- The 2023 Corvette C8 Z06 ($106,000 in the US, $128,000 starting in Canada) aspires to achieve a formidable goal: to slay supercar titans and crush its competition for a fraction of the cost. The mad scientists at Corvette say they designed it to have both the soul of a Ferrari 458 and the clinical speed of a Porsche GT2 RS. An extremely bold claim.
670 horsepower. 8600 rpm redline. This is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in any production car ever. Will it be able to live up to its mighty expectations? Thomas and James aim to find out. We hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!

In the day and age of boosted cars and moving to EV's a 670hp from a 5.5 n/a V8 is absolutely incredible.
I'm just hoping that this "Corvette" (lol) doesn't follow it's rear-engine Euro counterparts as far as reliability is concerned. Listening to Thomas talk about the "dancing valves" that make the sound awesome just made me think of how many thousands it will cost when one goes wrong.
The one thing I always loved about Corvettes was what Jay Leno said about them. "You get supercar performance with Chevy Cobalt pricing." I hope the new Vettes don't turn out to be mechanic's dreams.
Wouldn't mind it being a supercharger. Turbos are just overrated
@@Sahadi420 Just buy the pushrod one then
@@Sahadi420 The lamborghini Huracan and R8 which will be the closest competetors are EXTREMELY reliable
What's so unbelievable about that! Ferrari 458 special got 605 hp out of 4.5 v8 10 years ago! What should be so great about the engine please. Test it against the old 458 special. What is really good is the price, the look from the outside and the sound is also good. The steering wheel is a disaster when driving fast, when you grab it you reach into nothing. The interior is a matter of taste. I prefer to drive my old AMG SL 63 V8 best 6.2v8 sound. Thanks for testing.
Surprised to see you guys were in Pittsburgh! Seems like the weather was, uh, typical.
I thought it was random to have this in Pittsburgh lol
Cloudy? Check. Cold? Check. Windy? Check. Yep, typical Pittsburgh weather. To be fair, there is a couple of nice days there sometime in the summer, right before you go back into winter.

Was shopping for vehicles last days off. (Yes vehicles…me, wife and daughter.). Sales manager was trying to educate me on the new realities of the automotive business…no inventory to maintain and vehicles pre-purchased before delivery and in one case a year long wait. I laughed at him and told him that I was patient…eventually a manufacturer would have cars on the lot that I could see-touch-smell-drive and buy and that is the one I would purchase because they have it wrong…I don’t want to purchase a vehicle with my money…they want to purchase my money with a vehicle and I’m not in a rush to sell my money. Which brings me to the new Corvette and dealership markup. When the new one first came out I was going to order one but I couldn’t find a dealer that would sell one for sticker price so being the cantankerous old curmudgeon that I am (and being very adverse to getting ripped off) I assured the salesman that not only wouldn’t I buy a marked up Corvette from his dealership but my wife’s next SUV and my next new truck would also not be a GM product because of their greed. Which is the same thing I told the Mazda dealer in the eighties (many new vehicles ago) when they tried to do the same thing with the Miata and I haven’t looked at a Mazda since.
@@hoonsenior6963 McMulkin (and others in the top 10) will sell you a Corvette at MSRP. You just have to hurry up and wait the 12-18 months for delivery. If you had went ahead and put your order in when the C8 came out, you'd be driving one right now.

Gm didn't make this engine c8r aka z06
This is the Car Review I have been waiting for since I found out what type of engine was going in the C8 Corvette.......I am not disappointed ONE BIT. This is officially SUPERCAR status, and I love every single, bend, crease, intake, exhaust pipe, and sound out of this car. BRAVO GM, you have created one of the Best New Cars in the Entire World.
As much as I absolutely love this corvette, I still think Suzuki is who the world should be on the lookout for. A couple people have managed to take the motor out of the Hayabusa and put 2 of them together to form a V8 and it’s an absolute monster. A 3.6L V8 making 600+HP….. Like this corvette it might not have a lot of torque but that amount of HP is no joking matter.
calm down, its one of best in America but not in entire world, when optioned this reaches GT4RS/GT3 price level and both of these superior as some reviwers mentioned in terms of sound and driving feel.

