For anyone looking at the KBS $ taper and plays longer shaft and/or bigger grips. There is a $ Taper “ht” (heavy tip) that’s great for balancing swing weight for added weight in the grip end.
This video is, for me, your Top Video for as long as I have followed you. Why, it was all about YOU and not other golfers fitting. Moreover, you ask and got your answers. Well done mate. These videos are my favorite, probably more tech than I need not in tournament play, but made me a hell of a fitter when I worked in golf for a few years. I’ve always had great success for myself with KBS over DG and PX product, still trying to find a comparable shaft to the KBS TOUR V X stiff
Amazing....simply amazing...best fitting video ive ever seen and ive seen 100's ...notice one very i portant thing....Trottie comes across a little demanding and upfrontish...but he's really not...why??? cos he always asks the right question players should ask and are too afraid to... listen to him ask is detail about the swingweight before he hits a shot...etc etc etc...also notice he is not afriad to ask about feel....a shaft has to have the right swingweight and must feel right for the golfer...KBS is very big on those two points when trying to fit the right golf shaft for any player wether it be a tour pro or an average club golfer
Met you at the golf galaxy product expo earlier this year, always able to learn something from your content. Love the passion and in depth thought process you posses!
Great vid with loads of interesting thoughts. Particularly around David talking swing speed being the first indicator despite the level of golf you play. I have just come off a fitting that I wasn't that happy with. As soon as i said i was a relative newcomer and hit a few bad shots they wanted to put me in a Tour Lite regular despite swinging at 80-85. I noticed i was fighting an overdraw/hook. Even the KBS shaft picker had me in a stiff when i looked it up online Tour R+, Tour Lite XS, S-Taper Lite S. Glad I did not order. I will go back and ask to try based on swing speed.
I currently use stock Callaway Mavrik irons from a few years ago and am looking to possibly do a full iron fitting this year for something new, I had no idea how much went into a proper fitting. Something I never considered as a slicer is the possibility that a few degree adjustment might fix the issue as I currently have to overcompensate my follow through which now causes more hooks and pulls.
5:49 -> I should have had this Informationen earlier. After one year playing golf with rifle 5.5 shafts I fought the slice. Shortly I find out my swingspeed is 95, now with the projekt x 7.0 I fight the hook.
Excellent iron shaft fitting, I am slightly surprised that he never got you to hit the Tour V 120 X, yes it is an X flex shaft but when I tested all these KBS shafts it felt softer than all the other KBS X flex shafts because it is 120 grams instead of 130 grams.
sick fitting Trottie, you made the right choice based on data but the Tour V was right there too. So cool to hear to fitting pros talking high level shop talk and just a wee bit of banter at times. Brilliant content. Cheers from Canada
just put the $Taper Lite 105 in the 4i to match up the $Taper 130 in the rest of the irons to get a little more ball speed, height and launch in the long irons. TBH i like it so much i’m considering going with it in the 5i too. really cool way to progressively weight within the KBS range.
Great video Trottie… I did get the sense that you were maybe wanting to hit a lighter ctaper. Why not try the ctaper lite s 110 or x 115 as you seemed to like that feel?
In this vid 120$ which i think is around 6.5 CPM. KBS do things off weight and frequency. Since this vid I moved to Tour V 110 but we've been talking a lot recently and I might pivot again into 115's for 2025. Not sure yet but on good days the 110's are good and on off days they can be a little off. I think S flex though is the answer but it's mainly judged on the frequency

So in summary no I’m gonna stick with the same iron as the set…. BUT …. I do make a couple of changes albeit you’ll have to wait for the follow up vids to see that. 👊🏻
As a general rule I always like heavier but if you’re in anything 120g then you don’t need to go heavier. I would say that I’m in the camp of D4 being as light as you go for wedge swing weights & I don’t hate heavier in your most lofted wedge. Shorter shaft, you gotta be able to feel that head weight on the touch shots. I can confirm I will be doing a follow up to this video about wedge shafts, I think there’s more for us to reveal in that process too. 🧅🧅🧅🧅
@@trottiegolf playing Dg 105 s300 in irons just swapped from kbs $ taper 120. Was thinking of going Dg 120 in wedges. High ball hitter I want to keep the ball high and land soft Average 86-87 mph 7 iron.
Length could be one thing but also how steep you might be into the ball. Generally steep players have to back up or what’s called “early extend” also known as “goat hump” (thrust pelvis forward to help shallow club) . Bottom line, it’s almost impossible for me to diagnose over a text reply but I’d look at swing path first if it’s consistently in the toe
check early release, flipping at the ball at the bottom. Just try to hold off a little at the bottom. But could be early extension, hence why you flip at it...Just my opinion. I do the same thing and I work on extension and flipping...
Good to see you’re enjoying the ProSendr mate, after time using it do you feel it is a worthwhile investment for a mid HCP, I tend to put more time into practice, on and off course but prepared to practice and have regular lessons.
