Testing My Go-Pod Micro-Caravan in Freezing Weather | VLOG 1

- This is my first winter with my Going Go-Pod. I originally planned to stay at home through winter and not tour again until early spring next year. But, since I get fed up with being at home for too long, and the pod has heating, I thought that I would take it out on a winter testing trip to see if we wanted to keep touring through the winter months. Here's how it went.
00:00 Introduction

Don't forget the old tried and trusted hot water bottle! Off topic, I love the way Winston canters off ahead, looks around as if to say "you still there mum?". Lovely boy.
For some reason, I even thought of a hot water bottle 🙈 ...although Winston is a great furry version of one at bed time 😅 Thanks so much for watching 👍🏼
I still use my HW bottle in the winter at home,
Best thing ever is just camping alone with your dog 🐕
I agree! 👍🏼
I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm retired and caravan all year around mostly in the lake district and Scotland. Just me and my small dog. I mostly use the CCC club sites which are ideal for solo campers . No need to book in advance at this time of year either so I keep an eye on the weather forecast and when a decent spell comes up I go for it. Enjoyed the video.
Yes, I've mainly used CCC sites so far. Although, I don't like going to the same site twice and I'm running it out od club sites, so I think I'm going to have to join the CAMC. We're off to the Lakes next week :)
Thanks for watching and commenting x
@@Roz.S Thank you for your lovely video. I am retired too and would love to do this! How much do they charge per night off season please? Thanks x
@@jayb429 It all varies depending on the time of year you do, what type of pitch you want, if you want an electric hook-up, etc. Here's the website link to the Camping and Caravanning Club. You can have a look at the different prices. Hope that helps. www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/

