    Don't feel bad, I've worked in KC my entire life, and I've never heard of it, either (Beverly Estates)., Hallbrook is awful. New money, snobby people, horrible soil and rock in which your entire landscaping and lawn struggle. EVERY street is lined with Rosehill Ash, and because of the emerald ash borer, all the street trees in Hallbrook are dying. Most of the costruction happened in the 90's, and it's not good quality. I've worked at several homes that had large sections of stucco just crack and fall right off the house. Best place in Kansas City? If you can afford it, Sunset Hills.

    I actually think KC has a pretty good size Asian community and is continuously growing. Of course it's not as big as other major US cities, but I wouldn't consider it small. KC is not a small po-dunk town by any means. My best friend of 17 yrs is Hmong. And KC is known to be divided a bit into different Asian districts. There is a decent sized Korean and Chinese community with pretty great (more authentic restaurants) around the Overland Park area, Vietnamese & Thai community in downtown westbottoms area, & etc. You just have to know where to go and broaden your friend circle. And if you're new, use Yelp! It never lets me down

    I was born in metro KC and grew up in Johnson County (now on the west coast). The weather is harsh and extreme, and that contributes to the reasons people don't get outside so much. The nature of the place is it's spread out, so there's no easy getting from one part of town to another except in a car. There are genuinely decent people there - glad you liked the parks, etc. Then there are the Chiefs!

    You forgot the number one reason LA and KC are different. Earthquakes. No Northridge quakes in Kansas City. And as for snow, my first February in SoCal I was in Santa Monica, eastbound on Santa Monica Blvd with the air on and the palm fronds waving in the breeze and looked up to see the snow cap on Mount Wilson. In LA you can visit the snow if you like. I Live in Naples, FL now but all in all, I consider KC my favorite hometown.

    False description of the video content sir. Smithville is most decidedly not Kansas City. Do you want to know why living in Smithville seems like living in a small town? It's because when you live in Smithville you are in fact living in a small town, separated from the big city problems. It literally is exactly like living in a small town, because it is a small town. Kearney is like 40 miles ourside the nearest KCMO city limit. So is Leavenworth KS, at least an hour drive from Kansas City Neither is Liberty in Kansas City Neither is Independence. Neither is Lone Jack. Neither is Leawood or Mission Kansas in Kansas City but they are pretty nice too. Those are nice places but neither are where you say they are. In fact other than Kansas City KS , none of these places are Kansas City. Yet when you posted a video of the worst 10 places to live in Kansas City all are located in Kansas City mo itself. It is dishonest bordering on unethical for a real estate professional to leave out the word "metropolitan" or the word "area". No worries, enough down votes and these will clear out of my feed. Good luck!

    Very interesting and informative. I live in Lee's Summit and have for the past 60 years. Honestly for the past 40 years I won't go into the city. I love the Kansas City library system and a lot of the parks. I love the Waldo area too but again as I have aged the traffic and crime has turned me off. It is a dirty shame because there are terrific things about KC. There has been a ton of crime that has migrated out to Lee's Summit from Kansas City, not to mention all the homeless people that now are here. Being honest the public schools are awful in the city and the bickering and politics being played by the KC Board of Education is downright sad. I take issue with the liberal KCMO democratic government and the mayor of KC was an embarrassment throughout the Superbowl parade shooting. I suppose all big cities have issues these days and play the race card like they breathe. I pray someday we can move beyond race and fix the real reasons for the problems our societies face. Good luck in your business and your family is darling.

