for an electronics store to check it out or time to say goodbye. Bummed that my video wasn't much help in this case and wish you the best!
Thank you! It was just dust. Problem solved
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching!
my switch has a rapid green blinking light in the dock, but it charges in the dock, i got another new dock and the same problem happens
If it charges and works outside the dock and doesn't play in either existing or new dock there might be something wrong with the pins inside the USB c port. If nothing is visually obvious you might take it somewhere. The USB c port can be replaces but it's not a fun repair.
So you know how when you charge a nintendo right well I think I broke inside of and in never gonna work
it is possible to have the Switch repaired. Depending on your location there are shops who could easily repair for you. I tried soldering a USB-C connector and ended up frying 3 Switches.
Je suis francais but very thanks pour ma fille tu a sauvé ❤
Je suis très heureux d'avoir pu aider. Merci d'avoir regardé ma chaîne.
It's still not working for me
I used it on the charger alone and it still charges but still won't connect to the dock
I would check the dock and/or use another dock. I am no expert in this whatsoever, but if you are charging on the OEM charger, but not getting display out, could be something to do with the dock.
The doc only flashes once for me. I tried dusting off, use dif power & hdmi cables. Restarting my switch. And it doesnt work. And this doc has never been dropped, hit, or been damaged
Could just be faulty. I've seen docks online that are pretty cheap and game stop has some aftermarket ones that work with the switch.
I got that 2
how to fix the bent pin
In my case I was able to bend the pin back in place. I was very careful and patient and eventually got it back in place.
My dock light is always on and it wont charge and cant connect to the monitor,i connected everything everywhere and it still buggy
I would see if you know someone with another dock you can test your switch with. It sounds like your switch dock might be dead. You could also reverse the usb-c charger in the dock. I know that sounds weird but sometimes that fixes things.
Ok so here is my problem, the top green light on the red controller isn’t turning on, and it doesn’t connect to the tv
If you are talking about the lights on the controller, that means it needs to be charged. plugging the switch directly into its charger should fix that. for the issue of not connecting to tv, clean charging port and check for bent pins on charger and do the same for the dock. if you have an alternate dock to try swap it out, same with charger.
@@ReviewsforNerds ok thanks 👍
I just pressed power button volume up and down for 30 secs, when I used the Dock, worked
Awesome tip! Thank you for sharing.
just did this to my switch and she turned on!! dock is charging now too, even without the charging light appearing on the dock. THANK YOU !!
How do you fix when the green light doesn’t light up and doesn’t work on tv
I would start looking at the power supply. Does it charge the switch directly? If so, sounds like you might need a new dock. If not, start looking for a power supply
@@ReviewsforNerds the power to the dock is coming but when the switch is put it it doesn’t even charge
My port was very dirty I looked in it with a microscope and a flashlight to find out it was filthy so I put some alcohol on a pillow sheet and then I took paper business card and cut it down to the right size sprayed the pillow sheet with alcohol and then pushed it into the port it cleaned it and now mine don't do that no more but it was flashing for a little while but I fixed it
That's awesome. One BIG mistake I made in this video is using metal on the charge port. I could have done some major damage to the circuitry. Good call using a business card.
My dock light won’t even flash. Meaning I HAVE to pay money for a stupid accessory for a stupid console that is essentially just a cash grab.
Well I guess you always have the option to sell the working components.
Yoo it worked thanks
Super stoked it worked for you! Thank you for watching!
didnt work tried for the last 4 hrs and nothing works, the switch doesnt even charge just black screen
Sounds like a deeper issue unfortunately.
Plugged in 2 different power adapters straight into the Switch. Switch charges.
Plugged some 3rd party HDMI to USB C adapter. Works. Displays on TV and charges.
Bought a new Switch dock board. Still flashing green light. Does not display on TV.
That is interesting. There are firmware updates for the switch and the dock itself but I lucked out on this one. I'd rock the adaptor you found. Do you have a link? Id love to check it out
Hello, can someone help me my docking station does not recognize the Nintendo switch and flashes green all the time. Thank you in advance, best regards
If checking the pins on both the switch and the dock don't help, try a different charging cable, and rest your switch on a friend's dock. If the issue follows the switch it could be something in the switch connector like a bent pin or dirt.
Mine who still doesn’t work😢
That stinks. Could be a TON of things. Check cables, swap docks with a friend, etc. Could be a dead USB port which is replaceable but not for the faint of heart.
I am having this same problem with my Switch I do not have a extra switch though
My go to is to check the pins of the charge port under magnification. If all looks good check the same on the dock. Use any USB c charger to see if the switch charges at all
@@ReviewsforNerds I don't have anything that does magnification
@@ReviewsforNerds does it need to be a specific USB c or will any do?

My grandpa buyed me a doc for me bc my other one was flashing green. I did everything, so I try the one that he got me and my switch isn’t connecting to my dock. Can you help me out? Ty
did the second dock come with a new power cord? if not, that would be the next thing to try. If that doesn't solve it, there could be something broken/malfunctioning internally in the switch itself. the USB-c port could need replacing, but that is a task for a professional.
@@ReviewsforNerds nope, and ok Ty
i have the yellow light of death, nobody talks about it and i don't knoe how to fix
I've never heard of that one. What other symptoms are you expecting? Are you seeing anything else on the screen?
@@ReviewsforNerds the only thing that happens is that it doesn't connect to the screen, i have tried all methods and only now i realized that everyone else has a green light and i don't.
It works fine tho, as i said it's only that i can't see nothing on the screen when connected to the dock, tried with another dock same thing, tried with another switch and it worked fine.
@@simo5917 it sounds like there could be something internal wrong with the USB c port on the switch. There are several contact points on the USB c port that connect to the motherboard and if one of the contact points lifted it could be an issue. Double check the pins and make sure they are all clean and straight. If not you might need to take it to a repair shop. Best of luck to you.
@@ReviewsforNerds i already cleaned so much times the usb-c port, cause i had this problem back in 2017 too, but i didn't care much cause i couldn't connect it to the tv eitherway for some other reason, but now i have a pc and so a monitor i would connect it o play, but i can for this problem

Well that's awesome and another great tip for folks! Thanj you!
It didn’t work
Sorry to hear that. I would look at diagnosing if the issue is with the dock or switch. swap out chargers and borrow a dock if needed. if it is indeed something wrong with the port I would take it to a pro.
