Very nice looking body. The frustration you had with the decals worked out well in the end. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Michael! Hopefully the interior decals won’t be that bad. 🤞
Just found this channel and subscribed. Can't wait for life to calm down and get back to trying my hand at modeling again. Seeing this beautiful red 442 reminds me of the rolling shell 1970 442 1:1 scale in the garage that has been screaming for my time, but models will be a great way to get back into things. Life can get really messy and modeling is a great way to shave off some stress!
The biggest take im hearing in comments is to apply decals After a single coat of clear. This makes sense now that im seeing work be done and your struggles. In the end that is one fine paint job to be proud of!
Take care everyone and enjoy life to the best of your ability!
Thank you for tuning in! This hobby can definitely be a great way to forget about life for a minute. When I sit at the bench and put all my focus into what I’m doing it’s like all the weight off my shoulders. That is until the kids interrupt me 🤣. Also as a former mechanic with back issues it’s a great way to fill that need to build stuff! You’ll love it if you get back into it.
Decals, and dust are two of my biggest struggles lol. You're doing great with dude. KUTGW!!
Thanks Jason! Someday I’ll get an actual spray booth. The box fan and ac filter aren’t the best🤣
An Old trick i learned for Decals is to put two small drops of dish detergent in Warm Water , mixing with finger to avoid soap bubbles..
Awesome tip! I might try that next time. I think my microset is bad. Used it on one side of my last build with the same result. Other side I forgot to put it on and had no problem with the decals. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching my video!
@@CBModelworks yes. Soapy solution gives a new meaning to the term "Water Slide"...
I'll use Microsset as a decal softener for uneven , contoured surfaces.
Great looking color Chris decals can be a real pain at times but you stuck with it and they came out pretty fine will make all the difference when the clear goes on and polished out nice job Chris👍👍
Thanks Seamus, definitely not perfect but I’m excited to see it finished and on the shelf. Hopefully it’ll get done in time.
Looking great! I was getting nervous watching you put on those decals. Yikes! You made them look good. Thanks for the update 😎👍
Thank you! I was getting pretty nervous myself for a while there! 🤣
Excellent paint job 👍looks awesome.😊
Thank you David!
Despite the issues, really looks nice Chris
Thank you Tom! It fought me a bit but hopefully the rest will go smoother.
I love this model! Thanks for sharing!
New friend with full support👍🔔❤ Have a great day!
Thank you so much! You Have a great day as well and thanks for subscribing!
@@CBModelworks Thank you too!😊
Looks really good Chris!!!!
Thanks so much Tim!
Looks amazing man, I wish my paint jobs look like that
Thank you so much! Keep going and trying different techniques until you find the one that fits your style. I went through a bunch of bad paint jobs trying to figure out what worked for me.
Morning, Chris here……. Olds looks really sharp!!!!!!!! I have that same kit myself……. Hope 2 build it soon!!!!!
Thanks so much Chris!
This looks great. 👍👍
Thank you so much!
Well it looks great chris... nice color.. i feel like that is gonna make a great model brother.
Thank you sir! I hopeful as well. It’s one of my real life dream cars.
i clearcoat and then put the decals down mostly cause if they dont take i can just rippim back off where as under the clear now i have to deal with any flaws that might occur 😁 cars looking great love the color thanks for sharing
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching.
Very Very cool Chris ❤
Thanks so much Shawn!
Looking sweet Chris.
Thanks so much Mars!
Turned out nice. You can get that dust out of the clear coat using 3000 then working up to 12000 if you have the time. 12k will be the ideal spot then you just use some car polishing compound either manually or with a dremmel polish pad on a slow speed. just mind the coats of clear so you don't go down into the paint. I only use Lacquers, Urethanes and enamels of car bodies and I place the decals on after the 1st coat of clear which is easier to handle than over paint. Hope this helps, Car came out looking great regardless and we all suffer the dust demons lol.
