- This blind shaft test features three different True Temper Dynamic Gold iron shafts: The Dynamic Gold R300, Dynamic Gold S300, and Dynamic Gold X100. It may surprise some golfers to know that while the shaft flex may vary, the weight of each of these True Temper Dynamic Gold is very similar.
In this video, 2nd Swing’s Drew Mahowald and Thomas Campbell conduct a blind shaft test with True Temper Dynamic Golf iron shafts. Can Drew guess them correctly?

So happy to see Thomas back. He really adds so much credibility to these videos. Happy about his new opportunity as well.
What's his new opportunity?
Yes, same question, what new opportunity???
@@ZR_1121 he is now an operations manager of another golf performance center. Im not sure if he is still with 2nd swing tho
I’m thinking this video was probably filmed before his departure
@@nicoyap14 Many thanks for the info, I will miss his input to the 2nd swingYT channel
Great blind test Guys and welcome back Thomas👍👍
This demonstrates why I NEVER a fitter to tell me what they are doing (shaft & settings wise) until the end of the fit, just to ensure that I am only responding to the "feel" and the flight/dispersion and not the info being relayed by the fitter.
i have enjoyed every bit of content these two have put out. i cant believe this channel doesnt have 500k subscribers.
Welcome back Thomas. The dynamic duo bsck at it!!!!!
So interesting. I love this sort of testing. Would a shaft weight also depend on the club head weight?
Thomas? Is Thomas back? 😀
The launch angle was the big difference for me. 2 shafts at around 17* and the other at 14* (and more inconsistent). Looking at the numbers, the X100 seems to suit Drew best (P.S. nice swing speed Drew 👌). Which one did he prefer?
Also, I'd love to see a 6 shaft comparo - light and heavy versions of R, S and X flex to see how a heavy R compares to a light S, etc. It would be interesting to here your (Drew's?) feedback on feel differences and then see the data.
Cheers.
Welcome back Thomas...missed Ya!!
Hey!!!! Thomas is back!!!
If someone is fitted to a specific shaft/iron head, would it be likely that that shaft will work well in a different(but same category like game improvement) brand head?
Hey guys, did you use Taper tip or Parallel shafts in this test? If the shafts are Taper tip, you could tell them apart by looking at the kick points (highest in R, lowest in X). Only if they are UNITIZED (parallel) and you tip trimmed them all properly did you have a fair test! Care to elucidate for us ?
Brilliant to see Thomas again 👍Dickey UK,Would have thought Drew would have talked more about the difference in feel of the Shafts🤔
I'm much more responsive to weight than to flex. Currently using DG 105 stiff. Can't handle full weight R300s... and kudos on consistently great content!
Classic stitch up Thomas! 😂
I was a DG lifer until I tried the LA Golf 120L. Never going back to steel.
How about doing a test of different weights with the same brand and flex? Want to see in terms of clubhead speed and dispersion.
I’ve used project x 6.0 for years. Thinking about the 105 s300. Would that be comparable for me?
There’s such big differences in these. I can tell them apart just by a waggle each. What’s a better test is x flex versions in different brands.
Oh good call - we'll add that to the list
He had quite a quick laggy transition, definitely x100 candidate
Drew did you end up getting i230s?
Smooth easy swing
Wow! Lolololol. Maybe next see if he can detect swing weight changes.
Thomas! His last video?
I’m a high handicapper and have the i230s in the bag with the Alta CB stiff shafts (I’m not a slicer and appreciate the consistency of i230)
Never tried those Dynamic gold shafts…
Stop with steel it is ancient tech go graphite stronger lighter farther more accurate!
@@zarlodious1
Mine are graphite. Maybe you’re talking about the video tho?
@@thehighhandicapgolfer just n general only benefits are ego inflation I used to be KBS 130gram x stiff now in Accea i70 stiff and the graphite of stiff is harder to flex than x stiff steel
@@thehighhandicapgolfer the Dynamic Gold shafts in stiff (124g) are 42 grams heavier than your graphite shafts (82g), which is a big difference. If the current shafts are working for you and you were properly fit for your clubs, there's really no benefit to changing.
@@kevinoneill2170
I’m not changing. Just sharing bc I recently got the i230s and am excited about them. Great clubs
Bit of a strange test (regarding weight) because the weight variations in this lineup are miniscule. But interesting that he really couldn't detect the flex differences.
I'm guessing they filmed this video with Thomas a few weeks/months ago before the end of 2022, and that Thomas is in fact not "back" since he started a new job this month.
Where did he go?
Lol I can’t believe he couldn’t tell
I think I could pass this test, but I would have to hit other shots than regular swings.
How does he get 93 clubhead speed with such and easy swing
Looks like he’s barley swinging
Why choose metal over graphite
Momentum. A steel shaft from the top, comes down and through the ball w’ the momentum of gravity. I’d call 105 steels the momma bear 🐻 of shafts, especially the (R) flex.
Now without CORE MUSCLES of heathy adolescent or College mid life (Men, cuz’ I’m a 66 year old guy..experience answering) - Without a strong healthy core ..people cheat and try to spin their shoulders (at least, I have) and the comfort of graphite shafts (saving your joints at impact) Can be ruined if your graphite purchase has dipped below 95grams because you Yank Spin around and Jank many shots LONG LEFT. - Also I’ll add. IMHO - The Japanese MODUS line of steel shafts are premium. - Secondly - If you haven’t ever hid some JPX Mizuno’s (921/923’s) in a 105 weight (R) ..you have no idea 🤷♂️ Where a good cornerstone of Golf exists. Find a Mizuno fitter at any respectable shop. Club Champion etc. And start from that as your Center, and they will evaluate you from there:) Good Luck
Thomas is back!?? What happened? So happpppy! Don’t leave again!
I dont believe he is with 2nd swing anymore, took another job locally
this is what they do with pga pros. most tour pros actually play regular.
we dont learn anything when they keep poorer shots
