    txg.ca - One of the most common questions when it comes to choosing a new iron set: what's the difference between all these different shafts? We tested 3 different popular models and collected data on the GC Quad launch monitor to show you how they stack up against each other, and what type of player should consider choosing each option.

      Also do u know when the vid about wedge shafts and why people play softer in them as well as playing an actual wedge as your pitching wedge will come out because I do both of those and would love to hear your take on it

    I think what would also be a great addition is testing a specific Iron and all the shaft options. Example: Ping i210 irons can have 9 different shaft options and how do each of those shaft options function within the i210.

    Definitely need to test different shafts for sure. Went to a TM demo day with the intention of getting the P790’s with KBS shafts. Got to test the DG, KBS and Nippon shafts and even though the numbers were not that different for me the feel of the Modus shaft was sooo much better than the others - best of all TaylorMade didn’t charge extra for the non stock shaft. Moral of the story is explore your options. I was very surprised, testing them back to back, how noticeable the feel difference was with each even though they produced such similar numbers.

    Btw One additional comment I would like to add on is the fact that I’ve always been impressed with your videos but I was even more impressed when I got fitted over the weekend and even the professional fitter at Club Champion and PGA Tour Superstore in The Woodlands, TX talked highly about you. That tells a lot. 👍

    I switched from DG back to project x recently with a new set... both perform well but my dispersion is greatly tightened with project x... it just loads and unloads better for my swing dynamics apparently. Numbers are great but like Ian always says, the shaft is a timing device and at the end of the day, that has the most impact on how a player performs with a given shaft. Good stuff Gents!

    Can't wait for these next vids. I recently started playing again after 10 yrs and went from MP 60s in DG 300s to JPX 900 Forged in NS Pro 105s. Really like them and interested in seeing all the different #s and feel that goes into fitting the different shafts. I looked at the TPT driver shafts you guys liked so much in your video with Lindsay Knowlton. Looks awesome, but it's too expensive to even swing. ;-) I think it was you guys who said the "average" male golfer would benefit more from looking at the equipment used on the LPGA than the PGA since swing speeds are more similar. That's certainly true for me.

  • @trijam90

    Great stuff. Can't wait to see more. I was fit for irons a couple of years back and was fit into dg s300 amt, I like the idea behind them but I felt I could feel the weight change (more so on the range). I purchased a used set of modus 3 105 off a forum website and installed them myself and found the lighter shaft felt better and could control my flight a little better and a noticeable drop in spin, found I was over spinning the amt's especially into the wind just ballooning like you mentioned. Can't wait to see next video, keep up the quality guys.

    This was a very informative video. I was surprised that the DG was the highest spinner. I play S300’s and spin the crud out of them. I assumed I needed an X100, when the issue could just be the shaft profile. The info about shaft weight and golf swings was a lightbulb moment, too. I always liked the feel of heavy shafts, and I certainly hit them better. Now I know why.

    Awesome vid. Looking forward to the 105-110 gram range shaft comparison.
    I was custom fitted last spring at the pga superstore for Mizuno JPX 900 Forged irons with Nippon Modus3 Tour 105 Stiff flex. Swing speed on the test 6 iron averaged 84 mph. You made a comment on one of your previous vids that your 6 iron to driver swing speed difference should be about 20 mph, which is spot on, my driver swing speed is about 104 mph.
    The Nippon shaft is awesome, love the light weight, feel and the flight I get with these.

    Great video! I play X100s, and have definitely seen the high spin numbers. I had assumed that this is solely due to an excessively steep angle of attack (something I'm working to improve), but now I see that the shaft is playing a part in the higher spin as well. I had tried Project X before, but it felt a bit dead. Will have to test Nippon Modus shafts to see how they feel, and to compare numbers.

    I have been a DG S300 for so long mostly out of habit and familiarity. I have gotten on with them pretty decently over the years. I have just recently expanded my horizons in trying out different shafts and this video has definitely help give me a better understanding as the Modus 120S is one that has peaked my interest and I am giving them a try in the Z765s. I am also looking forward to a KBS shaft video as I have the KBS tours in my current set and I’m not too keen on them, but the C-Taper is one that peaks my interest. So it will be great to see some numbers on the KBS shaft range and hear your feedback and details about the respective shaft profiles.

    I recently watched one of your videos where you changed the head weight, grip weight using the same weight shaft to see what happened. Swing weight went up and down, but the swing SPEED remained pretty much the same. What I would love to see would be for you to do a test using different weight shafts in the same driver head and see what you get for swing speed from say 50 to 75 grams shafts. Most all OEM's say a lighter shaft will get you more distance from a faster swing speed. My testing has NOT shown that to be true, but I'd like to see you do a good test using your high dollar tools to measure swing speed, ball speed and distance at the shaft weight goes up and down. Would you please do this type of test and post the video? Thank you for another great video.

    Having tried the S300 (Mizuno MP-32), the Modus 120X and the PX 6.5 (Rbladez Tour), I have to say Modus are the lightest, most stable of the 3 for me, good height but not too high, spin is around 1,000RPM per club so I am delighted with them. The S300 was a bit too whippy (115 driver SS). The PX has a solid feel but I can't feel the head at the top of the swing the same way I do with the Modus. The S300 was the worst for me, but having tried the X100 during a fitting I have to say I didn't like it at all. Felt sturdy.
    Quality content as always. You might want to talk about difference between getting wedge dedicated shafts (and talk about why they have 5-10 grams difference with the iron set) or use the iron set shafts on the wedges too.

