- I get asked a lot how much did I pay to get the Hammer Performance 1250 kit installed? In this video, I'm going to break down ALL the costs that I incurred from purchasing the Hammer 1250 kit, the Dynojet power vision, installation and all the other costs.

I think any upgrade is good, these motorcycles are a great hobby and there’s no end, I’ve been racing and riding since I was 8 and I’m a retired Harley-Davidson mechanic for Washington DC presidential motors and still ride and have been buying, changing things on my motorcycles still to this day so I think you did a great thing
Great video my friend. I enjoyed it very much, especially the wild photography at the end. I can't figure out how you did it but that was fantastic.
Thanks jack. I really appreciate that. It’s a 360 camera so you can get some wild angles.
I have the Hammer 1275 with a Mikuni 42 on my '96 883 Low. I did the kit myself with my own headwork and cams. I think all said and done it was about $1350 for the kit with Dynatek ignition plus $300ish for the Mikuni and jet kit to tune it. It was worth every penny. Bike pulls incredibly hard even riding 2 up. Has no problem picking up 5th gear at low speed all the way to 100+ mph.
Actually correction, the kit shipped was $1,097 from Hammer in April 2020.
@@6sillygtivr dang that thing must shred! If I could go back I would do the 1275 with all the fixings to eek out more HP. But then again at that point I may as well just get a new bike. Still debating this.
I was researching hammer performance, they are absolutely amazing products! Very solid and prices are fairly cheap!!!! Comparing to Harley dealer ship of course! Thanks for sharing bad ass hog too!!!!
Its a perfect upgrade to the 883,and helps keep insurance cost down as well in certain areas
Yep! My insurance didn’t change at all because...they dont know lol
@@IronBornRider just means they won't pay out the increase value if something happens, they could also deny your claim altogether Then increase future premiums. But that is only if something happen.
Good production! Also, if you truly want to protect the investment and do right by the engine, this is what you do in regards to proper break-in protocol on a new engine or big bore:
10-40 Amsoil for heat cycling, absolutely no idling- ten cycles, then change oil!
20-50 for break-in, 50 miles - NO MORE - then change oil!
20-50 for 50-400 miles, then change oil!
20-50 for 400-1000 miles, then change oil!
Redline 20-50 or 20-60 or Amsoil 15-60 for after the above 1000 mile oil change.

Thanks midnight!
Cool video filming!!
Thank you!
Appreciate the videos brother getting more and more knowledge from the man who knows even though I’m 3 years late. Been researching more and more. I don’t know if it’s because of inflation or what but the hammer kit has jumped 2x the price at $1,690 😮😮😮. The only one I saw that is near the price you paid was the S&S Cycle 1250 kit. Do you know anyone or anything about these? Do you still recommend Hammer in retrospect after not having the 883 anymore or another brand like S&S or H-D (they have the screaming eagle 1200 kit I saw)? Thanks brother.
I have also only been riding for about a year. Alittle under too be honest. So Ive got no great words of wisdom on it. If you like it cool. I know I have not let a month go by where i havent changed omodified my bike somehow. and Im sure ill always adjust any bike i get to be more comfortable and or more fun. I would encourage you to give a try doing some of the mods yourself. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for the comment! I do some of the simpler mods on my own, and I like the idea of getting to know my bike by working on it. There’s a satisfying feeling you get when you do it yourself.
I've been thinking about that 1250 kit since I bought my Sporty back. I still have my Powervision tuner 😎👍
It’s been the best mod by far for my sporty. Really brought the bike to life. Hope you’re doing well DC!
@@IronBornRider check in almost a year later how’s it feeling? Still running good? I need a year after review. Thinking about doing mine.
@@Eric-kd9cg I just traded that bike in for a low rider s (couldn’t pass up the deal). However my iron was still going strong with no issues whatsoever. Best bang for the buck in terms of performance mod on the iron.
@@IronBornRider I’m just about to attempt to take off the cylinder head right now any tips to getting those off?
@@Eric-kd9cg sorry I can’t help you there. I had my mechanic do the job for me. There should be a bunch of videos on RUclips to walk you through though.
My Iron883 pretty mich stock right now. I just have an amazon slip-ons added for the loud noise. If I wanted to convert it to 1275, Do I need to buy a better exhaust and also air intake? Thank you
I think that's recommended prior to a 1275 kit. Hammer performance has a really good details around what you might need.
The stock 883 heads worked with the 1250 kit. I thought they wouldnt work from what I read online? Was that price including any cams or clutch spring tuner install and flash. Just wondering
Didn’t include any of those unfortunately
What are the pros & cons of picking the 1250 over the 1275? Is one more Street able than the other or is it just a price point decision
The only pro of 1250 Is that it’s cheaper, that’s why I went for the 1250. If I could do it over I’d go for the 1275 with cams and head work.
Is there a big price difference between the 1250 and the 1275 kits?
Hi Teri, I don’t think it’s a big difference. In hindsight I probably wouldve gone with a 1275 but I didn’t think the extra 25cc was going to be all that noticeable.
@ 8:07 this dude proves that the earth is not flat.
Does the 1250/1275 kit keep it from SCREAMING at highway speeds??? My 883 in 5th gear is loud af on the highway.
I find that it smoothes it out and makes it really comfortable to cruise at highway speeds. I was doing 70mph on 4th gear at yesterday and I felt fine. I switched to 5th gear to make it even more comfortable and to lower the rpm. So my answer would be yes.
IronBornRider Thanks man. Yeah mine is a 2018. I need more power or I’m just gonna get a softail...
@@mrvtew yeah at some point I'd like to get either a streebob or a lowrider s. For now the sporty is just a lot of fun and its fast enough for how I ride.
@@IronBornRider well, that makes sense as a lot of riders switch to a slower bike when they get old.
@wesley peterson I have 883 gearing on my 1997 running hammer 1275 kit. Converted to chain. Have not been to Fontana because of covid track closing. But with the same gearing when it was a 1250 with stock xb heads I have run 11.62 at 116 mph through the traps in 4th gear.
Do i need to do anything to my stock 883 before i do the 1250 kit
I don't believe so. But you do need to get the tuner and have hammer performance send you the tune file if you haven't done it already.
I’m also in the Baltimore/DC area.. can you share the mechanic that did you install?
Look up nomad motor co on Facebook. He’s based out of Baltimore. His name is Kyle
@@IronBornRider you d man!

