Welcome to my RUclips channel! Follow me as i explore amazing Cornwall (and beyond) onboard what ever sailboat i can get my hands on (currently a westerly fulmar 32). Most of my videos have sailing (in all conditions!), many have helpful overviews of some of the repairs and maintenance i do. I am based in Plymouth and Cornwall. If you enjoy them, please hit the like button, and subscribe if you want to be notified of new uploads (about every 2 weeks...mostly...). This channel is not monetized, I make these videos because when i was looking into buying my boat i couldn't find any videos of the boat i wanted (a Twister 28). I read every single comment on my videos.

How’s the new career and course going?
@@JR-fd8eq so far so amazing 👍👍 no career yet, but definitely heading that way 😁
@@SVRoquetta good luck. If you can keep the videos coming. Take care.
@JR-fd8eq thank you, I will, I'm just buried in exam prep. I will do a cooking vid soon and some maintenance 👍👍
yeah that poses a very good question even if on lowest setting and too warm with hatches closed because raining and very cold outside how to get rid of the excess heat?
I don't think I've experienced that too often. If it's raining it's normally warmer... But maybe the answer is a boom tent... Then the hatch could be a open a bit without leaking
Any excuse to break the diet, looked fab, just need the Sailing Brothers to watch this and up their game too.
You made some really interesting comments on your Paramedic Science degree. My Daughter has just qualified this year and can relate to the access course being challenging compared to the degree. The last year will go quick enough. Good luck on the rest of it.
I can't get the sound of fork being scraped on that cast iron out of my head! Pancakes and dropped scones next week? Good to see your busy at the cooker again. Sandy
@@sailingaphrodite4189 yeah I bought a wooden spatula today, and I'm on the lookout for a Flexi stainless turner 🤣
Yummy!! Thanks for the pineapple advice!
Nice video, as always
Best thing in cast iron skillet is what gets stuck on it and then scraped off for the sauce. Fingerlicking delicious.
Can we expect a bikini shod babe in the next one? 😂
Not french cuisine, but hearty and tasty. A good sailors dinner on a rainy evening. But if you want to open a bottle of white wine anyway, a bit of this wine would improve your gravy for sure. Kind regards from a Jester
@@helmrichharms2225 yes, thats what it needed for sure. Thanks 😁
looked lovley
Nice skillet.. Treat it well and you will have it for ever...
Hi! Does the inox skin fitting holds well along time? Is it an ebay one? Thanks much
@@joaodealmeidafarracho1701 can't remember where I got it, sorry. It's still going strong, yes 👍
Good call on cancelling that trip. I'm on the SW Irish coast and I've never seen a Summer where the weather has been so continuously unpredictable. Not only can you not trust it to be stable for as little as 24 hours, but the wind can vary from nothing to F7 AND box the compass over a few hours. You'd have taken a real kicking on that trip any time in the last few months and for the foreseeable. On Pollock, best I've heard is crush and layer on a packet of cheese and onion crisps and grill or bake.
@@daithiosioradain3380 thanks for the tip! And glad I'm not the only one that can't believe the weather this year. I so wanted to make it. Maybe next year 🤙
What adhesive did you use?
@@tomgaffney3406 high temperature spray adhesive, it was supplied with the material by vandalised.co.uk (or similar web address)
Thank you Justin. A super job! I am sure it is not as easy as you make it look! Tom. Fulmar owner
This is, to me, horrible viewing. I want to be there.
Bad luck with the weather, anyway you probably couldn't have afforded a coffee and a croissant here in Ireland ...we barely can!
@@sionnachog894 it would've been nice to at least watch someone else enjoy their coffee 🤣. I just want to catch one, big, bass. Then I will die happy 🤙
To my absolute shame. Am running the same impeller 16 years! Always worried to fit new chinesium as won't last more than couple of years. !!
@@jonocharles1046 excellent! That must be some kind of record. Do you remove it every winter or leave it in?
You are better being over-stocked with fuel and try to keep one spare can in reserve in case the main tank gets contaminitaed. Fair Winds.
Used to catch a lot of pollock, and an old fisherman friend suggested sprinkling the raw fillets with lemon and air drying overnight uncovered in the fridge to firm it up and concentrate the flavour.
@@stephengrimmer35 thanks for that tip!
Thanks for filming not just the perfect days!
If you have cracked it, does that mean time for a new boat?
That was very enjoyable. Thanks for the beer batter demo. I have the same 2 burner gas stove in my galley, which means as long as I do every step the same, it will come out as good!
