    I wonder if Placidusax going from 5 heads to 2 is meant to be symbolic. Before that, we have perfect order; 5 being the number that the 2 and 3 fingers add up to, the number of digits on a dragon's hand, and also the number of fingers the GW bestowed on the Beastmen when it granted them intelligence.
    Then Bayle's attack shattered the perfect order in the Lands Between and introduced chaos, thus reducing the perfect 5 fingers/heads to 2 and making way for Shabriri to manifest in the 3 fingers.

      Evolution ruined the supposed perfect order, tipping the extremely flimsy "perfect balance," this is pretty accurate from a geneological point of view, many empires lost power as their supposed perfect populations, usually extreme minorities, end up adapting to the environments and interbreeding with other groups, and those traits being claimed as better than disappearing except inban exceedingly inbred and isolated ruling class that ends up having 2 fingered claw hands and tumors instead of looking more "normal." Could all be a reference to that sort of thing, as the Crucible is life, evolution, and mutative energy at it's core, it doesnt care about Order, it is just constantly reactive to the conditions at play

    I have a fond memory of my first fight with Bayle - I was determined to go through the DLC with the new dragon form, so I forced myself to defeat him early, with very few Scadutree Fragments. I finally managed it by using the Bone Bow and the Repeating Crossbow both with bleed projectiles, since those did percentage-based damage. This ranged approach meant I was highly dependent upon Igon to tank Bayle for me, but most of the time he would just monologue and walk around the arena slowly, which inspired the sequence at 50:33. Good times lol
    Please share some of your memorable experiences with the DLC below, I like reading them

    Bayle went to kill Placidusax and considering his strength up till then there was likely nothing that ever caused him trouble. He was sure of himself that he is going to end the dragon lord, but he met his match and was pushed to his very limits.
    At some point after suffering all those injuries, for the first time ever, the thought must have crossed his mind „I might not win. I might actually die here“. And for the first probably ever, he felt fear.
    He was not ready to win or die trying.
    And so he fled the fight of his life….you could say…….he Bayled.

    A theory of mine is that if we look at the way Placidusax's heads are clamped on to the Bayle's back, it looks like Bayle only bit one off during combat and Placidusax was trying it's hardest to prevent Bayle from escaping by constricting Bayle with all the other heads biting onto him which ended up with Placidusax's anger combined with sheer force of Bayle's hatred and will to live resulting in Bayle dragging Placidusax's hardly locked two heads during getting away and ripping them off in the process.
    Another thing I find cool is that forever clamped down heads of Placidusax on Bayle's back symbolizes how he is constantly getting bothered by the forces Placidusax created just to get rid of him and his descendants.

    I honestly thought Placidusax was the only big dragon fight they were giving us in Elden Ring. When I first saw the Jagged Peak in the distance I thought to myself "I know there won't be an epic dragon in this dlc but if there was, that's where we'd fight it". I remember seeing the vista of the peak as I approached a lonely shack by the edge of a cliff. This shack being home to a ghost that spoke of vengeance, and a talisman depicting the dragon who wounded the Dragonlord. The Dread Dragon whos anger causes the very mountain's molten fury to seethe beneath him. I was so glad to be wrong. Honestly a defining moment of my playthrough. What an amazing experience to discover Bayle and his story. What a titanic and unforgettable encounter.

There are also 4 greater dragons in the Farum azula, probably there to protect the dragon lord or be on his side. N they probably fight once in a while. Considering there god's nor their dragon lord is there they are probably weaker in keeping up with the massive hordes of drakes. N now that the land is vanished in the shadow realm, the drakes can't go back to their master or father bayle.

    i just love the use of accents in this game. Welsh for Carians (including albinaurics), received pronounciation for marika's bloodline (melina, malenia, morgott etc), northern/working class accents for tarnished (unfortunately does play into the stereotype/trope of working class accents being contrasted against regal, holy, posh accents) and now the european accent of Florissax which conveys her nature as a dragon - her accent conveys her nature as a being unique and separate from mankind, whereas all the humanoids have some form of british accent, the ancients dragons have european ones. i also love the way she pronounces "placidusax".

