For those who are having trouble with connecting the switch to the tv in dock mode (the green light is solid but no signal on the tv from the switch), I did a factory reset on the tv and it did magic!! Just sharing this solution because I haven’t seen anything online promoting this step. Hope it helps some of you guys!
This was getting so frustrating: reseating the console over and over, moving the HDMI cable around, hard restart. Turned out the power cable wasn't in all the way. I didn't think that mattered until I watched this video. Thanks!!
I can confirm that the power cable/power outlet can be the source of the problem. So stupid… I had unplugged my switch from the outlet to reseat it on a different outlet on the SAME power strip (rearranging plugs on the outlets). But I guess I didn’t plug it into the power strip ALL THE WAY. Once I did, it detected and turned on the TV like it always did the past few years. This was after 2 weeks of troubleshooting more complicated things.
Dude I’m at my cousins house right now, and he had an old switch and asked if I wanted it. He had bought a new switch because his didn’t work. The only problem with the old one is that it didn’t link to the TV, so after hard reset, it actually connected and we are going nuts. Thanks dude, your a legend.
I'm THE worst when it comes to technology! This video helped me hook the switch up to a TV for my boys! I know it's supposed to be "easy" but I didn't have a clue. I appreciate it so much!
I dock my switch into my pc and it shows a green light on the Dock but nothing on obs and when I press the power button on my docked switch the green light on the switch goes off
Thank you this helped a lot! I cleaned every port with a toothbrush and it didn’t work. Then I did the same thing only this time using 70% isopropyl alcohol and it started working once again. Edit: After doing this I got the green flashing light of death, but at least it responded. I ended up having to take apart the doc and getting behind the circuit board. There’s a black and red wire attached to a white connector. While my dock was plugged into the wall and the HDMI plugged into the tv and my switch docked, I had to take out the connector, insert it back in only half way then take it out then insert it half in until I got the steady green light. Once I got the steady green light I plugged it fully in, played a few hours and hadn’t had a problem since.
"You have put together a wonderful troubleshooting video...I almost put my foot through the screen, changing wires etc...then I watched this video!!! YOU ARE MY HERO!!! This granny can't say thanx enough...a heatwave...kids..and heaven forbid NO SWITCH!!!...ARGH!!!...my tribe also says TY!!!
dude you're a life saver. i decided to power up my switch after over 2 years of not using it and it wasnt working in dock mode. this video helped me fix it. the dock was really dusty so i whipped out my electric air duster and cleaned it out
I have an issue myself and not sure how to approach it. I connected my Switch to the power and to the tv and at first the image appeared on the tv and the tv recognized the device as a Nintendo Switch. But all of a sudden the screen went black, and then it came back up, and then black again, and then back up. It is not the exact same pattern always either, the time the screen remains working/black varies every time
The light on the dock wont turn on. For a while it would work but I'd have to put it in/ take it out a few times to get it to work. But now it's just not working. I tested the wires and they all work separately, any suggestions?
I assume mine is broken because ive tried doing literally everything. Different hdmi ports, Different docks, different power cables, checked for updates, soft/hard reboot, factory reset. Nothing works so im assuming theres a chip inside thats broken? Dont know why though, it worked fine then all of sudden nothing
If the dock isn't properly getting into the switch could it still charge?, my dad is having the problem where his switch is fine and charges (and the green light on the dock comes on when u dock it) but it isn't being displayed on the TV, it was working fine on the TV just yesterday too, I know its not the dock of the cables because I put his switch in my dock and it still wasn't displaying on the TV and I just made sure mine was working in his dock on his TV. So it looks like dads switch charging port which is what connects it to the dock is slightly damaged (well it is i can see as much looking at it but it still charges so it can't be completely damaged).
Solution #9 was what worked for me. Who would of thought? I had to firmly press mine like twice and I heard a "pop!" probably dust etc... havent played switch in months. Liked
I tried your toothpaste method, slathered both sides with a butter knife, and it got the job done for me! Sadly I do have to reslather it every time I dock it, but anything's worth it to play Tears of the Kingdom! Could be that it’s not compatible with 4K TVs. Tried everything I can think of with my 4K TV “No signal” Plugged it into my 1080p TV in my bedroom, instant picture.
