    Great job guys. If you can just turn up volume of the videos a little bit more up that would be great. Lots of us watch this videos on phones and volume is low by default. My 1250 is running great . I would like to be sure you will manage to resupply us with new pistons and rings in future. I dont have any connection with Hammer Performance but personally i can assure all of the people who are thinking about buying kits from Hammer that Hammer P products are top notch quality. I am overseas and our mechanics and machinists say same thing when they get in touch and test this goods. Carrillo pistons are really good. Personally i run flat tops in Lightning dual plugged heads and i couldnt believe motor response after putting this jugs... it can not compare to 883 performance not even my XL1200S 1998 stock wasnt close to this performances. I think every owner would be very pleased with 1250 and 1275 kits. It makes your 883 imidiatelly competitive to every big twin out there. I can outrun most of classic riders of Japanese sport bikes on a street light. They just can not keep up with torque of a Harley Davidson Sportster in start. Thsn they get confused how a tractor can perform like that. ;-) LIKE IT ALOT. All the best. @tattooglisha

      Thanks! You know the funny thing about that blooper, that was actually our second take. Right in the middle of the first take, a train went by! Our shop is near some railroad tracks and a crossing and of course the train's horn completely drowned us out. So we had to do the whole thing all over again, and then we got to the end, and HAMMER Dan had asked me to say that stuff and I'll be damned if I could remember exactly what I was supposed to say! Oh well, glad everyone enjoys it!

    The staff at Hammer Performance are awesome. I was confused about their big bore kits and how the different packages worked so I gave them a call. The gentleman that spoke to me (sorry but I forgot his name) spent a good 1/2 hour explaining how the kits work and the process of getting your heads ported by them. I was considering the 120HP 1250 kit but that was before I saw this video and learned about the 1275 kit. Now I will definitely go with the 1275 kit for my 2013 Sportster 48. Keep up the excellent work boys!

    I was reading on your site a bit about the 1250 and 1275 kits, says that I can retain my stock 883 heads with the kit, but I would like to know if that means when I change out my heads do I need to change pistons out again? I plan to stay with a flat top style piston due to cost on head work

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  5 лет назад +1

      883 heads have very small 49cc chambers, and if you run flat tops under those chambers then your compression ratio will be about 11.8:1. To run flat tops under 883 heads with a pump-gas friendly compression ratio you have to hog out the chambers and make them bigger. But this is a terrible way to do a conversion because you lose the squish band. The best way to do a conversion is to use a reverse dome conversion piston. By putting a dish into the middle of the piston, you bring the compression ratio down to pump gas friendly levels while still maintaining a squish band around the perimeter of the chamber. This is why reverse dome conversion pistons are far and away the most common way to do a conversion. Watch this video for more information: ruclips.net/video/F9d-AJ3R6Js/видео.html
      So the answer to your question is that you really need a different piston to run a stock 883 head as opposed to a stock 1200 head.
      Furthermore, when you do head work in conjunction with big cams, you need to change pistons again. That's because regardless of whether you're talking about an 883 head or a 1200 head, the chambers have to be made bigger to make room for bigger valves and high overlap cams and have all the clearances you need. Making the chambers bigger causes the compression ratio to drop unless the pistons are changed to match. Watch this video for more information: ruclips.net/video/flgdYTCfXuU/видео.html
      Bottom line is that pistons, cams, and heads need to be a matched set. You can't move any of those three very far without bringing the other two along. This makes it really expensive to build a motor incrementally over time because you end up buying some parts twice. Not the answer I want to give, believe me, we get asked about this every day, because guys want to spread out the cost over time. But I can't change the laws of physics.
      What we recommend is to pick a power level and build toward it, and do it only once even if that means saving your money for awhile. We offer six different packages that are designed to deliver anywhere between 70+ to 120+hp, time tested and proven to deliver their power levels in the most cost effective way possible. Each is a carefully matched combination of parts and services. You can read about them here: www.hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml#packages

    I finally have some money to get my 2003 Sportster converted to a 1200 +. I would like to go as big as I can, within reason, price wise, and not having to mill out the case. I'm guessing that it would be better to use the 2004 & newer cylinders, but I don't know. Is it, and what is the caveat to it that you mentioned? I am trying to do this very soon. Any information that you can give me would be great. Also, I heard someone mention a break in time after putting one of these kits on. What do I need to do?
    I'm watching your video "Converting A Harley Davidson 883 For Big Power". Do I need to change out anything else, like cams or not? Are the pistons sold as part of the kit or not?
    I was told that it's not good to bore out the 883 cylinders. Won't the life of them be much less that the kits, as well as perform less? I'll check out the Tech. Tip section of the website, too.

      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад +1

      To get a 1275 kit for your bike, go here: www.hammerperf.com/xlbigborekits.shtml#1275ordering
      -Choose small fin cylinders
      -Choose the cylinder color of your choice
      -Choose either flat top pistons for about 9.5:1 compression ratio (stock cams) or radius dome pistons 10.5:1 compression ratio (cams with intake close timing more than 46 degrees)
      Also go here: www.hammerperf.com/xlbigborekits.shtml#1275options
      -The ring gapping service, top end gasket set, and ignition are highly recommended
      -The jets and spark plugs are required
      Your stock carb will work fine up to about 90-95hp. You only need to change it out if you're shooting for a number bigger than that.

