Not a fan of a purely electronic shifter, but the B58 engine & ZF auto will get the job done.

Was developed in England by an Englishman and and British engineers meant to be built in wales and they were already building the factory ,but the british government wouldnt subsidise the plant. Jim radcliffe moved the whole thing to france just as a fuck you .

70 grand is a bargain for the insane build of this beast. I would LOVE to own this vehicle! Best looking off-roader on the market IMO.
800 miles on my Fieldmaster so far and am absolutely in love with this thing. Bull bars and side rails coming soon.

Kinda wish they made the Ignition a toggle switch too mounted on that main panel, but otherwise, they nailed it.
@@TheBrooklynfoo Was thinking you could wire one of the toggle switches as a killswitch so that unless you do toggle it, car won't start. Stops theft & feels cool as shit!

At 70k that's one of the better values in the auto world. I'm not saying that is cheap but bang for the buck is impressive.

Got to see one of these for the first time a couple months ago. Was randomly parked at a garden supply place. The owner was a local guy and treated me to a tour of it. Really cool (vehicle and owner)!

Test drove one a few weeks ago. It's incredibly solid feeling...like carved from ignot. Which is surprising for a body-on-frame truck from a new company. All the switches feel like a million bucks and there are great details everythwere. The speed warning is almost a deal breaker but you can set a shortcut and rear seat space isn't huge but more than that the footwell entry is very tight in back. The steering is a bit unusual but didn't seem like the end of the world. I have to say...came away impressed.
This is everything I could ever want in an over-lander, and really for the price you're getting a true well priced machine!
You learn new things everyday and one of them is that Thomas is a flight enthusiast that was a good takeoff clearance

Very cool car. Besides the car review, I like to comment on your channel. I watched a lot of car documentaries in my life and currently watching a lot of documentaries about cars and a lot of RUclips channel car reviews too. You guys are really good. I like the joke that you have at the beginning of each video a lot. In my opinion, your knowledge of the importance of writing, cinematography, and content is at a very high level. You guys can produce things at a higher level like old-time top gear. Thank you for the fun times that you give to people like me. I wish you all the best.

I think there is a certain reason why many say it feels a bit like a G-wagon: The guys who did the devellopment of the car was Magna in Graz.
That's where the G is develloped and made.
They even went up the same testtrack on the Schöckl with the Grenadier. (that's a nautral track on a local small mountain, a G Wagon needs to withstand 2000km on without hickup during testing. And when you see how and where they go on that track it is quite surprising that there aren't parts hanging off after they are done with the G-wagon testdriving.)
And if the Billionaire didn't tell them how the experience should feel like to drive, then i would say they went for what they know best...
I am from the are and have seen the odd Grenadier while they were still prototypes.
And i was quite surprised when one of them went up a twisty mountain road in front of me with what i would consider seriour speed for such a vehicle.
As for thomas's question about G wagons in offroad videos: in europe you will find many g-wagon offroading videos, but usually the g-wagons used in the videos are 20-30 years old. They still then aren't cheap, but more affordable for offroaders and still many people tend to go for military surplus ones and they at least a few years back were available at around 16k€. (that's what a safe to drive on the road mil surplus one 30 or 40 years old would goes for, now you can add a bit to that thanks to inflation.)
Yeah but it will end up like G class, will be used by CEO, only fans girls and rappers fir it's looks but vast majority will never even touch grass. It's just way too expensive to be realistically used as serious off-roader especially in Europe where you can buy cheap mode Suzuki that will do much more then Granadier or G class.

You have plenty of old G's used for offroad.
Because that's when they become somewhat affordable. And even a new Jimny can't beat a first gen G-wagon offroad. Because the Jimny never had front and rear lockers.
Where the Suzukis advantage lies is that you can have one to the price of an old G but have a warranty. (Then again, you will brake more things as it isn't as heavily built as a G.)
Well, that was a very good review. You guys nailed (okay..mostly Thomas) on what this vehicle is really all about. I have been following the development of this vehicle since the very beginning, now that I own one (Trialmaster) it’s everything that expected to be.

I think it's an excellent commentary on the current state of the car market when James said "Are there modes like sport mode? Put me in that." We're so accustomed to vehicles inappropriately having that stuff that he assumed it did.
People have complained about not having adaptive cruise control and any number of foo foo things that I would rather not have in a 4x4 and can break down and be difficult and expensive to fix down the road. Form follow function.
I live near a dealer that sells these (and plenty of rich people to buy them), and I've started to see grenadiers at least once a day. Very cool to see them in person, such a different vehicle.
I saw one the other day on the M25 just outside London (near clacket lane) in gun metal grey looked great, been following the development of these for years so was good to see in person, I also saw a Ferrari purosangue in dark red on same journey, was also first one I’ve seen in person 😊
Honestly a great looking truck. Nothing wrong with a nostalgic homage to the Defender.
Teething problems aside, this is a great first generation product. I’ll be curious to see how the facelifted version improves upon it.

