The humour and quality you guys bring has gotten so good recently. I don’t recall the last time I laughed out loud at a RUclips video. Legitimately feels like I’m watching top gear Canadian edition.
You can actually get aftermarket headkights for those Cayenne models that look like the new headlights for a little over $1000. They MASSIVELY improve how the car looks.
There's actually quite a few parts out there for these. There's modern stereo replacements, LED taillight replacements... The only thing you can't really get on these is more power inexpensively.
Great video as usual. In defense of the more Mature Cayenne, I’d say the lift would have worked had you held the button the whole time. It was always designed to work that way from new.
This is easily my favorite series yall do ngl, always fun to see how much more advanced a car gets in 10-20 years or also instead seeing how much of that experience you can get at a fraction of the cost
Just bought my third Cayenne. I now have a 2006 S, and a low mile 2008 Turbo. I bought my 06 with 9k miles, now have 40k miles. The 09, similar, bought I had a friend who really wanted it, and I finally caved. These are amazing value if you buy a good used one with low miles and a good service history. I do all my own maintenance, having a good tool box and access to RUclips. These trucks are easy to service, built very well, and aside from more complex repairs like coolant tubes in the 955 generation, are not difficult to figure out. I have other cars including an 09 911 Turbo , a 78, an 80 and an 86 Mercedes. All are light on technology, very well made, and easily maintained and repaired. Avoid highly computerized newer versions, and used Cayennes will be your go to vehicle for almost everything.

😂I put a new suspension on mine - re-did the headlights, last owner took great care of it so the color is fresh and not this muted blue - some people repaint theirs - you can get it looking and feeling close to new
Worst part for me is that the dealer broke those clips when i took it in for service. I had the back seats down for my dog and they backed the front seats right up into them and wouldn't admit to it.
8:33 as a German i was quite surprised hearing James speaking a German word. But you didn't say "Doppelkupplungsgetriebe", you actually said something like "Doppelgeflügelgetriebe", which actually means "Double poultry transmission". xD
Ah yes modern Porsche use two chickens as their automatic transmission. As a positive they don’t require oil anymore and you get a nice breakfast egg every morning. The only downside is that you now have to remember to feed your transmission or you‘ll have to train two new chickens on how to be a transmission.
Hey guys, I´m an engineer from Porsche. It´s interesting how cheap that 2009´cayenne is in Canada. With that Mileage that model costs about 16-18k € in Germany today. So enjoy the show, even with the particular damages. Best regards!
17:35 Of all things though, $150 for dash cam prep isn't horrible, if it's wired neatly and you're left with convenient USB ports for plugging in a dash cam (hopefully any brand), that's nice. I have hardwired dual dash cams in both our vehicles and if it was an option from factory to have the wires and predetermined location done, I'd be all over that.
I bought a 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid last week. Previously, I had been using 2019 Mercedes-Benz S500L AMG (V222) for two years and many good cars in the past. Porsche is just something else, I'm feeling the best days of my life every day nowadays, the sound, drive, interior, everything is perfectly balanced. A couple of days ago, they loaned me a 992 Carrera GTS for two days to get the sports exhaust fitted in my Cayenne, I wouldn't have the 911 in ugly British roads by any means. It's meant for tracking, but I do only long distances. The guy who drove the Cayenne to pick up the GTS told me that he thinks likewise. Cayenne is a perfect package for daily driving.
Getting the older one so cheap does leave plenty of room to make a handful of repairs & some updates, changes or upgrades. So even if you find a nice clean one for $10-15k & dump another $5-10k you're in for $15-25k & then you likely have a really nice sorted Porsche. As all who've owned or driven any Porsche knows that any well sorted Porsche is an amazing piece of machinery & they are just on a whole other level than most others. Every Porsche makes you a fan over & over again.
I like the look of the older ones way more and a V8 is always better than a 4 banger or V6. It's about sound and feel more than actual performance imo. I don't care if the V6 turbo puts out more power, the V8 is bigger, sounds better, and just feels better.