I can tell u from experience, this car is amazing and I highly recommend it. I own several super cars in gran turismo and the corvette is my fav!
Again, a very detailed... no, I must correct that -- another detail rich review by you guys. Most excellent job in analyzing with a level head such an emotions' stirring sport automobile.
Just one note, to put things in perspective: you mentioned, almost with a disappointment tone, that the torque is not that impressive at 460 lbs/ft, yet my 2010 CAMARO SS only throws out about 420 lbs/ft from its LS3 engine, however I can easily keep up with, and then leave behind many different high performance sports cars (and pretend-sports-crossovers), even several years newer, without intently putting the engine and transmission in its best output range... that is, without actually trying hard.
And this comes from a muscle car that weights exactly 4000 lbs. with me on board and a full tank of fuel.
I'll bet that in a much, much lighter platform, such as the Z06, which revs even faster and easier to facilitate putting and keeping the engine in its hp/tq sweetspot, 460lbs/ft must feel like you're strapped to a Saturn V going right at Max Q.
I'm sure that I, and most folks, will not feel any disappointment whatsoever driving that fine Chevy stallion.
Once more, kudos to you for an informative and entertaining review!
It isn’t “much much lighter”. It is close to the weight of your Camaro.
@@flyjbaker Really??
I assumed it would be much lighter.
I also own a 4th Gen F-Body, with the 4L60E transmission (much quicker, but also heavier than the Tremec manual) and that one weights about 3,750lbs.
I figured that, despite the added weight of the several heath exchangers and their fluids, being a two seater with extensive use of alloys and smaller displacement engine, the Z06 would be between 3,550 and 3,650.
Guess I didn't factored in that all that advanced tech specific to the Z06 exacts a price in mass as much as it does in currency.
Thanks for the heads up!
@@TheFlashSpeedforce yep. Comes in right around 3700. Maybe a smidge under….3670. It is a big car with big wheels and tires and not much to really shave off any weight. I wish GM would get rid of the 2 golf bag philosophy and shrink the car a little.

Imagine What G.M. could do if they committed to create a 100% focused sport version of the Corvette... Damn all other considerations!! Disregard all the 'utility' factors!!
Other manufacturers venture into that kind of product, but always in very limited numbers we must recognize.
Perhaps the marketing execs and the bean counters at G.M. do not feel such a small production fits their model business and/or justifies their effort.

The reason for the punchy torque across the whole rev range is the magic they're working with the intake. They can selectively open and close valves that allow them to modify the amount of torque the engine makes at a given time, so they find the right combinations for each rpm and switch between them as the engine revs up and down.
And that plenum valve system always fails on Audis, etc that had them. Of course only after 6+ years usually

I'm sorry, what's an extended 10th interval? Is that like parallel fifths or a third above the root or something?
In reality it is very subjective and individual. There really isn't a better or worse sound since you can say "this octave is better than this one". Of course there are horrible and beautiful exhausts sounds but there isn't something like "the most pleasing exhaust interval possible".

LFA has the V10 grunt and it’s extremely high pitched, this Z06 engine is awesome but not even close to the LFA sound
L on that comparison bud. sorry
6:07. I said it has a 'quality,' not an exact likeness. It's a characteristic of the physical sound design, hearing the inner workings wind up and scream as the air rushes in. Just as you hear in the LFA.

@@LFshlevin sure you are comparing old models with the c8z the current ferrari base models have over 700hp even the c7 zr1 back in its time at the nurburgring where it really matters it was slower than the competition
You guys really feel like a modern age Top Gear. I can always expect quality and fun times whenever I click a TH video.
Ever notice how everyone that really appreciates fast, great sounding and good looking cars act..."always wow, smiles ear to ear and become overjoyed"... instant childlike moment! 🤗😁
Boys - not only are you one of the first reviews for the C8Z - you are the best. Well done and let’s GO!
What an absolutley amazing piece of machinery. I currently own a C5 Z06 and thought I'd never see another Z06 I'd love but I love this one. Even that Acceleration Yellow is amazing. Thank you GM for keeping the spirit alive.
I have a torch red 02 Z. Best money I ever spent on a used car!
One thing, ok, two things the c5z06 has over the C8… manual transmission and pop up, up and down headlights.
@@rickhunter6513 another thing, it doesn’t cost $150,000.00. I bought my C5ZO6 in 2014 for 22 grand with 9,000 miles on it!
@@vitocorleone6925 I guess at that price that would be considered frosting on the cake
😂🍻
@@rickhunter6513 Yo, dat was da cake. flew from So Cal to Vegas and drove it back the same f’n day. It was awesome.
Thank you Corvette for this fantastic asequible supercar 😍😍
not 1 c8 z06 is leaving the dealership at 100k lol
This generation of ZR1 gonna be insane maybe we might get lucky and it may make 800 hp finally after like 8 generations of fiberglass body sports cars 👀
Literally just said the same thing to myself lol
Between 800 an 900 hp the zora will be pushing like 1100hp
I haven't watched a video about a brand new car, that has given me Goosebumps from my first intro to it.
What a glorious fantastic soundtrack.
Hell yeah GM, go show em what real cars should be like now.
Wonderful video people at TH, your production and videography are truly top notch!
I have not been entertained so well since Top Gear on BBC and just like TG, it has absolutely nothing to do with cars. Thanks so much!!!
One of the best car sounds I have ever heard.
I know it's a BIG ask but it would be so cool to see the C8 Z06 compared head to head vs the 458 Speciale. Would be one hell of a comparison video if you can find one.
You could buy two of these for one 458 Speciale. Kind of highlights the value for money a 'vette is!
@@davecom3 the Vette like all Vettes will depreciate much faster.
@@rivercityrambler7751 who cares your paying 1/3 the price for more performance. And Z06 hold their value very well.
@@craigthescott5074 no they don't. The problem with Corvettes and their depreciation is that the market is polluted with then which tanks their ability to hold resale value.
Unless it is a special model they really don't hold their value well at all.
The market on all vehicles right now is currently upside down but in normal times they do in fact depreciate massively.
It is a well known.
The only Vette I ever bought that I made money on was a 69 Convertible.
@@rivercityrambler7751 you need to look at the current market my C7 Z06 is worth more than I paid for it and the C8’s bring more used also. They will never appreciate like a Ferrari but they are not going down in value.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate what amazing content Thomas and James bring for us? I absolutely love their videos. Love from India.
not as good as the Hagerty. Not even in the same league
Yes Bro I love these two nuts 😊
No.

