Japanese car companies have been trying to put out kei cars for a long time in the states… or at least models inspired by them. The closest we ever got was the Suzuki x90, Honda Fit, Nissan Cube, and the Toyota Yaris maybe? Those are still big by Kei standards. The original MR2 was allllmost Kei sized. I wish that Americans would like them but let’s face it, with Americans average commute it’s just not going to work for enough people. I still wish we could import them though ( and have LHD ) . Thing is there’s a bit of a catch-22 with them because if any of them get hit by an a large SUV or truck, it’s basically a death trap.

Rich, the more I watch the channel the more I get the idea for you to start your own automobile company! We, the citizens of this country are broke, and need a reliable car for $10k to $15K. I think it's possible to make a no thrills, no frills economy car for that amount. No cruise, no safety crap, no lane change assist, no air, no power windows, nothing extra just an A to B transportation car. The reason US auto-company lobbyists push so hard for strict regulations and import tariffs, is to keep competition out. Japanese, then Korean and now Chinese car companies have always had to jump through hoops to enter the US car market. American ego and arrogance has always ridiculed imports, until customers realise they are better, cheaper and more efficient. Remember how the VW Beetle was mocked...and then went on to sell millions, and is still a beloved icon.
