I wonder if this '72 will have the 318 or 340. I have AMT's '71 Duster 340. Other than taillights, and dashboard maybe, the '71 and '72 model years are basically the same, I think. Not so much reason to be as excited as I at first thought about being with this '72 kit. Now giving us the 318 and a different grille up front would get me excited again.
Ahhh. Okay. I'm not the worlds biggest Mopar fan, but this beats the hell out of another Camaro. Thing is....Give me a bench seat, six cylinder option and the standard Duster grille and with some supplied decals I can also build a Gold Duster. Look at that. Now I bought 2 kits.
I agree, it’s nice to have the kit back on the shelf rather than another common kit. I think you’re on the right track with some simple kit bashing you can have a cool car.
@@ScaleModelExperiment i hope they make the flash or i can just buy the resin hood and interior bucket, same for the 73 duster they could make the mopar muscle & sox & martin from the same kit
Tell Steve if he needs to look at a real 72 340 four speed Duster. It in my garage and I’m only 25 minutes away from the club meeting. Ask for my friend Brian he knows me. I can’t go to the meetings (as much as I would want to) because I take care of my wife and she is disabled. I noticed that the shifter is a little too far back.
Firstly, *thank* *you* for sharing this with us. Now on to the critique : 1.) The *original* *MPC* annual kits have moulded-on ""B" pillars ( I have an original 1972 Duster annual ) 2.) Rallye wheels are still too deep 3.) Still that severely undersized engine (which make no sense, as this is an all - new tool ) Bonus points for *finally* getting the interior tub correct ! No such an animal as a manual trans / console combo after the 1969 model year. Thankfully Round2 ditched that for this 1972 issue. Correct "generic" instruments ; 1971 was the last year for the Rallye clustre . Air cleaner is right for not only a 1972, but could pass for a 1970-1971 340 with automatic (yes, the 1:1 has differences, but not noticeable in 1/25 scale). Let's hope that : 1.) The back-up lamps are clear (like the Demon) 2.) Parking lamps / turn signals in the grille are separate and clear (Demon grill is crummy in this area - resin upgrades come to the rescue). Again, *Thanks( for this.
I certainly hope that the final product will have the correct tail lights because the prototype doesn’t look right at all. Also disappointing that it’s based on the demon kit which can’t hold a candle to the amt 71 duster
'72 kit taillights appear right to me, they are wider than the '71, and are in 3-segments, unlike the '71 taillights. Your comparison of the kits' merit is correct, but we can't fault R2 on the taillights.
Why did they mess up the tail lights? The main feature of the ‘72 is the long thin taillights, these come as a single block and there a single opening in the tail panel for these. The thin line we see is actually molded in the tail light itself. SInce this looks like a 3d printed prototype I hope they fix this as I would love to build this kit. I just finished the Demon and it was a fun build, that kit fit so good.
@@ScaleModelExperiment Any idea if they will fix the taillights. It's still as the test shot stage, no? A quick Google search pointed out the differences. Right now they look like elongated '71 taillights.
So it's basically a simplified version of the '71 Duster 340. OK. A '72 Demon would have made more sense, especially on that chassis. I haven't heard of anyone clamoring for this one.
Why on earth would they use the Demon kit, when the 71 Duster kit is so much better?!? What an oddly questionable business decision... Well, I guess I'll just be buying a lot more of the '71 kits to use literally everything but the body....
I know this answer. The 71 Duster kit is a Mueller era kit. They are not in digital format and therefore cannot be altered digitally. They found that when they did the 70.5 Camaro that just scanning the body revealed symmetrical issues side to side. Therefore, scanning the whole 71 duster kit in to modify it is kind of a risk.
@@ScaleModelExperiment symetrical issues in digital format are no issues at all!If thats their excuse, then its a very lazy and bad one!Do they really want to tell us that mirroring in digital is a problem??And you could use a 71 kit to digitalize it!Then you can digitally do it whatever you want to it!Amazing, even mirroring it!Iam getting tired of R2s stupid excuses!Do they think we are idiots! And the presented model is a 3D print! So its already digitalized!
While the 71 Duster kit is nice. The rear roof line around the side glass is not correct. And the body line below the center line is not correct. Also the door panels are 72 style not 71. I should know I own a real 72 340.
Oh and my car is a real H code 340 car with bucket seats and deluxe interior. It has all the correct stripes. My car has won first at the Mopar nationals and first at the Carlisle Mopar nationals.
Very cool. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for watching 👍

It’ll be another kit that a true Mopar lover will have to have.
appreciate the video …thanks for posting it
Thanks for watching Sean, my pleasure.
Great video, James! I hope they bring back the 74 duster at some point.
Hi Tim, it’s a possibility. Not many changes to this kit to make into a 74. Thanks for watching bud👍
Thanks for sharing. I look forward to that kit
Thanks Carl👍 me too!
A cool looking kit sir thank you for sharing
Thanks Big Eddie, it is still pre production so things may still change.

Looks pretty good! Thanks for the update. Might have to get one.😎
Thanks for watching Dave👍
Interesting new kit there James, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thanks Karl, I know it’s not your thing but lots of Americans love these Mopar kits.
Thanks for sharing !! 👍
My pleasure Bruce 👍
nice i got to get me a couple of them 1 stock and make the other into a California Flash
This could mean those old duster pro stock kits will be coming soon
That’s a good plan, hopefully the drag version will come later.
You never know, but they certainly didn’t invest in the body tooling to make just one kit.
@@theragingdolphinsmaniac4696 i really hope so

Hi Jean, if you enjoyed the fit of the Demon this will be mostly the same. All of the white parts are the same.

@@jeangratton1085 not sure at this point… might be too late.
Ill take the original dusters that actually have the name duster molded in on the bodies
Gotcha, I’m sure there will be some nice decals in the box.
@@ScaleModelExperiment you can have em. I don't spend money on round 2
Would have to fix those rims. 😮
That’s the best part of model building👍 you can put whatever rims you want on it. Easy! Hehe thanks for watching 😁
@ScaleModelExperiment Those are the correct rims.... Other than they are chrome
@ gotcha
Its so close to being real all it needs is a RC motor and youll have to worry about it passing emmisions in some places.
Haha!

Like posted before. The 71 is nice but the body is incorrect. Hey I’ll buy a few of the 72’s at least it’s based on an original kit.

AMT/Round 2 still showing they have no grasp of hood hinges other than that outdated Peg system.