Great video Trottie! Do you play standard length? I’m 5’6 and I’ve been recommended that I got 1/2 short, but I realize that most club builders don’t realize it affects the swing weight which puts me at around C7/8. Thoughts on how to address this vs choking down?
I do not play shorter. I used to go 1/4" short but over time I've got back to STD. When I did play shorter I kept a D3 SW & I'm still on D3 now. I know from tour nobody goes shorter with irons, at least not from memory / experience. Early on in my career I spent some time with Woosie & even he didn't play shorter, only flatter. Tough to ignore a proper old skool flusher like him.
Trottie, why not dynamic gold Tour Issue x100? Seems like majority of tour pros like that shaft regardless if they are the fastest or slowest on tour. I'm trying to decide between a KBS and Gold Tour Issue rn and am curious.
The reason so many use x100 is because it’s what they’ve used since they were kids before all these other options were available and now they’re just used to how it feels and performs
Great video. I always notice you talk lie angles a lot in fittings. I’m considering getting new irons (I have 12 year old blades). I’m 6’4” but I’m long armed and swing most comfortable with standard length clubs. Dynamically I do squat a bit before impact, short as always worked better. But should I look at getting 1* uprt?
@@boxerboy860 but I don’t understand why they go MORE upright as they lengthen them? The club is already going to play more upright when you add length?
I think this video highlights that club head is way more important than golf shaft. Trottie just hit a bunch of different shafts and the height and spin were pretty spot on. It’s about feel, not performance. If you need higher or lower spin, you need to change club head first. Example, a P790 with a project x io or KBS Tour Lite (higher launch/spin shafts) will never launch higher than a P770 with a KBS Tour or DG X100 (low launch/spin shafts) because there’s a 2.5° difference in loft that can’t be overcome by shaft
Trotts, no Top Hat, Cane, or Carnival attire here eh? Fleetwood not returned them yet?😉 Some surprisingly good info here. What's your honest thoughts on the fitting style hosels?! My Experience below: Yes, the club comes out to the same overall swingweight, but good grief! They've moved damn near 4+ swing weights, hollowed out of the p7mc head and moved considerable weight several inches to the hosel right? How is that weight displacement not going to change the feel of the head for some? For example I do prefer more weight towards the heel of my irons- I can do this several different ways and with my choice of clubhead. (P770) Before I knew I much preferred extra weight towards the heel/hosel, I was fit with the heavier fitting style hosel & hit the ball much better than normal- the weight & location felt perfect..compression was easier.. the head felt slightly heavier in a good way, with the displaced weight in a spot where I preferred it more (towards the hosel). My irons arrived fitted to the *same exact specs* I tested. but they did not feel quite the same as testing day weeks prior... most importantly like some weight had been shifted. *I'm certain* this had to do with the extra displaced weight in the fitting hosel no longer there... do you agree that could be the case and how would you replicate that with my gamers? Ask any old half- arse Fitter and they'll tell you no, no.. but I'm just not buying that displacing 8-10g weight won't affect feel for some people when I experienced it personally.. I tend to strike my balls a little bit to the heelside & even at a 7.81 hdcp, occasionally will catch shanks in between flushes more often than average w/ same or higher hdcp index...Never toe-miss irons
thought that myself its not ideal having a 8 g weight in the hozel .Why wouldn't a big operation have different heads with each shaft ?maybe too many heads 50 ish? Also no sign of any 90 or 100g graphite TGIs ?
I have been fitted for my new irons a month ago… the shaft model was back ordered with no date of availability (what I had been said)… they suggested me another brand model, and they told me that no body can make a difference between these 2 given models… I an waiting my club to see… but it makes me…. 😒🙄😏🤨🤨
Nah, I compress it quite well. I like a fade over a draw so that'll bump it, plus albeit you think it's normal I am on the steeper side as a result of being quite narrow in the downswing. I know my faults but defo a high spin guy

Trottie do you recommend going same shafts in wedges as you have in irons? Or heavier in wedge shafts?
As a general rule I always like heavier but if you’re in anything 120g then you don’t need to go heavier. I would say that I’m in the camp of D4 being as light as you go for wedge swing weights & I don’t hate heavier in your most lofted wedge. Shorter shaft, you gotta be able to feel that head weight on the touch shots.
I can confirm I will be doing a follow up to this video about wedge shafts, I think there’s more for us to reveal in that process too.

@@trottiegolf playing Dg 105 s300 in irons just swapped from kbs $ taper 120. Was thinking of going Dg 120 in wedges. High ball hitter I want to keep the ball high and land soft
Average 86-87 mph 7 iron.
@@chaddecker8726 yes stay heavy in those wedges .....
I want the kbs driver shaft but it is so expensive
Just curious Trottie don’t they make a tour v 120 also y not try that one
Best yet trottie. Exactly how it should go. Dare I say, it was "MONEY"! Put the PX in the bin
Think Im gonna have to go to KBS
trottie i have the p7mcs and i have toe strikes almost every time , what would generally be a fix for that ? bend it more flat or upright ? thanks
Maybe club is not long enough and check out mobile golf club on RUclips he has a video explains how you can see what your lie is
Length could be one thing but also how steep you might be into the ball.
