Another good thing about any Porsche is that if you take good care of it, it can last almost forever. I have a Cayenne Turbo that I bought in 2003. The engine still works fine after 160,000 miles. And after replacing some plastic parts on the body, it looks almost looks like a new car.
@@Illiterate243 It is not cheap to maintain. I probably spend about $2000 per year. If you buy a used cayenne, the biggest thing to check is the transmission, because the transmission isn't easily repaired, and replacing it is really expensive. And of course, be ready to buy a lot of gas, because it only gets around 10 miles/gallon.
I have a 2016 Cayenne diesel and before that, a BMW X5 diesel. I love my Cayenne and have to agree with this video describing how much fun it is to drive. The seats are fantastic! Yes, get the air suspension if possible. It will then go from a terrific highway cruiser to the best handling SUV there is. The X5 was OK but was disappointed by the build quality and reliability. One thing you have to remember about the diesels is that if you drive around town most of the time, every once in a while you must get out on the open road an cruise for about 50 miles to burn out (clean) the particulate filter. If you don’t, the check engine light will probably come on.
Do you have air suspension? I found a vehicle with it but I feel like it’s a consumable and will need replacing.. wondering how reliable your car has been ? Also if it’s been reliable with air suspension if you have it. Hoping for a response cheers!
Bought mine (2011 3.6 V6 958) a year and half ago and here's how much it cost me: 1: Replacing 4 tire sensor -- 2300$ (covered by warranty) 2: Fixing coolant leak -- 600$ 3: Replacing right side mirror motor -- 570$ (covered by warranty) 4: A new set of tire -- 1400$ 5: Aux coolant pump replacement --1350$ (covered by warranty w/ 200$ deductible ) 6: Replacing battery -- 270$ (Did it myself or otherwise around 700$ at dealer) 7: BreakFluid flush -- 120$ (Did it myself or otherwise 1300$) 8: Air filter + Oil/Filter change -- 150$ (Around 600$+ at dealer) 9: Transfer Case fluid flush -- 40$ (Not sure how much dealer charge for this) 10: Wiper replacement -- 40$ (Probably about 150$ at dealer -- not entirely sure) 11. SparkPlugs @14$ each and ignition coil @35$ each -- 300$ including tax and shipping.. Very satisfied with this car and it is quite reliable. But its probably good idea to get extended warranty if possible and prepare to do bunch of simple preventative maintenance yourself.
Can you please explain me how extended warranty work🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I have a bmw 4.28 now and I’m planning to buy a 2011-2014 cayenne but It will be my first used-car so idk how can I extend the warranty from Porsche or other dealers, how much it cost? Which one do you prefer can you please inform me🙏🏻 (live in France)
@@premium2554 You might want to check with your dealer when purchasing the car. Many dealer offers extended warranty for certified preowned porsches. Mine cost around 3k USD and it offers coverage for engine + trans. The warranty is offered by a third part though, not from dealer or Porsche factory. I'm not sure how's it in France but I'd definitely suggest you to check with dealer. As for how it works, here in US, you'd take the car to dealer for repairs and the dealer will contact the warranty provider to cover the cost of repair. You'd only pay for deductible + anything that is not covered. Hope this helps !
First thing...the video production is at a pro level...!! The review was great...straight to the point and no big fuss about it...!! I'm really looking forward to own a Cayenne...!!!
Lovely car. I have a Panamera which has the same engine and when I got it I discovered that some of the plastic coolant fittings under the inlet manifold were cracked and very slowly leaking and there was a small pool of coolant in the V of the engine. This is something for a potential buyers to look out for on the 3.0L TDI. I love working on my cars and I fixed it myself during the first lockdown, but it took me about six hours and I decided to replace the oil cooler as well which added to the price. I replaced the water pump whilst I was in there and cleaned out the inlet manifold as these DFI engines do get gunked up on the inlet side. I get 50 miles to the gallon from my Panamera on long motorway journeys. I’m delighted with my Panamera. Your Cayenne looks like a lovely car as well!
I appreciate your honesty and candor. I've owned a 2015 EHybrid Cayenne and I have absolutely no complaints. Porsche's aren't for everyone. If you have champagne taste but only a Coca Cola budget, you will complain about fuel costs. It's an SUV for goodness sakes, not a sedan. It will take more fuel! My EHybrid actually allowed me to switch usage both electric and gas. On those long trips, it was definitely a positive factor. The speed, power, handling, superior performance and comfort were more than worth it. Sadly, its time for an upgrade and I just sold the vehicle. Yes, I'm ready for a full electric vehicle....Not Tesla, not Audi or any of the other upstarts. I'm waiting for the all electric Porsche Cayenne and my expectations for superior performance are high! I know they will deliver.