Yummy fish 🐟. I sometimes mix a little bit of smokey paprika or red pepper in my batter. It gives the fish a bit of flavor. 💖⛵🐕
@@DLBard-bv2nd yes perfect!
About failing gear... all too often when the gear finally stops failing b'cause everything had been upgraded, refurbished or fixed - well, then you sell the boat 😆
The elderly issue is prevalent in the US as well. Sad.There's always bingo.
@@SailingAndInvesting not the nicest way to live out your days. I don't know what the answer is really
Oh dang. I want to see you make that wind vane!!! Please document it. I have been toying with the idea myself.
They turned out to be an impressive pair of pollocks in the end.
Looks like the type of fish that chips are next to. How's the bottom?
I feel your frustration! This season has been a write off for me with little chance of getting many miles in for the rest of the year. Ive still managed to spend a fortune on the boat! I'm beginning to question my sanity.
@@TheFlyingPlectrum things can only get better 👍
Great to see you back👍
Now that some time has passed what is your verdict? Would you buy another cheap heater? I see that a water/air heater version is now being offered, I’m thinking of buying as calorifier is very old.
That very heater is still going strong. It needed a new control panel after the Azores trip - about £20. Yes, I would buy one again and the calourifier sounds interesting
dont know what the hell to do on mine - getting C28 code but it wont even crank either - dont even know if its a multi-issue at this point.
Good to see you back. When are you starting your cooking channel?
@@sailingaphrodite4189 wait til you see the next vid, I did beer (tribute, obvs) battered fresh fish and chips in Scilly. Amazing 😁 good to hear from you mate, yup, still at it
I am also on a similar journey, age 54 and just passed my 1st year of a maths degree and now will enjoy the break and get some sailing done.
Shit I’m 51 and over weight, I’m fooked I need to change my lifestyle, I don’t want my kids to have to take that phone call
Your comments on the situation with old folks hit home with me. As you know I am rebuilding my Twister, I also have a 86 year old mother who basically needs 24 hr care but we are not putting her into a home - she wouldn't have it and we don't want to trust her to people we do not know anyway. I have chosen to live at the family home with both parents, and I share the care duties with Dad who himself is 85 but still mobile. I have to work 5 days per week to make ends meet, then in evenings I relieve Dad to help with Mum. I have a half day off on Saturday when I drive a couple hours to see the progress on my boat (I had to employ a boat building buddy because I have no time) and then on Sunday Dad has a day off to go play bowls or similar to give the poor fella a break. I'm mid 50's and frankly I don't know how I do it or where I get the energy from, but I just carry on and do what needs to be done. Unfortunately I have three siblings who do practically zero to help, two of them have adult children so little excuse, and the one who gets the pass is the third sibling with two kids under 10. This all sounds like a bit of a whinge, and I am somewhat pondering what I am doing writing this on a public forum like this - but what I am highlighting here is that they way modern kids seem to abandon their elderly parents is pretty disappointing, and I am not going to be a part of that club.
BTW, good to see you sailing again mate. Wish you still had the Twister, but I understand the reasons you changed boats 🙂
@@junk_rig_sailor1698 I have nothing but admiration and respect for you mate 👍 that's a really tough gig.
Great video…very much agree with you about families in the UK
Hey, great to see you again
great to have you back
Nice video. Is that a belge keel? If so, how would you copare it vs your previous boat?
Hi! Not a fair comparison. This boat is 25 years younger. Its closer winded and faster - especially in light airs. But the motion at sea makes me sick. My twister never made me sick. Bilge keels are just brilliant for practicality 👍 I love them. And there is about twice as much room in this boat compared to my twister. I know which boat I'd rather be in a F9+ though....
Good to see you again skipper. Dont be old and fat he says, as he squirts some more mayo on his burger!! Looked delicious!
Long awaited video! Regarding your experience in uni, I know exactly what you are going through! Hang on tight, you'll excell! And after all that, you are sailing again. When you think about it, you are the richest man on earth 😊. Edit: your experiences in your new career certainly puts life's priorities in the proper order...
Welcome back mate!
Very impressive sailing. It's way beyond me, but great to see a smallish boat out in the ocean, and to get a realistic view of what goes on. Half the time cold, wet, knackered, uncomfortable and kind of hating it, but also loving it, it seems! I recognise that mix of feelings anyway. Great video, thanks.
@@tobygoessailing that's pretty much exactly the way it felt 🤣. I'm plotting to all three consecutively in the future.. not sure when yet. It's not beyond you 👍
