I breed diamondback, albino turtle morphs (albino het snow & snow red eared sliders, Albino Pink Belly Sideneck Turtles (in my collection) and soon albino map turtles), indian spotted turtles and hopefully soon, Mata matas will breed. Some of my albino turtles babies and adults are on my channel but I should get a video of my new hatchling diamondback terripans. Great idea and great turtle species in my opinion that you both should get into.

one thing you forgot to mention: how long the species can live for since a lot of turtles can live for a long time and is a long term pet!😃

How ever I am going to one day have a pair of alligator snapping turtles just like Greg's Turtle Heaven.

I have a female False Map Turtle, and she is the funniest little thing ever. I notice that Map turtles can be pretty skittish until you earn their trust. When I got her I wanted a male (for the size constraints), but she turned out to be a female. In hindsight, I'm glad because I think it'll be fun to keep a big turtle. She's gonna need an upgrade soon since I built my enclosure with a male in mind, but hey, that's just an excuse to get a bigger tank.

+1 on the eastern painted turtle. They can hibernate in very cold winter at very early age. Another bonus point:) I mean you only need take care them 7/12 months :))
Awesome that you mentioned the Map turtle, I have one thats a few months old. Not sure of the gender but I made sure to get the largest enclosure I could to give them plenty of room to grow.
My male Paint and male Cooter, both rescues, are Angel babies both so sweet. Most of the time my RES girls get a bit cranky compared the the boys. Those Spotted’s are beautiful! 💚🐢 I can’t stress enough, turtles in aquariums are a lot of work, please make sure you educate yourself and determine you’ve got the time. They can learn their names, your voice, and it’s wonderful when you bond with them and they let you hold them while giving them a good scratch and not want to take a part of your finger anymore as a souvenir 😂😂 My dream is to one day have a terrapin, I called them smiling turtles before I ever knew there name.
I absolutely love musk turtles they make awesome pets. I will have to look up the spotted turtle as it looks like an interesting turtle.
I’m getting a common musk turtle, Razorback musk turtle and a striped mud turtle. I can’t wait!

Love this video!!!! Map turtles have been my go to for fav turtles. Then DBT and painted. RES aren’t my fav anymore after having them for 15 plus years but I still have two and they are still my babies. 💁🏻♂️ Spotted turtles have recently the past year gotten on my radar. ☺️☺️

I have 2 musk turtles. Also 2 maps, 1 painted, and several RES and a couple yellow belly sliders. Just love them. Many I rescued from people who didn't want them anymore. Ppl should know too that there are many turtles in animal shelters. I adopted my painted from one. I look online all the time for turtles in shelters and once in a Las Vegas shelter they had a diamond back. I tried to get him but someone beat me to him. There are so many in shelters of all ages. If you're looking for turtles, check them out....

My co workers had the brilliant idea to get me an African Sideneck turtle last Christmas. It's a female about 5 years old. With the turtle they provided a 20 gallon aquarium which I quickly realized was to small. I live in an apartment so space is a concern. I got her a 40 gallon and she definitely seems happier. Any advice you have about African Sideneck's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much #ILoveYoufChannel

Love to see painted turtles on this list. My eastern painted is beautiful and extremely personnel. You’re right in that the females do get bigger. I’m about to move her out her 40 gallon as she is about 5 inches right now

I'm waiting for my 6 month (I think) old Cagle's Map Turtle, have everything ready to go once he/she comes home! Wanted to get a musk or painted turtle too but since it's my first turtle, one turtle will do so I can give him/her all my attention!

Got my Girls a 3 Stripped Mud in a 20 long for right now soon will be upgrading to a 40 breeder little dude is Awesome and I got a Florida Snapping Turtle in a 150 gallon tub in my bedroom and a Red Eared Slider in a 55 gallon in the FrunchRoom... I currently have 4 red eared sliders, 1 western painted, 1 yellow bellied slider, 1 northern red bellied, 1 peninsula cooter, 1 Mississippi map and 2 species of box turtle. I have a few 100 gallon livestock tubs and a kids swimming pool just for the map since he was biting everyone else she was with.

