I’m so happy for pip! She’s my absolute favorite. She’s a beautiful little one and I just relate to her. We may be small but we are strong and just need our own time to figure out this living thing. ❤
So amazing on the 12th I found 4 hatchling painted turtles when we were cutting down trees. I have them in a 50 gal shallow pond with 4 emerald, 4 orange laser, 4 skunk, and 4 pulcher corydora, 2 giant koi Betta 1 male 1 female, 2 male blue dwarf gourami and a 4'' black ghost knife fish.

All your terrapins are so adorable, even the normal sized ones! Your turtle info is solid and helpful, makes me want to get a terrapin.

Pipsqueak is like me. I was always the smallest among my peers. Everyone always asked me if I was sick, Pediatricians thought I was 4 years younger than I was. Yes now that I am 32 yrs old I appreciate that I suppose.. I didn't get above 90 lbs until 20 yrs old but my environment in my adolescence was not for thriving 😅

nope, mine still bites them as if we have a count down for her to get the food before it all magically disappears. mine is 6 yrs old

Have you considered the possibility of dwarfism? It is rare but not unheard of in turtles and terrapins.

I'm having the same problem. I have 4 CBT and one of them just isn't growing. I feed him or her separately in case she feels intimated by the other turtles. I will just keep trying.! Thanks dan for the vids!

I empathise, these things are hard. As said before, COPPER TAPE (snail 🐌/slug tape) is really useful. U just stick it on the rims of ur tubs etc, as said i use it for my plant pots and it works a dream. Not sure if copper is ok for turtles, but if it is, this maybe a helpful aid and also help with peace of mind etc.

Huh. I wonder if turtles can do the same thing as some frogs/toads. They can release a hormone to stop their siblings from growing, so they can either not compete for food or become food.

I got 4 baby turtles back in December and only one has shown any real growth. I'm hoping the others are just slow to grow.

I got a runt that is having a hard time going it got sick idk if it was the cold water from pet store or what so i quarantined it and kept it frequently changed water with a humid environment, and I am please to announce Sisu the runt is much better no tilt and actively being a active yellow bellied slider and has been displaying much better behavior for over 2 weeks now so Sisu will return to the big tank with their mate.
You are doing so good with her glad to see her eating with luck this will kick start her growth.
But I have a question we see dwarfism In many animals could she have it?
I have one little concentric who ate and ate and ate lol but just wouldn’t grow.After about 8 months he started growling like a weed

You should just use UVB all of the time so you don't have growth issues

I have a question, why don’t you give your baby terrapins a proper basking area?
I have found that it dries out their shell and actually causes lumpy growth. This method gives them perfectly smooth shells! Once they’re 3-4” it’s basking time
Heyyyy i found ur channel abt a week ago and I happened to just rescue two baby red eared sliders. They’re extremely small and I’m wondering about diet and health and water volume. I’m quite new to turtles so anything helps. Basking area is 94-96 water is 76-80 with a filter in a 27 gal bin trying to be fed pellets and pieces of shrimp
I had the opposite problem!! Mine are huge and I’m scared i probably unknowingly overfed them. Would love any of your expertise advice on any of my turt vids if u ever have time. Sry I’m annoying.

Have you considered training your turtles not to associate you with food? It's an important thing to train most reptiles that could be more dangerous then these. But it also makes them behave more natural with you as they can consider you a friend instead of food.

Didn't you have another terrapin that wasn't growing and was stayinh relatively small contrast to the others you have, back a couple years ago? What ever happen to it.
Yes yes yes!!! That was Pumpkin! Pumpkin began growing and acting like a normal terrapin. I gave her to my friend Jamie in California! Pumpkin is doing very well to this day