Came for the spaniel, stayed for the camping. ❤
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I love your comment at 08:03, after a career working for the NHS I no longer like people, preferring to spend time with my puppy. Thank you for this video ❤
This little video was just what I needed today, the world seems to be heading for oblivion, and this wholesome post just cheered me right up.
Might invest in a pod! 😊
Glad I could help! I try to escape regularly in my pod; I find peace in my solitude and in nature. And, of course, my dog helps 😅 Hope your day gets better.
You're great, but your Winston is the star!
He is the star of the show 😍🐶 Best dog ever!
Thanks for watching.
So glad that you eat straight out of the pan to save washing 😅 that means I'm not a total slob when I do that!
Do it all the time 😂 Seems silly to put it into a bowl when it's just me.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
What’s not to like about this? Camping in winter, dogs and walks in the woods, perfect. Thanks for taking the time to post. Long may your adventures continue. 👍
It was a much better trip then I expected it to be. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hello!! Ah man, we need to have these Go-Pods here in the States (usa). You are so lucky to have them in the U.K. Thanks for sharing!! Love and blessings, and Be safe out there.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Do you have any micro-caravans in the states? 🤔
@Roz.S I'm not sure, but I think our "teardrop" towables would qualify. Also, there are some more squared off models that are compact, but they are not listed as "mini" -- think we might have a size complex or something over here...maybe?😅
Heating Insulated Wrap All ...Beautiful Camper Great Scenery. Beautiful Precious Winston God Bless You. Thank You For Video. ❤
You're more than welcome. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Not having a good time at the movement and it may last for a while. Your video is so positive and personal. I am a caravanner myself and can relate to your thoughts completely. Was planning a winter camping trip this winter for 3 months (home officing as well) but had to cancel it due to health issues of a very close family member. Thank you for shedding some sunrays into my life. Hope to see more videos of you and "Sir" Winston.
So glad I could help. I hope things pick up for your soon. Thanks for watching and commenting.
P.S. Winston's full nickname is "Mr Winston Wiggle-pants III" 😅
First time watching one of your vids, Winston is just the cutest little pooch 😊
He's an adorable little old man! Best travel buddy ever. (He's currently asleep on my lap)
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I just found your channel. You're a very brave young woman, and I admire your outlook on life.
Thank you so much! Appreciate you watching and commenting.
It looks so nice and peaceful there. Love that Winston brings his bone for the morning walk!
I enjoyed the peace and quiet. Although I think that has more to do with the time of year. I'm assuming that the campsite will be busier in the summer months.
And Winston loves his bone! He's got two of them (he used to have one, then lost it, so I bought him another, and then we found the lost one 😅 )
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Love your humor, humility and presentation
Thank you very much! It's much appreciated.
I am sure the shouting van man was just shouting encouragement and support for a woman and her dog going camping in the winter. People are great. 🙂
You may be right, and those swear words were just for added umph! 😅😅
Tbh, I don't blame him. I probably would have done the same if someone had pulled out on me 😅
When I go away with my caravan I am always really warm as I put up a small tent by caravan and sleep and stay in that. I can’t remember being in the caravan in the last 30 years actually. 😊😊
Aww..Winston. Adorable pooch
He's the best! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for your camping videos. I have thought about doing that with my cat. Take care from Pennsylvania.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
That's one happy pupper! It's like his tail is a wind-up that propels him down the trail! Thanks for that video of the autumn colors... So beautiful. It's February now just outside of Chicago and very colorless. Happy trails!
I do call his tail his propeller because it seems to power him 😂😂 Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed our video.
Very good. The pod is like 5 star luxury compared to the people that do wild camping in a one man tent. Having a van is also better than a car as you can get more stuff in. Finally-loved the dog.Lol.
I did the tent thing for a bit; the caravan is wayyyy better and makes life much easier!! 😅 Thanks for watching and commenting.
Love just going for a walking around the forest as it just 15 minutes for my home
It’s a beautiful place to get lost in 😇
Thanks for watching my video
Lovely video, as an almost 60yr old, caravanned for many years , it’s shocking how heavy caravans have become. My last van was 1120kg fully laden - six berth Elddis. Previous was an old 5 berth, about 900kg fully laden. In your small van a 500kw oil filled radiator would supply enough heat safely to keep the winter chill off during the night.
Thank you very much for the tip! My little pod is a 2-berth with a MTPLM of 750kg - just a bit less than your 5 berth! 😱
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I *love* oil filled radiators!
The heat is so consistent and thoroughly adjustable!
Mine have 3 power draw settings: 500W, 700W & 1200W with adjustable heat levels within each setting.
They are so economical that I turn off the main heat in the spare rooms, set them to 500W and use them to maintain a minimal warmth level during our New England winter!
It saves on furnace fuel big time!
Hi, I'm a first time viewer to your channel, it's so refreshing to watch you and your cute dog Winston especially on dull rainy days like these, i enjoy the autumn scenery, the different colours and the walks you go on, great content, brilliant to watch. 😊❤️
Thank you very much. That was my first vlog (second one coming soon) so it's very much appreciated.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I love how the pod is remote control...love how you and Winston had a great time😊
It’s cool! It’s called a motor mover and it’s one of my favourite features!
Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
It was very honest of you to share the van incident, it's a easy mistake but I expect that it's burnt into your memory.
I'm sure that you will bear in mind that you have a caravan on the back in future.
When I was an apprentice I made a mistake that I was annoyed with myself over and a older colleague said to me that anyone that hasn't made a mistake hasn't made anything.
That made me feel a little bit better.
I was so annoyed at myself when I made that mistake; it was totally my fault. The most frustrating thing about it was that I couldn't apologise to the other driver, I just had to drive off. But as you say, lesson learnt, and I've not done it since.
Thanks for watching my video and commenting.
Great video Roseanna. That seemed like a pretty successful test and the campsite was really nice. 🙂
The test went great 👍🏼 A few little tweaks to make but I’m sure we can handle winter touring. We’re off on our next adventure in a few days. Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
When you have hook up it's just like being home
I wish I had the ability and gear to do this. Oh and the job for it too 😄
Thanks for sharing your experience
Great video, we have a pod and love it when it's cold outside and we are cosy inside.
I enjoyed that feeling too. And since the pod is so small, it heats up really quickly. 👍
Thanks for watching and commenting x
Don’t worry, we all make driving mistakes especially when towing aswell. Lol Lovely caravan you have. Enjoyed the vid.
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this. Winter camping can be great fun and you really made the most of it! I know exactly what you mean about needing a good hand cream - my hands get trashed at this time of year.
YES! Hand cream sounds like such a small thing, but having dry and cracked fingers is no fun at all!
Thanks for watching and commenting x
Could yry body shop hemp hand cream . Absorbs fast , non greasy n I find it the best for winter when my hands crack . Game changer
@@annettesturgess5400 Thanks for the tip! :)
Really enjoyed the video you're little dog is sooooo happy 💖🤗💖🐕🐾🐾xxxx