I love my '15 Cayenne SEH, just about to hit 100k miles and my total repair expense (not counting regular maintenance/ consumables) is $0.13 for a resistor for a failed pedestrian alert speaker. Also the flex discs on the driveshaft were replaced as part of a TSB under previous ownership. I am of the opinion that Cayennes are the most complete car on the market (did you know they tow 7,700 lbs, more than any other SUV or small truck, a tacoma is only good for 6,800 for context). Also a correction to a misconception, the cayennes have actually become even more capable offroaders with each generation, its just that with the 958 gen they switched from a manual two speed transfer case to an automatic torque vectoring one. Find me another car capable of swallowing the whole family plus luggage for a two week vacation that has the NVH of an S class, handles like a sports sedan, has real steering feel, does 60 in under 5, is as reliable as a Toyota, can tow a large boat, and has the fit and finish of a Porsche. Also my SEH is returning ~31-32 mpg lifetime average. The V8 in the new S is the ea825 btw, flash tune gives you 725 hp, add an intake and intercoolers and its good for 830, and with tte1020 hybrid turbos it can make 930 hp pump gas without other mods, total cost of about $9k installed including intercoolers intake and tune.
Tuning an already amazing S is such a stupid idea. It already has more power than you can use on the road. How small does your dong have to be to need that?
Seems to have all the normal Porsche issues. Wonder how they keep their value with all the dissolving plastic, and expensive maintenance. Little things fall apart for no reason except cheap materials in manufacturing. Drives very well for an AWD SUV. But MercedesML550 AMG same year is better as far as quiet, smooth, less costly, better fuel mileage euro SUV.
I looked at probably 10 of them before I bought this one. There's a huge difference in the maintenance history and upkeep of the vehicles. The nine other ones I wouldn't have bought it all. Interiors all clapped out. Lack of maintenance will cost you more to get the car into good condition then just buying a good one. Unless you want to buy one and try to restore it yourself? Hail damage unfortunately messed up the exterior so I gave the car to my daughter and it's her daily driver.
@@gadgetdealz Good contexts. Thank you. The one I am looking at has 30k miles and is a 2-owner. Clean title and all maintenance appears to have been done by a Porsche dealer. I am considering it as a family hauler for a baby to be. Would not be our only vehicle.

Great video!! I just bought a one owner 2005 base model with 6sp manual with 126k miles from a family friend in August for dirt cheap because trade-in values tanked and they literally parked it in 2017. With a bunch of personal repair labor and parts that aren’t super expensive I have it back on the road as of October. @@trevormacdougall9385 ok just curious as I live in Canada and have seen some go for 10-12k but I always figured the maintance would be insane expensive on them since you're still paying to mainte a luxury vehicle.
@@pbufh I also live in Canada. It’s not crazy expensive if you have a good indie shop. Oil changes etc are fine. It’s just they are getting on in age and eventually things need replacing. Genuine Porsche parts aren’t cheap. But overall they are solid trucks.
Some of us actually take our 955/958 cayennes off road. It would be very interesting to see both of these on sports car racing and off road testing (with the same tires)
The maintenance costs are overblown on these. Yeah, I could see the outrageous maintenance costs if the work was done entirely at a stealership--sorry--dealership. However, the case would be another completely different story if whatever maintenance jobs or repairs were taken care of at a quality independent mechanic shop. This particular example notwithstanding, the Cayennes of this generation are pretty reliable. The 4.5 V8 is a Porsche design with some weaknesses, but the V6 (VR6) is the ideal engine for longevity as it makes decent power, sounds great, and is a proven engine overall. Even the V8s aren't bad in the long term once the initial quirks have been solved.

Awesome work as always! I will say that regarding the clinical feel of the Cayennes and how they’ve remained to that, you guys need to test a 957/958 generation GTS, these have so much character and excitement in them! They go like stink and handle beautifully!
The new vs old series is great. I purchased a 2007 911 Carrera 4 last month for under 40k US and it is a riot. My first Porsche and was cheaper than my Focus RS. There’s lots of value in a nicely maintained older car.
My Sister had an 06 Titanium Edition and she put 155k miles on hers from 70k to start. It needed a battery, and few oil changes and had to replace the drive shaft twice. And needed new tires/rims. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the 2024 isn’t available yet, this is a 2023 cayenne
@burdett95 it is though 🤔. Our e3.2 Cayennes are all 2024 model year productions. We start counting after July (following New Financial Year).
@@SpeedCafeGarage yeah its model year 24, but build year 23. Thus its not a 2024 cayenne.

