  • The Ford F-650 Super Truck ($300,000) is a modified straight-frame F-650 with a 6.7 L turbo diesel engine, making 330 horsepower and 750 lb ft of torque. It has a massive fuel tank, custom wheels, and lots of other bespoke Super Truck additions. But how is it to drive on the highways and streets in a city like Toronto? Thomas and James are excited to take this F-650 Super Truck on a mini Throttle House Adventure! We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.

But why doesn't it (or as he said "a diesel engine") not bring down your speed when you just let off the gas? Was that a joke or are the diesel engines different in North America. I drive a 3 liter diesel daily and it engine brakes like any other normal car.
I've also driven a few semi trucks. When I let off the gas, yes the engine brings down the speed just like a 1.6 toyota does. European truck have a separate foot switch for extra downhill engine braking in place of the American Jake brake but otherwise the engine works like in any normal car. So what is he on about?

A Jake Brake opens the engine exhaust valves at the top of the compression stroke to release the stored energy. It is much more effective than an exhaust brake.
The exhaust brake on your test truck just raises backpressure so the engine has to do more work on the exhaust stroke to expel the exhaust gases.
    Nerdy Bit Of Trivia:
Clessie Cummins, the founder of Cummins Engine Co., invented the Jake Brake. He invented it long after he had been maneuvered out of his own company, but gave them the opportunity to manufacture it. They turned him down, so he sold the invention to Jacobs Manufacturing, who named it the Jake Brake.