I'm 70 now but used to summer camp so am enjoying this and will subscribe. I have a b&w springer, Angus. I love the way they are 100% enthusiastic!! One of my dog walking friends said if ever he stops wagging his tail get him to the vets!! We live in the Forest of Dean so luckily have the forest literally 50m away. Thank you. Nana Karen UK

Great video, top lady , cute dog!
You are so kind. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Just a little tip. You should aways try to lift up the back of the van off it's suspension, a couple of inches, and confirm the rise, with a vertical object, placed on the floor, next to your van rear, as a datum, after you have hitched up, with the jockey wheel raiser, to ensure 100%, that it is locked on to the ball and attach the breakaway cable afterwards, before you stow the jocky wheel.
Yes, great tip! I was also told to do this when I done my caravan course. I do it most times, but admittedly I sometimes forget! 🙈
I didn't note that you hadn't lifted the hitch handle forward thus triggering the red/green indicator on the hitch to the green mode. I can't imagine you missed this, guess you were more concentrating on the video production and double checked before you departed. Not a criticism, just a concern @@Roz.S 👍
@@jontremaine1 As the hitch goes onto the ball, the red indicator pops up and turns green. I check this every single time. What I should have done then (but didn't) was to wind the jockey wheel the other way and watch for the rear of the car lifting to make double-sure that the hitch was attached. I do this most times, but I admittedly do forget sometimes (like on this occasion). So, I do need to get better at remembering. Thank you so much for commenting; there's no such thing as being too safe. :)
@@Roz.S I use to sell caravans, it’s really important as you will be aware. The first anyone knows about making this mistake is when their caravan over takes them when you brake your vehicle!!! Dangerous
@@jontremaine1 Guess they didn't attach the breakaway either if their caravan overtakes them.
I’m enjoying your Go-Pod content very much, the caravan is an intriguing proposition although I’m 6’ 4” so probably too tall for it. You’ve detailed your recreation and work life in it very well and the van and caravan together look like they were made for each other. Eagerly anticipating your new content.
Thank you very much. At 6'4'', you may not be able to stand up fully, even in the pop-top area. A 6'3'' friend of mine only just fit inside. And you'd definitely have to hang your feet out over the end of the bed 😅
We're currently wrapping up a trip in the Lake District, and I will be editing the vlog as soon as I get home.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Gotta say I love Winston, what a lovely little chap! I have two border terriers they keep me busy as you can imagine. Love your pod too, I may consider getting one!
Winston is great, although I'm glad i only have one of him. I don't know how you manage two! 🙈