Do spotted turtles need to be outside in summer. Do they need to be in a room with windows when inside. I live in an appartment want to keep them in the bathroom because then i don't have to worry about the aquarium breaking. Is a balcony suitable for them to be outside in summer months if needed? That's alot of questions! I'm just thinking about "possibly" getting a turtle!
My favorite are all of them! Right now I have 2 red eared sliders, 2 yellowbelly, Mississippi map, Florida red bellied, Northern red bellied and an Eastern painted. Some are male and some are female. Im hoping more of them are males lol. Now I'm just waiting for that Northern Concentric Diamondback. And I still want more 😆 I love 🐢
In virginia the spotted turtle is illegal to keep and is in the endangered conservation status you can get a big fine for having one as a pet

I have a 2 yro 3 striped mud turtle and she's in a 40 gallon tank,but I fill the water to where the filter says it should be and she has sand on the bottom with fake plants everywhere,I love my psycho biting machine,she's nice when I lay her in my hand flat,or if I wrap her kind of tight in a towel,she loves hubby,never tries to bite or run away,but mommy who does everything for her.. she is mean too...BRAT,if I had the money and room..i would love a Mata Mata,they are so ℂ𝕆𝕆𝕃! I also have a 23 yro old RES and she has a pond outside,I also have a 1 yro redfoot and a 9 yro sulcata,what turtles can live with RES's,I know they are aggressive and territorial,but she has 2 stumps up front..no legs or feet,she got gangrene and sepsis and I couldn't afford $1400 per leg to amputate and over a week's time her legs and feet just fell off,I dry docked her,cause the pain medicine made her like a zombie and I was scar|d she would drown,I found her legs and feet under my bed..thats where she mainly slept and I could block her off,so she didn't hurt herself,so what can swim with her and not really pick on her,she had a 8 yro male RES with her and constantly harassed her for sex,I mean nyxie was up her but 24/7 she kicked him with her back legs,he eventually escaped the pond and left😢so sorry my post was so long🐢

Dan can you maybe make a new video about keeping the turtles outside in the winter. I moved my 3 turtles outside this summer and I think they will be staying outside for winter. But I am worried since I've never had them outside for a fall or winter yet.

Aquatic turtles are high maintenance, there is no way around it. Even with tortoises requiring u v bulbs is an annoying expensive itself. I wonder if vitamin D3 supplements eliminate the need for ultraviolet bulbs.

Yes!
Tempature incubation is not always accurate and frankly it just gives a person a good percentage wise in male and female ratios. With working under a exotic vet for 12 years whom specialized in reptiles and even was breeding them, I learned over the years too accuratly sex baby turtles but it takes a good 10 minutes each turtle normally to be 100% accurate. I hatch out a few hundred turtles every year here. But to say a tempature incubation determines accuracy is false. It only gives you more of what ever gender in a particular clutch.

I’ve been told there’s no way to figure out the sex of an animal when it’s too small but I feel like if you’re really good at telling them apart you would be able to. Regardless of the size or age given enough time and knowledge. That correct? Or is it genuinely impossible to tell the sex of an animal below a certain size/age?

General rule is 10 gallons for every inch but in reality for a turtle of that size, at a bare minimum of a 75 gallon tank.

It depends on the space you have y'know? I like bigger turtles as well! But some people haven't the space for them sadly

I got a False Map Turtle which I don't hear anyone talking about and she has grown to a point where I might have to give her up soon. I taught she was a He when I got her as the owner told me that wasn't the case. I have 2 Turtles and my apartment can't withstand all these tanks, I have a 55 Galloon and a 35 Galloon which she is in now and is going to outgrow it very very soon. Any Suggestions? I don't have the $$$ to buy a 75 Gallon tank right now. Again the owner lied to me about what sex the turtle was when I asked for a male.

loggerhead musk or black knobbed map? need help choosing
Definitely loggerhead musk if you can find one currently. The biggest difference between musks and maps is that they are so much more personal. Maps will quickly try to hide from you whenever you're in the room, musks are little bull dogs that come swimming up to the glass as fast as their legs can carry them. Plus, no matter what, a musk can be kept comfortably in a 40 gallon, fully planted/scaped. The black knob females can reach 8 inches, so it would be best to have atleast a 75 gallon, completely barebones.