    My time with Igon was a blessed one.
    I love how he’s introduced as this guy just moaning in despair. Then we stumble across two dragons fighting each other. If your first instinct is, “Neat. I’ll kill ‘em both,” you’re rewarded for your efforts with a hearty chuckle from Igon alerting you to his presence. I remember looking around like, “Who is laughing at me?”
    So after killing those dragons, I walk over to Igon to see what the hell this dude is laughing at. He compliments me on being a Drake warrior like himself, and tells me about Bayle. He asks that I summon him to fight Bayle because his body is broken but his spirit can be summoned to help.
    Just hearing how much Igon needed this kill made me break my oath of never using summons during that playthrough. My character was a cold-blooded assassin who didn’t want any help and would rather kill anybody who noticed her in the first place. No witnesses. But something about Igon’s hearty speech and deep desire to slay Bayle made me think my assassin might chuckle right there with him and agree.
    And OH HOLY HELL am I glad I did. “CURSE YOU, BAYLE!!!”
    Igon made the entire Bayle fight a million times better. We succeeded and I made sure Igon didn’t die. Best fight and best NPC.

    One interesting thing I haven't seen brought up about the massively dead drake near the Land of Shadows dragon communion is the fact that ancient dragons were known to use weapons. When wielding their glaives, stakes and bolts they use their five hands to wield instruments. Even more to this point, The Bolt of Gransax is actually described as a weapon whittled from Gransax's weapon, the massive one we see in Leyndell. So it's clear ancient dragon's had the capabilities to wield weapons of mass destruction, which is logical given the hands were granted to their beast-men worshippers.
    I also trhink the beast-man were granted just enough intelligence to practice faith and that's how the golden order made use of them, but that's a story for another day. Great video Vaati!

To us humans such a convoluted plan would seem needlessly complicated and prone to failure, making such a wait to see it bear fruit seem unfathomable. But to Placidusax, who is immortal, it feels like only yesterday that he came up with it and put it to the test, such a wait for him and other immortal dragons is rather trivial.

    I think it's important to note that the game says Placidusax's God *was* fled, not that Placidusax's God fled.
    "Fled" typically means that you or someone ran away from something. One definition on Merriam-Webster says it could mean "to pass away swiftly." I'm not sure if there's some sort of translation issue from Japanese to English here, but if you heard "pass away swiftly" I'm sure you'd likely think "died quickly" or "died suddenly." However in this context I think "was fled" is more so meant to be another way of saying "was vanished." Vanishment was forced onto this god. They're not quite dead, didn't exactly leave on their own, but suddenly gone.

    • @DjDolHaus86
      @DjDolHaus86 Месяц назад +3

      Bayle inflicted such grevious wounds that Placidusax was forced to go into stasis to avoid dying. Once in stasis he could no longer fulfil his role as elden lord so the god deserted him in favour of finding a new champion. He's hoping his god will return and save him but alas, he waits in vain. Bayle didn't finish the job so he couldn't claim the throne and so the age of the dragons ended and a new age began

    32:36 I see this as a giant crag-blade. The center trench reads like a fuller or "Blood Groove" that you see in swords. and the thinner bit at the tip looks like the tang of a sword blade. And we've seen a weapon of this scale before as well. In Leyndell, Gransax's Bolt is of equal scale, so this looks like it was a weapon wielded by another colossal dragon.

    • @Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad
      @Dr_Evil_Mc-Bad Месяц назад +10

      In fact, what's the chance that Gransax himself was responsible for such a kill? We know that the ancient dragons were present on the Jagged Peak, and it's feasible that there, the Ancient Dragon servants of Placidusax were the ones who were smiting down the drakes (at least for a while). All things considered, the battle between dragons on the mountain would present an opportunity for Lansseax, Fortissax and Gransax to stack up a few kills in retaliation for Bayle's insurgence against the Dragonlord, and pop up in the timeline again. And, if in in this battle, there was the possibility for one of Bayle's greatest descendants - the unnamed colossus drake, to face one of the Dragonlord's greatest champions - Gransax, then it would provide the monstrously large ancient dragon whose size would of been needed to wield such a weapon that smote such a colossal rival.
      Further, It would give a younger Gransax a bit more development, with the idea that he was flying around as a champion of the dragonlord with such a weapon before, much later, he would get his hands on what would become the bolt of gransax when Placidusax eventually hid himself away.

