I think it's also important to mention that all turtles are different and it's important to pay attention to behavior and habits of your individual turtle to understand what they need, how much to feed them, what they prefer in they're enclosure, etc
Bingo, absolutely correct. I'm using this as a super super general rule of thumb!
Ok
@@DanTheTurtleMan_how do you empty the water out. That tub with water would be too heavy for me is there a hose
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ 3:02
I just found one and was thinking of releasing him since he was slightly stressed but figured he might become road kill or fall prey but after this video I will keep him his name is mitch.
1. clean and heated water
2. plants (fake)/cover
3. UVB lighting
4. food
5. tank
Could fake plants poke thier eyes out?
What do you feed them
Do they need basking area??
@@ofthedawnreally
@@teresaames7902 they're sharp.
My mans said he was 45 and Im like what??? Damn I gotta get me some turtles!
😂😂😂
Ain’t no way this dude looks like 34 at most
i knowww that threw me for a loop lmao, dudes looking super good 😂
I found a baby red eared slider in my swimming pool skimmer after a big storm last week and this was SUPER helpful, thank you!
I found one in our pool also!😊
My son found a painted baby turtle also in a pool they were closing for the winter. He took it home and then had to move , and had nowhere to keep it. So I ended up taking it. Cause it was too cold already to let it go. Still winter here so I was wondering if someone wants it or is it ok to let it go in the spring? Next I just heard they're not legal to keep in New York.
@@Lisa-ox4nb If you're still getting rid of your hatchling I would love to have to it. I have 2 maps and have been looking in to getting a hatchling.
I found a red ear in my pool. What do you feed them
We had a red eared slider named Bob, for 12 years. He got pneumonia and died a month ago. He was so aggressive and angry, he would bite your fingers and attack his dock and his heat lamp.
We’re getting a new southern painted baby turtle. I’m excited. A new friend back! You don’t realize how lonely you are once your buddy goes to the big pond. I used to just talk to him like I do my dogs or humans. I always joked he got the best tv and music around. Thanks for this video, I’m so excited for a new friend! We have a 56 gallon so there’s wiggle room for him or her to grow!
Our baby turtle did not make it. His shell was hard, his eyes were clear, the fish living in his tank as well are healthy and the waters appropriately warmed to his liking and no odd smell or odor. He just didn’t make it. 🥺 we’re not going to get another. It’s just so sad when the pets go, especially when you don’t understand why.
We just had a baby turtle walk across our driveway --maybe painted? Spotted? Slider? Um, you are our what next.
How they keep popping up at the same time looking at you is really cute.
Thank you for posting this! My 4 month old musk turtle has the same setup! Everyone’s always on me for a heat bulb and no one believes me when I tell this this same thing!
How old do they need to be before you provide heat bulb? New baby turtle momma here.
Can you provide a link to the heater?
Well ..if you don't have a heat lamp then sitting them in the sun will server the same purpose
Baby turtles listening to the explanation for synthesizing. 🐢 👂🏾 “What” ?
in a little Jon voice. 😆
thank you for sharing this video.. i have many baby turtles here in my room.. they help me alot to ease my anxiety
Great vid, you explained everything thoroughly yet simple enough to follow. Wish I had seen your vid first. I have to find some cool plants like that.
Man just came across your account and really appreciate your content. Been into to turtles since I was a kid. Now I have a red eared slider and a Florida softshell! I'm lookin to add a diamondback terrapin to the family. Loving this content!
Thank you Corey!!!
In the same enclosure, or in separate?
@@Drud My softshell and slider share with a couple cichlids! They're about a year old now .
My DBT's have their own home also
Thanks dan for the care guides I think this will help grow your channal.
Excellent information, thank you for explaining this so clearly. You provided all the details I was searching for to care for my little turtle correctly. I appreciate the fake plant idea, that will simplify the process of keeping water clean. One suggestion, please note measurements in both versions. Degrees in Fahrenheit & Celsius or size in Feet & Meters. Wishing all abundant Blessings!
Noted!!! Absolutely. I sometimes am narrow sighted unfortunately but I absolutely will keep that in mind in the future. Thank you for watching!
Can i have one please
Dan: "You need heated water, it needs to be about 82°"
My European ass: why would you want to cook your turtles? 😳
HAHA woops!!! 🤣🤣 Fahrenheit :p
I thought that once as well. I keep thinking Celsius.
I agree, it's critical to specify Degrees, either Fahrenheit or Celsius! Never know who's watching & where they live. It would be helpful to state both. I watch other content with measurements & they provide both, Feet & Meters.
