    Great work James, that chassis looks killer. Do you like the Tamiya polishing blocks? I've considered getting some, but so far my glasses cleaning cloth methods seems okay. But I don't know what I don't know, so maybe the Tamiya product is better.

    • @ScaleModelExperiment
      @ScaleModelExperiment День назад

      When I started polishing the top with ceramic compound by hand it was not enough to get the scratches out so I switched to the pads with finish compound. The pads are a little more aggressive when using compounds which is what I needed. If you’re getting good results with a glasses cloth stick with it. If you need more ooumpf use the pads.

    Hi James, Great result, it looks really clean. I have a few questions, I see that you have Lychee on your toolbar, what do you think about it? I tried it and I actually liked it better than Chitubox (island detection, for example), I know that many people don't. Can you tell me Why? I didn't check all of your videos but do you explain how to chose support shape, conical head pointy or ball at the end, how deep into the print, ...? When I was doing 3d printing at work, I was really guessing support shape and size without knowing what I was doing, it worked most of the time but I was wondering if there is rules. How much clearance would you recommend to fit parts together? Like for example the distributor, if the wire is 1mm diameter what would be the hole diameter in the distributor to fit the wire comfortably? I'm thinking about getting a printer but I know that in my case it will collect dust most of the time and the resin will expire, I think that for now it makes more sense for me to have Stratasis, Shapeways or Fathom deal with it, it's not that expensive anymore. Although it would be fun to have one (I'm thinking about the small $100 Geeetech alkaid). The funny part is that none of the printer services is cheaper than the other, but sometimes price varies, so it's good to upload in 3 of them every-time to get a good price, sometimes it varies by a lot. I also used FDM printing, I was always puzzled that it couldn't get the printing duration right, most of the time less than anticipated (sometimes by more than an hour on big prints), it got all the info (speed of printing, travel, pause between layers, ...), it's a computer, it should be easy business to calculate all that. Sorry for the long comment, Good continuation, 👋🏻

    • @ScaleModelExperiment
      @ScaleModelExperiment 5 дней назад

      You give me a lot of credit. I found that the auto support feature was better with Chitubox so that’s why I use that slicer. I’m too lazy/impatient to make my own supports. I’ve never played with support shape or depth, I just use the default 😁 Before I got my first printer I bought a few printed items and then found out how little the files cost soooo I took the dive to do it myself. Take care Yves, I appreciate your support👍

    David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Wednesday, 25 September, 2024) 3D printing and laser etching (if that is the correct term), in model-building’s efforts to adapt new technologies, are topics of keen interest for me (though to my deep regret, I lack the means, or the experience with CAD/CAM, to engage in it directly). If I understand it correctly, one can create objects of nearly unlimited shape and astounding exactitude. Modellers so equipped can create kits of scale models, or short of that, sub-assemblies, in any proportion; if Dan has a military vehicle, figurine, etc., in one scale, but he wishes it were in another, one need only to scan into a PC of sufficient capacity the precise dimensions (my guess would be down to the micron) on all three axes, which one then transfers, transmits, or downloads to a 3D printer or laser burner (if that latter is the correct word) of sufficient resolution for 3D printing or 3D burning (if I name correctly that second option). At 6:07 to 6:18 of your video, you endeavour to characterise the anomalous texturing of the object’s surface, saying that since “the resin is a little harder than the plastic”, so one must “start with the higher grit-or the lower grit; excuse me.” To avoid the ambiguity in the usage you employed, I suggest one express more precisely descriptive adjectives; here, “coarse” or “fine”. Building upon this, rather than us employing just two polar opposite constructs, for us perhaps to create a scale of 1 to 9, or so, that we can improve our depiction of the unwanted texturing. Also, would higher resolution of CAD/CAM three-dimensional imaging (that is, enabling results with fineness down to the micron, or so, as I suggested earlier) obviate these unwanted striation artefacts (however minuscule they are) in the plastic object?

      Thanks Carl, I wish I had seen my video when I first started printing. This is my way to give back to the hobby ❤️