THE BEST VIDEO ABOUT Z06 period
Stunning car, looks as good if not better than 99% of cars out there.. both interior and exterior, couple that with the performance at the price point then Wowwww!!! I want one!
honestly - I don't care about most of the cars you guys review. However you guys are so damn entertaining, knowledgeable and relatable - I watch every single thing you guys put out. even the track tests. and the extra house. lol. Never stop!
You guys are truly the successor to top gear. Keep up the great content!
Mannnn, when I started the video I thought to myself, "I can't believe I'd rather watch Throttle House than the new Top Gear". TH has certainly kept the classic Top Gear spirit alive.
They just need their 3rd musketeer now 😂
Nice to see you guys visit my local track!
Excellent production! Thank you. We live vicariously in your vids. If that makes any sense.
The production on this video is off the charts. I’d pay to watch a video like this
you did if you watched the ads
My god, the sounds! Unbelievable in every way. What a work of art!
Love everything you guys do
This is the Corvette I've been waiting for. The purist in me still misses my C5 but darn if I'm not thoroughly impressed by this piece of art and machinery.
You guys just nail the unveiling of a thorough review and make it a wonderful occasion. Thank you
Omg that V8 sounds amazing! Imagine how insane the ZR1 will be
As someone who works for Chevy, just wait until the Zora
I am lucky to get a fairly cheap price on a 21 Z51. It's my first time owning a high end sport car(drove several from friends) and easily becoming my favorite. Really want to daily it tbh, GM really did it!
You guys outdid yourselves this time, new level of production quality unlocked! :D
genuinely so happy just watching this
The sound of the helmet hitting the A pillar in the intro makes me laugh every time. Love your videos guys. Thanks for doing the work.
Been seeing them daily here in Michigan and I LOVE THEM! I’m so happy they brought back the quad center exhaust it looks perfect in person! It sounds mean even at idle. Even in comfort mode or perhaps eco it sounds great too! Not too loud, but still has that high pitch
Wish I was rich enough to own one of these so I could support the people that worked on this masterpiece
Unfortunately the dealerships are going to overprice this car into the ground 😪, such a shame it is the super car for the masses!
My understanding is that most Chevy dealers are going $90K over on them. Great 😢
It’s only 100k. You don’t need to be rich to have one of these….
@@LP-bt4jk you do when your dealership add another 50% to it.
@@LP-bt4jk you don’t have to be rich to have a 100k car? Bro what?
Corvette’s are taking over the game! Imagine the next 2 models!!!!
Who else agrees??
The Z06 gives me the same chills that the LFA did with it's exhaust note. It's so ADDICTIVE hearing it chase the redline. What an absolute masterpiece!
Flat plane crank engines sound so good, remember the first GT350R I sat on and that high rev scream was glorious!
Was abt to mention Ford implemented the flat plane crank in their V8
@@lilsalai548 sadly the gt500 monstrosity replaced such beautiful yet faulty Voodoo engine.
@@makatron no seriously, I didnt know
Too bad you can’t get the z06 with a stick.
@@bryanclark407 yeah such shame, a good 6 speed stick would be perfect for it.
Fantastic review. This almost seems like it has the sounds to become the audio-spiritual successor to the LFA. And it just seems like such an exceptional car all around. Just amazing!
Woah, woah, woah. Let's not be hasty, Archie.
Successor of LFA 🤣🤣🤣
Not even close
Omg lol. Ok, so for any car since the LFA, name one STOCK production car that 100%, unequivocally sounds FAR superior to this. I’ll wait.
@@archipelago93 no need to. Comparing to LFA is pure stupidity
