Noticed in a couple of the closeups ( 5:21 is a good example) that the little guy/gal you have there looks to be missing a some of the claws on its front feet in different places. 4:18 I don't know if this is a common trait or was just my little guy's weirdly adventurous personality, but I had a red eared slider that *loved* climbing, especially on his people, if you want to have more fun with them I highly recommend lying down on the floor with them and seeing what they do
I got my southern painted turtle when she was super timy. I’ve have her a little over a year. Shes still not this big. Shes so sweet. I just bought her a new tank because I was told she won’t grow in anything smaller than 10 gallons. She is so tiny in her new tank but she absolutely loves it. They really do need a large tank in comparison to their actual size. I don’t think people realize they stunt the growth by keeping them in tanks that are small because they are small. They really enjoy swimming and they need a lot of space to do so. I wanted another turtle but mango interacts so well with me and my kids I don’t think she needs a companion. I’m not sure yet.
Had an eastern painted turtle as a pet(was found wandering in a backyard no where near water), eventually got him a red eared slider as a companion(which he constantly tried to impress with the "mating dance"), they also like when we got feeder fish, they would let them grow quite a bit and then gang attack them, tearing pieces off until it died. Relocated one from my driveway to a more suitable local wetlands just the other day
I never see them for sale in Philadelphia where I am. We always have only, red eared sliders, African side neck turtles and river cooters. However in the woods of southeastern PA, if search for turtles (search to check out, not keep) if I search in the wild, specifically the Fairmount park system, penny pack park, I find snapping turtles and painted turtles

I kept one about a decade or so ago because I found a baby with half of its shell missing with a bloody wound. I kept it until its shell wound healed over, which took quite a long time. I kept him "wild" by only feeding it live food (mostly tadpoles, which it loved). I released it in the same area I found it, and I still spot him now and then, years later.

Came here because I found a baby Painted Turtle at my local airsoft field (nowhere near any water). I know it's gerally frowned upon to remove it from its natural habitat, but if I wouldn't of taken him home he would of been crushed, eaten, or dried out. I feel I did the right thing for the situation. Now I'm gathering as much info as I possibly can.
Hey clint, have you ever thought of doing a video on ratsnakes? Particularly the Eastern (Pantherophis alleghaniensis) And the Western (Pantherophis obsoletus) They are really cool snakes and like a more intermediate corn snake!
so I've been thinking about a pet anole or some sort of amphibian. I've got access to a 20 gallon (old aquarium, more width than height ), or I could wait 'til next spring and get a vertical enclosure. I'm really interested in having more of a terrarium, with a water feature and I'm not sure which animal would prefer space-wise.
I went to a Petco today to get dog food and for my mother to pick out some fish. When I took a little stroll past the reptile enclosures, I noticed that the humidity was WAY too low in almost all of them. It's not hard to tell because the cheap meters they use say "Desert," "Moderate," and "Tropical" right on them. Frogs, snakes, geckos, chameleons, ALL in enclosures with the meters reading "Desert"!!! I saw a crested gecko that looked completely desiccated and I thought for sure it was dead. It was lying there looking all grayish brown with a pasty white stripe running down its back and it was completely still and VERY thin. There was a baby albino king snake whose enclosure was at about 20% humidity. I went to the front of the store (even obnoxiously cutting the line in my high-urgency and wholly annoyed state) and immediately told them that all of their reptiles are going to die. Of course I knew this wasn't true for the beardies or the one little tortoise they had, but I wanted to make the point. A guy came over and started manually misting all the enclosures and HE was mad too saying, "Oh, dude, they're supposed to do this when we open!" (This was about 4pm). Interestingly, within a couple of minutes the "dead" gecko started moving very slowly and immediately went to licking droplets off the surface of an artificial branch. Do you think it'll make it?! Anyway, I don't even own a reptile yet, but, thanks to being an avid viewer of your content, I recognized what was going on and intervened. YOU saved all those critters at that Petco today. Thanks, Clint! I don't know if it'll make much difference in the big scheme of things, but I suppose I could call their corporate office too.
I have a Midland Painted Turtle and she is great! Originally named her Gamera but my mom can't remember that name and just called her Baby Turtle, so now she's Baby Turtle now.
My little guy was found in the local mall abandoned in a 5 gallon tank at 2 inches in November. Now he's over 3 inches long, and in a 40 gallon planted tank.
I have a midland turtle that swims up close everytime I come near. He swims around looking up at me when I talk to it. I like picking up my turtles and am getting him use to me.
Seems to have some missing claws (see 5:25 or so, two on it's left front, one on it's right front) is this a problem? I know nothing about turtles, maybe it's common.
They are very hardy, my midland painted turtle was kept in a ten gallon tank for five years, he had about an inch or two of water, a crappy filter, a wet dock, no uv lights, and when I got him he had sores and skin issues, along with his mbd and pyramiding.
My fave pond turtle growing up. Midland painted turtles got me into the aquarium hobby. It’s too bad you can’t keep them legally in Ontario since the numbers in the wild are not doing well. I still want another one though.
Thank you so much! Consistency is a high priority for us. We're creating a library that can be used as a tool. We hope every video is as valuable as the last.
Please do a video on one of the giant island tortoises such as Aldabran tortoises and Galapagos Tortoises. I don't think it's legal to keep them, but it'll be interesting to learn about them.
I love your channel so much Clint, you are so educated on all kinds of animals, you really helped educate me on my snapping turtle in your other video thanks so much
I love these turtles, I have a male midland painted turtle with mbd and pyramiding, (I run a rescue.) and I have a very special turtle, it's dad was a southern painted turtle, and it's mom was a midland painted turtle, dad was a released pet, this little guy came to me because he was bitten by a softshell turtle and was going to die, but after a month of twice a day treatments, he's better, all that's left are scars, unfortunately he needs to be kept in super clean water with tannin rich waters, if not his shell starts to act up.
Mr Clint please do a video on American toads or a similar type of toad. I have a Gulf Coast Toad and they're an incredibly nifty little species of frog but they're not very popular at all and it's a big shame!! They're easy to care for, very tame when raised up from their toadlet stage and very hardy for amphibians. In areas where human development encroached on toads natural habitats, gc toads adapted to this instead of being pushed out of their habitat, thriving in cracks and gutters that other wildlife couldn't survive in. They're super cool!!
I usually help them across the road in southern Wisconsin. But I did come across one that seemed different from the 50 or so I’ve helped so I had to bring it to the pond at home.
The only time I have been bitten by a turtle is when I was trying to hand feed my red eared slider and it got a little too close to my fingers, but it barely nipped me. I was fine.
I believe that the 4 inch rule was to stop turtles being sold which were small enough to fit in a child's mouth and so reduce the amount of reptile associated salmonellosis which was a problem at the time. I think that the problem with that rule is that it encourages sellers to stock animals which can be raised up to 4" cheap, like sliders, and not animals with a more manageable adult size which would take a few years to raise up to the minimum 4".
I hope people start promoting Southern Painted turtles more since they’re one of the smaller species. People can give them such a better quality of life compared to the popular RES :/ Please make a video about them
Beautiful turtles, I'd love to see you do a video on musk turtles (common and razorback)! They're my personal favorite, and in my opinion the best beginner turtle due to their small size.
Yep, just googled it... At least as of May 2019, Stallone's turtles were still happy and healthy. Which is really cool.