    • @DjDolHaus86
      @DjDolHaus86 Месяц назад +1

      I'm also very much of the opinion that it's not a harpoon. The groove is a fuller which is a feature to remove weight from a blade (not something necessary for spears or harpoons) and it has a tang which again is a feature typical of a sword, spears and harpoons have a cup/socket to attach them to their shaft/handle because a tang would be prone to bending or snapping the shaft when thrust with weight behind it

    "Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men." - My favorite NPC (yes, including Igon)
    He summarizes in a few words the key problem with all of these orders in the lands between, including Miquella's. The key people who lead the order have little or no regard for everyone else, and regard them as disposable pawns.
    Placidusax's order created and spread the process of dragon communion knowing exactly what it would do to the warriors. He was willing to throw any number of people or dragons at Bayle for all eternity.
    Nothing needs to be said about Marika's order. Our entire race exists to support her.
    Miquella considered his order to be the age of compassion. But to achieve it he was willing to brainwash a host of warriors and Radahn+Malenia, discard St Trina, use Mohg like a parts bin.
    For Ranni, at least we can say that she wanted to remove the external forces enslaving the people of the lands between and letting them handle themselves.

      Agreed, this is a great observation, though I may add, that while noble in intention, Ranni's path to establish her order (or lack there of) was in itself riddled with the same kind of manipulations and use of people as pawns, starting with orchestrating the assassination of her own sibling and relegating him to a fate worth than death itself.

      Then, once you go back to the basegame… you find that there’s ANOTHER powerful figure under the Greater Will, who creates the exact same twofinger-like shape, who coincidently ALSO has their God fled from them. Yup, im talking about Placidusax. The fled God of Placidusax isn’t anything other than the Greater Will imo

      If Vaati were to try an Igon/Bayle PTC, he doesn’t need to confine himself to them. E.G. the first half of the video can be the player character Dragon Communion partaker discovering the lustful hunger they have for Dragon Communion, and everything that derives from that - like dragon powers, magma wyms, etc etc. Then the second half would then move onto the WHY. Why does Dragon communion exist? Then Vaati has time to talk about the origins of Dragon Communion which would swiftly take him to Igon, Placidusax, and Bayle.
      Same thing can be done with an Age of Compassion Miquella Prepare to Cry. Vaati doesn’t have to confine himself to the DLC. I’ve got a theory that Placidusax was Lord before the schism of the 2 & 3 Fingers. I think there was an original 5 Fingers, the hand of the Greater Will matching the 5 heads of the dragon. Upon his… not defeat, but lack of victory over Bayle, the 5 Fingers split, possibly partially succumbing to Frenzy at this failure of their Lord. Then whoever was Placidusax’s god, panicked seeing Frenzy that can destroy gods, called down a meteor strike to try to destroy it, and fled into hiding. The meteor blasted Farum Azula into its strange gravity well, but didn’t kill the 3 Fingers, who tried to destroy the god as it fled. The god hid underground and succumbed to its wounds, forming the Deeproot Depths and leaving behind glowing runes in the form of the Erdtree.

      Just a note on Placidusax's "defeat"-
      If his goal was to defeat/kill Bayle, and he failed to do so, he was defeated. That is quite literally a definition of defeat. This is precisely why Malenia's claim that she "has never known defeat" is also wrong. She was sent to kill Radahn, and he yet lives. She was defeated.

      To cause someone or something to fail.

      This is kinda conflicted by a lot of the new finger lore, though. Metyr is way more than 5 fingers and predates the arrival of the Elden Beast star, and we learn that fingers in general are just weird aliens and they're all related to each other. Perhaps Placidusax having 5 heads was auspicious and part of why he was considered pretty smart amongst dragons, but to say he has anything to do with fingers is more of a stretch. The most we can say is that he, like most Elden Lords, may have sought their guidance - but this is not founded nor would it make sense given what we know of draconic society.
      There is a lot that we can't understand regarding the Greater Will and all the strange and somewhat contradictory things it sends to the Lands Between. However, we do know that at some point that all fingers no longer feel the guidance of the Greater Will. I find it more convincing that it's this lack of guidance that lead some fingers - namely three-fingers - to find other prophecies and messages. Most outer gods are discovered in desperation, after all.

      @@zmasterrahlg Indeed, 5 fingers and 5 heads is certainly auspicious - but we know so little and it's very easy to over-speculate compared to sticking with Occam's razor.
      Metyr's lore is the best we've got. We'll need to make sense of how Metyr's lore fits in with the cultures of the Lands Between before we can claim there's lies and inconsistencies that aren't pointed out. She is the mother of all Two Fingers and Fingercreepers, explicitly. How she relates to the Three Fingers remains a mystery, but Occam's razor would suggest that they're at least related. perhaps the Three Fingers were also born from comets like we see in the Finger Ruins, and not born from Metyr. Or they are born from Metyr, and the translation is bad.
      Some lies ARE pointed out - many NPC's allude to the fact that the Fingers no longer sense the messages of the Greater Will. But if we aren't given some hint to the discrepancy, we should not assume one.

