    I had the exact same experience when we bought a 2012 6MT 92A Cayenne 3 years back with 100k miles on it. I changed the fluid 3 times immediately, and now I swap it out with every oil change. Been symptom free ever since, and am now at over 150k miles. There is a lengthy set of threads on 6speedonline and rennlist of people resurrecting their TC with a fluid swap.
    Interestingly enough, I heard that PCNA announced just last week an extended warranty on the transfer case for certain models.

      A manual transmission Cayenne has to be fun to drive! It too bad they just did make the fluid change a 30k service. We I have my first issues with the transfer case over 2 years ago there wasn’t a lot of info. Now there is definitely more out there about this. I’ll have to check into that extended warranty, first time I’m hearing about it. Thanks for watching, please consider subscribing.

      Just completed transmission flush, temperature monitoring is not an issue, in order to achieve a complete flush you got to connect your pump to cooler line otherwise you will only drain about 5 L and replacement 5 L will get contaminated with the rest of old fluid. Even if you do that 5 times you would still have old fluid circulating.

      If the color of the case is different than the transmission it probably was changed already. You could ask to dealer to check the history see if they have a record of it. Kevin, good stuff! I heard from one shop that “special machine” was needed to change the transfer case. In fact, when I took it to the shop they got really skittish and didn’t want to touch the thing! That’s when I took it to a Euro shop and they knew what to do...but they also referred to some machine. Your video makes this look straight forward....no machine. What’s the deal?

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  4 года назад +1

      I don’t know why they are referring to some machine. This is how you change the fluid per the factory manual. To replace the actual transfer case and the solenoid on it, you need a factory computer to do that. I’ve heard people replacing the transfer case and swapping the new solenoid for their old one and that worked fine for them. I have not tried that myself as mine hasn’t failed. Sorry I’m not better help but this the way per the manual for a fluid change.

May be a rhetorical question.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ron thanks for watching. There is a recall or extended warranty on that transfer case from what I understand. This is pretty recent. I would look into that before you do anything. I plan on heading to the dealer soon to get info on it. Getting back to the fluid. The oem is fine, its more expensive than the Ravenol I’ve had good luck with it so I continue to use it.

    Hello Kevin,
    I recently purchased a 2014 Porsche cayenne gts and I took it to the mechanic to have a major service on it. The mechanic said the car is fine and there is nothing wrong with it, especially regarding the transfer case. He said that the transfer case is working great. However, my transfer case has never been drain and refilled.
    I have been noticing weirds things happening in my car. Can you let me know if these issues are related to the transfer case?
    (in sport mode)
    -(manual Mode) While going 30/40mph, 1st and 2nd gear don't seem to add any power to the car and I would need to go to 3rd gear to accelerate the car. Is this normal?
    -(automatic mode) The gear change is really quick. 1st and 2nd gear change at 2000 rpm and I can not get to higher rpm unless I am in 7th or 8th gear.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  3 года назад +1

      Hi Bao congrats on your recent purchase. I would have the fluid changed in the transfer case. Its like buying an insurance policy. Especially cause it hasn't been serviced to your knowledge.
      I don't think what you describing is a transfer case issue usually when they are acting up they will have a skip and a slight jerking motion on acceleration and light throttle cruising.
      In automatic mode mine does shift quick usually around 2.5k rpm under normal driving and even under slight acceleration. These gears are short.
      I don' think if you're driving 30 to 40mph the computer would let you downshift to 1st. Second maybe. I have the V6 so I don't usually push it that hard above 4k. I'm usually in auto mode. I sit in a lot of traffic. I only see 1st and 2nd gears from a stop and through acceleration. After I get to third I'm usually there and higher most of the time. Just driving around you won't use 1st and 2nd usually. It doesn't sound like your transmission is acting abnormally but I would need to drive it to compare it to mine to be sure. These are pretty reliable transmission not many issues at all with them. I only found one tsb that is about a reprogram or possible ecu replacement released in 2013 but it doesn't list any symptoms. Good luck with your Cayenne I hope you enjoy driving it like I do mine.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  4 года назад

      There was no knocking, I would say more like a shake, much more subtle than a knock. You get a shutter like a miss fire but no codes or check engine light. it feels like the motor skipped for a sec. We could be talking about the same thing we just have a different way of describing it. If you have never serviced the transfer case I suggest having it done. It is very hard to diagnose these problems without the car. A knocking sounds could be many things and could be unsafe to drive if something feels like it is hitting the floor pan. You should have the vehicle inspected. Good Luck!

      Kevin’s European Garage thanks. I think I know what you mean. It’s especially noticeable when turning. It’s coming from the rear and similar to a car with a locked differential?

    • @spikerama

      @@BL-zs3pc The knocking sounds like it could be the drive shaft bearing support. When it goes, the shaft will bounce around and hit the under carriage when you accelerate. Theres a few options to fix and some pretty cheap and easy methods found on youtube. Once you remove the cover plate and look at it you will know if it's gone.

      I think the Macan transfer case is very similar if not the same. I know it uses the same fluid as the cayenne according to the ravenol website. If you are having similar issues which I have heard they do. This might work for you. Most people see an improvement front just one service. Trying it once might be enough to tell you if it’s working. If you try it lets us know I’m really curious. Good luck!

      Well if your is an 08 you are way out of that extended warranty. I would change it if least every other oil change so that could be around every 10k miles. To be safe. If you when you change it the second time and the colors looks good and there doesn’t look to be a lot of debris you could skip to 15k. But if it’s really dark and there debris in there when you change it. I would change it drive around for a couple hundred miles and do it again.

      Thanks for watching from Germany. The transmissions in these cars are really good not many problems. The transfer case can cause these issues. Have you tried changing the fluid. Here is the states Porsche has extended the warranty on these. I’m not sure if they have done that else where. If there is a warranty have them check it out. Is that the transmission fluid? transfer case I never heard that terminology before in a car.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  2 года назад

      It's definitely not transmission fluid. Because this car is all wheel drive it has a unit that hangs off the end of the transmission that distributes the power between the front and rear axles. Not all AWD cars have transfer cases though. Subaru's, Audi's, Porsche 911's come to mind. It depends on the layout of the drivetrain.

      No particular reason i had read that someone had good luck with Ravenol. I figured why not try and it solved my issues. I’ve kept on using it since. If Liqui-Moly has the same specs, it should work just the same. The main thing is to get the old contaminated fluid out if there.

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage Right on yeah I'm a new 958.1 turbo owner and I put LiquiMoly 75w90 in my transfer case a week ago. I wasn't thinking clearly as I realize now it needs "transfer case fluid" aka ATF, or fluid more like ATF than gear oil. *slaps forehead hard*. I just ran to the garage and swapped that 75w90 with some AMSOIL ATF I had brand new bottles of while I wait a few days for the RAVENOL fluid to show up. I figure the ATF in the transfer case has to be better than gear oil at least to hold me over for a few days. I am an idiot and hope the 75w90 in there for the past week or so didn't royally ruin anything in the long term. There weren't any sounds or issues with driving on the 75w90 but I prefer the correct fluid in the right places! lol

      These transfer cases have issue. Like grinding and bucking because the clutch discs get worn and contaminate the fluid. I was changing every 10k or so to make sure the fluid is always clean. Since I have done that I haven’t had issues. There is a warranty for them now call a Porsche Porsche with the vin for details and what coverage is left on that vehicle, should apply to all vehicles in the US.

The air suspension leaks but almost every car will leak at some point. I never looked into what happens with those because I have the regular coil suspension. The transfer case, flush that fluid and change it every other oil change after and that should help make it last.. I’m curious where are watching from?