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад +1

      No case boring required, these are bolt-on kits that can be installed in an afternoon without even pulling the engine out of the frame.
      1200 models do not require a clutch upgrade. Likewise, 1986-2003 883's don't require it. However, all 2004+ 883's do require a clutch upgrade. That's because 883's have been coming with a weak clutch spring since 2004, and the clutch will slip after doing a conversion unless the spring is upgraded to match. A spring is only a $30 item. Most guys however will opt for a full extra plate clutch upgrade, while they're in there. The extra plate clutch kit eliminates the factory spring plate (aka "grenade plate") in the stock clutch that's so failure prone.
      All years and models however require at least some extra pieces, beyond the engine kit alone, for a successful conversion. For a complete list of everything required for a successful 1250 or 1275 conversion, go here: www.hammerperf.com/xlbigborekits.shtml#1275options . The items can also be purchased there.

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад +1

      The Dynojet Powervision is, in our opinion, far and away the best EFI tuner product available for HD applications, nothing else really even comes close. The little display unit makes it much more powerful and easier to use than competing products, and gives it a rich feature set, everything from highly configurable gauges to a simple-to-use autotune function to the ability to read and clear codes to on-the-fly changes, multiple stored tunes at the ready, the list goes on and on. It just blows away everything else on the market. Therefore we chose it to be the primary tuner that we recommend, offer, and support directly with a tune. Other flash-type tuners can be used, but your life will be a whole lot easier if you get a Powervision. Read here for more information: www.hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml#faq6

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  5 лет назад +1

      All 2007+ Sportsters, 883's and 1200's both, have come from the factory with "W" cams. So if the 883 you're talking about is 2007+, then yes, it came with the same cams as a 2017.
      On the other hand, if it's a 91-06 model year 883, then it came with "D" cams, which are a whole different animal.

    Obviously there’s no galling issues with the steel liners? From what I understand, ductile iron is usually used because of its high resistance to galling with the rings

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  Год назад

      There was a bit of a learning curve, but we sorted it out long ago. We've sold several thousand 1275 kits with steel liners since coming out with them in 2017, into all corners of the globe, and they've been enormously successful. S&S and HD both produce steel lined cylinders for Twin Cams, so this technology is not unique to us.

    78 in. /1275 and the 88 In. / 1450 ?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад +1

      Yes, but custom cylinders are required. Really the only reason to go for an odd size is the need to meet displacement limits in a particular racing class.

      @@HAMMERPERFORMANCE and of course custom (3.700) pistons and boring the cases... but I never do anything easy. Just seems to me that 88 / 90 inches on that bottom and transmission is pushing the limits. And I don't particularly care for the iron cylinders. Can we get a 4.10 o.d. (or more) liner in the aluminum jugs ?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад

      @@johngilbert6810 I'm sorry, we have nothing available and I'm not aware of anything in the aftermarket to support that. You're talking about an extremely small market and I really doubt anyone has invested in the development of the cylinders. Everyone does 88 or 90ci. The bottom end, primary, and transmission can handle it no problem.

    What web site would you recommend me to buy the heads for my 883 Harley Sportier To convert to 1275 ?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 года назад +1

      There is no need to change your heads when converting to 1275. In fact, the vast majority of 883-1275 conversions are done without changing the heads. See this package for example, it includes everything you need for a successful conversion and it works fine your stock 883 heads: www.hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml#basic . The higher power packages described immediately after that one also use your 883 heads, but those packages require you to send your heads to us for work. That's still a lot cheaper than replacing the heads, though, on a horsepower per dollar basis.

      @@malkiyahyasharel1964 You can see the pricing on the complete conversion package and even order it at this link: www.hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml#basic . That package has everything you need for a successful conversion. You can download the sample quote there for a complete list of what it comes with. As far as installation goes, more than 90% of our customers install it themselves. We've built our business around do-it-yourselfers and we have good instructions and videos to show how it's done. If you want to farm it out, you can probably expect about 7-8 hours of labor due to the fact that your bike also gets a clutch upgrade (included in the package).

    So od on the spigot is 4 inch is that the same as stock?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  2 года назад

      The spigots are stock 3.675 o.d., no case boring required. The 1250 and 1275 are bolt-ons that can be installed in an afternoon without even pulling the motor out of the frame.
      4 inch o.d. spigots are used on 88ci (3.813 bore) and 90ci (3.875 bore) kits. Those kits require a full tear down for case boring.

    how badly does the mpgs drop when doing a conversion??

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  2 года назад +1

      Most customers report an improvement in fuel mileage after the conversion. It makes sense, too, because the motor is more efficient largely due to the increase in compression that typically comes with a conversion. But it's a difficult thing to quantify because there are so many variables, so it's not a claim we make.

    Would the 1275 kit work for 2009 XR1200 ?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  5 лет назад

      Yes, we have many customers who've successfully installed the 1275 kit onto their XR1200. It uses a little different head gasket from a standard 1200, but it's otherwise the same kit. We provide the correct gaskets with the kit. Also be aware that we do not offer the gray color cylinders like the stock XR1200 models came with. Most XR1200 owners go with straight black instead. If your bike is an XR1200X then we do offer the black highlighted cylinders to match. You must also use a capable flash tuner. We recommend and offer the Dynojet Powervision and support it directly with a tune, so your life is a lot easier if you go with a Powervision. And finally you must also run the spark plugs we specify, which are actually the 10R12X Gold plugs that were stock in XR1200 and certain Buell models, part number 27794-08.