Fahrenheit 😂
@@RayanYehya yea, got that pretty quickly unlike on some videos where people use metric and imperial both, that's just cruel 😅
THIS REALLLY helped thank you so muchhhhhhh I can’t wait to get my turtle THANK YOU
I love your baby turtle videos
I love this video and how u explain, and ur turtles are so cute and beautiful, keep going bro (I'm a new subscriber;D)
Thank you so much for the help!😍🐢
Love these videos!!!
Thanks I'm planing on getting 1 or 2 turtels
this was so helpful im subbed now for life
We had a turtle lay eggs in our front yard. It’s the red eared slider. This has helped getting a temp setup for them before we take them to the pond. The mom came from the pond, so they are wild. All we want to do is make sure they are ok as newborns. If we take them to AC, they will just be put down.
Thank you for your video it was so helpful. I have a river cooter turtle coming to me from my local pet store..can't wait.
Two seconds in and I'm already hitting the like button. Cuz I know what's going to be a good one
Same
Great video!
We found a baby American slider at our front door. We are not sure how it arrived there but was want to provide a healthy environment for it. Thank you for such amazing instructional videos.
Thanks dan for the suggestion for food!
Glad I found this channel :)
Thanks bro… your video help me a lot 🙏
I just got a new turtle and this is so helpful!thank you!
Keep that mustache and you’ll be showing us how to care for a human baby
💀💀🤣🤣🤣
I volunteer! Lol
I will add a little dry basking area, cork bark is far enough for hatchlings, I favor flat stones for bigger ones.
thanks for the great video! just got told i can get a turtle! so happy! just have to save for for it now!
Good video dude very informative🤘
Just got a baby yesterday my neighbor gave me it. Great info. Warmed the water up put some plants in. Gotta get a lamp.
Thank you so much i have a baby snapping turtle and it works!

Tysm 🙏🏼 I found one in my pool and I've always wanted a turtle tysm I needed to know how to take care of them
Really helpful video❤
nice - just picked up a rare golden thread. turning out to be a daring climber.
Hi Dan. Can you advise me on caring for baby land tortoises? Mine are RED-FOOTED tortoises, I believe they are called in Enlish. I live in the French Caribbean, and here they are referred to as MOLOKOI, or CHARBONNIÈRE À PATTES ROUGES. One of my 4 eggs hatched this morning. I have them in a cat litterbox that I made into an improvised incubator with fine earth and a touch of donkey manure. This was 6 months ago. I took it out of the litterbox and put it in a very small empty cardboard box with a bit of water in a jar cover. (They can drown in very little water.)No food. However, I feel to put it back in the litterbox with some hibiscus branches for it to hide under. These turtles love to eat hibicus leaves as well as various tropical fruit. Should I provide food for it this early? Thank you for any advice you can provide.

I have a red eared slider 🐢 💕 he's so adorable 🥰
Do you have any hatchlings for sale? I currently own 2 musk turtles and would love to add some terrapins
Well explainied.
Cute turtles. 👌
Thank you!!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ Welcome. I have kept a Red neck Slider before. Had separate setup with tub made exclusively for him. Similar to what you suggest, but I hhad missed few things.
For people keeping turtles, your videos should be a good guideline. 👍
Thank you so much I just got two baby yellow belly slider I will definitely subscribe 😊
Thank you! This was very informative, my boyfriend and I found a chicken turtle hatchling in our pool two days ago and we’ve been trying to figure out how to raise it!
Oooh chicken turtles are REALLY hard to raise. I’d recommend finding a local wetland and releasing it!
I’m getting a turtle and i know all of this but I’m excited lol…naming my new new buddy Van Halen after one of my favorite bands
Can juvenile RES survive ok in an outside pond in winter? It can get as cold as upper 20's at night, but mostly stays in the 30's at night. The water temp is already in the upper 50's and he is just getting to where he doesn't want to eat. The juvenile is 1 1/2 years old. Thank you for your reply
ESPECIALLY LIKE the Stuffed Turtle!!!
awesome information
Thank u!
I have 2 turtles and ty for giving me tips
I luv free info
So you need a basking light and a water heater ?? That’s what I’m having trouble with when researching
And some plant cover to hide in and sit on top for feeding time 😄
Thanks your Video helped me out
I just got two baby turtles. But I need to get a heater to keep there water warm and the light. plus I always do change there water and I need some plants.
I had a question to ask you?