The head shot!! I felt the pain. Great intro and ad, as always! These cheap vs expensive episodes are what the car internet needs.
Omg those hurt sooooooo much. I figured they’d hit the mask, but no, he got straight canoed. I legit believe he blacked out for a second
They should always include an asterisk on the old car price as there seems to be a noticeable difference in the price they found it for and the price listed after the video becomes popular.
I mean this one is only $1k more now
I mean you can get them easily for £7k in the UK, it'll fall apart but still
@@Lukeywoodseyyou can get them for as cheap as £1500 in the UK but it WILL be shit😂😂
@@Xaiuxthe old still powerful than the new Cayenne.
@@Afraz_9n3as awful as Honda S600 for sure 😂
The humour and quality you guys bring has gotten so good recently. I don’t recall the last time I laughed out loud at a RUclips video. Legitimately feels like I’m watching top gear Canadian edition.
I love these guys. They’re good at joking around and they’re great at reviewing cars
Better than Carwow at reviewing? Yes.
I love that you guys do these comparison videos! its like you're inside my mind
I actually like the face-lift version of the old model from the front!
You can actually get aftermarket headkights for those Cayenne models that look like the new headlights for a little over $1000. They MASSIVELY improve how the car looks.
The older is more beautiful
There's actually quite a few parts out there for these. There's modern stereo replacements, LED taillight replacements... The only thing you can't really get on these is more power inexpensively.
Great video as usual. In defense of the more Mature Cayenne, I’d say the lift would have worked had you held the button the whole time. It was always designed to work that way from new.
When I first got my used one I thought it was broken as well. Not sure why they designed it that way 😂
This is easily my favorite series yall do ngl, always fun to see how much more advanced a car gets in 10-20 years or also instead seeing how much of that experience you can get at a fraction of the cost
Mad mats is brilliant, definitely the best showcase for sponsor 😂
I was never a fan of the fried egg/996 911 headlights but I honestly like how it looks here on the facelifted Gen1.
If they were fixed by being polished up, they’d look even better than the new LED headlights.
Had my weathertech mats in my mustang for going on 5 years. Still after all that time, just a hose and a wipe and they look brand new again.
Great video guys!
My Cayenne feels personally attacked. Those seats are an easy fix! I made a video about that!
It even has ventilated seats 😂
😂I put a new suspension on mine - re-did the headlights, last owner took great care of it so the color is fresh and not this muted blue - some people repaint theirs - you can get it looking and feeling close to new
Worst part for me is that the dealer broke those clips when i took it in for service. I had the back seats down for my dog and they backed the front seats right up into them and wouldn't admit to it.
I suscribe because you didn’t ask for 🫡
I have a 2006 turbo S and the seat back just fell off 😅. Couldn’t find your video to fix it though.

I would love to get this series with a 986 and 718 boxsters too!
Definitely the Boxster!
Hey guys, I´m an engineer from Porsche. It´s interesting how cheap that 2009´cayenne is in Canada. With that Mileage that model costs about 16-18k € in Germany today. So enjoy the show, even with the particular damages. Best regards!
You guys need to review the 07 09 acura mdx. Acura tsx. Old acura legend and the acura vigor. Those were very interesting cars and extremely reliable.
Maybe it's just in the video but the old V8 sounds better, IMHO. Great video!
I really like these old vs new comparisons
17:35 Of all things though, $150 for dash cam prep isn't horrible, if it's wired neatly and you're left with convenient USB ports for plugging in a dash cam (hopefully any brand), that's nice. I have hardwired dual dash cams in both our vehicles and if it was an option from factory to have the wires and predetermined location done, I'd be all over that.
BMW offers that, the dash cameras are integrated into the infotainment too.
I *need* more Mad Matts. WeatherTech should be very very proud.
I loved my V8 cayenne, glad they are back with the V8. Also... talk about product placement. That sponsor segment wat epic. :D
Every Porsche makes you a fan over & over again.
perfect comparison choice, i love the cayenne specially the 957

