Edit: I probably should clarify that such a sniper would be ineffective against the vehicle or anyone in it. However, there is that brief time when the President is entering or exiting when he is exposed. Good optics would assist in spotting the key vehicles, hence the so-called "low profile" factor does have a purpose.

A friend of mine was a ford mechanic for 20 years, that made him a ford expert. The secret service job paid 120k and you travel with the car full tools and everything you need. If the car dies, you’re fired, if you can’t fix it, you’re fired. The budget and resources were wide open. I know a Lamborghini Ferrari and Aston Martin dealer offered him more to work there, he went for it.