    The best way to describe Kansas City is "split personality." First you have the Kansas-Missouri split. This is odd for the fact that 2 areas so close together have such different vibes. For me this split boils down to this: The Kansas side has a more western vibe as in rodeos, cowboy boots, and agricultural wide open spaces - the Missouri side is both ozark hillbilly and urban at the same time. And yes, this in itself is a split and a very odd one at that. The other split is literally day and night. In the 40 some years I have lived here I have never felt unsafe during the daytime. But at night it's a completely different story. Lots and lots of gun crime especially on the Missouri side. Most people, even people that have lived here all their lives don't know it, but Kansas City has historically had a high crime rate. As far as I have been able to research the high crime rate goes back to the very begining. As to why, it seems no one knows, there's only speculation. KC also has a long and storied history of police corruption which is why the state controls the KCPD, not the locals. It was especially bad during the prohibition-organized crime days. Which brings us to my last observation. There is a lot of corruption in city government on the Missouri side. A LOT. From the school board to the water department and everything in between. It has been this way the entire 40 some years I have lived here.

    • @LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong
      @LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong 20 дней назад

      I think those are all interesting observations! How did you find out about the corruption? Do you have any avenues of research I should look into?

I liked the video but you were in Independence and ended up in Lees Summit from Kansas which was kind of funny to me as you added a whole lot of unnecessary miles. Here is an idea you were in Parkville and did not show the beautiful homes on the lake there, make a video of all the places you can live on the lake in the KC metro. I commented on one of your other videos that I think Smithville is one of the uglier lakes in the area and Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake are much nicer. I learned of a couple of places that I did not know existed in this video. It was a good video but I think could have made a more linear approach to the places you went and knocked off lots of miles.

      Thanks! I realize I missed a lot of things, so appreciate your input. I think I will do this next year and plan it much better. I think that even going from WWI museum to airport was a dumb move. Realized it too late, and I may do this over two days next year. Thanks again! 👍🏽

    Congratulations on your new baby! I used to live in the area between the Plaza and Westport about 25 years ago and that area always seemed pretty safe. Prior to that we lived in NE Kansas City and that was *not* really safe. Now I live in Roeland Park, which is probably the safest place I have ever lived. I even feel safer on the streets of Roeland Park than I do in my home country, England. Yet only a few miles north is Kansas City, Kansas, with an astronomical crime rate. The area in NE Johnson County (Roeland Park, Mission, etc.) is as safe as you will find anywhere, has excellent schools, and, unlike the rest of Johnson County, is still affordable. I recommend NE Johnson County for anyone of moderate means who is planning to move to the Kansas City area, especially if they have school-aged children. For people who don't have to worry about schools then there are still good places south of the river on the Missouri side and it's one of the few places in the western world where you still might find a bargain property.

      Thank you! I find that Roeland Park is a hidden gem that people don't really talk about. What differences do you find between Missouri and Kansas? Any preference?

      @@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong As a history nerd and a person who grew up in a big city, I think that there are a lot of positive things about KCMO as a place to live for a single person. If you have children, I think it's still fine but only if you can find a safe area with a good school. Maybe the Brookside or Waldo area would be doable. If you have kids then I think you should avoid any place where you feel the need to be armed. The greatest danger is not crime or accidents: two thirds of US gun deaths are suicides. You can never know when a family member might develop a serious mental illness and I think that guns are a ticking time bomb in that respect. You might get hit by a stray gangster bullet if you are very unlucky but the bullets that we fire ourselves are the ones that take the heaviest toll. Also, there is an additional daily stress of living in a high-crime area. In 1993, we lived in NE Kansas City for just over a year and we got raided by a SWAT team in the middle of the night once. They had the wrong address. You don't really need those kinds of worries in your life if you can avoid them. So, for anyone with kids, I would definitely recommend Johnson County over KCMO. But that's just a general rule. We would probably have stayed in KCMO but for our youngest son being disabled and needing additional help that the KCMO school district didn't seem to be ready to provide. But that was 25 years ago. . .

    How about covering downtown communities. I have a house that's been for sale since last September. A wonderful area, Beacon Hill.

    Born & raised in KCMO, moved to San Diego in '92, moved back to KC when pregnant in '07, could not wait to get back to CA in '12-LA this time-and I couldn't be more relieved and happy. I love KC but I will NEVER live there again. I appreciate your observations about the diversity of KC because it offsets the insanity of the far right politics that overtook the state after I left in '92.
