Honestly I had an 8inch red ear slider bite my when hand feeding and it was the most gentle thing ever

Mine feel like blunt wire cutters.
My RES tends to nibble like he’s curious if i let my hands linger in his tank for whatever reason. BUT! If he’s annoyed because im handling him it can be SOOO painful. And he’s still juvenile 😭😩
It's crazy how they know whether to bite aggressively or curiously right?
I have a RES who had problems eating (he was a rescue, and half dead when I found him) and will only take food from my hand. He will literally turn his head sideways to get at the food without biting me, and on the very rare occasion he has clipped me, he opens his mouth and jumps back like he's been electrocuted. Even if I stick my fingers in his water before/after he's eaten, he will sniff first to see if I have anything. Never bites. And he can be food reactive. When I give him chicken, he's escaped from his feeding tub and run off with whole chicken thighs :D Just won't bite me for anything, lol.

I feed my turtles chunks of salmon from time to time and one day my finger looked like a piece of salmon and chomp. OW! But it scared me more than it hurt.

A bite from my Red-Ear Slider feels like pinching the skin of your fingers with your fingernails.
And they don't let go.
I never bled, but it hurts, but not so much that I would scream.
That happened with my red-eared slider once! i was feeding it and he thought my finger was food!
My red ear broke skin once y'all are lucky!!!
mine is still small, so her bite just feels like getting pinched by a super light binder clip but it lets go by itself. i’m not sure how my other one bites because she’s rather loving and calm
Except when you’re holding them and their claws come out....
My full grown Chinese Softshell bit me when I was cleaning his pond... it was like razor blades crushing into my finger... so much blood.. and he did not let go for a long time, while he was scratching my hand with his needle sharp claws.
Last Saturday, my 5 inch(Carapace) Snapper got my index and middle finger as i was fixing his screen lid. Deep and blood all over lol! Glad he did not hold on. The cut is still mending lol! The squeeze was more painful than the laceration.
I've only been bitten by a turtle once, and my Map Turtle made it clear that shell cleaning is unwanted. She's an absolute menace when you get on her wrong side

Mine use to hiss at me when I would take the toothbrush and gentle clean them. But after awhile they stopped now they kinda seem to like it. Especially when they are shedding.

Edit- When my turtle bit me, it was like a small pinch, it happened because I was trying to clean his shell, with an old toothbrush, needless to say he did not like that and snapped at me, fast forward a few months later, we have another one, a female turtle when I picked her up to get her out take for cleaning she bit me and tried to bite my brother, she even ate one of our fish out of hunger! She's more on the aggressive side, my other turtle (my 1st, I have 2) only hisses nowadays, but he does that when picked up, if anything he's more on the passive aggressive side. But if you read the entire comment thank you for taking time out of your day :).
That was fun, thank you. I am in the middle of aclimating my blue tongue skink. He knows the difference between food and my flesh but is still defensive.

I remember my first year with my mud turtles, I was checking them for shell rot. the bigger one didn’t like me handling him and he bit me. It didn’t hurt much but it just startled me; I accidentally dropped him into the aquarium. He kinda bounced off the floating log and into the water, but he was swimming immediately after. I did grab him again to make sure he was okay and he was; just was hungry for more vengeance. Lol

I have a yellow bellied slider, and he's never bitten me! 😁 He only tried to once but I think it was because I woke him up and startled him. He even lets me pet his head and he likes a gentle toothbrush scrub on his shell

So the X-ray says that she's totally fine but she simply won't swim with it. I think it may be permanent but she gets around just fine
Worst turtle bite a turtle could give me: I love next to a body of water where turtles lay their eggs, and we get snappers. I'm pretty sure a momma snapper could and would take my finger off 😰
Turtles actually don't protect their young at all! They have no connection with their offspring but yeah a snapper will still ruin your day 🤣

Aghh i got bitten twice by accident... Im training mine that fingers arent food...
First one was strong bite force hurt for a couple of hours but mostly funny like when you hit your funny bone. Second time hubby had hand fed salmon after i trained her fingers arent food . She was so ravenous fingers hanging in tank...and she bit briefly ... Hurt more hut for less time. but beak was sharper . Both times ko marks left
