Try ctrl alt del windows 7 or windows 8, if task manager shows up on ctrl alt del then go to file-run- type explorer.exe and hit enter.

On the blank black windows 7 and windows 8 screen again try pressing shift 5 times. Here is a link to a video that does something similar to the sticky key hack.

--Safe Mode 01:35
Press f8 before windows boots to get to a menu. on this menu windows 7 or windows 8 go to safe mode and press enter. If safe mode loads then you can use windows to scan the system and fix it from inside windows.
--Last Known Good Configuration 02:45
Press f8 before windows boots to get to a menu. Use 'Last Known Good Configuration' if this boots into windows 7 or windows 8 then you probably didn't have much of a problem and you should be good to go.
--Startup Repair 03:12
Press f8 before windows 7 or windows 8 boots to get to a menu. Go to repair computer and boot into repair client. Click startup repair and the client will scan and automatically repair the startup sequence of windows 7. if the scan says it fixed something then try booting normally
--System Restore 03:45
Press f8 before windows 7 or windows 8 boots to get to a menu. Go to repair computer and boot into repair client. Click system restore. Find a restore point as before the date of the issue and do a restore. if the system does not error the windows 7 or windows 8 system may be fixed.
--System Image Recovery 05:04
Press f8 before windows 7 or windows 8 boots to get to a menu. Go to repair computer and boot into repair client. Click on system image recovery. This will reload an image of the system from an earlier date. this image will have had to be setup before the issue began. if this system image recovery does not work then you probably have a hardware issue.
--Memory Diagnostic 05:22
Press f8 before windows 7 or windows 8 boots to get to a menu. Go to repair computer and boot into repair client. Click on windows memory diagnostic. This will scan the ram in the system and will display if the system has faulty ram. if you have bad ram remove all ram sticks and scan the ram one stick at a time. After scanning all ram throw out all bad ram. Then boot windows normally.

Press f8 before windows 7 or windows 8 boots to get to a menu. Go to repair computer and boot into repair client. Click on command prompt. First you have to find the partition you want to scan. When booting in the repair client it slaves your current drives therefore the c:\ drive will be labeled with another letter. To find the partition type dir and then any letter. You are looking for folders called: Program files, Windows, Users, etc. if you see those folders then you know you have the right partition. Type the letter of the partition then a colon, ex. e: hit enter. if the partition letter is showing up at the beginning of the prompt line then next type chkdsk /f/r and hit enter. Let the system scan. if the scan is completed with errors then get some imaging software and try to image your drive to different drive. if you cannot get the software to image then you will have to slave the drive and backup your data on a separate system and reinstall windows o/s.
--Refresh Windows Install SFC /Scannow 09:15

December 2017 here! Chkdsk works for me. It says something about “windows replaced bad cluster” and this method takes about 30-40 mins for me. and I sincerely thank you uploader. U save my night. You’re a lifesaver. THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊

thanks alot the command prompt option worked for me after weeks of black screen with cursor
Guys who had getting this problem just do the following step
1). Press ctrl alt del at the same time.
2).at the right bottom there is power option while pressing or holding shift key then restart.
3). Then advanced repair tool will open.
4). Go to troubleshoot; advanced; startup; and then boot from safe mode
5). After it will start your computer on safe mode and then you can just restart your pc.
This one's work for me but i dunno if will work good all users or not i had tested this on Windows 10

I guess he used another computer and one of those external drive enclosures where you insert your damaged hdd then connect it over usb to the second computer and you see it as an external drive

Apparently this is hard drive bad sector issue (for me at least). I'm using windows 8.1
Type chkdsk -f -r -x in command prompt and wait for the process to complete. This method works for me and you dont need to worry about losing any files :)

Just a small tip that made me feel like an idiot after I found out. If you have 2 monitors plugged in (I had my monitor and my TV, which was off) check to make sure that the one that is off isn't set as the primary monitor. I was fiddling around for hours trying to figure out what the problem was until I started pulling cables out of my vid card and remembered that I had 2 monitors plugged in.. And then I figured that my tv was set as the primary monitor... And I was having the black screen with the mouse problem.. Lol. Derp. Hope this helps someone :D

You've to use the detailed command:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=e:\ /offwindir=e:\windows
As your comment was year ago, you must've already either fixed it or reinstalled. I had the same thing, but I managed to get over it. First I wrote ''ICACLS e:\windows\winsxs'' and then repeated the ''sfc /scannow /offbootdir=e:\ /offwindir=e:\windows''. No more protection blah blahh.

Reinstall Windows. Get someones laptop or pc, get an 8gb or 16gb flash drive, and download Windows ten on it. Look up a tutorial on how to install Windows 10 on RUclips and then follow that. They will also show you were go get it

Hi thanks for getting trough every step here. I also would like to suggest to try and use HDD Regenerator tool. Maybe from Hiren's boot cd or other place, from pendrive or CD. Maybe check it externally. It should help and of course if it has problems You should transfer all your data to a new disk. Thx.

Just get CD for Window System 8/9/10 whichever you like and install it ( sucks part you have to delete everything you had on pc . But at least it will work again)

I know I'm late, but for anyone who looks up this in the future:
Basically what he said in the last part was that the hard drive he had on his hand was the one that he was trying to fix throughout the video, the one he was showing us which wasn't working. So, he got a new hard drive which he bought and copied everything into the new one by imaging it after pressing F8 at startup and choosing the Repair option and the the Image Recory option after that (all of this in the new hard drive, not the broken one), but since the hard drive was corrupted he might have lost some of his files.
TL;DR: if everything else failed, you either want to reinstall Windows or get a new hard drive and do an Image Recory there from your old hard drive.