Man I see these on Facebook marketplace all the time and they’re too tempting 😂 might have to pull the trigger for winter
I have a 09 S and I love it. 140k miles and she’s chugging along hoping to get a 2014 gts soon
4:48 please give Mad Mats a barnacle boy-like side kick 😂
Extremely timely guys. I have been looking at Cayennes recently. 957 or 958.1 GTSs.
i love the old vs. new series, I'm so glad yall are still going strong with it!
Great episode. Old = certain cars were a great value, even used years later. New = price is insane on same model + dealer markups.
I like the look of the older ones way more and a V8 is always better than a 4 banger or V6. It's about sound and feel more than actual performance imo. I don't care if the V6 turbo puts out more power, the V8 is bigger, sounds better, and just feels better.
I loved the subtle Carmudgeon Show and Smoking Tire Podcast plugs in the new Cayenne interior review section of the video!! Love, Love, LOVE the Old versus New videos! They really are always a little unpredictable, but predictably hilarious!! Please keep up the amazing work Throttle House team!!!
You really are the only channel where I can watch the hole 20 minute segment without getting bored or tired of to many cheap jokes.
Great job as always
You two are the best car journalists. Keep bringing these types of videos. Very good work guys!
Mad Mats was an unexpected and hilarious surprise.😅
Yet more proof that WeatherTech think too highly of themselves. Your "ads" for them almost made me like the company. I'd like to see the click-thru on your WeatherTech link vs anyone else's. Keep up the good work :)
I would love to see you guys do old Chevy suburban vs new suburban
2023 Surburban Vs the cheapest Suburban you can buy...sounds like a great idea. I just wonder what year they'll pick for the old one.
These guys are hitting their stride! We’ve all been missing top gear for years!
Thank you!!!!
I just wondering when in 2044 someone compare this old 2024 Cayenne with the new one and like "LOL THEY HAD THAT ANCIEND USB TYPE C AND EMI ENDUCTION WIRELESS CHARGING LOL THATS DINOSAUR TECHNOLOGY!!11"
Should’ve used the overtake shot for the “and I’m James” part
Im a former mechanic. That 10k Porsche will be the most expensive car you ever bought
I’m a current owner of that model, and I can confirm your comment.
How much should you put aside for repairs and maintenance?
💯true
Your comment is far over exaggerated and most likely uneducated
@@FourPawsEngineFlawsno it is not
We are so spoiled that this is a RUclips video. The quality is off the charts and it’s uploaded to the same site that people upload their home cat videos. Also top notch product advertisement
Let's say it all together once again, kids: "There's no such thing as a cheap Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls, etc., etc.".
Except for the Aston, yes there is. Currently own all of the other makes you mention. Doing my own work on the cars is the key here. Absolutely can be down if you know cars and can do the work required yourself.
@@wigs1098 Ah, so for the remaining 99% of us - no, there isn't. Thanks for the clarification. Have you bought the coding software and hardware needed to work on makes like BMW for the last 15 years or so?
I’ve said it before but these guys are the best car show since top gear I haven’t seen anyone else even come close
Ironically, now there is SO MUCH of an offroad community that's arisen around the Cayenne. It's actually been driving the prices up again.
Can’t argue…..you guys are priceless: love the humour, the analysis, the tracking, old / new, etc. Suggestion: how about comparing brand similar EV to ICE - ie Volvo to Volvo, Ford - Mustang to Mustang, F150 to Lightning Jaguar to Jaguar, etc, etc. Thanks for keeping me hooked.
@@ted6462I don't think has anything to do with small dongs. 60% of premium electric cars will still blow it out of the water.
@@cs1375 Except they don't. They all handle like trash compared to the Cayenne.
@@ted6462 I'm not talking handling and your last comment wasn't either. We were both talking speed.
I just picked up an 08 GTS for 8500. And it is pretty dang mint, Air suspension, dynamic suspension, tiptronic, pano roof, excellent maintenance
How are you liking it so far? I’m gonna check out a 09 GTS with 80k miles.
@@gadgetdealz Would you buy it again knowing what you know now? I am looking at at 09 GTS
I definitely wouldn’t mind a track test in these old vs new videos.
Giving credit where credit is due, props on the sponsorship bit! I normally fast forward through all sponsored clips on YT and appreciate those that show the "bar" at the bottom (IYKYK) so that I dont over-fastforward. In this case, I was actually looking forward to seeing the rest of the Mad Mats clip/ad at the end and you guys did not disappoint!! 😂
Still, I would get the X5 M. It's cheaper and looks much better internally, and the techs way better in 2024 model. Amazing video as usual ❤
No doubt the X5M is a beast at its price point, but this is the standard Cayenne S vs the full fledged X5M, so they’re different beasts from one another
One of the only things less reliable than (some) Porsches lol
Cayenne handling is far better than X5M, in both comfort and sport settings.
The X5M competes with the Cayenne Turbo. The S is a bit below the X5 M50i
@@reptilez13good job showing your ignorance. Porsche and BMW have both been right near the top (along w Lexus) for luxury reliability ratings for at least the last 5 years
Yeah the older cars are less reliable.
I got the 08 GTS and the 996 turbo both very good. In no rush to buy the new ones
They are literally identical
Great video!! I just bought a one owner 2005 base model with 6sp manual with 126k miles from a family friend in August for dirt cheap because trade-in values tanked and they literally parked it in 2017. With a bunch of personal repair labor and parts that aren’t super expensive I have it back on the road as of October. Being a shared platform with the Q7 and Touareg, there is an abundance of aftermarket support for the older ones AND Porsche announced the 955 & 957 are a part of Porsche Classic program.
Had a 2009 Cayenne S for the past four years. That is the sound of 13 MPG 😅😅
How much did u pay on maintance
@@pbufh It began to add up things needed repair. Fuel pump was probably the most expensive repair.
That was the ONLY time I’ve ever laughed at a sponsored bit. Well done. If more ads were like that, I’d watch them.
The intro is never change at all 😂👍
Some of us actually take our 955/958 cayennes off road. It would be very interesting to see both of these on sports car racing and off road testing (with the same tires)
That 2009 might cost 10K, but it definitely needs another 10-20K in repairs.
Yeah, you are right but still, even if it is a pain in the ass and cost 50K to own it for 8 years you are still ahead by quite a lot