All of the Porsche SUVs are fantastic cars. We have a 2016 Macan S and not a single issue. So comfortable and the handling puts to shame BMW and Mercedes. Great review!
Vehicle Excise Duty. I have a Macan, only spent money on fuel, insurance (£350), VED and servicing (£800 ). Only needs a service every two years. Quality is exceptional.
On my 2nd Cayenne... love the style, the features and the performance! Only issue has been the transfer case, which Porsche replaced (FOC) under their recent extended warranty program. As for the roof casket --- my feeling is inconsequential, but to me: If it dont fit in the cargo area, it aint going!
With any stop start problem it usually is down to an old battery. A lot of V/W parts fit and are exactly the same part minus the porsche sticker. Having owed an Audi I can confirm their parts prices are on a level with a Porsche
Look out for oil leaks. We had the exact same car and year. Porsche quoted us over 5K for an engine out but its seldom required. local former Porsche technician who runs an indy garage told us it was a couple of rods in the engine block which had not had enough sealant put on when built. Half a day and £300. Job done. Oil leak vanished and part exchanged with Porsche for a 2017 plate with the 262 brake. Huge difference.
Great video fella. I have a very similar 2011 Cayenne Diesel which I have had for a year now, and no one believes you can get 50mpg from these! Mine is my daily and again similarly is driven 80 miles per day on my commute and it always gets over 40mpg although it is A1 and M62 so easy motorway miles. I also have a rattle in the back, think it is a loose clip or something. You and I have lots in common as I have a 997 in the garage too!
Got my wife a white Cayenne in January 2020 and it's a great vehicle. Solid in the snow here in Montreal and great in the summer too. Definitely get the air suspension. And I know the roof box is functional but really not a look I like.
I refused to give up my Cayenne and put over 200 thousand miles on it. I never go more than 3 years without getting a new model. Awesome vehicle. Since, I've had 2 Macans.
There's no way that the eclass was doing over 100 mpg, it doesn't make sense. Maybe he did less driving or isn't remembering correctly how much he was paying.
with your start stop issue, you may need to replace the battery and/or have it reprogrammed. The vehicle likely has one of those "intelegent" charging systems that only charges the battery when necessary, but if the battery is on it's way out, or it doesn't understand the "true" state of charge than it can cause the issue you've described.
I have a 2014 GTS, fantastic car. Not faultless, I have Porsche Warranty and I wouldn't own it without it. I wouldn't worry about 35mpg Mr Tpn TV. I get 12mpg, all day, every day. Thats a lot of 98 octane! I feel like the sound from the NA4.8 litre V8 is worth the fuel dump!
How do you have Porsche Warranty? Can you please explain me this process 🙏🏻 I have bmw 4.28 and I’m planning to buy a 2014 cayenne, everybody says I have to get warranty with it but idk how it works, how much it cost etc
Your mileage is impressive! I just want to tell my fellow Americans that, here in US, our gallon is 3.8 Liters, compared to the British gallon of 4.5 Liters. Meaning that 1 British gallon is basically 1.2 US gallons. That is why, to us in US, 50mpg sounds out of this world for such a heavy SUV. Here in US, we can possibly reach mid or high 30s MPG, which is still amazing! There are not too many diesel Cayennes here left, due to Dieselgate. And the diesel sales before Dieselgate lagged far behind those of the gasoline counterparts. I myself can’t wait to get into Cayenne. I had X5 3.5 and it was a good car. Then I drove my friend’s 2013 Cayenne S with 4.8 V8 and it was a beast! Needles to say, I fell in love with it. Now, since 2015, Cayenne S comes with 3.6L twin turbo, which is actually a bit faster and more economical than older V8 model, but does not feel “the same” as a true naturally-aspirated V8. Hence, I am shopping for 2012-2014 Cayenne S V8.
Nice video. I'm coming up on 60yo and early retirement and my Jaguar F-Type S does not tow anything and the Cayenne seems surprisingly competent. It looks like one of the smallest SUV's to tow 7,000+ and I travel alone, so I don't need the normal full sized SUV. Fuel economy is better than my Jaguar (the way I drive anyway). I know how it is to pull up at lights and have someone bellow from 2 lanes over "HEY DUDE, NICE CAR !" and then try to hold a conversation as the lights go to green. As I live in Arizona, there are lots of times off roading of some degree is fun and I've been surprised that the Cayenne does that well, too. Just had my F-Type's annual (minor) service and needed tracking doing too - 575GBP. I think it's fair to say, if you haven't got a porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes etc. yet, expect everything to be expensive. But all in all, I'm encourage by what's been discussed in this video - may well go ahead and trade for the Porsche.