Hey Clint love your videos and here’s two new video ideas
Hermit crab the best pet invertebrate?
Halloween Moon Crab the best pet invertebrate?
I have a Midland Painted Turtle and she is great! Originally named her Gamera but my mom can't remember that name and just called her Baby Turtle, so now she's Baby Turtle now.
So awesome!!!!!! Those little creatures are so cute!!!!! 🐢
My little guy was found in the local mall abandoned in a 5 gallon tank at 2 inches in November. Now he's over 3 inches long, and in a 40 gallon planted tank.
Clint! Will you do a video on green keel-bellied lizards? They're so underrated and have super manageable care. Handling is definitely a 1/5 though.
I love your vids!! I wanted a painted turtle for so long but now I got a musk turtle!😁😁😁
Naw it is a problem I just now saw that
They are very hardy, my midland painted turtle was kept in a ten gallon tank for five years, he had about an inch or two of water, a crappy filter, a wet dock, no uv lights, and when I got him he had sores and skin issues, along with his mbd and pyramiding.
My fave pond turtle growing up. Midland painted turtles got me into the aquarium hobby. It’s too bad you can’t keep them legally in Ontario since the numbers in the wild are not doing well. I still want another one though.
Painteds are such great turtles. I have my girl in a 90 gallon with a few basking areas and probably 70 gallons of water total.
Clint, my friend, the consistency of greatness with these videos is unparalleled. Also, painted turtles are stinking rad!
This is one of the best parts of my week thanks for being totally rad clint. Edit spelling
I'm so glad to hear we can brighten up your week :)
Yay finally another turtle video! :D
is the hardiness 5/5 in only western painted turtle or all painted turtles?
I wanted to know about keeping one in my aquarium, knew you’d have a video for me 🫡
Loving this channel, so happy I found it by accident, prob because gxxgle heard me talking about my Turts!
I love your channel so much Clint, you are so educated on all kinds of animals, you really helped educate me on my snapping turtle in your other video thanks so much
I'm so glad we could help :)
Hey Clint, where did you get that clear tank in the video? I've been looking for something similar to temporarily put my turtle in
Mr Clint please do a video on American toads or a similar type of toad.
Do _Coleonyx_ geckos as a whole make good pets? I would like to get either _C. mitratus_ or _C. variegatus_
Clint: after the list of patrons you'll see bloopers
Also Clint: for the first time ever plays bloopers alongside the list of patrons 😂😂😂
I usually help them across the road in southern Wisconsin. But I did come across one that seemed different from the 50 or so I’ve helped so I had to bring it to the pond at home.
Hey Clint, any chance you could make one of these videos for African Sideneck Turtles? In my area the pet stores only seem to carry African Sidenecks
It’s only the morning, but I can safely say that Stallone/Yogi Bear impression at the end made my day! 😂
What a gorgeous animal.
Lil red swim boi nice vid!!
Indeed. Thank you!
Aww I have a southern and soon to get a western! So great you did this video
The only time I have been bitten by a turtle is when I was trying to hand feed my red eared slider and it got a little too close to my fingers, but it barely nipped me. I was fine.
I got a western painted turtle a few months ago, nice to see mine is different 🙃 i also got a map turtle 🐢
If you have a Grammostola pulchra (Brazillian black tarantula) can you make a video about it
I hope people start promoting Southern Painted turtles more since they’re one of the smaller species. People can give them such a better quality of life compared to the popular RES :/
Please make a video about them
They are very cool. Especially the dorsal stripe.
Good job never getting bit by a turtle. I got bit hand feeding strawberries to a box turtle. It hurt, they got strong sharp little beaks lol
Beautiful turtles, I'd love to see you do a video on musk turtles (common and razorback)! They're my personal favorite, and in my opinion the best beginner turtle due to their small size.