Thanks so much! It’s definitely hard to avoid dust spraying in the garage. If I get a paint job with only a couple dust spots I call that a successful journey!🤣 I thought about sanding but honestly I spent so long on the car I kind of just wanted to get it done and move on. Thanks for checking it out and I hope you’re enjoying the channel.
Looks great...and looks like the decals are a pain. 👺
Thank you! I think its my Microset that's the problem. I just had the same problem on the Z3 I'm working on. Put the microset on and it got the decal super sticky where I couldn't move it.
Looking good Chris a little tip that works good for me take a wet towel and lay it down in the booth you’ll be surprised how much it helps catching dust k.u.t.g.w.
Thanks Jeff! Great idea, I’ll have to try that next time.
lookin good
Thank you very much!
*Very clean build~I love it~Hope you have had a super great Easter my friend :))*
Thank you and Happy Easter to you as well!
Nice Color choice Chris.. I had just bought this kit, looks like the decals are a good time.. looking god so far!
Thanks so much Kreg!
Just subbed. The Olds is looking good. Your persistence really paid off.
Thank you so much!
I think it looks great. As far as applying the decals, maybe try hitting it with a clear coat prior to laying decals then lay a final clear coat after. I've had pretty good luck with that method.
Thank you! I appreciate the advice.
Yep solid advice. With enamels and their gloss hard shell properties you can get away with applying over the paint if using hardener, but I always recommend decals after 1 clear layer then finish. Mico mark makes a great wet sand set 3 to12k sanding cloths which is great for removing all the dust devils and leaving a smooth finish to polish up and re-clear if needed.
Lookin' Good Brother! 🤓👍
Thank you so much!
Came out sweet. I find when doing clear coats I get crap on the body I believe it’s globs of clear and not dust. I’m thinking it may be the needle size and air pressure which I still working out. 👍🏻
Thanks so much! I paint in the garage and my spray booth is just a box fan and a/c filter. Dust is a constant struggle for me😂
I put a coat of clear on before putting the decals down to help them slide on better
Thanks for the tip! I’ll try that next time I use this paint.
For all the issues you experienced, it turned out pretty nice! Good job working thru difficult stuff!
Thanks so much!
@@CBModelworks Did you buff the paint before you applied the decals? I've had the best results from Tamiya paints and decal applications. The paint is porous and needs buffed. I have buffed even without clear coats on the paint and had the best gloss. The car looks good. I'm going to pick up one of those kits too. I have over 500 cars. 350 at least of issues I bought clear back from 1964 to about 1976. Pactra paint was the best back then. Lol. Keep building. I'm retired and got back into it. I started fixing my old issues and then started buying them again. The price of them are outrageous today. I paid between $1.48 to about $2.99 on those 350 original kits back then.
That came out amazing!!!! Looking forward to part 2. Ed.
Thank you Ed! Hopefully have part 2 next week.
Looking sweet so far Chris 👍👍 We all get dust in our paint jobs from time to time. It's just the way it is. It can be fixed obviously. I don't always fix the dust spots on my builds 🤷♂️
Thanks Nick! I’ll do what I can with the dust but my are after all shelf queens so I’m not too worried about it.
Despite the issues you had with decals and dust it looks pretty good so far.
Thank you Rob! This is one of my real life dream cars so hoping I’m the rest goes good. Fingers crossed.
I'd say that paint came out pretty nice. (Way better than my rattle cans) Hopefully, you'll be able to finish it in time.
Thanks Cory! Crossing my fingers that I’ll finish in time.
Despite the issues you had (I have not experienced that using Tamiya paints, fwiw, bit I rattlecan all of mine), it's looking great! 😁 I've been off work pretty sick all week and haven't felt up to working on my entry, so we're both going to be cramming to get em done, lol 😁✌️
Thanks Stephen! Hopefully we’ll finish in time! Hope you feel better brother!
Aside from the problems with the decals, I'd say that paint came out pretty nice. Hopefully, you'll be able to finish it in time. Will watch for updates.