Will you change your wedge shafts to a KBS shaft to match the rest of the irons?
I plan to go back for a wedge fitting.... More to come
I don’t think the guy ever finished a sentence… Trottie was a lot of personality for his passive approach.
Too excited & wanted to keep the 🧅's flowing 🤣😂
@trottie why are you in a 6.5 hitting a 7 iron 165? You dont have enough speed to hit 6.5 i would think. 6.5 guy should be 175-190
You can't do the flex just on numbers but I did also come down in listed flex in this vid but up in frequency I believe
Probably need 1/2” 3 up or something Im 6’0. 1/4” 2 up
@@boxerboy860 but I don’t understand why they go MORE upright as they lengthen them?
Fleetwood not returned them yet?😉
Some surprisingly good info here.
What's your honest thoughts on the fitting style hosels?!
My Experience below:
Yes, the club comes out to the same overall swingweight, but good grief!
Before I knew I much preferred extra weight towards the heel/hosel, I was fit with the heavier fitting style hosel & hit the ball much better than normal- the weight & location felt perfect..compression was easier.. the head felt slightly heavier in a good way, with the displaced weight in a spot where I preferred it more (towards the hosel).
3:39 pause 🫢🤣
Rose changed to Project X 6.5, little softer than C-Taper.
I have been fitted for my new irons a month ago… the shaft model was back ordered with no date of availability (what I had been said)… they suggested me another brand model, and they told me that no body can make a difference between these 2 given models… I an waiting my club to see… but it makes me…. 😒🙄😏🤨🤨
Trottie, do u deliver ALOT of dynamic loft. You are relatively high spin in my opinion. Aoa seems normal
Nah, I compress it quite well. I like a fade over a draw so that'll bump it, plus albeit you think it's normal I am on the steeper side as a result of being quite narrow in the downswing.
I know my faults but defo a high spin guy
Not that high spin is a fault btw.... just something to be aware of
where can I get that jacket???
@trottiegolf
It’s Nike I believe , try the website I’d say
Trottie I think you are hitting so many with a pull beacause you are moving( Opening up) your left foot just before you start the swing.
My man's face to path was 0, his move is beyond solid. He worked out the pull due to timing once he was fully warm.
I can’t believe I didn’t get this job.
Let's go!
😂 my word
let the people you work with talk! my god
I hear ya. Just wanted to keep the show moving, this is as close as I get to an indoor fitting but crucial I keep the viewer in mind. Maybe on this occasion I should have been more chill, I hear ya & thx for feedback. What can I say.... I love it 🤣
@@trottiegolf i love the enthusiasm man, i do! I love the videos too, cheers!
Jones Bag ….. Cool.
Bloody Arragant..!!!
Really why? ..... sorry you took that from the vid
You come across so condescending.. Talking over the guy, speaking for him and simply answering your own questions..! Didn't learn anything, only what Not to do..!! Sorry..
@@MrStuart10001 I was defo too enthusiastic here, obv tough as my profession, so maybe need to let go a little if I find myself doing content like this in the future. Appreciate the feedback and if you watch the follow up vid on the wedges I think you'll notice a difference.
Glad someone said this. Not bashing on him but DAMN is he coming across as an arrogant know it all! Hitting shots while he's speaking, being super cocky about his 0.0 face to path metric, talking over him...etc. Complete lack of basic social skills, it's like a home schooled kid. I mean if he's that confident about his knowledge then he should just have done his own fitting!
@@rowengb only call out folks & as I've recognized I appreciate the feedback but this is a RUclips vid & you do need to keep things moving.
Dave Anderson is a friend and one of the best FITRS you could visit but making a vid v's having a fitting are two different things.
Apologies this upload wasn't your jam, perhaps stick to solo ones in the future.
Thx
Well if there was a script… Trottie went off into lala land and did some add libbing and a wee bit of improv
Isn't that every vid? I don't run scrips mate
I always enjoy a good Trottie fitting video but I struggled watching this one. The dude said "let's hit 4 shots" but started yakking after the first half swing. It seemed like a lot of talking and justifying how he would fit instead of just watching and fitting.. just my take.. this didn't seem to flow very well...I would like to try KBS sometime as a long time Project X guy..
A step backwards in knowledge; no pun intended.
My guy looks like Jason Dufner's older brother
yep interrupts a lot very cool info but let the guy fit
Can a human being be any more arrogant? Sure you’re a fitter but you’re in his house, show the man some respect, let him do his work and let him do the talking please. The number of times you interrupted him mid speech is just plain rude.
Sorry you see it that way. David is really good. What I will say is that we’re trying to educate here on the fitting process opposed to go through an actual fitting. I think if you view the content from that angle you’ll have a different opinion. 👍🏻

Ok I’m in. How much is this guy? Baseball player that doesn’t not release the club head. Check is already written…..
This is why fitting with JUST a 7 iron is problematic. 4 iron and PW may be much better with a different shaft. Its not linear!
Flat biller...