    • @monsieurdorgat6864

      Very hard to say for a lot of reasons. The huge drake might still just have the head of whatever's piercing it still lodged inside.
      There's definitely something to that weapon though. I'm somewhat leaning to the idea that the Ruined Forges are not Hornsent constructions, but instead Rauh ruins that poke to the surface. All Ruined Forges have no surface entrances, and are instead forcefully burrowed into by those who want to get inside.
      Regardless, I think we need to figure out what these Ruined Forges are first, which will help us figure out what this sword is actually from and what "Old Gods" it's talking about. "Gods" plural also makes me think Rauh and pre-Elden Ring society, but perhaps it's intended that we can't know.

    I don't understand the reasoning behind the Omen being a "curveball from the Crucible of Life", I have to admit. They're a curse from the Hornsent. It's literally, explicitly stated by the Hornsent Granddam when you kill her before fighting/defeating the Dancing Lion. Their origins are not in the least bit unclear anymore
    Unless you mean the Hornsent themselves? But then why call them Omen...

    • @HeevaEgo

      yup. not everything that grows horns are ‘Omens’. Just the ones that are specifically cursed by the Hornsent people.
      EDIT: I want to make a corrections. Yes, the Omens we see in the basegame are a result of the Curse that the Hornsent put on the Erdtree. But I want to clarify that it’s not confirmed that the Omen curse comes FROM the Hornsent themselves… just that the Omen are a curse put upon by some special people. Omens aren’t a race, nor do they descend from any race. They are a curse

      Funny enough, "curveballs" could probably describe all other Crucible creatures except for the Omen, who were plagued with nightmares and tainted blood in addition to their bodies. All others seem to be random emergences or descendants of Crucible creatures.

    • @monsieurdorgat6864
      @monsieurdorgat6864 Месяц назад +8

      This is probably true, although it doesn't really undermine the points Vaati made later. Maybe a better way to think of it is that the Omen curse was fashioned with the power of the crucible, since it still manifests in the ways that the crucible does. You could even consider it a dark twisting of the crucible - horns that grow fast and painfully and dangerously rather than cleanly and specifically like on normal Hornsent.
      He was also more just saying that the Crucible, being a magical version of the forces of evolution, alters all life on the planet spontaneously. This is an interesting consideration, since it's antithetical to the stasis of Ancient Dragons but also the Golden Order. I like this theory that the Crucible is an indigenous force of the Lands Between, while Order is something more alien.

His strength comes from what he makes, and thats why he has an impenetrable fortress. Radahn is strong, but in a fight against a godfrey clone and morgott? he's outmatched. Queen Marika and all the following Elden Lords are all human in form, on way or another. so it could be that the cosmic essence of the elden beast tries to mimic whatever is the dominant life form, maybe in an attempt to make it not so alien to its vassals.

      But neither Marika nor any of the lords comes from the greater will, and the elden beast didn't change to a humanoid form for her. Queen Marika is human in form and has human lords because she herself is (kinda) human. (Not 100% sure if the shamans are actually considered humans or just look like that, but my point still stands). Marika isn't a creation of the greater will, and I thin it's nothing absurd for her to pick a lord that is like herself.

    I personally like to think that drakes/mortal dragons have evolved to hunt each other, due to the baby drakes in dragonbarrow not dropping dragon hearts, having smaller horns, and lacking fire breath, they're young and recently born.
    Maybe when they reach a certain age they grow the longer, piercing horn to hunt their kin and extract trace amounts of gravel stone, developing fire breath, (and maybe extending their lifespan) possibly leading to them growing and becoming like greyoll and the nameless giant dragon in a final lifecycle stage to produce a litter (greyoll drops 5 hearts, so either its a freak mutation or they have killed)
    Additionally the description for dragon communion flesh (which is crafted from sharp gravel stone, which mentions "ancient" dragons that consume their lesser kin) says that it is AN IMITATION OF DRAGONSCALE FLESH, which drops from jagged peak drakes and mentions "aged dragons", maybe ancient/aged really means older, drakes that have hunted more of their kin and thus gained far more gravel stone, one of the jagged peak drakes is even attacking another drake, perhaps in a form of hunting.
    So baby drake --> adult with horn --> develop dragon heart & fire breath from killing drakes and getting gravel stone --> kill more --> become big from it and produce a huge amount of baby dragons
    Or maybe im reading way too much into the horn on dragons, either way I personally believe that the jagged peak is a cesspool of cannibalism for the drakes to grow strong and mature