@@Roz.S pleasure, I love everything about Cumbria, the scenery and the things to do, not to mention the lack of people, that is in the off season! I’m like you in that respect I don’t like crowds, nothing is more loyal and friendly than the four legged friends and that’s why I have two dog they both keep each other entertained and friendly with one another but they are great company for me! Don’t get me wrong I have a big friend base but I do love my dogs more, they don’t answer back, if that makes sense!! Keep up with the vlogs I love them!
Great video well done
Thanks so much.
Good trip. We used to use an old coat to cover our water. You can run your water pipe through one of the arms. Use a bungee to stop it getting blown away.
Thanks so much for the tip! I'm going to use my old sleeping bag with some bungee cords. Pretty much the same as an old coat, but I don't have an old coat (yet!) ...although the sleeve thing is genius!!
I feel/mean you should never doubt about your choices of not finishing an education, not having a stable job. Just look, feel, think what you’ve got, compared to other people. Do you feel you miss anything in life? Don’t you have the most gorgeous and funny friend, Winston, in your life? Do you miss being a millionare? Do you miss millions when seeing your Winston running with his «propelling tail», full of love and life? Is it better to let other people telling you what you have to do? I hope not. I myself, just love to see a young lady like you enjoying life, in YOUR own way. You learn a lot more in the way you’re living, than the easy and A4 life. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️♥️♥️ Love to see your videos, with the most lovely dog I’ve ever seen. I hope to see, and learn a lot more from you and Winston in the furture. 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Thank you so much for such a lovely comments. And yes, you are right; I'm enjoying life and I don't miss any of those things. Glad to hear that you enjoy our videos. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Excellent video🥰❤️
I’m glad I watched your video because I have a 2023 Nissan rogue and it only pulls 1200 pounds. So I may get a pod for myself around 800 pounds. I am 5 foot five.
Thanks for watching, but1200 pounds is only 544kg. To get a Pod, your car would need to be able to tow 750kg, which is about 1655 pounds.
Just found you on suggested...great channel..." Winston in the bed " funny 😂... watching from Tolox Andalucia/ Spain...not sure about people either 🙄....go camping a lot...it really is beautiful...highly recommended...never ever any frozen water...your caravan is really interesting...great watch thank you 👍

I love that pod and that dog! Love the way his tail goes in circles, he seems so happy. It’s a lovely life for him . ❤❤ I wish I was brave enough to tow, I’m 4ft 9” and that looks perfect for me.
I call Winston's tail his "propeller." It's what helps to power him. 😅
I went on a towing course before getting my caravan and that helped loads. If you're in the UK, you could go to one of the caravan shows, they sometimes have a 'try towing' experience where you can drive one around and see how you feel. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That sounds great , I didn't know that they did a towing course, that's put my mind at rest as I too am thinking of buying a tiny caravan, why did you by one without a bathroom ? Was it to keep the caravan as small as poss 😏 that's what I am deliberating on ?
@@tracker1009 My small van has a maximum towing weight of 1000kg, which limited what caravans I could safely tow. There are a couple of caravans with bathrooms that have a max weight of 995kg, but that was too close to my van's limit, and it wouldn't make for a safe towing match. So, I ended up with a Go Pod which has a max weight of 750kg. I'll probably upgrade to a bigger caravan in a few years, but I would have to change my van for a more substantial towing vehicle. I love my little van, and I'm not ready to get rid of her yet. I highly recommend going on a towing course first. I did a 1-day course, and I learned so much and felt so much more confident when I got my caravan. Hope that helps.
Just found your video, you left just before the weather changed. I arrived on the Saturday , on the same pitch as you vacated, the clouds followed me down. My friends were on the next pitch to you in their caravan, with the old sleeping bag round the water container, we had our first taste of snow that night . Low clouds and mist until Wednesday before the winds came ! The Pod seems a nice unit for you both, everything you need and not a lot to store at home. Delamere is a place I stay at 3 or 4 times a year great site , apart from the potholes on the roads ! Carry on with your adventures. and I will follow your trips to places I have not been to.
Ahh small world! Yes the pot holes at Delamere were really something else. Some of them probably could have eaten my pod whole 😂 I was very lucky with the weather. I don't live far away and noticed the weather change as soon as I got home.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Another little tip for you. If you don't get any insulated bags for your water container try a old winter jacket you don't use anymore and for your water pump try some pipe lagging to stop it freezing.
Great idea!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Lovely quality of life . These vans are a lot cheaper than a vw California for my retirement . Great vid.
Yes, caravans are much cheaper because you're not paying for an engine, but you do still need another vehicle to tow it with 👍🏼 Luckily, the Pods can be towed by a lot of vehicles since they're so light, so you don't need a big SUV or pick up 👍🏼
@@Roz.S thanks , the additional awning you used on your Brecon Beacons trip looks like a superb set up for longer stays. Definitely a more affordable and realistic option for me to enjoy the outdoors as opposed to a camper van which are massive money .
A 12v matress pad is a game changer. Ex pat here living in calgary alberta and my dog and I were camping in a motorhome in a snowy minus 35c last winter. The peace of winter camping is magical and a completely different experience. We also used a mr buddy heater for extra coziness in day. The moisture isn't too bad especially if you use a small humidifier if it becomes an issue. Camp on!! 😊
-35C is HARDCORE! We've been kept toasty warm thanks to the heating, and I have a couple of dehumidifier boxes in the pod to absorb some of the moisture. But yes, I love the peace of camping at this time of year.

