I did like plan b regarding the stern tube. I’d heard about the problem on the way and was trying to think of a solution. I’ve been over the side at sea to clear a fouled prop…and it’s not fun…but doable. That was a clever solution. Great video as always.
Francis Chichester, Chay Blyth and Justin Butler. Great British sailors. But Chichester and Blyth didn't have to do it without Jammy Dodgers! Great vid mate. Looking forward to a few beers!!! Pete
Just discovered your channel, really good work with the right amount of swearing in the appropriate places. No power to run the fridge to keep the bacon edible, now that’s serious. Keep up the excellent work, its great.
I have a stove just like yours but i never take it off to refill it: i just use a small funnel to fill it mounted and i make sure not to go faster then it can absorb the alcohol. It's very easy!
Just make sure you open the hob properly before filling and lighting... we had a nasty stove fire after the Vice Captain forgot to open the hob while using the funnel technique... so the fuel just poured over the top of the cartridge and down the sides, then when she lit it, the whole stove ignited... fortunately a quick thinking friend soaked a towel in water and smothered it... otherwise there might have been one fewer Twister...
Just incredible mate I've been through similar weather on my Dad's RFA once as a kid and that was 26000 tonnes of ship. God knows what it feels like on a yacht. But obviously you do. Maximum respect mate. A riveting watch for sure. I wanna see more.
I like how calm you stay bud. Mine was trying to sink itself last week south of the Isle of Wight, bloody stern glands and cutlass bearings! It was fine though, take a lot of water to sink a boat 😀
I think I’d have been more ‘alert’ if there was any real risk of the boat actually sinking. Stopping the prop shaft turning virtually stopped the leak. I didn’t take a life raft with me 😂😂😂
Really nice film. you can sense the weather is building, waiting to see how you cope regarding sleep when the weather turns. I love my sleep and it was my biggest fear. anyway very good film.
Thanks, I slept 4 hours a night in the deep blue ocean. Didn’t see another boat for days anyway and the ais alarm was set. One of the biggest ‘learning points’ was.... rig a hammock.
Super impressive calm seamanship. Twister looks great bashing to windward in the last few minutes not over pressed at all. To stop a fish jumping around put a knife into the gill and cut the spinal chord behind the head.
Your videos have me crying laughing. Congrats on an amazing single handed passage and thanks for sharing it. Winch handle to the back of the head as soon as they come on board does for fish nicely in my experience.
Hi there, thanks so much for sharing your adventure. I have a silly question; I am not a sailor so forgive me if it does not make any sense: would it be appropriate/safe/possible to dive in the middle of the Atlantic, just for fun, a couple of jumps in the water may be attached to a rope and when the ocean is calm or is that a NO NO. And if so, why? I have this question running in my head, I thought to just ask for your experienced opinion if you can. Cheers!
Welcome Christian! There are no silly questions, thanks for watching. Many many people do exactly that! Personally, my greatest fear was becoming separated from the boat so I didn't. If I had needed to to fix my leak, I'd have used a lifeline. If there's more than one of you on the boat, why not? 👍👍
Hello for a wet and windy Ireland. i am thinking of investing in a ssb radio for weather like you did, what radio did you get "so i dont lol" and what advice would you give on the set up. CHEERS T.J.
I had a tecsun, but I was unlucky, they are a reliable brand usually. If I were doing it again and had the cash, I would get a ham radio, like a yeasu ft817/818nd and hook that up to a computer. I have an amateur radio license, but you don't need a license if you only listen.
Love your vids, think we chatted prior to the challenge whist pandemic was on. Anyway I digress, your fridge , how did it perform and what did it cost you in terms of cash and power consumption
@@SVRoquetta what did you stick your wood down with when you did forepeak project? I liked the simplicity of what you did. How is the moisture /air circulation since you’ve done it? Apologies if it’s another video you did it in btw.
@@itsjustplainsailing5189 I should've included more detail in that vid. My bad. Hull ground back to fibreglass and then I epoxied the battens to the hull. It's a 100% improvement. Any condensation just runs into the bilges, easy to keep clean, looks good
@@SVRoquetta yeah I’m going to do the same , looks much sturdier and cleaner lined .previously I’ve tried similar but using ct1 adhesive instead of the epoxy, just doesn’t set right.the old adage of if your going to do it once then do it right. Thanks man
Yeah, sitting in a saline solution waving a 35 foot aluminium pole around in a thunderstorm. Sounds like fun! Well done Justin! 👍🏻

Brilliant as always. Bloody stern glands! Looking forward to the next one!
Great job and spectacular weather. Inspiring example of staying calm while sleep deprived. Looking forward to the next episode.
Huge respect for a job well done, including the video 👍🏼

So am I! Thanks, sometime soon I need to get over there 👍

That’s a great idea, I’ll keep an eye out for a suitable funnel.
Top Tip!

She is going like a train at the end if this! What a boat xx

That was great. Keep them coming!!!! Are you back home now?James
I am home! And it’s all so overwhelming having been at sea for 5 weeks 😂😂
You did well. Have you stopped swaying yet?
Thanks. God job.
A privilege to share your journey. You appear to be back in Scilly now?
Yes, I’m home on my mooring actually, suffering this ridiculous isolation period. I’ve been at sea for two weeks, another ten days is ridiculous
What windvane did you use?
A hebridean. I did a video on it 👍
Love your vids, think we chatted prior to the challenge whist pandemic was on.

Thanks! About 400 quid, the solar kept up with it fine (2 60w panels). I remember chatting 👍

What kind of fridge do you have , what size, thank you
Can't remember exactly now... It was an Outwell 18 litre maybe?
