Also, major beginner tip, I-435 is a big circle that goes around the city, so it's north, south, east, and west. It might get confusing to go south for west, etc...

So we don't use "the" like CA in our highway references. 😉 As for speed, they've been cracking down on 435. Also watch out on 10. People tend to lose their minds when the number changes. So many accidents in winter.

@@bradharrah3339 Yes, this is true! Unfortunately, I don't notice it enough during day-to-day speech to correct it. Other examples of how my speech differs is "pop" vs. "soda" vs. "coke." I say "soda," but have heard a lot more people here say "pop" or "coke."

71 is a free for all but also tend to be speed traps. So many last minute exits. Would also say that Joe's I think has improved on their customer service a lot which is part of the reason why it's my favorite overall place. But for places like Gates, Arthur Bryant's, LC's you definitely don't want to take your time ordering.

Yeah, I actually did call into Joe’s after I made this video and the person was very pleasant! Much different than my prior experiences!

Joe's isn't known to be rude. Gates is the one notorious for that, yelling when you enter the door. Also, despite being a BBQ mecca, KC has an impressive amount of foodie options, including Vegetarian...as long as you stay in the Metro.

@@bradharrah3339 Thanks! I know that Gates has had that rep. Until recently there was a rude person taking the orders at Joe's on 47th. I don't think they work there anymore.

Jaylenn, love your content. As a KC native I really like hearing the perspective of someone who has relocated here. A couple quick points for you... As others have stated, using "the" before the freeway is a west coast thing. Here, if it's a two digit road we refer to it as I-, such as I-35, I-29, etc. If it's 3 digits we tend to just refer to it by the number, "435", "169", etc. And here's a weird one, the west side of the state tends to refer to highways by the number first, where the east side (i.e. St. Louis) refers to the word Highway first. So here it's 50 Highway, 40 Highway, 69 Highway, instead of Highway 69, etc.

Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to comment on my videos! I'm sure that over time I will break the habit of using "the" before a freeway! When I don't think about it, my 30+ years of living in CA still dictate how I talk! Where in KC do you live, and do you like it there?

@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I've lived all over the area. I grew up in Raytown, but in the early 2000's work took me to the Kansas side and I lived in Olathe in the Cedar Creek area for about 15 years. Also lived in Lenexa and Lee's Summit. For most of the past 5 years I've lived in Midtown, currently in a condo at Crown Center. I love the Midtown area if you can get past the perpetual road construction. It is neat to be able to go all the places you feature without having to take the car out of the parking space!

KCMO has the better numbering system (Kansas gets wonky). North/South is based on the river. East/West is based on Main St. Also, there is a State Line Rd. versus State Ave., which is totally different. Also, good luck at the Westport Rd/SW Trafficway/Belleview intersection. Oh, another beginner move, don't confuse Southwest Boulevard with Southwest Trafficway.

Midwesterners (like me) with volunteer too much and overexplain, compared to faster, larger cities. Oh, and the streets are traditionally better conditioned on the KS side. Take a drive down State Line Rd. Our extreme weather shifts (and salt treatment) are rough on the roads (and cars). Cold patching the holes is necessary because of weather, but it is temporary. but necessary.