Solution one worked right away. Checked the light on switch and had too many connections so I moved to a different outlet and had it facing infront of tv instead of behind it and that seemed to have to done it 🎉
Another problem is that the cable could be connected wrong. For example, mine came with the official HDMI cable, one plug says nintendo, and the other says HDMI. Make sure the end that says nintendo is connected to the doc and the other end that is connected to the TV is the one that says HDMI.
That's wild! I never would have guessed that would matter. Mine is hooked up properly just out of OCD, but if I had it backwards I would have never thought of that.
I'm going to try solution 10 because I know my dock, ac adapter, and my monitor are working fine when my alternate Switch works in the dock mode, but my primary Switch does not. Additionally, my primary Switch goes blank mode when I undock it, which I can fix with a hard reset. Wish me luck.
My house got hit by lightning the switch wasn't connected to the dock at the time. But now the switch doesn't appear on the tv. The green light is on while its docked and charging. Any ideas if there is anything i can do to fix it? I am thinking the lightning probably fried the HDMI port.
The dock shows green and when I use “my switch” it shows the green button and shows on the tv but when trying my sons switch it shows the green button but doesn’t show on the tv??? Wtffff
My AC adapter works just fine, so does my HDMI cable. When I dock my Switch it charges, and the green light comes on. When I connect it to my roku TV, on the HDMI 1 channel it shows that my switch is connected. But when I select the channel it says that there is no signal. I tried using my friends dock as well and it doesn't work either. Any suggestions??
I got the same issue on my new Vizio TV too. Tried two docks, diff hdmi cables. Power cord is working. But it won’t come onto the tv. Also cleaned the ports with a tooth brush too
Before Buying a New Doke And a new swich cable i unplugged everything from the swich the hdmi cable and the ac adpted cable and then i will plug it back tomorrow to see if it work but i am certain it will not
The switch I have the issue with might have a problem with its port. We have 2 switches. 1 is a dock killer . It charges and such if plugged in but will not work on a dock
Why is my 3rd-party dock suddenly (over the last few days) being stingy, refusing to send power to my wired controller? The power-on LED is not lighting at all, although once I got it working days prior, the power stayed on reliability, but having problems when waking my Switch.
Was playing in docked mode about 20 minutes ago and the tv pic suddenly disappeared, I tried un/replugging both the ac adapter and hdmi cables on both ends, switching hdmi ports, restarting the Switch itself, and I think one or two other things, then found this video, did the "plug AC adapter directly into switch" thing @98% battery and the battery symbol wasn't turning green. Tried a different outlet, same thing, so I'm pretty sure my AC adapter just up and died :/
Everything is connected in the right place, the green light is on, and our tv even recognizes that something is connected but the switch screen still doesn’t show up. My siblings switch is 4 ish years old but still functions properly. My switch is 2 ish years old but it functions properly and the switch screen shows up on the tv with the same exact settings on the tv, the same dock, the same HDMI cord, and the same AC adapter. What the heck!!!
Mines brand new and it's the non oled model Mario Kart 8 walmart edition. It's hooked up properly and it's connected to the TV but the screen keeps flashing on and off while playing a game. Changed the HDMI ports and settings on the TV and the switch for resolutions yet it still does this! Is the dock defective?
@danshinji456 not yet! I had another switch that was a friends hooked up to this TV before and it was fine! This switch I just got and it works fine in portable mode but hooked to the TV the screen flashes black from time to time.
