  • Join me as I share a day in the life of working and traveling in my Go Pod micro touring caravan.
    With the freedom to work remotely, needing just my laptop and Wi-Fi, I've embraced a lifestyle that allows me to explore new places while staying on top of my professional commitments.
    While still having a home base, I've taken advantage of the incredible flexibility offered by my caravan to embark on a near full-time adventure. And in this video, I'll show you exactly how I strike the balance between work and travel.

    Hi Roseanna. A coincidence. I was on the Haltwhistle site when you were, my folding camper is just out of site in your video! Anyway I saw your pod and thought it would be ideal for me as I always go alone. The folding camper is getting to be hard work at my age and I really need something I can set up and decamp quicker. Several months on, after much research, I'm now the proud owner of a 2023 Go Pod Plus!

    - Hotel Inspector (specialist category, dog friendly campsites)

    - Waterfall Chaser (think along the lines of the ‘96 blockbuster movie, Twister)

I was so pleased to find your videos 🙂 I came to speak to you at the campsite in Rosemarkie with my greyhound, because my husband and I were there with our Go Pod too 😁 You were kind enough to explain about your work and travels, so it's lovely to find out about your trips in more detail. Our Pod has his winter ' jacket ' on now, but I say roll on next Spring, and happy Podding for all of us next year ! 😃 Very best wishes to you and Winston, Allison x

      Hello! Lovely to hear from you. I hope you had a lovely time at Rosemarkie. We got home from our trip at the beginning of October and I wrapped our pod up un her winter pyjamas also. However, I quickly got fed up of being at home so we've booked a trip to a local campsite for later this month to see how we feel about winter touring. If all goes okay, then we're going to keep travelling through winter. But it all depends on how well I can cope with the weather! 😅

    Nice to see the Go-Pod in every day use. I've been obsessing about the possibility of getting one for some time now, but I've never seen one in the flesh so to speak. Like yourself I'm a slim build, but I'm 6ft tall. I imagine head room would be a real issue for me.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Год назад +1

      I’m 5’7” and I can only stand up in the pod when the pop top is up, otherwise I have to hunch over. I think that the total head room is 6’3” so you should be able to stand up. Sleeping may be a problem though. I often sleep in the middle with my feet slightly over the edge of the bed, or I sleep diagonally. Alternatively, you could sleep with your head at the edge of the bed and your feet by the window. Hope that helps! If you follow GoPod on Facebook, they always announce which caravan shows they are going to, so maybe you could find a local one and go and check it out 👍🏼

    I noticed you made a comment regarding reversing your pod around a corner. now you may already know this via your towing course so apologies in advance, but just incase; a good easy tip to remember when backing up around a corner is to keep watch in both door mirrors and when the 'van starts to stray off course in either left or right mirror, just nice and gently steer that way to correct and bring the 'van back in a straight line.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much for the tip. I was very good at reversing the caravan on my towing course, but I do sometimes struggle with the pod. I've been told that it's more difficult with the pod since it's smaller. I ideally need to take her somewhere where I can just practice reversing as I've only done it on campsites (with the added pressure of everyone watching! 😅)
      Thanks so much again!

      That's right, a longer trailor is easier to maintain a straight line; heavier, longer with better balance. On sites people are a bit nosey in a friendly way. Some day on arrival I'd love to don large sunglasses, fumble my way out the driver side tapping away furiously with my white stick saying out loud to the wife "well you did a good job telling me which direction to steer and when to brake dear"

      Hey. I only got my Pod in March 2023, so I've been bobbing about the country since then. We went to 22 places last year and we hope to top that figure this year. But, I don't live like that full-time. I still have a home that I go back to. I just get to go away in my caravan more often than the normal person because I can work while I'm away. The campsites can get expensive (especially now, all the prices seem to be going up), but there are still a few deals to be found. Having the ability to go off grid would make things a lot cheaper, but then you've got to find a safe place to park every night, so swings and roundabout. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  9 месяцев назад +1

      Probably 10-min to convert it into a bed, and 20-minutes to convert it back to a living room. It takes a bit longer for me when converting it into a living room as that's when I do my daily clean. If I didn't have so many blankets to faff with (and just a simple duvet), I could probably convert it both ways in a matter of minutes.

      The campsite costs vary a lot! I need an electric hook up and showers, so that makes it a bit more expensive. Some have been as little as £10 per night, others can be as £35+ per night. I try to aim for a full facility site with hook up for £20 - if I get that, then I'm happy.

    Thanks for your videos, we have a trailer tent as of this year and came across a Go Pod at a campsite a few months back and had a brief look.
    We're thinking this would be better for touring about Europe and easier than the trailer tent. Do you think it would be practical for two of us and a dog, a medium sized Cockapoo?
    We would probably add an awning for anything more than a night or two if weather was iffy. Otherwise a tarp like you use,
    We love Winston, such a happy boy.
    We have a late night short walk ritual with our dog too which we call wee walkies, I like the double meaning.
    Happy adventures 😀

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  Год назад +2

      Hello! A Go Pod would be suitable. It is made for two people and a lot of podders do travel with a dog. But there are a couple of things to note:
      1. If there are two people in the pod, then you can only stand up one at a time. The other person will have to stay seated (or laid down if in bed). It’s very crowded with two adults stood in the small area under the pop top.
      2. There isn’t an awning that fits the pod perfectly. You can put an awning on the back, but you’re not going to get a tight seal and you need to get a bit creative. There is an awning rail above the door, it’s just the sides that you need to pin down somehow. (Check out the Facebook Group “Go Pod Owners (Go PodPals)” to see other people’s solutions to this.
      3. It does take some getting use to moving about in a small space. Winston and I now have our own little routine so we don’t get in each others way, but just note that for the first few days you may be stepping on each other.
      I hope that helps! Best of luck with your adventures! X

      At the moment, I'm just using my phone's hotspot. I buy an unlimited data package and use my 4G. This seems to work okay for most of the UK, however I did struggle a bit when I was in the Scottish Highlands, so I am thinking of getting a signal booster.

      Dogs get lungworm by eating larvae found in infected snails, slugs or frogs. It is very unlikely that Winston would eat one of those in the first place as he is a very fussy eater and just sniffs out his biscuits. However, should he accidentally ingest an infected one, then Winston is protected by his quarterly worming tablet which covers lungworm. In 11 years, I've not had a problem. 👍🏼

      My Nemo can tow up to 1000kg and the Go Pod has a maximum weight of 750kg. Therefore, the Nemo manages it comfortably. You need the check the maximum towing specifications of your vehicle, it will tell you how much weight your car can tow.

    Hi!
    How do you find towing it!
    (Dare i say it a lady driver).
    Does it wobble? Tricky to reverse?

      It’s the first (and only) thing Ive ever towed and I find it okay. Because it’s not very wide, I know that if my van will fit through a gap, then the caravan will too. It does sometimes get a bit bouncy, especially if the caravan is empty and very light, but it’s never wobbled or snaked. Reversing wise; I can reverse it easily in a straight line, but struggle around bends when I lose sight of the wheels. Also, because it so short, it reacts very quickly to any movement of the steaming wheel. Sometimes, I just get it close to where I want it to be, unhitch and push it the rest of the way or use the motor mover. Hope that helps.

    Mmmm not sure about spreading the food on the ground on your pitch….bit of a rodent/pest risk. I know spaniels are food magnets but still……

      They're dog biscuits and he sniffs them all out. And even if he misses one or two, I'm hardly going to start the next plague 😂😂