I got the S&S 1250 hooligan Cam kit stage 4 and there isn't much that touches it out the gate. Eating crotchrockets out the gate
Hey man I had some questions:
1. Where’d you get the sissy bar. It’s sick.
2. Why did you go with the 1250 kit as opposed to the 1275?
3. Did you say you were in the Poughkeepsie area? I am in Jersey and have had the same issue getting some pricing for the install.
Hopefully I’ll hear back from you. Greta video and ride safe !
Aaron Amorim hope this helps. Answers below:
1. The sissy bar is from a guy named Edward Richie and you can find him on Etsy. He makes great quality sissy bars.
2. Mostly cost related, I felt like the 1250 was going to get me enough power
3. I’m in Maryland near Washington DC. It’s pricey for the install, but I found a guy that started his own business and was giving some really good pricing. He was a tech for H-D for a while and wanted to branch out. He even came out to my house to install it and had all his own tools for the job.
Good luck with the kit upgrade, make sure you get the power vision tuner or else you won’t be able to tune the bike properly.
IronBornRider thanks for all the info man. Would you be able to tell me the guys shop or contact info to see what it would be ? Also, after you broke the bike in for 500 miles w the tuner, do you still need the tuner equipped or can you ride without it ?
Aaron Amorim he has a Facebook page nomad motor co. You can remove the tuner after the break in but a lot of ppl leave them on to see other info (e.g mpg)
Fuel pak is already on my bike....gonna leave it on.
I’m on the fence to do this to my 2003 883. Drop $2k into a bike worth $2k. I just moved to Colorado and the 883 can’t handle the hills.
For what it’s worth it totally made the 883 a beast and made it a blast to ride. Dramatically changes the bike, I’d recommend it.
But for 4 grand you will have an
ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SPORTSTER that will put an INSANE GRIN 😜on yours & everybody else's face everytime you ride it 🤯
and you can keep it for years to come & hand down to someone .
Or , for 7-9 grand you could purchase a newer , bigger , more advanced Harley that will be like a million others out there .🥱
Did the price on the kit go up? Its like $1800 now
Oh wow. I guess everything went up
What cowl is that
It was from amazon. Krator fairing I believe.
I already have a 1200 kit on it. Would it be worth to get the 1250?
I personally wouldn’t, my friend has a 1200 kit and it’s pretty comparable.
1275 kit with ring gap 1100$ install time including disassembly 4hrs.
Obviously heads, cams, pipes are separate, no shipping isn't free, no you don't need dyno jet, I'm running ultima programmable ignition and a cv45 carb that's jetted, 2003 sportster, I cut all stock wires off run separate ignition and a carb ..... it's simple yet reliable
The basic kit from hammer is 1,700. I don’t know what deal you got but you did.
check out the buell super cruiser too
I’m on the wait list 😀
@@IronBornRider awesome glad to here it if you didnt know and you wanted a low rider i was like bro you gotta check this one out if you got the money to go for it. hope you get one and do some great content with either platform honestly i run a iron 883 currently myself and love it im swinging on the fence of do i leave it alone upgrade it or flip it into a lowrider or street bob used few years old. love the sportster myself so much hard to get rid of it so im leaning to keep it and add another to the garage lol
Is it fast?
It’s fast enough for me. Definitely has a good amount of pick up.
@@IronBornRider How much horsepower?
@@270cloud never dyno'd it but it should be anywhere from 70-80hp
Let’s also talk about another helmet. 😂
We don't talk about that 'round here 😂

Another YABOB (Yet Another Blacked Out Bike) and a YABOT (Yet Another Blacked Out Truck)
Are you CRAZY?? You spent more upgrading an 883 to a 1200 than it would have cost to just buy a 1200. Plus you would have gotten real 1200 gearing, and the resale value would be SUBSTANTIALY more. I would actually pay more for a stock 883 than for a highly modified 883/1200/1250 whatever. You never know whether the job was done right or not. Oh, and by using the 1250 kit with stock 883 heads, you also raised the static compression ratio, making it mandatory to use premium fuel. The next owner may not like that. And will the 883 engine be a reliable and long lasting with the 1275 kit as it was stock? Something I would want to know if I was buying a modified used bike. I think you just shot yourself in the foot. You spent $2K to lower the resale value of a perfectly good bike.
Blacked out bikes/trucks/cars are popular for a reason. For me personally it suits my style/aesthetic but yeah it's not very original. I still like it. I have my reasons for going 883 to a 1250, but I can understand from your perspective. In terms of reliability, the hammer kit is as reliable as they come, haven't had any issues so far. Also had a certified harley tech install it, but its not uncommon for people to install it themselves as it's pretty straight forward from what I've read.
Gerald, clearly you don't "get it". Not everything in this world is about money or resale value, sometimes it's purely about maximizing the fun factor. For a lot of us, if we were that worried about resale value we wouldn't have bought a bike in the first place.