If you are thinking to get one of these the "Porsche Cayenne S Plug-in Hybrid" is the way to go the 2015 models are nice price range around 40k euros . 3.5 liters/100km
The fuel usage is because it's an SUV. It's no good comparing it with a car. SUV's sit much higher on the road and present a far larger frontal surface area to the wind. So the drag is much greater. If you want an SUV high profile vehicle, it has to be paid for at the pumps. Simple as that.
Great video, I hope more people realize what hidden gems these beasts are. I had a 2013 Mini Cooper before buying my Cayenne, and I noticed that the services were going to cost about the same at an independent shop but with the Porsche having much better reliability. Millage is only a little worse, which was a pleasant surprise (22mps vs 27mpg averages according to both cars on board computers). You're so right about the air suspension also, its such a pleasant experience and it isn't tiresome to drive. I don't have interior squeaks or rattles, but the last owner really didn't take very good care of it, and the leather is dried up and peeling in some places. I'm hoping the leather products from the Chemical Guys can work some life back into it. That is really the only issues I've had with it, the last owners neglected a lot of things. I did the spark plugs and coils myself, and it reinvigorated the engine and improved the fuel millage.
The Stop/Start issues seems to be related to the switch. Just disengage the stop/start feature and it won't stop on you. Search YT for the 8 common problems with a Cayenne. The rattle noise too is mentioned and how to fix it.
What a coincidence! I run into your videos when I was considering moving on from mb w211 to w212 , like 4 , 5 years ago . And now when I have decided to move again you're covering exactly the car I have chosen too . And it's not that I have been disappointed in MB E - class . Almost the opposite of that, E class has earned so much respect ( here in Norway) that prices for used cars are over the roof . With that price tag.... I'm like, ok, is there another " reliable", may be a couple of years older.........
My daughter has just bought one, it looks great and has all the toys but I cringe to think how expensive it will be if something seriously goes wrong, it is lovely though.
First time I experienced that power shut off thing at a junction (not even a malfunction) I quick found the button for it and turned it off permanently. Not a single issue or thought about it since then thank God.
Great video mate. I’m about to buy a minty 2011 w/ 105km and expect high repair costs but hope to avoid the stupidly expensive stuff…. We’ll see. You’re video is very well done and appreciated.
I had a black car back in the 1980’s and it was a nightmare to keep clean. I maintain that every driver will have 1 black car, but if they buy more than one it means that they probably have someone else who does the cleaning (or they are filthy rich)!
Great review! Thats really great fuel economy for such a heavy car. Have Merc E350 and considering Cayenne (2012 or 2013) for reliability, SUV practicality, ground clearance, handling and comfort and AWD. Love the round looks of Cayenne so I would not mount any box on top of it but as you require the extra space why not, still looks great.
We have a 13 Cayenne and a 15 Macan S. We cannot see one good reason for the start/stop feature other than to appease some regulatory agency and put undo stress and wear on the starter.
nice review my friend... these are really nice, they really do stand out, those porsche lines never fail to turn heads...I'm rock'n a BMW X1 atm, great little vehicle but I feel like I need just a tad more personality and power, and I'd like to tow stuff also, which brings me here....
Though I love my ‘13 Cayenne S, I just don’t trust it. Already on its 3rd transfer case in 96k, killed two coil packs, AOS rubber diaphragm failed (can only buy with the whole AOS box if you want OEM), and a few other random issues. You’ll never experience that with an RX. Stick with Lexus, far better overall for longterm and heavy use, just not as much fun.
@@trdsc1 I have an RX 350 and look at the faster vehicles on the road and am very attracted to them. Then I see the posted speed limit in town of 50 or 60 km per hr, depending on the road I am on, and wonder just when I would ever redline/throttle the fast car (Audi, BMW, MB, Porsche, etc.) anyway. I can't even open up the RX without quickly having to slow down. LOL!
Great video. Love my 2012 black Cayenne S w/ 20 inch Porsche wheels, light tan interior, Porsche monogrammed headrest and monogrammed center console. Love the S because where i am, I see very few S models, 99% base models. True sport car that is a SUV you can put the family in with plenty of HP, even in comfort mode. Simply a monster in Sport mode. I agree, the ride is simply amazing. Respect the Crest. Thanks for tip of Icarsoft diagnostic scanner.
I'm not sure why are you disappointed by fuel economy. According to online calculators 35MPG is 6,7l /100 km which is superb. I think the cost you calculated just boils down to miles you make. Also I wonder, if you paid 70GBP/month in an E-class, this couldn't have been with the same mileage? Otherwise that merc would have to be more than twice fuel effective, which sounds miraculous?
The mileage has a lot to do with it, my thinking is that I could be driving any other daily like a bm, merc, Audi etc with the right engine, and I could be getting a lot more miles for my money.