      Modus 130 produces more launch and spin (generally) than the 120. It is on the higher end in terms of weight (129g in X, 124g in stiff). So someone looking for a stable shaft but a bit more height to their ball flight would likely benefit from the 130.

    What about the KBS Shafts like the C-Taper and C-Taper Lite? Also, Stepped vs non stepped, does that stuff make big differences?

    I've hit all of these and even though numbers are similar, the Nippon's feel so good. Very smooth with great dispersion. Was never a fan of PX or DG.

    Hey guys. Would you consider bringing in someone with say a 5 handicap and showing why they fit a certain profile. Then bring a 15 handicapper in and doing the same to show why certain shafts fit different styles?

    Ian- I think it would be greatly beneficial to your followers if you presented attack angle and resultant path changes between the shafts. Looking at just the big 3: spin, launch and carry can be misleading in producing results that don’t always translate to the course. Great vids and info. Hope to see you soon! Tyler

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      True we didn't talk enough the about the swing data in this one. Attack angle was about 4-5º down and path about 3-4º from the inside, it stayed really consistent with all the shafts. We might see swing dynamics change more when testing more drastically different shafts i.e. someone playing a regular flex that actually needs an X, fast transition player using too soft a profile, etc.

    Ian, Matt, thanks again for another great video. You guys are the best! I see a lot on the TPT shaft. What do you think about it?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      TPT shafts are very, very good. You'll see them in a couple of our fitting videos. I don't think we've heard anything but great feedback from testers and it's producing great results in customer fittings.

    I just got fitted to a set of Callaway Mavrik standard irons with Nippon Modus 120 stiff, +1/2" over. I returned the clubs after a short time because I didn't like the strong loft, large offset and felt they were slightly too short. Got refit to Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal but fitter changed shaft to DG105 R300 and +1" over. How could the DG105 R300 be the replacement for the Nippon Modus 120's??? Scratching my head. Would love to hear your take on this. You guys are awesome!

    I have been watching your channel and learning a lot. I wish I could have come to you to get my new clubs fitted. My wife surprised me with a complete bag fitting and when I received my clubs all of the taylormade irons came with no markings on the shafts, I was fitted for Dynamic Gold 105 stiff shafts and have no idea what I got. The golf shop told me not to worry, the shafts ordered are the ones I received. Should I worry, does Dynamic Gold send out shafts unmarked? Wish I could have headed to Canada to see you guys. Thanks from your neighbor from Minnesota.

      Would be pretty strange for them to tell you they're DG105 stiff if they aren't. Did they explain why there were no labels?

    • @kristiabbott7325
      @kristiabbott7325 6 лет назад

      they did not, just said not to worry, that what I ordered are the shafts installed. Thank you so much for your response, I really enjoy your videos.

    In addition to swing speed, Nippon literature says the weight of the shaft should match the weight of the golfer, heavier guys use heavier shafts and vice versa.

    Great vids. Very sorry I didn't come about these soon...very detailed and informative. One question. Of course hitting them is the best way to approach this, but all else equal, for players with quicker transitions, have you found that accuracy benefits most from butt stiff, tip stiff or stiff in the middle iron shafts?

    Another great video guys. I play PX 5.5's in Mizuno MP 60's. Definitely going to changes irons this year and thinking about MP18 SC, is the PX 5.5 still a good choice ?

      Simon Hobbs Hi Simon, I’m a big fan of the PX 5.5. At 115g it really is a comfortable weight for a lot of golfers!!

      That's good to hear, any thoughts on suitable replacement for MP60's, happy to consider something with more help particularly in the longer irons.

  • @mangoman2148

    When you guys fit shafts, how similar are woods to irons? If X100 perfectly fits the player, is it certain they should also be using a heavy 75-80g X-Flex driver shaft? Or do you have fits where the player ends up with, say, X100 shafts but also a S-Flex, not-too-heavy driver shaft?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад +1

      If there's variance between the way they swing the driver vs. the irons, then absolutely possible. They may also have a different shot pattern with the driver that benefits from a different type of shaft than is working in the irons.

    Wouldn't you agree that how OEM what a particular flight with their clubs is why they decide to put certain shafts in their builds?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад +1

      There would be an aspect of that for sure, but that wouldn't necessarily give the best fit for every golfer.

    Guys - another great and informative video indeed! Question- I have 7 iron swing speed at 80-82mph and total of 150-155m. My current shafts are Project X95 regular and spin is around 5000rpm. I feel that this is low? I have tested the KBS shafts taper 105g and they felt awesome. How do they compare with my shafts in general, thank you

    Love the video and your other videos. EXCELLENT WORK! So if I hear you correctly, I tend to divert away from plane and come over the top occasionally and I am currently fitted for a project X6.0 so are you saying perhaps I would benefit from an S 300 DG shaft due to it being a heavier shaft from the project x?

    I bought a mixed set of Mizuno MP 20s (MB, MMC, HMB) with Modus 120. I didn't like the HMBs so sold them and bought 4,5,6 second hand MMCs with project x 6.0. This feels ok so I guess it is? Aren't the Modus 120s more similar to the Project X 6.0? Perhaps not from the above? I had 6.5s in my previous set and thought they were perhaps too stiff. Apologies fo the long story!