Wow, just saw one of these at a Costco in San Jose, CA. It is not often I see something in a parking lot and have no idea what I am looking at. Thrilled it isn't electric as I had assumed.
What is funny is there is an EV version called the Fusilier which looks little a little brother G Wagon. Side by side this is much more imposing... even before a 40mm lift and 35" tires.
Big fan of this silhouette - I'll occasionally see one on my morning commute & it's been one of my favorite spots. In person looks great, though at first I thought it was a vintage land rover resto.

The lane and speed warnings need to reset to default (on) as required by EU law, so it isn't a bug or bad design. They could propably customize the firmware for North America, but then they would have to make custom firmwares for all regions which would complicate production. It's a true world car and you get the same thing whether you buy it in Europe, America or Japan.
I just saw one these last night and couldn't figure out what in the world it was. Crazy you guys post this the next day!

There has been a Grenadier that I’ve been seeing in my morning commute almost everyday here in Pasadena, CA. Really good looking SUV.
In Spring, TX I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a G-Wagon that wasn’t being driven by a woman on her way to shop or pick up kids. They’ve proven to be extremely capable in parking lots.
Not having the M-B badge, or not being a jacked up pickup truck or jeep with attached but never used rescue gear and dashboard toys, this doesn’t stand a chance at appealing to concrete captives.

I remember reading about this years ago. Considering this was steamrolled by one person and made by partners I am actually kind of shocked the price is that low, and it doesn't look really amateurish. If you would have said 150 000 eur I would have not been surprised at all. I work in the chemical industry sourcing and deal with Ineos... I wonder if you will see these in their plants.
Jim Ratcliffe is a very serious guy who is worth around £30bn, essentially from nothing. He's completed a 7 day ultra-marathon across the Sahara desert aged 60. Everything he does is with a purpose and without the ego of at least some of the world's billionaires...

I was looking into getting a grenadier. The thing i was missimg from the review was the focus on the quality of the components they used. From the engine to the diffs and shocks. Everything just extremely well built.

DO A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE GRENADIER AND THE LAND CRUISER !! Opt the mid-teir versions please. Off-road capabilities, fuel consumption, turning circle, price, usability (cup holders, storage, rear loading volume, removable rear seats, towing weigh) add-on options.

Love your videos. And this one made me want to own a truck/SUV for the first time in my life. I've only owned small cars and now own one with the B58 and ZF 8-speed combo, so maybe that helped. And I do fish a lot and do some light upland game hunting. But still this Grenadier is way more overbuilt/rugged than I'd ever need...... It does look really cool and the overhead switch panel is awesome. Keep up the good work. By the way Thomas, would you someday do a video of your watch collection (dive watch nerd here) ?

I don't really like how Doug is so obsessed with putting everything in a touchscreen nowadays. He's still a good reviewer but every video I watch he has to say something about oh they could've put this button in the touchscreen and made it more minimalist etc. meanwhile regular consumers (me included) want buttons back not no touchscreen bs

I shouldn't have to dig through 3 different menus for my fucking headlights (looking at you BMW ) or dig through 4 menus to turn off traction control or accidentally press my steering wheel button cos it's haptic and my hand grazed it slightly (VW you bitch). It's why I shy away from buying most cars made after 2020. There's only a select few I would consider

THIS to me is a $71,000 car
i see so many trucks and SUVs that are around this price range that i would NEVER EVER pay this amount of money for, despite all of the luxuries and all that, thats not important to me. Utility, performance, materials quality, ergonomics, practicality, thats what I value and this car has it.

In the UK we have had these for a year or so now, not better then a defender off-road and significantly worse on road, people are getting out of them quickly.

I backed out of my reservation and bought a HE Land Cruiser instead. I decided if I buy a solid front axle I’d buy a 392, way easier to mod and not feel bad beating it in the woods. The Grenadier is absolutely gorgeous but getting it on 37s or 40s might be a really tough putt.
You can put 35 for 500 dollars. But try getting 37 or even 35 in third world countries. Since this is a global vehicle and not a US vehicle, I can accept you can't get 37 on without some work.
I love this thing, thank you whatever the name was. In this digital era where everything is going touch control we need more of analog things.

I say this as someone who is not in the market for anything resembling either.
In todays crazy market, this thing realistically looks like it is worth closer to $120,000 considering you can't even buy a new Escalade for under $100,000. I gotta say even though $70,000 is a lot, it is a bargain for something this cool and unique.
There's a BMW dealership near me that sells Ineos and I was genuinely confused as to why Ineos was here. But seeing the Grenadiers when people take them on a test drive gives me the same excitement as a seeing an old Defender.
I love this car. This and the new Land cruiser(and the Lexus one) are really cool looking. I love the interior panels.

The design language of this is the most stunning thing I have seen in a while. It's so futuristic but a specific type of futuristic that I really like. Like a more industrial type of futuristic. The dashboard looks like out of an airplane.
This thing is awesome! Shocked that the Wrangler Rubicon wasnt talked about much given that its one of the most, if not, most capable off roader to the broader market. I heard a lot about the defender and g wagon and while it resembles more of those two vehicles looks wise, id say the heart of the vehicle and the capabilities it brings, aligns more of the wrangler. I was even looking for a Wrangler reference when you were displaying the “Grenadier” on the sides of the hood; it literally came straight from a wrangler and has almost identical font lol overall great review but id be curious on its performance compared to a rubicon.