Nice color choice. It looks really good. When I put on decals, I always put one drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid in the water. It seems to allow the decals to lay down better. Just a suggestion. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Larry! Hopefully I’ll make it in time.
Sharp color combo! Should turn out nice. Curious to hear what others say about the decals. I've wet sanded clear and put decals on over 4000 grit and they are "sticky" but still not as much as those seemed. Good job workin through it.
Thanks Adam! I’ve never had decals stick that bad before. Curious if it was something I did.
Can't really go wrong with Tamiya's TS8 and a sharp-looking 442 so far. I've been wanting to get that kit myself. Seeing how you decanted your paint, did you add any thinner or right after decanting? What psi is your airbrush? I'm getting ready to break in my own airbrush for the first time and I've been hearing 12-15 from other videos? -David @ Scale Models Midwest
Thank you! I decanted it a couple months ago and I only thin what I’m going to to use at the time. I thin about 20% with Mr Hobby leveling thinner and spray at about 18 psi. Currently use an Iwata Neo with a .35 needle.
Looking great! I've had the same problem on the decals before. What I did was add allot of water on the body before I placed them but you did that so I'm honestly not sure????
Thank you! Hopefully it’s just a freak thing because there’s a bunch of wood trim decals for the interior.
Decals were a nightmare, like u were sticking them onto glue. Would not budge or slide on testors enamel beige that was airbrushed
I’m glad I’m not the only one that had issues with them. Hopefully the interior ones won’t be as bad. Thanks for watching!
I had the same issues with the decals. Probably the worst I've had to deal with. Very impressed with that paint job! I used a water based for the first time and wasn't overly impressed. I just can't bring myself to decant a spray can lol. What size tip were you using in the airbrush? Perhaps that was part of my issues. I've been doing mostly armor for a decade and prefer the smallest tips for camo
I don’t know what was up with the decals but I’ve never had them stick like that. 🤷🏻♂️ Decanting, in my opinion, give you better control over the paint and doesn’t waste as much with over spray. You can definitely get great results spraying directly from the can though. It’s kind of a what works best for you situation. I use an Iwata Neo from Hobby Lobby. I believe it comes with .30 needle. It’s a good general purpose airbrush.
@@CBModelworks I'm just glad I'm not the only one that had issues with them! I'm using a couple different Master's airbrushes that I've used for many years, painting shirts, models and graphics on motorcycles. But I moved and I'm using a little pancake compressor instead of a big one, maybe I'm just not getting enough air volume from thinner lines. IDK. I know there are advantages to decanting, ready to spray, nice variety of colors, not having to get all kinds of different reducers etc. Maybe one day I'll give it a try.
Is this a round 2 rehash? If it is that will explain the problems with the decals. The car looks great BTW.
It’s supposed to be new tooling. The rest of the decals were great. 1 other person said they had issues with them but everyone else hasn’t had any trouble. Maybe it was something I was doing wrong. The rest of the kit has been great. I’m thinking about buying another to build a different way.
@@CBModelworks Ya the decals once placed can't be moved. I have had a couple of there kits and they were not retooled. I should check to see what they have remade. Thanks.
curious about your opinion, since you seem to be knowledgeable on painting ..... and I've been out of the hobby for about 50 years and never used an air brush back then.
Would an ionizer air cleaner pull all the dust you got away from the paint booth?
I suppose it could help if you have a separate hobby room where you can keep it vacuumed etc. In my situation I don’t think it would work. I’m in a garage full of stuff and just have a little area for model building. I also have to open the garage door for ventilation when I spray so that stirs up a bunch of dust as well. It’s just one of those things I have to deal with until I can figure out a hobby room. Thank you for watching the videos!
@@CBModelworks what I was suggesting was to have it running while you are painting, to pull dust away from the work area.
Not very many people can have a dedicated hobby room, but that would be nice!
were did u get your clear coat at
Thanks for watching! It’s Testors extreme laquer wet look clear. I decanted it from the rattle can.
Thank you