I don't get it, you're driving PORSCHE which is premium brand car and as you mentioned in video that repair cost is a bit higher, and you have to be prepared and seconds later you're trying to say that fuel consumption is high, sorry but this is stupid. 7l/100km diesel is nothing, you have to understand that this is 3.0 v6 engine, body SUV so it's not the best aerodynamics, weight and etc. Maybe and just maybe if you buy sedan BMW 520 manual you could get better numbers, but it's not gonna be like 4-5l/100km. You should buy hybrid Toyota Corolla or yaris to get this kind of numbers.
@@wilius999 Buddy, What you say makes total sense. The fella appears to be a sandwich short of a picnic IMO. I don't seem to stand alone on thinking that either. Dial into this other YT channel video, and check out the comment section.... Project Roxanne - Day 1 of the repair
I am going to sell my 2010 Ford truck so that i may buy a 2013 Porsche Cayenne S because i own a 2014 Boxster and love every second of it. Worth every penny. Love the Porsche name and car.
I'm with you I turn that shit off so annoying when you want to move after a red light and you wait for the engine to start up agian. Plus I didn't buy a turbo to save on gas 😂
@@brothersgarage3748 It depends on the brand. With a Jaguar XF the engine started once I put my foot on the gas. With my Audi, the engine starts once I take my foot off the brake so no noticeable delay once I step on the gas.
No, some of of don’t give a rats arse about fuel consumption, had a gla45 amg and in 4 years only looked at the fuel consumption twice. Just bought a macan s and won’t be worrying either.
He lost all credibility with me when he claimed he was getting 40 to 50 miles per gallon and that his previous Mercedes E Class got twice as good as that (80 to 100 mpg I assume).
He said on a motorway run. It's UK Mpg. E Class diesels can push 70+ on a motorway. Being pedantic if that's not there or thereabouts double. You lost all credibility.
Hey Satch. Another great Video. I’ve a 2014, 958 3.0d for 18 months now and it’s done 78000 miles. All good - no issues ! Love the car. Took me 9 months to find the headlamp washer button on mine. 7months ago you did a video where you chipped yours ? Wondered how that was working out? Over the 20,000 miles I’ve done, returning 41mpg but mainly Runs to Manchester and Durham and back. I’m pretty happy with that, touch better than my giulia veloce
Great video! I am currently considering a Cayenne, trading in my Insignia. I´ve looked at other SUV´s, but there always seems to be "something missing", as to where this car seems to have it all (atleast for what I am looking for that is: higher car, lots of loading space, with a good amount of power and still have a decent economy)
I have a GTS, best car I have ever owned. I have had Mercs, Jags, BMW's the list goes on. That's said in your video you said the Cayenne is Porsches best seller. That may be the case in the UK but my local PCar dealer here in North America says it's the Macan. Basically because it's cheaper. I test drove a Macan Turbo before I bought my Cayenne. Still bought the Cayenne GTS.
Would agree with you . Comfort is 2nd to none. I have 05 3.2 petrol. 37.7mpg on a run had no issues other than a wee vibration from dash . Iv had lots of luxury cars but my porsche cayenne top's the lot
I have a 981 Cayman, I think its a battery issue, my auto start stop doesn't work (but that's fine honestly because I hate auto start stop) the alternator over charges the battery sometimes to 14.9 V when I'm driving and the battery gets drained quickly when the car idles for about 10 mins and I have to start it again for it to charge. When I run the battery nearly flat where the car turns itself off I get an IPC code U0155 but it goes away after I run the car for a little. All symptoms of a battery that need to be replaced soon. No hard cranks at all though.
Sometimes you need to replace the battery on new cars, and chose a battery with more capacity/Amperes of the same size (in one case I could even fit a larger sized battery !). I have seen this issue with a Hyundai Santa Fe, Citroen Berlingo, and BMW X3. Hyundai and BMW would not start after a few days or weeks without driving, and Citroen would not start if I had to stop/start too often (I had to wait 10 minutes, then it would start, without charging). In all these cases the issues were solved with a battery of higher capacity than the original model.
As a Boxster owner considering a Cayenne, the fact that none of these reviews talk about the driving experience (other than comfort) tells me it's not really a driver's car.