How utterly lovely. Looked so cosy. Try 'O'Keefes Working Hands' hand cream, it's amazing and you can use an old padded work coat for your water or pipe lagging. We use caravan all year round.x

Husband and I have an older Conversion Van for camping and quick adventuring/outings. We bought a 12V headed throw. Many long distance truckers use them in their cabs. It's not large 60X40 inches but it works great and you can lay your clothes on top of it to heat them each morning before getting dressed, that's such an added luxury 😀. For temps below freezing we pack in our water for all our uses and drain the main lines to avoid any problems freezing. Three 2Gallon Water jugs is plenty for the two us us for a few nights stay. After doing it, it becomes commonplace and we rarely drink water that we don't pack in ourselves. Same for our two dogs. Hope the tips are helpful to you and your cute dog.
Thank you so much for the tips! Warm clothes to put on in the morning sounds lovely :)

That small heater is brilliant it’s safe to keep it on all night as it cuts off itself if tipped over.❤
I love that little heater! I used it all through the winter to give a boost to the caravan heating. It worked fabulous! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Recently subscribed to your channel and absolutely love it. Winston is adorable and a great companion for you. I’ve recently bought an Elddis 302 xplore to get away on weekends with my wife and our 3 yr old miniature schnauzer. 💪💪💪❤️❤️
I had a quick Look at those caravans. Too heavy for my little van but great caravans. Wishing you lots of happy adventures!! Thanks for subscribing and watching our videos.
Thermostat plug 👍 I have the same kampa heater and use this to control the temperature during the night in my camper!
It's not a Kampa heater. I tried getting a Kampa one but they were out of stock. The one I've got is from Amazon, but I think it's pretty much the same. Either way, your idea is genius. Thanks so much!
OMG I was shouting ‘Don’t do it’ when you were on the ice!!
Haha I'm not brave enough to go too far out 😅

Amazing video. Found your channel and thought that's an amazing little camping pod that's just what I'm after. I think with some extra additional heater ducting on the heater and a few more vents it will certainly help the heater give out a more even heat especially when the bed is made up. Safe travels. 👍
Thanks so much! I love my little Go-Pod. It's not everyone since it is so small, and it does take some getting use to, but I'm enjoying it so far. Thanks for watching and commenting x
@@Roz.S You're welcome. Thank-you for taking the time to respond . x
My first watch, really well presented and put together video. Looks cozy once the pod is warmed up, I'd have to pack a tiny bottle of brandy...just to keep the cold out 😅
not really a drinker myself, but I would have enjoyed a Bailey's coffee. Thanks for watching and commenting.
We do winter camping in our Campervan, lovely and warm with the heating on and bracing walks with our dog in the cold air. We often go to Castleton in the Peak District, just before Christmas. I think we’ve done part of that Delamere Forest walk, when we were staying at Chester in our van.
I'm enjoying winter touring much more than I thought I would. Lovely and warm in the pod, and then as you say, lovely walks in the cold air. Plus, the campsites are very quiet.

Something like a split Pool Noodle to insulate your your pipes could be a good idea. You could even clip them to the rims of some of your boxes in the van, when not in use. Or around the roof rack.
Great tip. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
First time here and found that really nice - good luck with the channel🙂.
And a spaniel!

Glad you know what that plane is, because i didn't 😅 I think we've all made bad decisions, we're only human. Just gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Winston is going to be okay. He still needs a bit more time, but should be back to normal soon.