Can Turtles sleep on a warm blanket??? Or Blanket???
Is the UVB light absolutely essential? What about natural sunlight for a couple hours per day instead?
I would recommend a UVB lamp, I have a Macleay river turtle and have just had the UVB lamp. Sunlight is still fine though, completely up to you.
I heard natural sunlight is 3 times more useful than bulbs. But idk....
Where do you find the plants? Do they have to be like aquarium plants or any type of artificial plant is okay?
Hey Dan enjoyed your video. I have been wanting to get a diamondback Terrapin for a while now. I was wondering what you do with your big ones that are outside in the winter? Maybe I missed the video. You see I was wondering if I could possibly keep mine outside year around once they get bigger? I live in Texas and it definitely does get down below freezing here but it’s not near as cold As other places, and I didn’t know if maybe some of the different sub species of Diamondbacks would do better in my area than others? Thank you
He keeps his turtles that are in the big pond outside during the winter. If they are younger or have something going on with them then I would set up a tank inside but
Do you keep your terrapins in brackish or fresh water
Just found one near my grass in my front yard my daughter pointed it out and we took it in i have to identify it for its need but this greatly helps so thank you
Thanks
What brand and wattage is the heater in this video?
thank you my baby turtle is going to be so happy😄😄😊😊😊
❤❤❤ I’m excited Dan, I just bought 4 baby red ear sliders…They love music as well interesting fact.(sing to them)🥰 I’m excited taking on this new journey. Thanks for your knowledge!!!
turtle nice man.
Can you do another video like this but for adult turtles pls
I just got a red ear slider for my birthday a month ago i love him or her so much
Hello I'm just wondering about the comment you made about them drying out
I have recently got a river back cooter and she probably spends most the time basking and not in her water is this okay?
Just got my kids a Red eared slider baby I named her Shelly can’t wait to get her setup tomorrow 🐢
Thank you this was so informative. I just bought a red eared baby tiny tiny slider. I was told to feed him once every 2 days is that accurate?
No baby need w eat every day
very good tq.
What do you suggest I do I have 3 turtles one has his own aquarium and two share a aquarium I brought the two together and they have been sharing the same tank for 7 years but I don't think they get along very well IV noticed ones tail is white at the tip and I believe it's from the other turtle nipping at it also one tends to jump on top of the other quite aggressively should I separate them ?
Thanks men for the help to the people who have pet turtles I'm 12 idk how to give them a nice home but now I do because of your video thanks a lot 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
thx for the info now i know how to take care of a turtle (btw i am getting a turtle and now i also know type of turtle to get! :D)

Hey I’m interested in your baby turtles and I would like to know how I could get one, if you are going to sell them in the near future after they get a little bigger.
Hi Dan, I am planning to buy a baby turtle and use a 20gal tub without a filter for now. When it comes to changing the water, Can I do every other day? Do I need to use "conditioner" for the water? Do you have any videos on how to change the water for baby turtles? Thanks in advance.
Thank you I’m gonna get a turtle 🐢 and now I know how to take care of my little baby turtle 🐢
Hi Dan, just wondering why a basking platform isnt necessary for the babies to bask and dry their shells. Do only adults need to dry their shells?
Is it ok if I use a rock structure for cover? I made sort of a cave of rocks and the turtle always sleeps and hides there when relaxing.
Dan, what filter are you using in this tub?
i have some baby turtles i put them in my balcony with natural sun and i dont use heater because i live in a tropical island i just wanna make sure if its ok
Mine lives in a fish tank 💀 10 gal filled up more then Half way with plants and rocks and stuff in the water they sleep underwater with their heads out and love to swim with my fishes
I found one today and it was 34 last night. Will it be ok. Seems very lively. How long does the light need to be on. It gets severel hours of real sun.
They ,are so small and cute
I will hopefully be getting a new turtle in a few months so I need to know how to care for them
Their Great pets to have 🐢 👍🏾
I have a question how do you keep your water warm?
Where can I get that turtle plush? My six year old would love one. Him and I are starting a turtle enclosure
hi im your biggest fan
My dad thought the eggs of the turtle didn't fertilized so he threw one and the turtle's head came out and it was moving but I think it wasn't ready yet to come out. What should we do?? I feel really bad:(
would you recommend a Yellow belied slider?
Wow
turtle number one.
Not sure what kind I have...someone gave my friend this and she said it was too hard to keep clean water, I have a fish tank so I am going to learn about it and raise it - can you help me figure out the type of turtle? I can send a picture.