Sounds like you need to just permanently disable the auto stop/start, pretty easy modification, the previous owner of my 958 had it done to the car, best 200 he ever spent for me ;)
The Cayenne 958 is indeed a very nice car, I sold my CTT in January, very reliable and I can relate with everything said in this video, except of course the power of the Turbo version, it is extremely fast! Why did I sell it? Well I guess I was just never excited about the car, mine was white with beautiful natural brown leather and walnut mix interior, it just didn't give me a buzz, perhaps the underwhelming sound of the car as compared to a GTS, or perhaps it was the light feel of the steering, everything about the car was soft, easy and delicate. The chrome on the window buttons started breaking, the lovely stitched leather on the dash started shrinking back, I heard this was a common problem with these cars in hot climates, but mechanically and all it was driving perfectly with everything working, except the adaptive cruise control that had a mind of its own. I had an 07 C2S and I guess I was looking for a daily driver/family car/performance car in one after I sold the Carrera, but the CTT just didn't quite do it for me, you know that car that makes you offer to do the errands, I mean all the time? That car that you just want to drive and keep driving, this wasn't it. I found that in a very strange place as I picked up a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 for half the price, shocking! The good news is I should be welcoming a 997, a Coupe this time any moment from now, (just have to have a Porsche in my life) with the cayenne, horses for courses I guess....
If your car isn’t starting from a standstill and is then cranking over slowly, I’d suggest a new battery is the likely solution. Batteries in these cars have to work bloody hard so investing in a good, new one makes sense….
Had a Porsche Macan S for two yrs, VERY expensive to use this car as a daily driver. VERY high repair bills, even for regular maintenance. $ 18,000 in repairs and maintenance in two yrs. Yes, its a head turner, but specialty mechanics are the only ones who work on it, and you really get the idea with that first $700. oil change at the Dealership and they have the car for two days. Lost the $6,000 transfer case twice in 14 months. Bought a Lexus LS 500 F Sport and it blows Porsche off the map. 416 HP and 440 ft of torque. The Macan struggled for power when you had any passengers in the car, even in Sport Mode. The Lexus has no such issues, and hasn't had a single repair bill in 3 yrs. And an oil change is $80.00 at my local mechanic. Porsche looks great, but like all German Luxury cars, uses the cheapest crap for parts. That's where they make all their money. Cheap profit making parts, and tons of repair and maintenance to follow. Fun to drive for 2 yrs, but outrageously high costs that are unsustainable. Also, 16-19 mpg with a gas engine.
It is the best suv ever built. The base 3.0cc diesel turbo power is more than enough for normal driving . Fuel consumption is very good .even pasm model is very comfortable. Steering precision is best .very very reliable car. But a very minor engine oil leak below engine housing but will last before the next 10k km service change
My BMW did the same thing with the Stop Start, I bought a CTEK mxs 5.0 and did a recondition on the battery and never had a issue since, might be worth a shot 👍
@@alsatch_ just turn it off. I always turn it off on my Panamera diesel. Doesn’t seem to have any effect on the fuel consumption and every start and stop is causing wear on your engine. Scotty Kilmer did a good video on this on YT on why start stop systems are a con.
I think it’s funny when people base their “understanding” that a car is going to cost more to own on the original price of the car, and not the engineering behind it. For example, did you know that the alarm module in the Cayenne is the EXACT same module they use on the Jetta? Probably not, right, but if you buy the “Jetta” part, it’s about $40, if you want the “Porsche” part, it’s about $150. Even though, they are EXACTLY the same part (when mine failed, I bought the Jetta version and installed it, so…I know for sure). BUT, this car gets expensive when the systems that are custom to Porsche fail. Again, for example, when the air suspension fails. You’ll find out that Porsche has a recommendation to change the air suspension shocks at 100,000 miles. You’ll also learn that since the air suspension is all specific to this car, with no other vehicles using the same airbags, you’ll end up looking at roughly $1000-1500 PER CORNER, just in parts expense to get the replacements. So in the end, sometimes the extra cost is because of Porsche using a one-off part but other times, it’s just because they are ripping the average person off. I’m not sure how I feel about that in the end after owning one. The worst part for me, I had a 958 Turbo V8, and the cam adjuster bolt fell out and caused catastrophic damage. Luckily the recall covered most of it, but as soon as I got it back from that repair it was gone.
You could have bought a VW Touareg 3.0 TDI for a lot less. Still holding on to my 2014 Touareg TDI Lux. I don't care about soccer moms looking or not looking at me while driving.
I drove a 2015 Touareg for a year then bought a 2013 Cayenne V6 (and later V8 same year and diesel). The difference in driving and comfort is night and day. The only thing a Touareg shares with the Cayenne is the platform & engine for the V6. The engine in the cayenne is tuned differently and to me responds much better than the Touareg. The V8 Diesel Cayenne which I own now has an Audi engine, I’ve never driven one so I can’t compare. But definitely my 2013 Cayenne diesel held up much better than the 2015 Touareg my brother owns.
This is a nice review my friend. I too have a cayenne. But I wouldn't play around with the engine shutting off. Go to a certified Porsche mechanic and get the job done right the first time.
If you don't need towing, fuel is important there are other options. Mitshubishi outlander, if don't need off road that much passat gte, fully electric kia e-niro, skoda enyaq, aso. So yeah it's just a prestige, you don't need it. Buy something reasonable, and not poisen the world, and get money away from the ones who nedd it for living purposes.