I tried another tv and worked perfectly, somehow it just becomes stupid when I connect it to My 4k tv :/, i'll try to reset the tv. But when connected to the other tv doesnt blink anymore@@MondayNightRAWsRKO2024-xk9ew
@danshinji456 tried everything, even cleaning the contacts with an electronics air cleaner, it's obviously an defective Dock. It charges the console but will not display it on the TV without losing a signal. Either it's a bad wiring inside from the factory or bad HDMI port that it was assembled with? Who knows! I'm just going to hunt down a standard Black OLED Dock from a used gaming store soon. Hopefully doesn't cost a crazy amount! Such bullcrap for Nintendo to send a dock like that with a new bundle
Power cycle the system by holding the button for 20 seconds until it turns off, then turn it back on. Done right youll see the Nintendo symbol on start, just fixed mine this way. Hopefully helps
The problem I have is that the doc works, but I cannot see the switch on the television, however, if I put another switch in the Dock it can be seen on the television. How can i fix this? I bought a new HDMI cable and it doesn't work either.
I'm having the same issues. Were you ever able to figure out the problem? Another switch works on the same dock, but this particular switch just doesn't seem to work plugged into any dock.
My switch is just a dock killer and it's hell. Everytime I just want to put my switch in dock mode, the switch always breaks the dock! I've tried all these solutions including factory resetting it; is there anyway to fix dock killers?!
Mine is working on and off, already did all those steps, I even have a 2nd dock which is not working as well... When I put my Switch in the original dock, my screen go dark like it should, battery charge but it doesn't show on TV and yes I have the right Input and I tryed 3 HDMI cables .. So I have power, Switch screen turn off in dock but no signal ... Nad after 20 tries, I get a signal.. Dock is clean and spring seem to work fine...
Okay, I have a unique situation, my friend gifted me his old switch for my birthday, he didn't give me a dock, on Christmas, my family bought a new Nintendo switch for the family to use, that switch connects to the dock just fine, but for some reason my used switch won't work for the tv, what could be the issue?
I am kind of having this issue, I bought my wife a second switch dock, and official one not 3rd party, but I got t 2nd hand on eBay. I plugged everything in and went to test the dock out to make sure it worked properly. It charges the switch but will not show picture on the tv. Go back to the previous dock, everything works fine. I’m pretty sure I was plugging things back in, in proper order. Power, hdmi, controller charge cord. But for whatever reason it just plain would not display on the tv. Even tried hosing every nook and cranny with canned air. I will try again an see wha happens.
found out it was the ac adapter that wasnt working and not the hdmi cable or the tv. it didnt charge when i plugged it in to my nintendo! it was labeled for nintendo switch too. gotta to go gamestop to buy one or smth smh..
Does anyone know what I can try? My cables and dock work just fine with my switch so they are not the issue. But when I plug my sister's switch into the dock, it won't show on the tv. The switch is on and when I put it in the dock it goes black and the light turns on on the dock, but the tv still says "no signal". Her settings are the same as mine. Anything I can try here?
My old Switch dock(2017) got some problems and so I bought a new dock, the animal crossing version dock (2020). But can’t show any video on tv after plugging all the cables from the old dock and don’t know why. It seems the console can’t connect with the new one though the green light of new dock is on.

I'm having the same issues. Were you ever able to figure out the problem? Another switch works on the same dock, but this particular switch just doesn't seem to work plugged into any dock.
How can i connect this to the tv if i check all 11 solution
For a game that has no significance between versions(smo), does save data stay?
THANK YOU❤❤
I am kind of having this issue, I bought my wife a second switch dock, and official one not 3rd party, but I got t 2nd hand on eBay.
Ok. If you haven't already, do the things mentioned in the video. If nothing works, it could be bad electronic components inside the dock.
Having this exact same issue, good to know mine sn’t the only one with this issue!
I'm having this issue as well don't know what to do I really don't want to buy a new switch man
found out it was the ac adapter that wasnt working and not the hdmi cable or the tv. it didnt charge when i plugged it in to my nintendo! it was labeled for nintendo switch too. gotta to go gamestop to buy one or smth smh..
There may be a problem with the port on the bottom of her Switch.
@@HowToXcan you fix the port on the bottoms of the switch ?
thats what im wondering too having same issue@@mikemcguire2876
My old Switch dock(2017) got some problems and so I bought a new dock, the animal crossing version dock (2020). But can’t show any video on tv after plugging all the cables from the old dock and don’t know why. It seems the console can’t connect with the new one though the green light of new dock is on.
