    In this video I talk about the fix for the transfer case in my 2013 Cayenne 958 92A VR6. This could also work for the Touareg and other VW/AUDI/Porsche cars.

    2013 Cayenne Turbo owner here, 40k miles, heard a weird sound while driving. About the same sound as driving over the expansion joints on a road. Anyway rotated the tires, looked into the carrier bearing, videoed it by strapping my phone to the tcase mount no problem there. Watched this first it got me thinking and then another video, ordered fluid on eBay for $32/qt changed my tcase fluid and it’s 100% gone. Thank you for the help.

    SOLVED MY CAYENNE STUTTERING PROBLEM!!!!Appreciate the video. I had a similar problem in my Cayenne 2011 base model. The transmission seem to be skipping or jumping under acceleration. It felt like a misfire but there were no codes found on OBD interrogation. Purchased two quarts of ravenol. The problem seemed to go away after one change. Now it runs very smoothly ,accelerates very well. No stutters or hesitation, I'm very happy! I did spray out the transfers case with break free and blow dry with compressed air prior to refill. Will post an update after a few hundred miles. Thanks again!👍

    Kevin. Thank you for this video. I've noticed my Cayenne (2016) was starting to shake a bit during acceleration (like going over speed bumps) under 40mph. I've changed the TC fluid once - the issue went away. A week later, I changed it again (it was much clearer) and now the car drives as new. I guess the number of fluid changes depends on the current condition of the TC and how contaminated the fluid is.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage

      Yes that’s what I have noticed. I just kept changing till it came out clean after driving around for a while. It’s been 10k since my last change. I plan on doing it again to see what the fluid looks like. I’m not having issues it’s just for curiosity.

      I would wait on changing the transfer case fluid. From what I understand Porsche has issued a recall. I don’t know if it is for all Cayennes all over the world or not. I would look into that or call the dealer before you do anything. If the recall doesn’t apply for where you live then I would definitely change the fluid.

  • @tracklife2540
    @tracklife2540 4 года назад +1

    I just did a change as well after the slightest indication this was happening. I bought the 1-owner car used and assumed the fluid had never been changed. Like everyone else, it was black as night. I sent a sample off to Blackstone labs and they came back with crazy off the charts wear across all metals. They could not say for sure if this was just "wear-in" since they did not have a large enough data set of the first change metal levels. Nonetheless, I will put another 5K miles on it and send another sample to them to compare the baseline. I think just changing over and over without getting some analysis done may be throwing good money after bad. Not a criticism, just an observation that without data, we are just making an educated guess. It is also well-documented that when Porsche does replacements, they also move the drain hose up to the engine bay to prevent fluid contamination.

    Do you think the warranty would cover the fluid change? Or would Porsche most likely want to replace the transfer case? Something tells me they will just change it out since they can't change the oil, run it for a few hundred miles, and repeat the process a few times till it's gone. And why should I care right, I get a brand new transfer case for free? Never mind, I just answered my own questions LOL.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  4 года назад

      Well I’ve gone about 15k since I have done all my flushes. From the feedback I’ve been getting and what I’ve heard from a couple Porsche techs say is that they try and drain it first and see what happens and go from there. I think that if you catch it soon enough and change the fluid you’ll be ok. Wait too long changing the fluid won’t help the damage might be too much. I think anyone who owns this car should change it every 30k. I bet if everyone did that this might not even be an issue. It’s one of those things the fluid isn’t too expensive and the labor Isn’t too much. Just change it. It’s like an insurance policy and changing often can’t hurt never changing will.

    Hi Kevin, I had this exact issue and did what you recommended. The existing oil came out full black, and at the 3rd change the oil came out pretty much light color. (I went through 3 new cases basically). The car felt much better after the 2nd change but the growling noise came back a little after. The 3rd time didnt make any change. Now my oil changes were about 2-3 weeks apart but I drive the car probably just 100-120 miles a week. So now Im still having the growling noise when making turns. Any issues you see with what I did? or any recommendations? Has yours totally quit the noise when turning? Thank you!

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  4 года назад +1

      I don't really see anything wrong with what you did. It might be one of those things depending on the condition of the transfer case before you started. How many miles? You might need to drive it around a little to get the oil circulating through the clutch pack. I went well over a few 100 miles before a drain and fill. Mine finally quieted down on the 4th drain and fill. I might hear a little whine on a sharp slow hard turn but its so infrequent that it doesn't bother me. My biggest issue was the bucking in a straight line, its been almost 10k since my last change. I was going to drain it at my next engine oil change to see how the oil looks. My first drain was done around 70k. I would drive it for a while and see what happens.

    Let me say first I was about to type something about this being bullshit, then I saw all the comments... holy shit, nice one
    But then, still, does anyone have an explanation? A hypothesis? A theory on what's going on and how come this actually fixes anything?

    Disappointed that porsche used tcase and diffs with such low fluid capacity. They are known to over design everything but yet each is only 1 qt capacity. Come on guys, ny toyota 4runner has bigger tcase and diffs with much lower hp and torque

    Went to the dealer, Porsche extended the warranty on the transfer case to 10 Years. It will get replaced. Otherwise it’s a $8K job.

    dealers offer 10 year extended warranties on the transfer case. your fix maybe is great for something more than 10 years old but less than that go get a new one for FREE!!!!!