Yes really enjoying our 2012 on road trips and general highway driving. Smoothest cruiser I've owned - and at 12 years old no less! Might consider the roof box as well - need lots of space for stuff when hauling kids on trips.
I like the Cayenne but I think I’m going to go for the Macan Turbo. I prefer the smaller size and the handling is 911 like. So funny to see a diesel Porsche. I never knew they made a Diesel engine. Here in the US it’s petrol only.... I really enjoy your channel. You’re honest and up front.
Had my Cayman in for service and was given a 2021 Macan S for a loaner. That thing would embarrass some muscle cars, loved it. Would like to see how that turbo feels.
In the USA we did get a Cayenne diesel as well as Audi Q7 and Touareg. The Macan is like an Audi Q5 and they had diesel in that as well! But if you want the optional air suspension in the USA only the Q7 and Cayenne had that for this generation.
Mileage high 30's, low 40's to 50 mpg. £200 per month. You say £70 per month with the Mercedes, which is almost a third. So the Mercedes could get 120-150 mpg?
I didn’t really have much say in where it could be placed because of the fixings on the box itself. It actually a box from Land Rover which I borrowed from a mate. Thanks for watching 👍
I don't like the roof rack. It visually turns Cayenne into a soccer mom's van which defeats one of the purposes of a premium sports car: stunning looks. I like the review!
The start stop function depends on the battery health! If it fails and it's slow to crank you may need a new battery! You wont necessarily get a fault message for this issue. Battery is £250 plus an hours labour for fitting at non porsche specialist.
Do not forget to code the new battery to the car. Without coding the battery will be depleted within 2 month and the situation will be the same regarding the start-stop. I did this mistake, learnt from it. Time to time it is worth to regenerate the battery with a charger capable of desulphating. Because of the 15.5V pulse charge I recommend to disconnect the battery ground cable and charge the battery directly via the positive charging pole of the car and the negative battery pole. If the batery was deep charged - two weeks sitting on an airport - than this regeneration is mandatory. Pay attention how frequently the start stop is in use and what durations. If you drive short distances and have a lot of traffic light with 1 minute or more red light than the system is not able to charge the battery back to the normal level. In this case a normal charging is necessary via the cars charging poles.
Owned one for 6 months, drives beautiful, shit build quality, footwells full of water, parking sensors constantly broke, noisy fuel pump, water in the spare wheel well, 63 plate cayenne v6 diesel, sold it and bought a bmw m4
Start your review after 300 k miles , then we could have a real discussion, my 2010 Honda Civic hybrid , 375 k , just replaced the catalyst converter , and still going .
Great video on the Cayenne. I'm curious if you wish you wouldn't have gotten the diesel for performance? I was lucky to find a well cared for 2010 Cayenne GTS with PDCC and the air suspension. You are correct about the air susp and how great it is! I bought my Cayenne for $8,800 plus some shipping. It had over 200k miles on it with the V8. I'm at 217,000k and it still drives and pulls like it's broken in but it is my daily so I do take it easy. And the Sport mode and Exhaust is awesome! I have a couple Mustangs in my neighborhood and it's fun to drive by and wave!
The Cayenne is a guilty pleasure car for me - something I shouldn't want but do to sit alongside the Cayman. I envision it as the perfect do anything car - so practical, yet comfy and fun. The cost to do similar miles to you would be prohibitive, but it is tempting to buy a cheap 955 Cayenne V6 and sticker it up as a Porsche Club GB support vehicle like a Rothmans Dakar support 🤣
We have the 2016 that we bought new. Never a single problem in 5 years. Not a one.
How many miles (odometer) and is it a petrol or Diesel?
@@ghanamafia7199 That wasn't a want ad :)but...34,000 miles, petrol.
You'd hope so...It's 5 years old lol. Love our 2010 Cayenne...had a couple problems hahaha
Which model is it? The S ? Or normal one?
@@blueplanet1048 just the base. When we get a new one I'll want the S with the air suspension, but the one we have is a splendid car
Another good thing about any Porsche is that if you take good care of it, it can last almost forever. I have a Cayenne Turbo that I bought in 2003. The engine still works fine after 160,000 miles. And after replacing some plastic parts on the body, it looks almost looks like a new car.
How much do you pay to maintain it annually?
@@Illiterate243 It is not cheap to maintain. I probably spend about $2000 per year. If you buy a used cayenne, the biggest thing to check is the transmission, because the transmission isn't easily repaired, and replacing it is really expensive. And of course, be ready to buy a lot of gas, because it only gets around 10 miles/gallon.
My cayenne s once got 31 mpg a gallon, but the good Canadian gallon. Only vehicle i want to own. No need to replace it, a 2013.
Lol how about mines I got 276k miles 06 I just purchased a 2015 so I got both
mine has 300,000 miles in the USA.
Let's face it, 30+ mpg for a huge truck/SUV is amazing!
Typical for diesel though.
Bought mine (2011 3.6 V6 958) a year and half ago and here's how much it cost me:
1: Replacing 4 tire sensor -- 2300$ (covered by warranty)
2: Fixing coolant leak -- 600$
3: Replacing right side mirror motor -- 570$ (covered by warranty)
4: A new set of tire -- 1400$
5: Aux coolant pump replacement --1350$ (covered by warranty w/ 200$ deductible )
6: Replacing battery -- 270$ (Did it myself or otherwise around 700$ at dealer)
7: BreakFluid flush -- 120$ (Did it myself or otherwise 1300$)
8: Air filter + Oil/Filter change -- 150$ (Around 600$+ at dealer)
9: Transfer Case fluid flush -- 40$ (Not sure how much dealer charge for this)
10: Wiper replacement -- 40$ (Probably about 150$ at dealer -- not entirely sure)
11. SparkPlugs @14$ each and ignition coil @35$ each -- 300$ including tax and shipping..
Very satisfied with this car and it is quite reliable. But its probably good idea to get extended warranty if possible and prepare to do bunch of simple preventative maintenance yourself.
Are those main dealer prices? You know that you can go to an indy shop and get much lower prices?
@@rozetca Those are dealer quotes. Indy shops are probably cheaper but there's no guarantee they can do it right. i'd prefer to do it myself if I can.
2004 and 2011 models have the most issue
Going through the the same issues with my 2013 diesel Cayenne. 134,000.
@@paulosyohannes3948 did you get it fixed? What was the remedy
Hello, Simply push the damn Start/Stop mode off! (we keep ours turned off)
That is what I was thinking
Jeez you say time for an upgrade when my family has a 2006 nissan suv
All of the Porsche SUVs are fantastic cars. We have a 2016 Macan S and not a single issue. So comfortable and the handling puts to shame BMW and Mercedes. Great review!
It’s good to hear the positive review of a Macan. It seems everywhere I look I’m hearing about oil leaks and repairs costing thousands of dollars.
Just purchased a Cayenne S 2004 myself. Thanks for this video!
I love my 2014 diesel, gets me 700 miles + highway driving. Bought mine pre-owned and got the 10K rebate and warranty. Best deal ever! Great video!!
Can you please explain more about the 10k rebate
2nd that😊
Vehicle Excise Duty.
As for the roof casket --- my feeling is inconsequential, but to me: If it dont fit in the cargo area, it aint going!
roof casket ⚰
The best review of any car I’ve seen in years.
With any stop start problem it usually is down to an old battery. A lot of V/W parts fit and are exactly the same part minus the porsche sticker. Having owed an Audi I can confirm their parts prices are on a level with a Porsche
The roof box is a great place to store your mother-in-law too!
🤣🤣🤣
Definitely not my great mother-in-law
😭😬😬😂
Or ex wife.
Oh wow,has it a chilling facility.....
Within one year did you spend some money? I'm planning to buy 2010 used one .
Got my wife a white Cayenne in January 2020 and it's a great vehicle. Solid in the snow here in Montreal and great in the summer too. Definitely get the air suspension. And I know the roof box is functional but really not a look I like.
Jelly good husband
I refused to give up my Cayenne and put over 200 thousand miles on it. I never go more than 3 years without getting a new model. Awesome vehicle. Since, I've had 2 Macans.
If the Cayenne does 35 mpg and costs £200 a month and the Mercedes cost £70 that puts the Mercedes at over 100 mpg impressive !
Haha, I was about to say the same thing!
Yeah, but its a Mercedes. Try cracking a smile every time you drive it. You need to calculate smiles per gallon too.
There's no way that the eclass was doing over 100 mpg, it doesn't make sense. Maybe he did less driving or isn't remembering correctly how much he was paying.
[ he's ignoring you ]
@@sheldonmoser7429yeah they get about 50mpg he got it wrong
I would recommend getting the hybrid. Less tax, free parking, more power than the diesel.
with your start stop issue, you may need to replace the battery and/or have it reprogrammed. The vehicle likely has one of those "intelegent" charging systems that only charges the battery when necessary, but if the battery is on it's way out, or it doesn't understand the "true" state of charge than it can cause the issue you've described.
is there a way to delete the start-stop program?

Bought the Cayenne s in 2013, then got another Cayenne s the new gen in 2016, and have just bought a new Cayenne turbo 2021 and we love Porsche !
There is a reason Porsche is ranked last in quality and reliability of 32 OEMs.
I have a 2013 turbo, love it. I would not put a box on the roof.
You can adjust the height on these a bit though it probably doesn’t make much difference. Fuel costs are high and only premium
Just sold our 2015 hybrid cayenne what a absolutely lovely car these cars are amazing
I really want a Porsche, but I’m so scared. I’m not rich, it’s just my dream car. I can buy it but idk if I can manage to keep it running

I bought this cayenne turbo s like 10 years!
Until now I do not get any problems of it...
wow really! brand new or used? hows the mileage?
If I had a dollar everytime he said really, I could finally afford to buy a Porsche Cayenne.
Did you end up buying it?
We have a 13 Cayenne and a 15 Macan S. We cannot see one good reason for the start/stop feature other than to appease some regulatory agency and put undo stress and wear on the starter.
it would be something i would disable permanently
A Porsche it's a Porsche, it's a Porsche.
Nope, Porsche is a sports car, not a family wagon (Cayennes/Panameras).

I would recommend the V8 Diesel. We get 40+ mpg on the motorways, and it is an epic towing vehicle. The Air suspension is a must.
nice review my friend... these are really nice, they really do stand out, those porsche lines never fail to turn heads...I'm rock'n a BMW X1 atm, great little vehicle but I feel like I need just a tad more personality and power, and I'd like to tow stuff also, which brings me here....
I was looking at 2016 with 86k for 30k dollars, thanks for this review. I’m going to get Lexus RX
Totally different vehicle with very different strengths and weaknesses.
The RX’s biggest strength is it will last if you intend to keep it over 10+ years. 295 hp is plenty enough for me
Though I love my ‘13 Cayenne S, I just don’t trust it.
Got a naturally aspirated s I loved so much went for another.

@@brothersgarage3748 It depends on the brand. With a Jaguar XF the engine started once I put my foot on the gas. With my Audi, the engine starts once I take my foot off the brake so no noticeable delay once I step on the gas.
I think Porsche designed that feature for gas efficiency. A lot of people do not like that feature.

Not starting at a red light would stress me out. Every time I came to a light my anxiety would perk up.
There has to be a way to turn off the auto stop. Toyota has it so why not Porsche?
As a Boxster owner considering a Cayenne, the fact that none of these reviews talk about the driving experience (other than comfort) tells me it's not really a driver's car.
I got me a 2013 Cayenne GTS, this truck is amazing!
Good to see that the indicators don't work like most other Porches I see in my town.
Woww…what year was your S? I was looking at S and was hearding that they are pretty reliable
Interesting. I suppose it would rule out the battery being at fault in a case like this.
Where were you driving in those country scenes? Looks beautiful.
Over by edmundbyers, weardale, Waskerley etc some terrific roads out on the Dale’s. Thanks for watching Alan 👍
@@anthonyb9364 If the S was nice imagine the GTS. That thing 1 inch lower than any other Macan including the Turbo.
In the USA we did get a Cayenne diesel as well as Audi Q7 and Touareg. The Macan is like an Audi Q5 and they had diesel in that as well! But if you want the optional air suspension in the USA only the Q7 and Cayenne had that for this generation.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Cayenne
Mileage high 30's, low 40's to 50 mpg. £200 per month. You say £70 per month with the Mercedes, which is almost a third. So the Mercedes could get 120-150 mpg?
I thought the same, I think he’s worked his fuel consumption out wrong.
You have been very lucky with that one Satch. Its been more or less trouble free motoring. However, does it do much mileage during lockdown?.
I like the roof box however i would sit it back a little so it flows with the shape of the porsche
I didn’t really have much say in where it could be placed because of the fixings on the box itself. It actually a box from Land Rover which I borrowed from a mate. Thanks for watching 👍
@@alsatch_ ahh makes sense,
Love the channel just been binge watching your video, what colour is your cayman? 😍😍😍
@@johnjoe105 thanks man, it’s cobalt blue lovely little car. Cheers 👍👍👍👍
I didn’t realize the UK had a different gallon than the US 😮 only 3.8 liters per here. I learned something today!
How much would it cost to fix the air suspension? 🤔
How come fuel cost doubled compared with your E Class? The Merc was doing 70mpg?
Owned one for 6 months, drives beautiful, shit build quality, footwells full of water, parking sensors constantly broke, noisy fuel pump, water in the spare wheel well, 63 plate cayenne v6 diesel, sold it and bought a bmw m4
You might want to redo your math. You are insinuating that you were getting well over 70 mpg on the mercedes.
Really good review. Love the aerials too! Hope to get one of these one day.
You need to do maintenance on your vehicle if you are have issues. Low voltage will cause more problems down the road.
Excellent video thanks, very informative. Just discovered this channel will be subscribing.
